Chapter 5

"Morning," he smiled.

"Buenos dias," I returned the smile and held the door open for him to come inside.

He walked in and looked around the room, not sure what to do.

"Let me just grab my jacket and we can go," I said. "Oh and here's yours."

I tossed his jacket to him and he put it on."I was kinda counting on that. I forgot to put one on before I came over here," he laughed.

I threw my jacket on and grabbed my phone. "Shall we?" I smiled.

"We shall," he grinned, opening the door for me.

He closed the door behind us and we walked down to the elevators.

"Where are we going?" I asked. I was really hungry.

"I was thinking iHop but we can go wherever you want," he answered.

"I love iHop," I smiled. It was one of my favorite restaurants.

"Awesome."

The elevator opened and we made our way down to the lobby. I looked around hoping none of the guys were down here. It wouldn't turn out well if one of the boys saw me leaving with another guy and told Cameron. Thankfully, I didn't see any of them. We walked outside and made our way to the back of the building. I didn't understand why we were walking back here and it started to worry me. I thought we were gonna walk to the restaurant or get a cab since we didn't take the elevator down to the parking garage to get a vehicle.

"Why are we going back here?" I asked, getting unnerved. Maybe "lunch" wasn't such a good idea.

"Oh, I'm just getting my car," he said. What?

"Why didn't you park it in the parking garage?" I quizzed him.

"I hate parking garages. They're a pain in the ass," he laughed. "Plus, I don't have to pay for parking this way."

He lead us through the back alley and around some rose bushes where he'd parked his SUV.

"Nice," I said, admiring the vehicle. I loved SUVs.

"Yeah?" he smiled. "I just got it last week."

"It's awesome," I replied, staring at the shiny black paint.

He unlocked the vehicle and we got in. The interior smelled like cologne and the pine tree air freshener he had hanging from the mirror. He turned the radio to a pop station and looked around before backing out. 'Love, Sex, Magic' came on the radio. It was kinda awkward but he didn't change the station or turn it down. He was drumming his fingers on the steering wheel while we waited at the stop light. I started quietly singing along to the song. I didn't want to sing normal in front of him since I didn't know him. That would be a bit weird. He randomly started laughing.

"What?" I asked, confused as to what he was laughing about.

"You will huh?" he asked, flashing me a grin.

"I will what?" I frowned.

"You'll make me believe in love, sex and magic?" he burst out laughing.

Realization hit me."Oh!" I laughed. "I was just singing along! I didn't mean that!"

"I know," he said, continuing to laugh.

Of course, Candy Shop came on next, and that just made us laugh harder.

"How far away are we?" I asked, trying to stop laughing.

"Um... like seven miles I think," he said, changing lanes to merge to the highway.

There was some incredibly awesome feeling about the way he hit the highway. As soon as he got to the merge lane doing forty five, he hit the gas to speed up for merging and floored it when we met the highway. I think everyone does it like that. I know I do. But there was just something cool about the way he drove carelessly, like he didn't mind the traffic and he was enjoying himself. I smiled at him.

"What?" he smiled back.

"Nothing, just... you look happy," I answered, looking back to the road.

"Yeah," his smile grew wider.

I Knew You Were Trouble came on the radio and we both broke out into song. I loved this song and apparently he did too. I listened to his voice for awhile. He had a good voice. Something about it sounded familiar but I couldn't place it. I really liked it though.

"You have a good voice," I said.

"Yeah? So do you," he grinned, shifting to the exit lane.

"Thanks," I felt myself blush and regretted not wearing any makeup.

I almost never wore makeup cause I didn't like it but I had a bad habit of blushing when talking to people and it embarrassed me. If I had foundation on right now, it wouldn't bother me. I just hoped he didn't notice.

We pulled into the parking lot at iHop and he turned the engine off."You ready?" he turned to me, removing the keys.

"Yeah," I answered, opening my door.

We walked across the lot to the restaurant and he opened the door for me. The hostess seemed to recognize him.

"Back again?" she smiled.

"Always. I can never have too many pancakes," he laughed.

"Table or booth?"Tyler looked to me.

"Booth please," I said.

She lead us over to a booth and took our drink orders. I looked around the restaurant awkwardly, not knowing what to say. The hostess came back with our drinks and told us the waitress would be over shortly.

"So..." Tyler tried to start a conversation. I looked up at him and he leaned back against the seat."So..." I said.

"Where are you from?" he asked, stirring his coke with the straw.

I hadn't unwrapped my straw yet, which gave me an idea.

"Originally Oklahoma," I said, making a face. I really wasn't a big fan of my home state. No offense to Oklahomans but it just wasn't my kind of place. "But I mostly stay in LA and Nashville now."

"Oh cool," he said. "What do you do there?"

"I'm working on a music career," I smiled.

"That's awesome! I'm in a band," he grinned.

"Let me guess... guitarist?" I asked.

"Nope. I do play a little but no."

"I don't see you as a drummer. Bass?"

"Nope. Lead."

"Lead?" I asked. "Lead singer?"

"Yeah," he smiled.

"That's really awesome," I smiled back.

The waitress came over and took our orders. I was looking forward to a waffle, eggs and bacon. It'd been on my mind all morning. Tyler was distracted by his phone. Someone kept texting him. I took that opportunity to tear the end of my straw wrapper, put it to my mouth hoping he wouldn't notice, and blow my wrapper at him. Bullseye. I started laughing at his stunned expression and he started laughing also.

"That's not very lady-like," he grinned, wadding up the paper and throwing it back at me. He missed.

The waitress came back with our food and we mostly ate in silence. It was kinda awkward and kinda comfortable. I didn't know what to say but I was really happy with what I was eating.

"So what about you?" I asked.

He looked up at me."What about me?" he asked, covering his mouth with his hand while he ate.

"Where are you from?"

"Upstate."

"New York?" I asked.

"Yeah," he nodded. "Been a Yankee all my life."

"You don't have the accent for it. I'm surprised," I said, taking a bite of bacon.

"I get that a lot," he chuckled.

We finished our food and he paid. He said bye to the hostess and we walked back out to his SUV.

"You know her?" I asked.

"Kelly and I went to high school together," he answered, unlocking the vehicle.

"How old are you?"

"Eighteen," he said, starting the engine. "You?"

"Eighteen," I answered.

He backed out of the parking lot and we made our way back to the highway. I was hoping he'd wanna do something else. I was really having a great time with him and I didn't want it to end so soon. We got back to the hotel and he walked me back to my room. I was kinda disappointed that our hang out had to end so soon. I really liked him... as a friend... right? Right. He leaned against the wall as I fiddled with my jacket pocket to get my room key.

"I had a good time," he said.

"Me too. Thank you," I smiled.

"Um..." he looked around the hallway and rubbed the back of his neck awkwardly. "What do you have planned today?"

"I might go see a friend later and I'm going to a concert tonight. Why?"

"I just... well I don't have anything to do til this evening and..." he cleared his throat. "Do you um... wanna come back to my room?"

I cocked an eyebrow. "I don't mean like that..." he said quickly, his face turning red.

"What do you mean?"

"Um... we could watch TV I guess. I don't know," he answered.

I thought about it. I'd be here a couple more days anyway. I didn't have to visit Rachelle today and I didn't have to be at the venue til four. It was almost one now.

"Uh sure," I said, putting my room key back in my pocket.

"After you," he smiled, turning to lead me to his room.

"So, what do you wanna do?" Tyler asked as we walked into his hotel room.

I looked around the room. He was apparently sharing it with someone cause there were two unmade beds and loads of clothes laying around the floor.

"You'd think the cleaning lady would've been here by now," I said, not really paying attention to Tyler.

He laughed. "Probably, but I put the don't disturb sign on the door this morning."

"Why? You weren't here," I gave him a funny look.

"Just a weird habit I have. I can always ask the front desk for more towels or whatever but I don't mind the beds being messy and shit like that," he said, plopping down on the bed.

I just stood there looking like a dumbo. He patted the space next to him on the bed and turned the TV on. I awkwardly walked over and sat down on the edge of the bed, feeling uncomfortable.

"If it bothers you, there's another bed. This one just has better TV view," he mumbled, flipping through the channels.

I decided to ignore my uncomfortable feelings and scoot back to the pillows next to him. He finally decided on watching Full House and sunk back against the pillows, stretching his legs out to the end of the bed. I just sat there staring at the TV. To be honest, I was kinda bored.

"Is this okay?" he asked, looking at the TV.

I assumed he meant the show he put it on."Yeah, I love Full House," I answered.

"No I mean... uh," he cleared his throat.

I think he could tell I was kinda uncomfortable. It just felt a bit weird being that close on a bed to someone I'd just met.

"Do you want anything to drink?"He got up and went over to the mini fridge looking around.

"No I'm fine," I said.

He came back to the bed with a diet coke and laid back down.

"Is this bugging you?" he looked up at me.

I gave him a confused look."No. It's fine."

"You've barely moved since we got here and it's obvious you're not interested in the TV," he said sitting up against the headboard.

"I just feel weird. I just met you and this just feels odd," I explained, trying not to offend him. He seemed to understand.

"Okay," he nodded, standing up. "Let's go."

"Where?"

"I'll take you back to your room."

"Oh I didn't mean it like that..." I felt bad now.

"Well if you're not comfortable here, what can I do?" he asked, leaning against the wall and putting his hands in his pockets.

"I don't know. It's just so quiet in here. There's no conversation if we're watching TV and it just feels weird. It's not you," I replied, crossing my legs on the bed.

"Well is there something you'd rather be doing?"

"I can't think of anything."

"I can," he said, suddenly getting an idea. "C'mon."

"Where are we going?" I asked, following him out the door.

"You'll see," he smirked.

We walked back down the hall. I figured we were going back to the elevators but he passed them.

"The elevators are that way," I said, pointing back where we came from.

"I know," he replied and continued walking.
