❁ personality ❁
adriana is an unstoppable force, like sunlight bursting through the clouds—bright, warm, loving. she loves to love and be loved—she is selfless and giving and would share heart with the world if she could. she is ridiculously silly, always finding something to smile about, and nothing would make her happier than to spread that smile. she's spontaneous, passionate, alacritous, and endearingly charming—perhaps a bit theatrical, though she's always genuine. in general, she's lovely to be around.
adriana is very in touch with her identity—aside from her insecurities about her relationships, her emotions, flaws, and strengths are all very clear to her, and she has a distinct, refreshing clarity of mind. despite that clarity, adriana had a tendency to brush things to the back of her mind—important things. regrets, bad decisions, arguments, stress, pain—they all lurk under her skin, consciously realized but implicitly deemed tedious and unnecessary. this is a bit like living in ignorance—she leaves problems and arguments unresolved, choosing to forget about them instead.
adriana won't tolerate injustice and believes endlessly in second chances. she tends to see the best in others—and in the world. motherly and supportive, she nurtures that goodness, encouraging people to become the best versions of themselves. she is an idealist, with a firm belief in good and the constant ability to hope. that hope has often hurt her, unfortunately. being let down after hoping so completely that a dream could come true is heartbreaking. adriana sometimes thinks that life will slowly whittle away at her until she has no ounce of her idealism left, until she's painfully bitter, never allowing herself to snatch at hope after being hurt again and again and again. she hopes, though—note the irony—that this won't be true.
❁ backstory ❁
adriana and her parents were immigrants to america, having moved to new york city from portugal when adriana was only two. the family lived through all sorts of hardships before they managed to settle down and open their own portuguese restaurant, which soon became a hit for its authenticity and hole-in-the-wall vibe. adriana's parents raised to believe that, if she put in the right effort, she could do anything—that the american dream was attainable.
and so adriana worked, and worked, and worked, until her ass was quite figuratively worked off. and finally, sophomore year of high school, she was able to get into the elusive drearwoods academy.
yale is in her future—political science with a minor in art. to get there, adriana is going to keep working.
❁ why she's in drearwoods ❁
because she's a genius—and, on top of that, has put her blood and sweat into it.
i have a dream
