Chapter 7

David came up to sit with me again during Cameron's band's set and it made me feel good to have him there. Cameron didn't seem too thrilled with it though, by the look on his face every time he glanced up to where we were sitting. Maybe he was still mad about my walk earlier. I hoped he'd just let it go and be pleasant tonight. This was their last show here for a couple months but we were all planning on staying in New York City a few more days just to chill and hang out, which I was really looking forward to. I was worried about Cameron and I fighting in front of everyone though but I kept trying to push that thought away. David squeezed my hand and gave me a small smile. I guess he noticed that I was fully aware of the pissed off glances we were receiving from Cameron.

I returned David's half smile and we watched as the show came to a close. Instead of heading straight back to where everyone else was after the show ended, David said we oughta hang out on the balcony for awhile. We sat there in silence watching as the audience filed out of the auditorium. I leaned back in the seat and stared up at the ceiling. I was more than ready to go get dinner but I was really enjoying just relaxing here. David didn't say anything and we both sat there in a comfortable silence until Cameron walked up the stairs.

"We're leaving," Cam said flatly, leaning on the staircase railing.

David and I got up and followed Cameron back to where the others were. None of us said anything until we got backstage. Martin asked if everyone was ready and we all agreed and headed for our different vehicles. Apparently we were meeting up at Charleston's, one of my favorite restaurants. This time all the guys took their separate vans and Cameron and I were the only ones in the truck. The drive to the restaurant was silent. I kept expecting him to say something derogatory but he didn't make a sound, much less even look at me. I guess he's giving me the silent treatment. I didn't understand why though.

We all filed into the biggest booth the restaurant had and gave our orders. I sat between Tyler and Cameron. I immediately thought, 'well this is gonna be awkward.' Martin started a conversation with Zach about what he was thinking about doing for the next few days we were here, which lead to the other boys throwing their ideas in the mix and then we had a big blob of 'what to do's' that nobody could decide between.

David started talking about how great the shows had been and Cameron went into deep conversation with Liam about instrumental riffs. I felt like the odd one out since no one was talking to me. I just sat there eating my okra til I felt a hand on my knee. I glanced at Tyler next to me and he was looking across the table at Martin who was trying to balance a spoon on his nose. Tyler looked down to me and smiled, going back to his food but leaving his hand on my knee.

"Well what should we do tomorrow?" Nick asked.

"I'm thinking of seeing the Statue of Liberty," David answered.

"I wanna go to the beach," said Martin.

"How bout going to the top of Empire State?" Zach suggested.

"Or we could see Broadway," Cameron chimed in.

I had done all of those things before and wasn't really feeling it. I was also pretty exhausted from being stressed about Cameron and I was considering staying at the hotel all day and just sleeping the day away while they went out on the town.

"I don't care what we do as long as there's clubbing involved," Liam said.

"What do you think, Liv?" Zach asked, pointing a spoon at me. Everyone looked to me.

"I'm actually thinking of staying at the hotel and sleeping," I answered with a shrug.

"She's already toured the cool spots of New York," Cameron explained.

"Yeah, I'm not really interested," I shook my head. "Sorry guys."

"But you've gotta do something," Martin interjected. "You can't just be bored and alone all day."

"I'm fine," I said, stirring my spoon in the mashed potatoes. I noticed Tyler's hand was still resting on my knee.

"But that's boring," David added. "Go somewhere you haven't seen. Have you spent any time outside the city?"

"I've been to Buffalo once and Albany and Syracuse but mostly just New York City," I answered.

"Then go check out the scenery outside NYC. It's awesome," he said, taking a bite of chicken.

"I wouldn't know where to go." I looked to Cameron who just shrugged.

I figured if I was going anywhere tomorrow, it would be with Cameron.

"Don't look at me. I'm clueless to New York," Cameron said.

"Well I'm going to the beach tomorrow. Whose with me?" Martin said. Several "me's" followed.

"I'm gonna check out Radio City Music Hall," Cameron said, wiping his mouth with a napkin.

"One of you goons has to show me this glorious out-of-the-city place," I interjected, looking at everyone around the table to see who would volunteer.

"Tyler's from upstate. He can show you around," David nodded to Tyler.I looked to Tyler. He glanced at Cameron and then me.

"Uh sure," Tyler said.

Cameron didn't seem excited about the idea but didn't say anything. His attitude changed a bit though. He acted more distanced from everyone. I rode with Cameron back to the hotel and he still didn't say anything. I figured I'd try to start a conversation as we left the parking garage and entered the elevator. He leaned against the wall in the elevator and I scooted closer to him. He stared up at the changing floor numbers as the elevator made its way to thirteen.

"I love you," I said, looking up at him.

"Yeah," he sighed. "I love you too."

The doors opened and we walked back to our room, passing Martin in the hall. He was doing a ridiculous rendition of the 'walk like an Egyptian' dance on his way to the elevators. I had to laugh. Cameron slid his room key in and we entered the room. He went to the bathroom and I sat on the bed taking my shoes and jeans off.

"I'm gonna leave with Zach at nine," Cameron said, walking back into the room, unzipping his jeans.

"Okay," I muttered, climbing under the sheets.

Cameron turned the lights off and got in bed next to me. We laid there in silence for about five minutes until I spoke up.

"Are you mad at me?" I whispered, staring at the ceiling.

"I don't... I'm not... it doesn't matter," he answered.

"It matters to me."

"I don't know what's wrong with me lately. I don't mean to be a dick to you. I love you. I just... I don't know. Maybe I'm crazy," he sighed.

"No. You're just stressed, as usual," I said, rubbing his arm.

"I'm sorry for yelling at you earlier."

"It's okay."

"No it's not," he said, rolling over to look at me. "It's not okay."

"Well... no. It's not," I sighed. "But whatever."

"I love you," he whispered with a concerned look. "I love you so much."

"I love you too," I said, taking in a deep breath.

"Get some rest," he said, kissing my forehead and pulling the covers up around us.

Awhile later I heard him snoring softly. I looked at the time. 1:14AM. He'd be leaving in a little less than eight hours. I didn't know what time Tyler wanted to meet up. I reached over for my phone and texted Zach.

"Do you have David's number?" I asked.

He replied with the number and I texted David.

"Hey it's Liv. What time are you guys leaving?"

"9:30 I think," he answered.

"What time should I expect Tyler?"

"Around 9:15."

I left it at that and rolled over to sleep. I had trouble falling asleep. Partially because my mind was still mulling over whatever the heck was going on with Cameron and me, but also because I started thinking about tomorrow with Tyler. I wondered what we were gonna do, where we were gonna go, and then started to imagine how it would go. I didn't know why but I was really looking forward to spending the day with Tyler. I looked at the clock again. 2:11AM.

"Seven more hours..." I mumbled to myself and fell into a peaceful sleep.

I woke up late with about thirty minutes to spare. Cameron had already showered, dressed and gotten breakfast downstairs. He was checking his emails when I sat up in bed. I looked at the clock. 8:44AM. Great. I have to rush.

"You didn't wake me up," I said to Cameron.

"Well you just looked so peaceful. I just didn't wanna wake you," he half smiled.

"I gotta get my lazy ass up," I groaned, sliding out of bed.

I tried to be quick about my morning routine. I didn't even wait for the water to heat up before jumping in the shower. I had a bad habit of being last minute when I had somewhere to go so I wanted to hurry up. By the time I'd gotten dressed and ready, it was 9:09AM. Cameron had already left without saying bye to me. I noticed he'd written on the notepad by the phone on my nightstand.

"Went to meet Zach. Be back tonight. I love you. -Cam"

He used to make his friends wait just so he could kiss me goodbye. I wondered why his attitude had changed so much in the past couple months. Then I heard a knock at the door.

"Well don't you look handsome," I smiled, opening the door to see Tyler standing there in black jeans, a red button-up and his black leather jacket. He had the ball cap on again too. He looked really good.

"Thanks," he chuckled. "Ready to go?"

"Yeah. One sec," I said, grabbing my phone and wallet.

We went downstairs and he charged two cokes to his room bill for us. Walking out to his SUV, I noticed one of the boys' vans leaving the parking lot. I wondered where they were off too. Tyler turned up the radio when we got in and switched stations until it landed on Low by Flo Rida. I love this song! We made idiots out of ourselves singing along and then Baby One More Time came on and we continued to belt out the lyrics, with the windows rolled down, earning unamused stares from random drivers around us.

"So where are we going?" I asked as we hit the highway.

"You'll just have to wait and see," he smirked with a wink. "It'll take awhile to get there though."

We spent most of the drive singing along to the radio and occasionally talking about how awesome the concerts had been. We left the city awhile ago. The scenery had changed drastically. I couldn't see the skyline in the mirror anymore. Everything was all trees and countryside the further north we headed. Tyler accelerated to eighty five once we got off the interstate and merged to a regular highway with not many other vehicles.

The sun was fading into a blanket of clouds and the breeze got cooler. I figured it'd probably rain in the afternoon. We'd been driving for almost an hour when Tyler backed off his speeding and took an off road. More and more trees surrounded us. There probably wasn't another town for several miles and I was loving the views. Nature sure is beautiful. Tyler pulled off the road and stopped the car on the shoulder.

"Are we having car trouble?" I asked, confused as to why he stopped.

"Nope," he said, taking the keys out. "We're here."
