Chapter 14
He looked down at me with a comforting smile and brushed my damp hair off my forehead, leaning down to kiss me softly. Something about the feeling of his sweat dampened bangs against my forehead made me smile. We laid there for a few minutes just watching each other, relaxed. He broke our gaze to glance at the clock on the nightstand. I immediately remembered we'd snuck away from the party downstairs and I realized how horrible of an excuse I'd used to leave. Who the hell takes a bathroom break for over an hour?! I was gonna be in so much trouble. Tyler noticed the change in my facial expression and he looked concerned.
"Are you okay love?" he frowned.
"My excuse to leave was a bathroom break," I mumbled. "We're so caught."
He sighed. "Maybe not..."
"What do you mean?"
"I'll make up something," he smiled. "Don't worry."
"Are you sure?"
"Do you trust me?"I saw a nervous look flash across his face.
"Yes," I smiled. "I trust you."
His smile returned and he lifted his body off of mine, rolling onto his side next to me.
"It's late," he whispered. "We should get back."
I didn't wanna go back. I didn't wanna face Cameron. I wanted to stay right here with Tyler. I cuddled up against his chest and he pulled me into a warm embrace, kissing my cheek.
"How was that?" he whispered.
"It was..." I sighed, looking for the right words.
That's when I realized something that hit me like a brick.
"The best I've ever had," I breathed.
I felt him smile against my shoulder."Me too," he whispered.
I suddenly felt so guilty for enjoying sex with Tyler more than sex with Cameron. I felt like a horrible person but I couldn't control my feelings. I didn't understand why all the sudden I felt so safe and perfect with Tyler. It wasn't supposed to be that way. Was it?
Tyler gently moved back from me and smiled down at me.
"What do you wanna do?" he asked. "Stay here or go back? We'll do whatever you want."
I wanted more than anything to just cuddle up with Tyler and stay there for the rest of the night but I knew Cameron would freak if I never returned to the party.
"I don't wanna go," I sighed. "But I think we have to."
He nodded. "Okay baby."
He climbed out of bed and fetched his clothes, walking in the bathroom to get dressed. I didn't wanna move from the covers cause I was warm and cozy but I forced myself to get up and get dressed. I went into the bathroom and Tyler was buttoning the top of his shirt. I looked at my appearance. My makeup looked alright and my dress was fine but I had sex hair. I pulled my hair into a twisty and tried to tie it back where nobody would notice how messed up it was.
"Can you help me?" Tyler asked, gesturing to his tie.
I helped him get his tie back on and he grabbed his blazer as we headed out the door. I felt gross. Dirty. I wanted to take a shower. I always felt gross after sex but I had to ignore it and go back to the party. We made our way down to the ballroom and there was still quite a few people there. Tyler pulled me aside in the hall before we walked in.
"I'm gonna make up some bullshit so just follow my lead," he said as we turned for the doors.
Walking into the ballroom, Tyler wrapped his arm around my waist and I immediately wished he hadn't when Cameron and David spotted us. We casually walked back to our table like nothing was going on. Cameron stood up crossing his arms. I tried to look innocent.
"Where the fuck have you been?!" Cameron quietly yelled, trying to keep from drawing a crowd.
"Woah," Tyler said. "Calm down. Everything's fine."
Cameron glanced around us making sure no one was watching and jerked Tyler toward him by his shirt collar.
"Don't tell me to calm down you little shit."
Tyler swallowed hard but held his ground, pulling out of Cameron's grasp.
"Cameron-" I began.
"I don't wanna hear it," he snapped at me.
I shot Tyler a look wondering when the fuck he was gonna say his bullshit that I was supposed to go along with. I really hoped his "everything's fine" line wasn't it.
"Cam, stop," Tyler said. "Nothing happened. We ran into each other in the hallway and she said she felt sick. I took her to the bathroom and held her hair back while she puked. Then I took her to get ice cream and we talked awhile. Everything is fine."
Wow. That was actually believable. And I guess it wasn't a total lie cause I did feel like I was gonna puke.Cameron stared Tyler down for a few long seconds before looking to me for confirmation.
"It's fine Cam," I said, hoping he bought it.
He sighed, patting Tyler on the shoulder. Tyler kinda flinched, expecting Cameron to punch him.
"Alright," Cameron said. "Sorry."
"It's cool dude," Tyler replied, loosening his tie.
"So," David broke in. "How bout them Yankees?"
I couldn't help laughing at the stupidity of his random line. David smiled at me and put a comforting arm around me, pulling me into a hug. He leaned down to my ear.
"I know you guys had sex," he whispered in my ear.
I immediately froze. A panicked feeling shot through me. David felt my body tense and he rubbed my back in a soothing motion.
"Your secrets safe," he added with a small smile.
I breathed out, suddenly feeling a lot calmer. I trusted David. Well, mostly anyway. I hoped he would keep this a secret.
It took about an hour to get back to our hotel. Cameron didn't wanna stay at the hotel where the event was even though it was pretty late and none of us were looking forward to driving. We ended up carpooling back. I sat up front with Cameron while Martin, David and Tyler snored in the backseat. When we reached the parking lot, Cameron hit the horn to wake everyone up.
"Fuck," Martin groaned. "That wasn't cool dude."
We all filed out and Cameron tossed the keys to David as we made our way into the lobby. We all took the same elevator up and parted ways when we reached our floor.
"Have a good time?" Cameron asked in a somewhat annoyed voice, opening our door.
"Eh. It was alright. The food could've been better," I replied, walking into the bathroom to slip my dress off.
"That's not what I'm talking about," he said, leaning against the doorframe.
I watched him in the mirror as I undressed."What are you-"
"You and Tyler," he said, not sounding too pleased.
"W-what about us?" I tried to act innocent.
"Don't give me that bullshit," he crossed his arms.
I slipped a t-shirt over my head and turned to face him.
"What?" I asked, hoping I could weasel out of this.
"What did you do?" he asked. "Make out?"
I swallowed hard.
"That's what I thought," he sighed.
"Cameron I-"
"I don't care," he turned around, walking to the door.
I followed."Cam-"
"I said I don't care!"
I flinched at the volume of his voice. He loosened his tie, pulling the knot down and shrugging his jacket off. That's when I noticed something that really pissed me off.
"Hey Cam?" I took a step toward him.
"What?" he snapped.
"What friend did you say you ran into before we met up in the ballroom?" I asked.
"I told you," he cleared his throat. "Uh... Nick."
I flashed him an amused smile. "Really?"
He looked at me confused.
"Cause you actually didn't tell me," I finished.
I noticed him tense slightly as he glanced to the floor and back up to me.
"You know what I find funny about all this?" I stepped toward him.
"What?"
"You're pissed at me for running off with Tyler," I eyed his shirt collar. "While you know just as well as I do, you're as guilty as me."
"W-what?" he stuttered.
"There's lipstick on your shirt collar," I pointed to it. "And I don't wear lipstick."
He swallowed hard, backing up toward the door."O-okay," his face flushed. "I-I guess you're right."
"Who is she?" I crossed my arms, taking another step toward him.
His back hit the door. "It... it doesn't matter."
I raised an eyebrow. "Really? It matters to me you jerk!"
He pushed his bangs back, grasping the door handle.
"Answer me," I said sternly.
"She..." he swallowed. "Her names Andrea."
"How long?"
"Two days before you got here," he sighed, looking down.
That was before I even met Tyler. I felt on the verge of tears.
"There's so many things I wanna yell at you right now," I said quietly.
"Go ahead," he looked up to me. "I deserve it."
"I just don't understand why..." I trailed off.
"I guess my paybacks gonna be a bitch huh?" he mumbled, looking guilty.
I suddenly felt really pissed off."You've already got it," I said quietly.
"Huh?" he frowned.
"Doesn't it hurt you to know I was off with Tyler?" I asked.
"Of course," he swallowed. "I.. it hurts like hell."
"Well guess what?" I leaned against the wall in front of him. "Tyler and I weren't making out."
He looked at me confused.
"We had sex!" I yelled. "How's that for payback?!"
"You what?!" he shouted, stepping in front of me.
"And you know what else?" I fired back at him. "He was better than you!"
That hit him like a brick to the face. He stumbled back against the wall, taking a couple deep breaths.
"Y-you had..." he swallowed.
"Yes," I raised an eyebrow, happy with the reaction I got from him.
"I'm gonna kill him," he said, turning for the door.
I quickly moved in front of him. "No you're not!"
"Move," he said, pushing me lightly.
"No."
"Damnit, move!"
"You're not gonna do anything to him!" I yelled back, blocking his exit.
"And why the fuck not?!"
That's when I realized how I really felt and I didn't think to stop myself before I said it.
"Because I love him!" I shouted.
He froze, swallowing hard. He wouldn't look at me. He turned around and walked over to the bed, sitting down and resting his head in his hands. I felt horrible.
"C-Cameron..." I said softly, stepping toward him.
He didn't move or say anything. I took another step, expecting him to yell at me.
"Just go," he mumbled.
"What?" I frowned.
He looked up from his hands. "Go be with him," he said in almost a whisper.
"But-"
"Go," he said. "Please. Just go."
I decided trying to further this conversation was pointless. I slammed the door behind me, earning a pissed off look from an old lady in the hallway. It was two in the morning so that wasn't my best idea. I wandered down the halls, making a big square around the entire floor, passing Tyler's room twice. I was in a really weird mood and I didn't wanna see Tyler at the moment. I pulled my phone out and called David.
"Hello?" he groaned, half asleep.
"David," I felt the tears coming.
"Hey," his voice became a bit clearer. "It's two AM hun."
"David," I started crying and sunk down to the floor.
"What's wrong? Are you okay?" he asked in a worried voice.
"I'm down the hall," I muttered in a shaky breath.
"I'll be right there."
I put my phone back in my pocket and sat back against the wall, pulling my legs against my chest. I rested my head on my knees and cried into the fabric of my pajama pants. A couple minutes later I heard footsteps in the hallway. I looked up to see David making his way toward me. I immediately jumped up from the floor, running into his arms.
"David," I cried into his shoulder.
He pulled me tight against his chest, hugging me.
"It's okay," he whispered. "I'm here."
We stood there in the hallway like that for several minutes until I was able to control my tears. I pulled back a little ways. He had a concerned look on his face. His hand moved to my cheek as he wiped away a tear.
"You don't have to tell me anything," he whispered. "I'll stand here all night if that'll make you feel better."
I managed a small smile. This boy was really amazing. Whoever ended up with him would be really lucky.
"Cameron and I had a fight," I sighed.
"Do you wanna talk about it?"
"Can we go somewhere else?" I asked, glancing down the hall.
"We can go to my room," he answered.
"I don't wanna be around Tyler right now."
He frowned. "Okay... how bout the lobby?"
I nodded and he wrapped an arm around my waist, leading me to the elevators. We made our way down to the lobby and plopped down on the couch. I draped my legs over his lap and he waited patiently for me to say something.
"I think he hates me," I mumbled.
"Why would you think that?" he rubbed my back in a soothing motion.
"We had a huge fight and I told him Tyler and I had sex," I felt the tears returning.
He released a heavy sigh. "Wow," he said softly.
"He cheated on me again tonight too though," I said. "He's been with this girl since a couple days before I got here."
He frowned, pulling me closer to him. "I'm so sorry," he whispered.
"After I told him about me and Tyler, he wanted to go kick his ass," I said, leaning my head on his shoulder. "And I told him he couldn't."
"What did he say?"
"He asked why and I said..." I swallowed, looking away from him.
"What?" he whispered.
"I said..." I felt a tear slide down my cheek. "I... I love him... I love Tyler."
He didn't say anything. He just nodded and hugged me against his chest. I cried into his shirt for a good five minutes before my emotions somewhat died down. I looked up at David.
"Cameron's so upset," I mumbled. "I feel horrible."
"Can I ask you something?" David muttered. I nodded.
"A-are you..." he thought for a couple seconds. "Are you sure you love Tyler?"
I thought about it. I thought I did. I'm not one hundred percent sure, but I think so.
"I-I think so."
"You don't know?" he raised an eyebrow.
"I'm pretty sure," I started feeling nervous.
He let a heavy sigh go, looking to the floor."You don't have to answer this cause I know it's really personal but..." he looked back to me.
"When you and Tyler... you know... was it... did you have sex or make love...?"
A weird feeling washed over me as I thought back to our evening in the hotel room.
"Um..." I mumbled.
"You don't have to tell me," he patted my back softly.
"It... we..." I stuttered, not sure what to say.
I thought about what we'd done and how we'd gone about it. It started out as us just wanting each other but once we got to the room he was so sweet and caring and his whole attitude changed. He didn't wanna make one wrong move or push me into anything I didn't wanna do. He was gentle and loving about it. I hadn't even realized what we were doing when we did it. I understood it now.
"We made love," I whispered.
He hugged me a bit tighter, rubbing my arm in an attempt to comfort me.
"Did it feel right?" he asked.
"It felt... perfect," I breathed.
"You love him," he whispered.
Then it really became clear. I wasn't sure if I was IN love with Tyler, seeing as I'd only known him like a week, but I did love him.
"Yeah... I do," I swallowed.
"The problem is... I love Cameron too."
