Chapter 4

A couple hours later, I woke up. Seeing it was still black outside, I checked my phone to see it was 3:52AM. I let a heavy sigh release and sat up in bed. Cameron was passed out snoring and I was wide awake for some reason. I tried going back to sleep but my body just didn't seem to want to, so by 4:15 I decided I might as well get up and do something. I quietly snuck out of bed and pulled a pair of sweatpants from my bag. I didn't feel comfortable leaving the room in shorts. I pulled my hair back, put my tank top back on, grabbed my phone and room key, and tiptoed out of the room.

I made my way down the hall to the elevators, not really knowing where I was going. I had nothing to do and wandering around the hotel seemed like the most interesting thing at the time. I walked to the front desk in the lobby.

"Can I help you?" the girl asked. She looked like she wanted to be anywhere but here.

"Can I get a coke please? Just charge it to the room."

"Sure," she fetched a coke for me. "What's your room number?"

"1311."

"Alright. Here you go."

"Thank you," I smiled.

I wandered over to the sitting area in the lobby. There was no one else here. The TV was on quiet. It was all infomercials and I was bored to death. I sat there for about fifteen minutes drinking my coke til I decided I wanted some fresh air. I walked over to the front doors of the hotel and stepped outside. I knew it wasn't such a good idea to be alone outside in the middle of the night in New York City but I figured if I stayed near the doors, nothing would happen. I sat down on a bench a few feet away and tried to relax.

"You know, that's not the safest idea," I heard a guy say.

I looked over my shoulder to see a figure a few feet from me leaning against the building. I was kinda creeped out but I kept cool.

"I know. I just needed some air," I replied, hoping he'd go away.

My mind was already jumping to conclusions that he was a murderer or something.

"Yeah, me too," he said. "Mind if I sit with you?"

I wanted so badly to say no and run away but I said "sure" instead, for some reason. I mentally slapped myself. I felt the bench shift a bit as he sat down about two feet from me. He let out a heavy breath but kept quiet. Okay, maybe he's not going to kill me...I scooted slightly further away from him, hoping he wouldn't notice. Naturally, he did.

"I'm not gonna rape you, if that's what you're thinking," he said in a tired voice.

"Oh," I muttered.

I didn't know what to say. I wanted to run back to Cameron and hide but the only thing between me and the doors was this guy and if I tried to get up, I half expected him to grab me and do God knows what. I didn't really trust what he said.

"You're gonna get sick out here in a tank top," he said.

"I'm fine."

"Here," he said, handing me his leather jacket.

"Uh, no thanks," I half smiled, trying to act like I appreciated the offer. Really, I thought it was just his way of trying to seduce me.

"Suit yourself," he shrugged.

A few silent minutes went by and the wind picked up a bit. I was starting to get pretty cold and somewhat regretted not taking his jacket. I slid my hands up and down my arms trying to keep warm. It must've been about fifty degrees. I heard the guy chuckle lightly.

"See what I mean?" he said, slightly amused.

"I'm fine," I lied. I was pretty cold.

"Yeah, you're fine. That's why you're freezing your ass off, right?"

"Oh shut up," I said and immediately regretting saying it, thinking he might get pissed.

"C'mon, just take my jacket," he offered again.

"Fine," I groaned.

He handed me his jacket and I slipped it on. It was really warm and smelled like cologne and barbecue.

"Did you have barbeque for dinner?" I laughed lightly.

"Is it that obvious?" he chuckled.

"Your jacket smells like barbeque."

"Oh," he said. "Is that a problem?"

"No, I like barbeque."

"Okay then..."

He shifted his body so he was turned a bit more toward me but he wasn't looking at me. It was really quiet out except for a few frogs who were making their own rendition of a Broadway musical, by the sound of it. I watched mystery boy from the corner of my eye, wondering what his next move was.

"What?" he said flatly.

"Nothing," I said. "I didn't say anything."

"You're obviously thinking about something intently," he pressed.

"How do you know?"

"You keep glancing at me like you're expecting something," he turned to face me.

For the first time, I could see his face. He looked about my age with somewhat shaggy dark brown hair. His bangs were long and he had a ball cap on. I had a thing for boys wearing ball caps. I pushed that thought aside. I studied his facial features. He had a bit of stubble and the moonlight was shining off his eyes. He was really handsome.

"Why are you looking at me like that?" he muttered, meeting my gaze.

"I just, uh, I hadn't seen your face til now," I said, slightly embarrassed.

He flashed me a breathtaking smile."That's cause you're too busy hiding from me over there," he laughed.

"Sorry," I half smiled. "I just don't know you and this is New York so... you know..."

"Yeah. It's good to be cautious here."

"I should go..." I said awkwardly, standing up. It was kind of unnerving to me that he stood up also.

"Mind if I walk you back to your room?" he asked.

"Honestly, I don't trust you not to find my room number and hunt me down later," I said truthfully, hoping he wouldn't get mad.

"I understand," he breathed out. "But I promise I'm not one of those guys. I'm just trying to be nice."

The way he said that combined with the innocent look on his face changed my mind and I figured oh well.

"Oh alright..." I caved.

"You sure?" he asked.

I appreciated that he gave me the option to say hell no and run for it.

"Yeah," I smiled.

We walked back into the hotel and across the lobby til we reached the elevators. We stood there awkwardly waiting. When the elevator doors finally opened, he put a hand between the doors and gestured for me to walk in first and then followed. I pressed the button for 13. The ride up was silent. Finally I heard a ding and the doors opened to my floor. I walked downed the hall to my room and he followed.

"This is me," I said, expecting him to leave.

"Um... are you in town long?" he asked, leaning against the wall.

"A few days," I answered.

"Do you wanna maybe, uh... hang out?" he asked hesitantly.

"I don't even know your name," I replied, feeling awkward again.

"That shows how stupid I am," he laughed and held out his hand. "Tyler Daniels."

"Olivia Winter," I shook his hand.

Normal people pull away from a handshake after a couple seconds. When I tried to pull away, he held my hand in his. I gave him a weird look.

"Can I see you again?" he asked, looking kinda self-conscious.

"Are you asking me out?" I questioned, ready to yell 'I have a boyfriend!'

"I'm asking you for lunch... today... if you want to..." he said nervously.

"Um..."

I thought about it for a few seconds. I didn't know what Cameron had planned today and I didn't have to be at the venue until four. Tyler seemed nice so I figured I'd chance it.

"Uh... sure... yeah," I answered.

"I'll pick you up around eleven?" he suggested.

"Sure," I smiled.

He released my hand from his."See you later," he smiled, turning to walk away.

I realized I was still wearing his jacket.

"Tyler!" I called after him.

He turned around."Yeah?"

"Your jacket," I said, ready to take it off and toss it to him.

"Keep it for now. I'll see you later," he said, walking backwards and then turned to walk around the corner at the end of the hall. I guess he's staying on the same floor, since he passed the elevators.

I slipped my room key in and opened the door quietly, figuring Cameron was still asleep. I walked over to the bed and plugged my phone back in.

"You're up early," Cameron mumbled.

"I took a walk around the hotel. Couldn't sleep," I said, slipping my shoes off. I turned to face him and he gave me a funny look.

"What?" I asked.

"Where'd you get the jacket?"

"Oh I uh... I ran into a friend..." I answered, hoping he'd drop the subject.

I didn't wanna tell him I had plans for lunch with some gorgeous guy I'd just met and he gave me his jacket. How do you tell your boyfriend that without it sounding really bad?

"At five in the morning?" he cocked an eyebrow.

"Yeah," I lied, hoping he bought it.

"Okay..." he sighed, rolling over. "Wake me up at eight please."

"If I can even wake up by then," I laughed, setting the alarm on my phone.

I was usually a very late riser. I took Tyler's jacket off and laid it at the foot of the bed, then pulled the cover up over my body and cuddled up to Cameron.

"You smell like barbeque," Cameron mumbled into the pillow.

A nervous feeling shot through my stomach. I didn't reply and we both quickly fell asleep.

I awoke hearing 'I knew you were trouble when you walked in, so shame on me now...' I groaned and reached for my phone to turn the alarm off. I was glad I'd at least remembered to change the alarm. I adore One Direction but there's only so many times you can wake up to What Makes You Beautiful. I felt Cameron roll over next to me.

"I don't wanna get up," he mumbled.

"I don't either. I didn't get much sleep," I replied, sitting up.

"I guess I better get up," he said, tossing the covers aside and sliding out of bed.

I watched as he gathered his clothes for the day and made his way to the bathroom. I laid in bed listening to Taylor Swift songs on my phone until he was done showering. He walked back into the room with wet hair and a towel around his waist and looked at his phone.

"Zach wants me at the venue by noon. He wants to try some different things with tonight's show so I guess we have to practice whatever he's got on his mind," Cameron informed me, setting his phone down and grabbing his boxers.

I watched him toss the towel across the room and put his clothes on.

"I'm gonna go downstairs and get us some breakfast. What do you want babe?" he asked.

I looked at the time. 9:21AM. I'd be having lunch with Tyler in less than two hours. I didn't want to be full before then.

"Oh I'll just grab something later. I'm not really hungry," I lied.

I was starving but I didn't wanna be rude and not eat with Tyler later. Cameron gave me a weird look, knowing how much I love food, but he let it go.

"Okay then," he said putting on his jacket. "I'm gonna go eat and I'll come back here after."

I waited til he left the room to gather my clothes, hair brush, and other things I needed and go shower and get ready. I had recently cut seven inches off my waist-length blonde hair and I regretted it at first but I was loving it now cause it didn't take me nearly as long to get ready. My hair was a few inches passed my shoulders now. I dried my hair, brushed my teeth and put my clothes on. I heard the door open as I pulled my shirt over my head.

"Hey, it's after ten babe," I heard Cameron say. "Do you wanna do something?"

"Actually I'm thinking of visiting Rachelle today," I said. It wasn't a total lie. I was considering seeing her later.

"Oh okay," he smiled. He and Rachelle were close friends also. "Want me to drive you?"

"No, it's fine. I'll just catch a cab," I said, scrolling through my contacts on my phone and landing on Rachelle's name.

"Cabs aren't exactly safe babe..." he gave me an unsure look.

"I'll be fine," I assured him. "Just go have fun with the guys. You don't come to New York often. Enjoy it."

"Well, alright then," he gave in. He made his way over to me and kissed me. "I'll see you at the venue. I love you."

"I love you," I smiled.

I watched him leave and then texted Rachelle that I might be over later. She responded immediately with "thank God! Keith is driving me crazy!" I laughed out loud at that. Her boyfriend Keith was a real nutball. I liked the guy. I'd known him longer than I'd known Rachelle, which was several years, but he was a total goof. You could name any weird crazy stupid stunt and he'd done it. The guy lives to be goofy. It got on a lot of peoples' nerves but hey at least he knew how to have fun with life.

I decided to chill in bed for awhile til Tyler arrived. A little while later I heard a knock at the door and leaped out of bed. I opened to door to see Tyler leaning against the wall with a dorky smirk on his face.
