Chapter 15

David breathed out heavily, slouching back against the couch with an expression I couldn't read.

"What are you thinking about?" I asked.

"I know how this goes," he replied, looking up at the ceiling.

"What do you mean?" I was confused.

"A couple years ago," he shifted his body slightly. "I was dating this girl named Kacey. She was... she was everything to me."

"What happened?" I asked, pulling my hair back.

"I switched schools and met Natalie," he sighed.

I raised an eyebrow, waiting for him to continue.

"Kacey and I were still dating. I didn't get to see her as much since we didn't go to the same high school anymore but she lived down the street from me so we still spent a lot of time together," he said, pushing his hair back.

I nodded, watching him stare at the ceiling fan.

"The problem was," he breathed out. "I fell in love with Natalie."

"Oh," I muttered, not sure what to say.

"Kacey was pretty pissed when she found out," he explained. "I loved them both and I felt like shit for allowing myself to have feelings for Natalie after Kacey and I had been together for a year."

"So what happened?" I asked.

"Prom came up and I went with Natalie," he sighed. "We got a hotel room after and... I cheated on Kacey."

I rested a comforting hand on his shoulder.

"Kacey found out I had sex with Natalie and she dumped me," he looked back to me. "I begged her to take me back and went through the whole 'I'm sorry, I fucked up, I love you' routine and eventually she took me back."

"What happened with Natalie?"

"Well... I was happy to be back with Kacey, but..." he swallowed. "I was madly in love with Natalie. I swore to Kacey I'd never cheat on her again and two weeks later, I don't know... maybe my emotions just got the best of me but Natalie and I were watching a movie and I just... it just happened. I realized I didn't love Kacey the way I loved Natalie and I broke up with her," David explained.

"So you dated Natalie then?" I asked.

"I wanted to..."

"You didn't?"

"I found out she was moving the next week. Before she left, she told me she wouldn't have dated me anyway because she didn't wanna risk getting her heart broken if I left her for Kacey. I never saw her again after that. It literally broke my heart. I stayed in my room for days, miserable. I wouldn't shower or hardly eat. I barely even got out of bed except to go to the bathroom," he sighed. "I was so in love with her and... she left. I did the stupid thing and ran back to Kacey. For some reason she gave me another chance and we dated for another two months until she decided I wasn't into our relationship enough for her to stay with me and she dumped me. I never spoke to her again."

"I'm sorry," I whispered, seeing the hurt look in his eyes.

"Its... its fine," he mumbled. "But the point of my story is that you have to be sure who you're in love with or you might lose them both."

I nodded, understanding.

"I'm sure I'm gonna lose Cameron," I muttered. "And I don't even know about Tyler."

"Tyler... cares deeply for you," he said. "And I know Cameron loves you. I think you need to have a long talk with both of them."

"I don't know what to say," I sighed.

"It'll come to you," he gave me a reassuring smile. "And either way, I'm not going anywhere."

That meant the world to me to hear him say that. I pulled him into a tight hug and he stroked my hair.

"Thank you," I whispered against his shoulder.

"Hey," he wiped a tear from my cheek. "I love you."

That made me smile. I knew he meant he loved me like a sister and that was perfect to me cause he acted like a big brother.

"I love you too bubba," I smiled.

We stayed there in each other's arms for a long time. It felt great to know someone was there to comfort me and wasn't gonna leave me. David meant the world to me and I was sure he was gonna be in my life for a really long time. We sat there watching infomercials until I heard someone clear their throat. We looked up to see Cameron standing there. He looked like he'd been crying. I flashed him a concerned look.

"We need to talk..."

David and I moved apart and I stood up, thanking him for being there to vent to. I looked back to Cameron who looked like a wreck.

"Let's go talk in the room," I said.

He nodded and we walked silently to the elevator. The ride up was awkward. Cameron kept playing with his fingers until the doors opened. We made our way to the room and sat down on opposite sides of the bed. I waited for him to cry or yell or something I wasn't looking forward to.

"If we can't trust each other, how can we be together?" Cameron asked, sitting against the headboard.

"I don't know what to say," I sighed, laying back against the mattress.

"I'm willing to admit I fucked up. Really bad," he said. "I can take responsibility for that. I'd like to think we could put all this shit behind us and go back to California like none of it happened. I would. I'm willing to. I know I fucked up but I swear it will never happen again. I don't know what I was thinking. I wasn't thinking! But I wanna put that in the past and move on. I don't wanna lose our relationship."

"Cam..." I exhaled heavily. "I don't know if we can put it behind us."

"I can," he sat up. "I love you. I wanna be with you. I can forget the stupid shit we did, if you will. We can move on from that fine. The problem is..."I looked up to meet his eyes."...can you move on from Tyler?"

I swallowed hard. Cameron watched me, patiently waiting for my answer. A million different things ran through my mind at once. I love Tyler. But I love Cameron. I wanna be with Tyler. But I wanna be with Cameron. This argument with myself went back and forth like that for what seemed like forever before I finally spoke up.

"Yes..."

Cameron gave me a sad smile, knowing it hurt me to say that, but I knew he was happy to hear it.

"What do you say?" he sighed. "Can we just forget this whole stupid thing never happened?"

I thought about it. I couldn't really forget it, but I could move on from it. I was still pretty hurt that Cameron would cheat on me but I've known him so long and he's never done anything like that before so I figured maybe it was just one stupid hiccup in life and it'll never happen again. I trusted Cameron. I trusted him more than anyone else in my life. I loved him. I couldn't just give up.

I released a heavy breath. "Yeah," I nodded. "Yeah we can."

He pulled me into a comforting hug and we sat there like that for several minutes. I felt bad. This feeling washed over me like that sick feeling you get when you remember a really unpleasant memory. Something just felt... wrong. I tried my best to shrug it off and then I realized something. I have to face Tyler next. I couldn't just stop talking to him and not give him an explanation.

"Cam," I mumbled.

"Mm?"

"I need to," I thought up something. "Go for a walk or something."

"I'll go with you," he offered, starting to get up.

"No I wanna be alone," I said quickly.

He gave me a slightly confused look. "Okay then."

I left our room and made my way down the hall to Tyler's.

"He's not here," David said, opening the door.

"Oh," I said quietly. "Where is he?"

"He threw a glass at the window and stormed out about twenty minutes ago," David sighed. "I have no idea where he ran off to.

"Why'd he do that?"

"Probably pissed about your love triangle."

I ran a hand through my hair, leaning against the doorframe.

"Cameron and I... fixed things, I think," I said, looking up at him.

"How'd that go?" he crossed his arms, resting back against the open door.

"We're staying together," I shrugged. "I've gotta... tell Tyler I can't see him anymore."

David frowned. "Why not?"

"Cam and I agreed to put this whole mess behind us," I explained. "Along with Tyler."

"So you're not even gonna stay friends with Ty?" he raised an eyebrow.

"Guess not."

"Liv..." David released a long heavy breath. "He loves you."

"I wish I knew what to say to that," I replied.

"I wish you'd reconsider before you throw him out of your life," he said with a hint of irritation in his voice.

"It's not like I wanna lose him," I defended. "But it's one or the other. If I don't break things off with Tyler, I lose Cameron."

David huffed. "Really? Like that's a big loss."

I frowned. "Why would you say that?"

"Look... I've known Cameron like half a year and I know he's a good guy but," he paused. "I just don't trust him not to hurt you again."

"I guess I'll just have to take that risk," I sighed.

David invited me into their room after our doorway conversation and we watched TV for about an hour before I went down to the lobby to find something to eat. That's when Martin approached me.

"Hey," he smiled, sitting down at the little four-seater table I was eating at.

"Yo," I replied, taking a bite of my scrambled eggs.

Thank God for continental breakfasts.

"I was just wondering if you've maybe seen Tyler anywhere?" he asked.

"No," I set my fork down. "David said he stormed off this morning. I haven't seen him."

"Huh," he said with a confused look. "He won't answer his phone. We've all tried calling him and it just goes to voicemail."

"He's probably just out taking a walk or something," I tried to play it down, hoping I was right. I was getting a bit worried.

"He won't text us back either," Martin said. "Could you try? Maybe he'd answer you."

I raised an eyebrow. Did I really wanna try talking to Tyler when he was probably in a horrible mood? No thanks...

"Uh..." I glanced around the lobby. "Well... alright."

Martin sat across from me, waiting patiently as I dialed Tyler's number.

"Hey you've reached Tyler Daniels. Sorry I missed your call. Leave me a message."I hung up when I heard the beep.

"Nothing," I said, looking back to Martin.

"Could you try texting him?"I shrugged.

Oh well.I pulled my phone back out. "Hey where are you?" I sent Tyler.

We stared at the phone waiting for a good ten minutes and nothing happened. No reply. Martin groaned in annoyance.

"Why does he have to be such a pain in the ass?" he said, scooted his chair back. "I'll catch up with you later. We're gonna go out looking for him."

"Let me now if you find him," I called behind him.

"Will do!" he yelled back, walking away.

A few more hours went by and no one heard from Tyler. He still wouldn't answer any of our attempts to talk to him. I texted and called him probably ten or twelve more times and left four or five voicemails but I never got an answer. We were all thoroughly worried. Even Cameron was concerned.

"He must've taken the world's longest walk or something," David said, walking into the lobby where we were all sitting. "Cause his cars still here."

"Does he have a GPS on his phone we could track?" Zach suggested.

"I have no idea," David shrugged.

"Well I'm ready to call the cops if he doesn't get back by six," Martin said.

Everyone agreed.

I looked over at the clock. It was a little after three in the afternoon and it was storming outside. Wherever he is, I'm sure he's soaked. We all spent the next forty or so minutes trying to think of places he could've gone and then everyone split up to go look. I stayed on the couch in the lobby keeping an eye out in case he walked in while everyone else was off searching.

'Where the hell could he have gone?' I asked myself. That's when it hit me. He took me to all his "thinking spots." I knew where he went to get away from everything. I bet one of those places is where he is. I thought about it, trying to figure out which one. His car was still here so I doubt he would've walked all the way to the beach. It would be absolutely insane for him to try walking an almost two hour drive up to the lake and his hometown. That left one place.

"The roof," I whispered to myself.

It was pouring outside though. Why would he be up there? I figured it was worth a look anyway.

I made a run for the elevators, riding all the way to the top and sprinting down the hall to the familiar metal door that said 'Employees Only.' I ran up the stairs and made it to the final door. It took a strong push to open it, thanks to the ridiculous wind outside, but a couple seconds later I found myself on the roof, being drenched in rain. I glanced around the area and that's when I found what I was looking for.

I hesitantly made my way over to stand next to him. He was leaning against the railing, looking down at the street. He wouldn't look at me. He'd apparently been out here for a long time. His clothes were soaked through and his hair was matted against his forehead, dripping.

"Tyler," I said softly, placing my hand next to his on the railing.

He glanced down at it for a second and then looked back to the street, ignoring me.

"Tyler," I tried again, moving an inch toward him.

He finally looked at me. All I could see in his eyes was pain and misery. His face was expressionless.

"D-do you hate me?" I asked.

He sighed, staring at the building across the street."No," he said quietly. "I can't hate you."

I moved closer to him. "Are you mad at me?"

He frowned. "I'm pissed at a lot of things right now."

"What?" I asked cautiously.

He let a heavy breath go and turned to face me.

"Cameron," he said. "For a lot of reasons."

I swallowed, staring into his eyes.

"You," he stepped closer to me. "For leading me on."

I suddenly felt a horrible feeling of guilt in my stomach. I didn't mean to lead him on. That was never my intention.

"The guys," he said. "For the nonstop calls and texts all day."

He wiped the raindrops off his face.

"But mostly myself," he sighed. "For falling in love with you."

Immediately I felt dizzy. It was that blacking out feeling you get when you stand up too fast and the room spins. I felt sick. My breathing became uneven. I grasped the railing, trying to keep my composure.

"T-Tyler," I said, not sure what to tell him.

"I talked to Cameron this morning while you were downstairs with David," he told me. "He said you guys are going back to California in the morning. He also made it very clear that you and I are never to speak to each other again."

That hit me like a brick. Back to California in the morning? I thought we weren't supposed to leave until Sunday? Cameron had this conversation with Tyler before he and I even talked. So he had planned on me agreeing to stay with him? That pissed me off to some degree but when I saw the look in Tyler's eyes, I just wanted to cry.
