CHAPTER TWENTY-ONE - TRAINING IN AMERICA

TADAHIRO WAS CURRENTLY AT NARITA International Airport with his volleyball team. "You guys do know you didn't have to see me off, right?" He asked his teammates.

Everyone was saying goodbye to him before he headed off to America. Well, except for Kageyama and Hinata, who had to stay behind to take supplementary classes. The red head felt bad for his two juniors. Especially since they were looking forward to the training camp. But it couldn't be helped.

Tadahiro was currently wearing a black shirt with a red plaid flannel over it, black jeans, and white tennis shoes. A large black duffel bag was swung over his right shoulder.

"You're acting like I'm leaving forever." Tadahiro added.

"We know. But I wouldn't be a good boyfriend or captain if I didn't see you off, Hiro." Daichi informed.

"Say, Kagami-san. Would youโ€”"

"No."

"But I haven't evenโ€”"

"I unfortunately know what you're gonna ask, Tanaka-chan." Tadahiro interrupted, making the rest of his teammates chuckle. Tadahiro turned to Daichi. "Dai-chan, please don't try to kill Tetsu when you see him."

Daichi sighed. "Fine. I won't do anything." He promised.

Tadahiro smiled. "Well, I best be off before I miss my flight. I'll see you guys when I get back." He said.

"Good luck with your training, Hiro." Daichi said as the rest of his teammates called out their own goodbyes.

Tadahiro held up a peace sign as he entered the security line. Once he got through, He walked through the airport, finally finding Gate E as he sat down, placing his duffel bag on the seat next to him.

Meanwhile, the rest of Karasuno had stepped off the bus. Nishinoya and Tanaka quickly looked up to see a transmission tower, to which they mistook it for something else entirely different.

"Is that..."

"Could that be..."

"The Skytree?"

"No, that's just a transmission tower." Kai Nobuyuki, Nekoma's vice captain, had corrected with a sheepish but amused look.

Kuroo, who was beside his teammate, had turned away and hunched over a bit, while grabbing his stomach and letting out a hyena-like laugh.

He stopped laughing and looked at Karasuno. "Hey, where's Hirโ€” I mean, Kagami?" Kuroo asked, realizing their tall wing spiker was missing.

"Not that it's any of your business, but Hiro's heading to America for a day to train. He'll be back tomorrow." Daichi explained, glaring at Kuroo.

Even his team could tell that their captain had a burning hatred for Kuroo, but had decided not to show it.

"I see. Well, that's unfortunate. Especially since he had some people wanting to see him again. But I suppose that could wait until his return." Kuroo said.

"Flight 3660 from Tokyo, Japan to Los Angeles, California is now boarding." The woman said over the intercom.

Tadahiro picked up his duffel bag and went to join the boarding line.

Tadahiro gave the T.A his boarding pass and his passport. The T.A checked off both of them as the red head headed down the tunnel.

He entered the plane, ducking under the entrance so he wouldn't hit his head.

He found his seat aisle, swinging his duffel bag in one of the compartments before taking his seat and putting in his earphones.

House of Memories by Panic! At The Disco filled his ears. Even though he was Japanese, he enjoyed a lot of English songs.

Tadahiro let out a deep sigh. 11 hours on the plane was going to be long.

โ•โ•โ•โ• โˆ˜โ—ฆแต’ ๐“…“ แต’โ—ฆโˆ˜ โ•โ•โ•โ•

Tadahiro had finally arrived in America. Most specifically, Los Angeles International Airport.

He stretched out his limbs before getting up and grabbing his duffel bag from the compartment and swinging it over his shoulder.

He walked out with the other arrivals as he scanned the airport.

"Tadahiro!"

The red head looked towards where the voice was to find a 22 year old that was 208 cm with black curly haired male with silver eyes wearing a gray jumper, denim jeans, and white Converse.

"Jordon. It's been a long time." Tadahiro spoke in perfect English.

"Oh? Your English is getting better, Tadahiro. It's not as raspy as it was when I first met you." Jordon joked. Tadahiro playfully punched his shoulder.

The two of them walked out of the Los Angeles airport and into the parking lot, where Jordon had parked his car.

Tadahiro placed his duffel bag in the trunk of Jordon's 2011 silver Hyundai Sonata before getting into the passenger seat, while Jordon got into the driver's seat.

Jordon started his car as he backed out of his parking space and headed onto the road. Both Tadahiro and Jordon making small talk in the car until they finally reached Jordon's apartment.

Tadahiro followed Jordon inside as he got changed into his gym clothes and following Jordon back to his car.

They arrived at the building where the National team normally practiced. Tadahiro entered the huge gym with Jordon.

"I'm back, everyone! There's someone I'd like you to meet!" Jordon told his teammates. "This is Tadahiro Kagami. My volleyball friend from Japan that I was telling you about. He'll be training with us just for today. Also, he can speak English, so don't worry."

Tadahiro saw half of the team sigh in relief at that information, almost making him snicker. He saw a very familiar coach walking up to the team.

"Coach Stevens, it's nice to see you again." Tadahiro told him.

"You as well, Tadahiro. I've seen you've grown taller." Coach Stevens replied.

"Oh? You're from Japan, right? You probably play like a monkey just like the other Japanese players." A blonde insulted.

"Nate!" Jordon exclaimed at his captain.

Tadahiro narrowed his eyes. "And who are you?" He questioned.

"Nate Gold Jr. I'm the captain and an opposite hitter for America's National Team." Nate replied.

Tadahiro smirked. "Alright then, Nate. I really don't appreciate you insulting my home country like that. If you're insecure, just say so." He said. This caused everyone else to howl in laughter. Even Coach Stevens threw in some chuckles.

"He's got you there, Gold!"

"Now, now, captain, are you going to let him talk to you like that?"

Nate growled as he glared at the red head. He tossed the volleyball up in the air as he spiked it in the air. In which Tadahiro received it perfectly.

"Tell you what, Red. If you think you're so good at volleyball, then how about a practice match against me? What do you say?" Nate suggested.

"All right, blondie. Just don't be a sore loser when you loose." Tadahiro accepted the challenge.

The team separated into two teams. Jordon was of course on Tadahiro's team since he wanted to support his longtime friend.

Nate's team served first as Aaron, one of the wing spikers, did a serve and America's libero, Thomas, received the ball as it headed towards America's setter, Emmett, who got into detting position.

"Tadahiro!" Emmett shouted at the red head, who ran up towards the net as Emmett tossed to him. Tadahiro jumped up.

"Block him!" Nate demanded as two blockers jumped up at the same time Tadahiro did.

Tadahiro was able to spike past the two blockers and gain a point for his team.

"Wah! Emmett, you're just as amazing as my team's setter back home is!" Tadahiro exclaimed.

"Oh, that first-year you were telling me about?" Jordon questioned as Tadahiro nodded.

"Which reminds me, I should give Daichi a call after this game." Tadahiro stated.

The game resumed, both Tadahiro and Nate's team played well, until finally, Tadahiro's team ended up victorious.

"Hard to believe he's Asian!" A middle blocker, Jackson, exclaimed as he was trying to catch his breath.

Tadahiro looked over to Nate. "Perhaps next time, you'll learn not to insult my home." He said as Nate just growled at him.

Tadahiro walked over to his bag to dig out his phone. Once he found it, he pressed Daichi's contact and waited for him to pick up.

(A/N: Okay, I know Japan is 15 hours ahead of the United States, and yes, I looked this up, but for the sake of the plot and my brain, they're gonna be the same time).

"Dai-chan!" Tadahiro greeted, switching to Japanese once his boyfriend picked up the phone.

"Hiro, I was wondering when you'd call. How's America?" Daichi asked.

"It's all right. I just got done with a practice game with the captain who thought he could insult my home country and get away with it." Tadahiro answered.

"Oi, Kagami-san! I hope you showed him!" Tadahiro heard Tanaka say in the background.

"I'm on speaker, am I?" Tadahiro sighed when Daichi hummed in reply. "And of course I did, Tanaka-chan, who do you take me for? I kicked his ass."

Tadahiro chuckled as he looked over to Nate. He could hear Jordon snickering as well.

"He's insulting me in Japanese, is he?" Nate mumbled as Jordon nodded in reply.

"Well, I better let you guys get back to practice. I just wanted to check in. See you tomorrow, Dai-chan!" Tadahiro bid farewell to him and ended the call. He placed his phone back in his bag and turned to face everyone else.

"That reminds me, Tadahiro, does Taiga still play basketball?" Jordon questioned.

"He does. His high school team won the Winter Cup a few months ago, why?" Tadahiro asked, easily switching back to English which shocked some of the team members.

"Nate's younger brother, Nash, also plays basketball. He's a year older than Taiga is though." Jordon responded.

"He's also captain of his basketball team, Jabberwock." Nate added.

"That's right."

Everyone turned around to see Nate's younger brother, Nash Gold Jr, walking into the gym.

"Nash, I didn't know you were visiting." Nate greeted.

"I wanted it to be a surprise. You got a new member?" Nash questioned.

"He's only here for today, actually. That's Tadahiro Kagami, he's Jordon's friend from Japan." Nate responded. "This is Nash, my younger brother."

"Nice to meet you." Nash greeted.

"I heard you play basketball, correct?" Tadahiro questioned as Nash nodded. "I have a younger brother back home who plays as well."

"He any good?" Nash asked.

Tadahiro laughed. "I like to think so. Of course, I might be biased because he's my brother. His high school team did win the Winter Cup, however." He responded.

Tadahiro had gotten to know Nash and the team a bit more before the team for their practice match showed up. Eventually, the doors opened and in walked the team.

"Tadahiro! Come here! There's someone I would like you to meet!" Coach Stevens called out as the red head raised an eyebrow but walked over anyhow.

"Tadahiro this is Takashi Utsui. He's the training coach for the Irvine Polar Bears, the team we're practicing against. Takashi, this is Tadahiro Kagami. He was my former student that I was telling you about." Coach Stevens explained.

"Nice to finally meet you." Utsui said. "You must be the boy my son has been talking about. I'm Wakatoshi's father."

"I can see the resemblence." Tadahiro admitted.

"You go to Shiratorizawa?"

"Ah, no sir. I go to Karasuno."

"Karasuno, eh?" Utsui hummed in thought. "Haven't heard that name in a while."

The practice match began against the National Team versus the Irvine Polar Bears. Utsui sat by Coach Stevens as he closely watched Tadahiro jump up and made it past two blockers, earning the National Team a point.

"He has an amazing jumping ability." Utsui commented.

"It's his weapon as well as his height." Coach Stevens agreed. "It's a shame that he's not the ace for his high school team."

"You planning on recruiting him for the national team?"

"I believe he mentioned that he wants to stay in Japan after high school."

The two of them watched in silence as Tadahiro and Jordon blocked a spiker from scoring, leaving Utsui to his thoughts.

It was around 9pm when Tadahiro and Jordon arrived at LAX for Tadahiro's flight back to Japan. Jordon stood at the departures as he bid farewell to Tadahiro.

"It was nice seeing you again, Tadahiro. I wish you could spend more time here." Jordon said.

"I wish I could too, Jor. But my team needs me back before the Spring Inter-High starts." Tadahiro reminded him.

"Will you update me on if your team makes to it nationals?" Jordon asked.

"You already know I will." Tadahiro answered.

"Flight 4530 from Los Angeles, California to Tokyo, Japan is now boarding."

"Well, that's my cue." Tadahiro stated. He waved to Jordon as he joined the few others that were also lining up to the board the plane.

He gave the T.A his boarding pass and his passport as the T.A checked both of them and Tadahiro headed down the tunnel once again.

When he was on the plane, he placed his duffel bag in the compartment and sat down.

A woman and a child sat down next to him. The child looked about ten and sat in the middle seat while the woman sat in the aisle seat.

"Wow mister. You're super tall. Do you play sports?" The child asked him in Japanese.

"Satoshi! He might not understand what you're saying!" The woman, most likely his mother, exclaimed in panic.

"It's alright, ma'am. I'm Japanese-born." Tadahiro reassured her. The woman sighed in relief.

"And to answer your question, Satoshi. I do. I'm a volleyball player." Tadahiro told the brunette boy.

"So cool! I'm gonna be a volleyball player when I'm older too!" The boy, Satoshi, exclaimed.

Tadahiro only smiled as the plane lifted off into the air.

By the time Tadahiro had finally landed in Japan, it was morning. He stepped into the airport and went towards the train station so he could meet up with his team where the training camp was.

He entered the gym just in time to see a volleyball fly right to him. He jumped up and spiked it, sending it to the court.

"Oi, Boku-chan. Watch where you're spiking that thing." Tadahiro announced.

"T-Tall!" Everyone in the gym looked towards Lev, who looked like he was about to pass out at the sight of the red head.

"He's even taller than me! Is this the guy my seniors were telling me about? That player on Karasuno's team with the insane jumping ability?" Lev thought.

"Kagami!" Bokuto exclaimed rushing to meet the male who just stepped aside, letting Fukurลdani's captain crash to the ground.

"I see you're as energetic as ever, Boku-chan." Tadahiro sighed before heading over to his team.

"Hiro, welcome back." Daichi greeted.

"Yo. Nice to see everyone again." Tadahiro said.

"You have remarkable timing, senpai. We're just about to play Nekoma." Tanaka informed.

Tadahiro raised an eyebrow. "Oh? Is that why one of their new members is staring at me in excitement?" He questioned as everyone looked over to see Lev looking towards the giant third-year with sparkles in his eyes.

"Now that I think about it. Who is he anyway?" Tadahiro asked.

"Haiba Lev. He wasn't there when we were against Nekoma for Golden Week. He's one of their first-years." Asahi replied.

"I see..." Tadahiro hummed. "Well then. Let's show Nekoma who's boss, eh?"

His team smiled back at him. "Yeah!" They responded.
