Chapter 67
Nearly a week had passed by and Caroline seemed to be getting stronger everyday. No restlessness at night, no headaches, she even wanted to travel into a nearby city to see if she could find art supplies to start painting again.
As they walked along the shop filled streets she stopped in front of a clothing store admiring the window displays. "Mind if we go inside to look around" she asked. Tim smiled as he followed her inside. He noticed she kept admiring the summer dress in the window.
"Would you like that" he asked while motioning for someone to assist her.
"Maybe" she replied biting her bottom lip. She had just begun to wear some of the shorts and tops he had packed, hoping she would feel comfortable enough to wear them again. The clerk took the dress from the display, showing Caroline the dressing room to try it on. A few minutes later she returned, giving Tim a shy smile.
"Fit perfectly, didn't it" he remarked "Is there anything else here you would like".
"No, this enough" she replied as he paid for the dress.
They proceed along the shops until they found an art supplier. Tim stood back watching as she conversed with the shop owner about the various paintings on the walls, the local artists and vacationers that had provided their works for the shops. She definitely was in her elemant. He hadn't seen her this comfortable and happy in months. She gathered the items she wanted, trying to keep it to a minimum, not wanting Tim to spend an exorbitant amount of money on her.
"Are you sure you have enough of what you need, Sweetie" he asked as the owner began ringing up the sale. "Yes, I don't want to get too much. We'll be going home soon" she replied.
Tim paid for the items while the shop owner asked her to bring one of her finished pieces in before she leaves. She assured her that they would hang it along with the others. Caroline smiled and thanked her for her kindness before they left the shop.
"Would you like a quick bite to eat before we head back" Tim asked, putting their purchases in the rental car.
"Maybe something light" she answered softly.
"You feeling ok" he asked a bit concerned over her response.
"Just a bit warm for some reason" she answered "I'm not really hungry. A cool drink would be ok, though"
He grabbed a couple tropical ice teas, bringing them back to the air conditioned car where Caroline was sitting. She sat with her head against the headset wearing her sunglasses. "You have a headache" he asked quietly setting the drinks in the cup holders. Caroline slowly nodded her head. "Ok, let's get you back to the beach house and get your medication before it worsens" he said pulling onto the roadway.
The beach house was only a few miles from the town they visited, making it a quick trip back. Tim helped Caroline in, grabbed her meds and helped her lay down on the bed before retrieving their items from the car. When he returned inside he found her sitting on the bathroom floor, having vomited in the toilet. He sat down behind her holding her hair back while she continued to empty her stomach. He grabbed the towel off the rack quickly running cold water over it to for her to use. Once finished she leaned back, exhausted.
"I'm sorry.....I'm sorry I ruined a beautiful day" she cried softly.
Tim placed his hands along her arms, gently stroking her "Darlin, you didn't ruin anything. The headaches are going to come without warning at times. This was most likely from being in the sun too much today. You're probably a little dehydrated"
"But I've been doing so much better, feeling better. What if...what if it's growing again" she asked with fear in her voice.
"You are doing better, you are getting better everyday. I really think this is just due to too much sun. Please try to stay calm, let your medication take effect so you can rest" he told her trying to soothe her fear.
"I doubt there's any in me after this " she said trying to stand. Tim helped her to her feet and had to agree she most likely had vomited what she had just taken. He gave her half of a second dose and helped her back to the bed. He darkened the room as best he could to keep the brightness from her. He grabbed a different cloth from the bathroom to place over her eyes and gently placed it across them.
"Tim, would you mind laying with me, at least til I fall asleep. I don't want to be alone right now" she asked quietly.
"I don't mind at all, tell me if there is anything else you need and I'll get it for you" he told her, sliding in along side her.
"Could you just hold me, I'm a bit nervous for some reason" she told him.
"Absolutely , try to relax, I'm right here, you're going to be fine, just rest" he said gently rubbing her arm til they bothe fell asleep.
