We were all stuck in an eerie silence.

How is it possible that he doesn't remember us??

We put Renjun to bed a while ago since he asked for somewhere to sleep. The rest of us sat with the white haired stranger, and discussed this anomalous issue.

"Who are you?"

I asked him.

"Yoonho"

"Ok? So Yoonho, do you know what happened to Renjun?"

"The man that attacked him, was my brother Zuho. We were both born from Renjun. We're his counterparts"

"H-How is that possible?!"

Jeno asked, still a bit shaken up.

"When a child is born from a demon and an angel, the child will have some qualities of the parents, but most parts of them that they inherit kinda separate from their actual bodies. May I ask a question to your caregiver?"

"What is it?"

Taeyong asked.

"Did he do much when he was born?"

"No, he usually just slept for most of the day. He started being more active when he was two or three years old"

"That's the reason why. Losing counterparts like us is kinda like losing your heart. You become an empty shell. They usually can't remember anything, and they don't do much. It's better if that happens at a younger age, since it's not likely for small children and babies to retain any knowledge or memories"

"So then, you're like Renjun's angel, and Zuho is his demon?"

I asked.

"Exactly"

"So why did Renjun-hyung lose his memories of us?"

Jisung asked, still comforting a crying Chenle.

"Zuho was trying to pull him to the dark side. He wanted him to let his demonic powers consume him, but luckily, Renjun was strong enough to resist it, despite the torment he was receiving. However, Zuho has the power to do terrible things to others. It seems that he was not only draining his life force, but he was also trying to use his Demonic Infusion to try and taint his mind with a dark aura. While he did that, he also wiped his memories away completely. He couldn't even remember his own name"

We all fell silent.

"But I helped him. When I was healing him, I took away the dark aura that Zuho was able to implant in his mind, and I restored his life force. And I did you all a favor by returning all of his memories"

"But how come he doesn't know us???"

Jaemin asked worriedly.

"There's only so much I can do. I returned all of his memories. He does remember you, but those memories of you all are so deep inside his heart, that they're out of reach. That's why he can't seem to remember you all, but everything else is in tact. He even remembers how to use all the powers he's gained so far"

"But..., h-how can we help him remember us...?"

Chenle asked, rubbing his teary eyes.

"A song"

"A song?"

We all tilted our heads.

"I'd say start off by showing him things that created a memory with you all, but the main thing that should help him remember is a song. But it can't be just any song. It has to be a song that he absolutely cherishes and loves. It has to truly mean something to him. He won't remember it at first, but the more he listens it, he'll slowly but gradually start to remember"

We all nodded, and started thinking of our game plans.

While everyone was trying to make Renjun remember us with many objects, foods, and movies, I scrolled through Renjun's playlist that he put on my phone.

The only way to get his memories out is with a song that truly means something to him. We can't keep waisting time trying to pointlessly bring them out with other things.

I kept scrolling through the different songs and their lyrics, until I found one. It fits the description of being meaningful, and it has a cute beat to it, just how Renjun likes it~. And it has relevance to this situation, and Renjun's life in general.

I just have to wait for the right moment.

Mark, Jeno, Donghyuck, Jaemin, and Jisung suddenly burst into the Penthouse where I was, and they were panicking.

"Chenle! He's trying to leave!"

Mark yelled from the doorway.

"What do you mean he's trying to leave?!"

"No matter what we do, he still can't remember us...!"

"And he just started acting like he was getting weirded out by us!"

Jaemin and Jeno yelled.

"I even tried cracking my jokes, but it didn't work..."

Donghyuck paced back and forth stressfully.

"Lele, we already tried to stop him. If we can't find that song, we're definitely gonna lose him, with no hope of ever getting him back..."

Jisung sighed.

I could see that all of them were holding back tears. In an instant, I shot up and told them about the song I chose, and I told them my plan. They all agreed, and we quickly ran to where our hyungs were trying to keep him.

We've all sung this song together before. If he can remember the order we sang it in and remember his parts, there's a chance we can save him and retrieve his memories.

On The First Floor

We were still on the elevator when we saw Renjun walking to the front door while our hyungs tried to stop him.

He never uses the front door!

I unlocked my phone and had the song ready, while we anxiously waited for the elevator door to open.

When it finally opened, we all started running to him.

"Renjun! Wait a second!"

Mark yelled, and he stopped.

He slowly turned to us, but kept his head down. He had a very emotionless look on his face, and he looked very pale. He really looked like an empty shell...

In an instant I turned on the song, and the instrumental before the lyrics started playing. This song came from one of Renjun's favorite shows. A show about a boy who had magical friends. His mother was magical like them, but he didn't have powers.

He felt left out because he couldn't go with them on their magical missions. But one day, he got his first power, and continued to get powers. He was able to go on missions, and continued to get stronger.

Renjun really loves this show because he said it reminds him of himself, and our family.

This song talks somewhat about that. This song is from Steven Universe, season five, episode twenty five. And the song is, Familiar.

"Renjun, please don't go..."

Mark pleaded.

"...Why not? ...I'll only end up hurting you all more if I can't remember you..."

We all stood in silence.

Even his voice sounds empty...

"...I don't know why,...but I can't help but feel like you're all very important to me... I can't get this feeling out of my head... Why does it feel so f-"

"♪ Familiar, why is this so familiar...? ♪"

I politely cut him off at the right moment, and started singing along to the lyrics.

His eyes widened a little, but his expression stayed the same. So I continued.

"♪ Familiar, like something I use to know. Familiar, staring up at the ceiling. Familiar, I swear that I know this feeling... ♪"

"♩ ...W-Where everybody wants me to be mom... ♩"

Renjun actually started singing his first part!

He still had the same blank expression, and his voice was still empty and without passion. It was like his memories were singing for him, considering the look of uncertainty and confusion on his face.

But he continued singing.

"♩ ...And everything I do, I do it wrong... I'll s-sway them with a joke, or with a song. A-And maybe that will help us get along... ♩"

"♪ Familiar, why is this so familiar...? ♪"

Mark started singing.

"♪ Familiar, like something I use to do ♪"

Jaemin followed.

"♪ Familiar, she used to throw a tantrum. Insisting that, 'Hey, I'm a Diamond too' ♪"

Jisung continued.

"♪ I bet she drove them crazy all the time... ♪"

Donghyuck sang with a pained smile.

"♪ They love her but they're leaving her behind... ♪"

Jeno followed with the same pained smile.

"♪ With more important places they should be... ♪"

He continued.

We thought we were losing him, but then, when his next part came...

"♩ A-And hanging out with someone just like, me~ ♪"

The enthusiastic and passionate singing we all knew far too well made us look up with hope.

Renjun wasn't pale anymore, and his expression was back to being happy!

He didn't look empty anymore, and for the first time in what felt like years, he smiled at us!

We all looked to Yoonho for confirmation, and he just smiled and nodded.

Renjun got his memories back! He remembers us again!

He continued singing and smiling, and slowly started walking to us.

"♫ Familiar~, that's why it's so familiar~. Familiar~, like someone I used to be~. Familiar~, but this time I've had some practice~. At helping a struggling family~ ♫"

We couldn't contain our tears of joy when Renjun held his arms out for a hug.

All six of us quickly embraced him in hug, and he continued singing along to the rest of the song.

"♫ Oh~, I'll get them all together in one place~. And once we're all together, face to face~, I'll show them all the error of their ways~. And stop their spread of terror across space~~~ ♫"

We could tell that after he finished the song, he started crying too.

It felt so good to be in each other's embrace. It's only been a few hours, but we really missed him~.

We finally have our brother back~.
