Bella and I walked side by side as we entered the bleak building, my arm hooked through hers as her hands were stuffed into her jacket pockets. A sudden wave of heat hit us and it heated our chilled bodies. I smiled slightly and unhooked my arm from Bella's and slipped my beanie off, no longer cold enough to wear it. Bella lead the way to the school office and I blindly followed her.
"Can I help you?" A small older lady smiled kindly at us as we entered the small area. Bella and I walked over to her to introduce ourselves.
"Yeah, uh, I'm Isabella Swan and this is my sister Clarissa Swan," Bella informed her. I eyed the lady as recognition flashed across her eyes ad she stared at the both of us. She undoubtedly knew who we were seeing as how Charlie had to come to sign us up for school.
"Oh yes." Her smile widened as she dug through a filing cabinet placed next to her. Finding what she was looking for, she handed the papers to us. "These are your school schedules along with a map for the both of you." We silently took the papers from her grasp and examined them after thanking her. Well, I thanked her, and Bella just sort of nodded.
Bella and I left the office and waited until we were in the hallway to compare our schedules. I knew we wouldn't have any classes together considering Bella was a year older than I am, but she just wanted to double-check.
"We only have lunch together." She said as she looked over our schedules. "Oh wait we have gym together too." Her eyes brightened as I smiled at her.
"Well looks like we won't be all alone after all." I hooked my arm through hers again as we walked down the hall to find our lockers- which were conveniently next to each other.
After finding our lockers, Bella and I stuffed our coats in them. I slipped off my beanie and placed it into my backpack- which I, unfortunately, had to carry with me to all of my classes.
"Good luck." I grinned at her. She nodded hesitantly with a grim look on her face and slammed her locker shut before walking away to find her class. After seeing her around the corner, I closed my locker and leaned against it to study the map.
"You look lost." I looked up from the map and turned my head to see a red-haired girl looking at me as she opened her locker. "You must be one of the new girls everyone keeps talking about. I'm Jennah." She stuck her hand out and I politely shook it, a smile on my face.
"I'm Clarissa but you can call me Clary." She returned my smile and closed her locker.
"What's your first class?" She nodded at the schedule in my hand. I handed it to her and she nodded as a small smile graced her face. "AP Government, impressive." She handed the piece of paper back to me and I tucked it into the folder along with the map. "I'll show you to your class." I nod gratefully and follow her down the hallways that were still littered with students. "You are aware that you're taking a class with nothing but juniors and seniors?" She eyed me warily, one of her eyebrows raised.
"Yeah." I chuckled. She nodded and flipped her straightened red hair behind her shoulders.
"I had Mr. Jefferson for Government last year, he's pretty chill. As long as you pay attention he won't give you a hard time." She began. "I'm a senior now so I don't have him anymore."
"Oh that's cool, I'm a sophomore." I looked at her and she chuckled.
"So this is your class." She pointed to the door a foot away from us. "I'm only here half a day but I'll see you at lunch Clary. Have fun learning." She smiled brightly before walking away from me.
I eyed the wooden door cautiously before twisting the silver doorknob and pulling the door open. The first thing I notice when I walk into the room is that the classroom already has a few students in it. They're all perched on the table tops staring silently at me, no longer interested in the conversation they were just having. I shut the door behind me and walk over to the teacher sitting behind the desk.
"Hello, you must be one of my new students." He smiled kindly at me, putting the papers he was looking at down. "I'm Mr. Jefferson."
"I'm Clarissa Swan." I shook his outstretched hand politely.
"Well welcome to Forks High." He grinned. "The only empty desk is the one in the far back corner. The one that doesn't have a student sitting on it." He joked. I chuckle slightly and thanked him before walking to the desk that would be mine for the remainder of the year.
I sat down and placed my backpack on the floor beside my feet as I looked over the school map, trying to locate all of my other classes. I subtly looked around the room and found that everyone was still looking at me.
"Hello." I grinned at all of them. The four teens in the front of the room blushed and sheepishly turned away not bothering to reply to me. I turned my head to face the other three teens that didn't bother to hide the fact that they were watching me.
The tall blonde girl watched me with a blank look on her face. Her eyes met mine before she turned to face the dark-skinned boy who had his arms wrapped around her waist from behind. He looked away and smirked at her before whispering something into her ear. I looked away from them and observed the tall muscled boy sitting beside me at a desk. His hand was placed tightly over his mouth as he glared at me. My eyes widened and I quickly looked away from him, scooting my desk over a bit.
The bell finally rang but in the corner of my eye, I could still see the boy had his hand over his face and his other hand was clenched around the desk. His already pale skin looked to have whitened a few more shades the tighter his grip got. I avoided looking at him anymore and instead tried my best to listen to whatever was being taught to us. Before I knew it, the class was over and the boy made no move to move. I grabbed my bag from the floor and exited the room, with a kid named Thomas beside me to show me to my next class.
"So how are you liking school so far?" Thomas, a short lanky boy with shaggy blonde hair, asked me as he guided me down the halls.
"It's okay so far," I answered honestly.
"Make any friends so yet?" He asked as he pushed through a group of kids goofing off in the middle of the hallway.
"Uh, I met this one girl named Jennah earlier." I shrugged.
"Oh, Jennah's my older sister." He smiled at me.
"Oh, that's cool." I grinned back at him. We didn't say anything after that. It was slightly awkward but only because everyone would stop and stare as we walked by. We finally made it to the gym and I quickly thanked Thomas before rushing over to Bella, who was talking to a few people.
"Hey." I smiled at my sister. She turned to me and smiled back slightly before introducing me to the people she was talking to.
"This is my sister Clary. Clary this is Mike and Jessica." I smiled at the two teens. Mike smirked at me and Bella while Jessica glared at the both of us. And that's how gym went- with a jealous girl, a clumsy Bella, and a flirty boy who kept staring at Bella.

"It was stupid. Everyone knows zombies don't talk." Jessica told Eric, one of Bella's new friends, as we sat at the lunch table discussing some new zombie movie that just came out.
"That's what made it good- it was beyond stupid!" Eric laughed loudly while Angela, another friend of Bella's, whacked him with a piece of bread.
"Who are they?" Bella asked out of nowhere. We all turned to her and followed her gaze to a group of pale teens walking into the cafeteria.
"The Cullens and the Hales." As if they heard Jessica say their name, they all turned to us briefly before glancing away and walking over to a secluded table in the corner of the room.
"The small one with the spiky-looking hair is Alice Cullen and she's with Jasper Hale, the blonde one who looks like he's in pain." We all watch as they're the first ones to sit at the table before turning to look back at the others. "The blonde leggy girl is Rosalie Hale, she's Jasper's sister and the dark-skinned guy is Dominic- her boyfriend." They sit beside the other two at the table and just cuddle into each other.
"And them?" Bella asked, jerking her head to the other two boys who are nudging each other back and forth as they walk to their family.
"Edward and Emmett Cullen. Edward is the one with spiky hair and Emmett is the muscled one." Emmett, the boy who sat next to me in Government. "They're single but don't even try. They don't date because apparently, no one here is good enough for them." Jessica scoffs. I turn to her and raise an eyebrow at her.
"They don't look related," Bella commented.
"They're not," Angela explained. "Dr. Cullen and his wife adopted them. Rosalie and Jasper are the only two that are blood-related."
"Oh," Bella said simply. I turned back to my sandwich but continued to listen to the conversation the girls were having.
"Yeah, they moved here like two years ago from somewhere in Alaska and until you two arrived they were all the people here could talk about." Jessica sniffed. I rolled my eyes at her bitchiness and took another bite of my sandwich.
I glanced up as I heard my name being called and saw Jennah and Thomas waving over at me from across the room. I nodded at them and looked over at Bella. "I'll see you later." I smiled at her before standing up and grabbing my tray. Unfortunately for me, the doors that Jennah and Thomas were standing by were by the Cullens along with the closest trashcan. I confidently walked over to the trashcan and emptied the contents on the tray before stacking the tray on the cart beside it. I met up with Jennah and Thomas and we walked out of the cafeteria together.
But feeling eyes on me, I turned around and met eyes with Emmett Cullen, who was glaring at the back of my head. I turned back around and ignored his heavy stare as we walked out of his eyesight.
Why the hell was he glaring at me?
for American high school levels,
her being a sophomore means she's in her 10th year of school. I know schooling is different for different countries but the comment section has translated it pretty well 🤍
