|Jolly Holiday In A One Horse Open Sleigh|

A/N: Just saying this now, sorry if this chapter is like nostalgic, I was watching Jack Frost and getting inspired 🤭 And don't worry, your festive holiday chapters are coming soon!

I Dedicate This Chapter to Two Veteran Readers, Bri (yes, the Bri in the story whom I inspired off a real person) and Lauren who in total together lost 4 family members this month, 3 of which were Bri's and the one is Lauren's

The next morning I was up 2 hours early to make myself pretty and get my outfit picked out for today. Beanie, grey sweater, black vest, dark jeans, and my Hunter boots.

The weather lady predicted snow around 8:45 this morning so thankfully I decided to wear my Hunter boots.

I decided to curl parts of my hair, cover up some imperfections with my makeup to make myself look flawless.

After getting myself all ready, I put a little red vest on Juno and attached his leash to his collar before I left.

Juno sat in the front seat while I drove to Sid's house.

He must have seen me pulling up in the driveway cause he came out the side door and waved to me with a big smile.

Parking my car, Juno hopped over the console and out my door first, barking and rushing over to Sid, giving him kisses.

"Hey, bud! I didn't know you were coming with us!"

Smirking, I pushed up my sunglasses on the bridge of my nose, "Eh, last-minute decision."

"You look stylish." He smirked before the two of us came together in an embrace.

"Same with yourself, Captain," Smirking, I briefly examined his outfit for our outing, black t-shirt, red flannel, his black puffy coat I picked out for him, dark blue jeans, and scuffed-up old Timberlands with a black beanie. "Cover your ears, your gonna catch a cold," I pulled down his beanie over his ears, "Don't want an ammonia or the flu again." I then adjusted the top piece of fabric on his beanie.

"Thanks." He gave me one of those embarrassing child-like smiles before we parted ways and got into our cars, driving to the Christmas Tree Farm.

Getting to the farm, the snow had just started to come. I rolled up slowly to the little shack near the entrance where a girl had a hand saw ready in one hand and a hatchet in the other.

Rolling down the window, slightly sticking my head out, "Hi, I'm with the car behind me, he'll take the tools."

The girl at the shack let me pass by, in the rearview mirror, I saw Sid stop for the girl and take both the hand saw and the hatchet.

Up ahead, there was a cabin and tractors pulling hay wagons and horses pulling wagons and sleighs all lined in a row.

The two of us managed to park our cars next to each other towards the cabin where the three of us walked arms linked and Juno waddling steadily at my side up towards the line of tractors and sleighs.

"Want a tractor? Or a sleigh?" Sid gestured to the line.

"Hmm, lemme see," I thought, turning my head to look at him, "Sleigh, definitely a sleigh." I nodded my head.

Sid held out his arm, "Well then, after you Miss Reed." Sid teased which made me bow a little and dash towards the sleigh with Juno barking happily.

Sid close behind me, a younger kid approached us, "Where ya heading?"

"Umm," I stuttered, looking to Sid for an answer.

"The Furs please," Sid answered, giving a nod to the kid who hopped in the driving seat of the sleigh while Sid held out his hand.

Placing my hand in his, he helped me up like a gentleman before bending down to pick up Juno and sitting down next to me in the sleigh, Juno between us on our laps as the nice guy took us out into the field of Christmas trees in a one-horse open sleigh with the snow sprinkling down.

"Ok, what type of tree are you looking for Syd?"

"Fraser Fur, I'm trying to stick with a Fraser but if there aren't any good looking ones then a Canan Fur will do too," Turning my head to look at Sid, "Trying to stick with another family tradition." I held out my hand like I was chopping something.

"You've got to be kidding me." Sid laughed.

"What?" I also laughed back, curious as to what was funny.

Sid took two fingers and outlined his lips, stretching them out, "I get a Fraser Fur too."

"Seriously?!"

"Yes! Dead serious! It's a family tradition I have too!"

"This is actually scary but funny at the same time." The two of us laughed before the sleigh stopped towards the back of the field where we got off and made our way through the neat rows of Fraser's.

Sid and I were silent for a good while, trying to concentrate and find a good tree for both of us. I managed to get a couple photos of the farm in the field and the horses nearby.

I stopped at this really tall tree, it was probably a 7 or 8-foot tree, "Hey uh Sid, how tall is your living room ceiling?" I stuttered, getting a shiver down my spine.

"Uhhh," Sid dragged while walking with Juno, holding the leash and the handsaw while I carried the hatchet, "6, 7 feet maybe."

He found his way over to me and stood by my side, gazing up at the tree, "This is a pretty amazing tree," He mumbled before going around the tree, examining it for bald spots, if the tree already opened, stuff like that, "This is actually perfect."

Sid came back to my side before wrapping an arm around my waist, snuggling up against his side with Juno plopped down at our feet, "Thanks, told you I'd find a good one." Smirking at Sid with my arms crossed and the hatchet in my hand.

Shaking his head, getting down on his hands and knees with the saw he started cutting the tree down. Juno saddled up to the tree and sniffed it before rubbing himself against the needles.

Sid had to take his jacket off and give it to me because he was getting so worked up, "Well, I'll have to remember sawing a tree down is a good workout."

I chuckled under my breath, "I'll keep a note of that."

Sid stopped sawing the tree and set the saw down, laughing, "Now I know why you wanted me to come, you just wanted me to cut the trees down."

"What! No!" I giggled, "I would never!" Scoffing, I fixed my beanie on my head.

"Yeah mmhmm," Sid shook his head before standing up, brushing himself off, and clapping his hands together to get all the dirt off them, "How about I force the truth out of you." He wiggled his fingers.

My face dropped, "Oh no! Don't you dare!" I screamed and started taking off in the trees.

"Oh, your gonna get it! And the truth is gonna come out!" I heard Sid chasing after me.

"Don't even dare Sidney Patrick!" I hid behind one of the Christmas trees, hiding from Sid.

"Your pretty bad at hiding," Sid whispered.

Groaning, he was right behind me, "Now, don't do anything I'd regret!" I pointed a finger at him before he threw me over his shoulder before I could say anything else.

"Too late!" Sid started tickling my sides which made me squeal and lightly slap his back.

"St-stop! Please! Ah! Stop it!" I laughed, I was practically screaming and snorting at the same time.

"There will be no mercy! And no surrender!" Sid took me all the way back to the tree with me over his shoulder while tickling me.

Juno managed to find his way back to us but he never was with us, he barked while jumping up slightly, "Wait! Hey! Put me down for a second!" Sid set me back down on my feet, "What's up boy?"

Juno then turned around and ran back into the trees, with the two of us behind him, he was sitting at the foot of another beautiful tree, also probably the same height.

"Hey! Such a good boy!" I waddled over, clapping my hands before he jumped into my arms, "Did you find another tree? Yes, you did!"

"Good boy," Sid squatted slightly to pet Juno and rub his ears. "You guys stay here, I'll go finish chopping down the other tree real quick."

When Sid left to finish cutting the tree, I sent Bri a picture of the tree Juno found. Sid came back a few minutes later dragging the tree behind him with the hand saw in his other hand. Then he started cutting the second tree.

"She's going down!"

"Timber!" I cupped my mouth, yelling as the tree fell to the ground.

"Now to drag these back to the pathway for the tractor to pick us up." Sid went to hand me the hand saw but I picked up the tree by its stump while carrying the hatchet.

Sid looked quite impressed by me picking up the tree stump and dragging the tree by myself, "I told you I had big girl muscles."

"I never said I doubted you, Syd never doubted you, one-bit sweetheart."

I shook my head, rolling my eyes with a playful smirk on my face from his teasing.

We managed to flag down the tractor and the nice man driving, kindly helped us get our trees on the wagon before Sid helped me and Juno on to the wagon where we sat on hay bales.

The next people whom we picked up was a young couple with two younger twin boys, probably 6 or 7 years old.

The two were awestruck, "Dad! Dad! It's him! It's Sidney Crosby!" The one tugged on his father's sleeve.

The other little boy climbed over his father's lap to sit next to Sid, "Can we have a pitcher please?"

"Yes of course." He smiled at the little boy, then his twin brother crawled over to sit with Sid while I ducked behind the trees to avoid being in the picture his parents were taking.

"Hey, do you guys want a group photo together, like all 5 of you guys?" I suggested, gesturing to the twin boy's parents.

"Would you do that?" The father smiled.

"Yes of course!"

"Oh thank you." The mother smiled, hand me her phone before the 5 of them got together in the picture.

When I took the picture, I politely gave the phone back to the mother, "What's your names?" Sid smiled while the twins sat next to Sid.

"I'm Andrew and this is my brother Blake." The one spoke up, pointing to himself and his twin.

"We're going to your hockey camp in the summer!" Blake smiled.

"Oh yeah? That's gonna be lots of fun! You guys like hockey?" Sid then turned to face the twins while I held on to Juno.

"Yeah!" The two smiled.

"What did ya ask Santa for Christmas?"

"Um, um," Andrew stuttered, "I'm asking Santa for skates!"

"And I'm asking for some skates too!"

"That's cool!" Sid smiled.

"I don't mean to be rude but is this your girlfriend, Kathy?" The father asked, gesturing to me.

"Oh no! My name is Sydney! I'm his assistant!" I held my hand out to shake the couple's hands.

"You a Sydney too?"

"Yeah S-Y."

"Boys, say hello to Miss Sydney." The mother nodded at her boys before giving them a soft smile.

"Hello, Miss Sydney." They spoke in unison.

"Aww, hello to you guys too."

Sadly, we arrived back at the cabin and had to depart. Sid had picked out 3 rolls of roping for his house and a fresh new wreath.

While waiting for our trees and other items to get paid for, I had taken a picture of the two trees and me and Sid were debating who got what tree.

"No! I want you to have the best tree because you have lots more people come to your house."

"Sydney, please, I want you to have the best tree. I insist."

I had my arms crossed while I also thumped my foot on the light layer of snow, "No," I dragged, "Sidney Patrick, you are taking this tree." I pointed to the best tree.

"No, you are!"

"Ok fine! The hard way it is!" I stomped my foot on the ground, unlocking my phone. "I already asked Bri which one does she think the best one is and she said the one on the right, so you're taking it." I flipped my phone around, showing him our text messages.

Sid raised his hands in surrender, "Ok touché." He nodded his head.

We finally got to pay for our items inside the little cabin where the line of sleighs and tractors were waiting to take people out into the fields. Sid insisted that he'd pay for everything even though it was my idea for him to come anyway.

I was looking around the shop while standing up at the counter with Sid to pay when a wall full of Christmas cards caught my eye.

Wandering over to the wall, I stood a good distance away from the wall to take in all the cards. Bunches of happy families and their children, older couples, young couples, engaged couples to be wed, all beautiful pictures on the Christmas cards.

A hand was then placed gently on my shoulder, making me turn, "Hey, what's wrong?" Sid then took his hand off his shoulder, continuing to fold the recipe he received. Juno plopped down at my feet.

"We should do one." I smiled, turning back and forth from the wall to look at Sid.

"One what?" He laughed.

"A card! A picture!" I felt like a little kid, pointing to the wall, begging like one too, Juno sitting at my feet giving Sid the big puppy eyes trick.

"That's actually a great idea." He smiled, looking at the cards hanging up.

We eventually found the photographer, asked her to take some pictures for us, and she led us back to the horse drawn sleigh, sitting across from us.

The nice photographer asked us our names, what we were thinking about doing, and where we thought our pictures could be.

The two of us had decided to stay in the Christmas trees for our photo where Sid made me jump on his back and Juno up on his hind legs with his tongue sticking out. Then the two of us crouched down with Juno in the middle on his belly. In our last picture, we had to ask a nearby family to borrow their tree for our photo where Sid took the tip of the tree while I took the stump, holding it horizontally like we were carrying it.

Back at the cabin, in her office, we had requested them to be printed out like Polaroid photos and we had a dozen of each three photos before paying her and getting our items brought to our cars.

I had let Juno inside the car first before opening my trunk of my Compass.

Sid looked at me like I was crazy, "Scratches your car." I explained, he was probably going to have it put up top on his roof.

"Ah, smart." He pointed at me, also opening his trunk, waiting for his tree to be put inside his car.

Once the guys loaded my tree into my car, "Thanks, guys." I smiled before they moved on to put the tree, roping, and wreath into Sid's Rover.

I stood next to Sid, "Um so what do you get at McDonald's, like when you go?"

"Lemme guess," He smirked while watching the guys load everything in his car before rolling his head to look at me, "Another family tradition?"

Chuckling, I looked down at my feet, "Yeah, 'nother family tradition."

"Well," He thought, "Big Mac, of course, uh, large fry and Coke with an apple pie."

When he said his order, I laughed, thinking of my dad, "That's literally my dad's usual order except for a Diet Coke."

Sid laughed before we had to part ways and go to our cars, "Well your dad is on my nice list." Sid had to shout over his car before he opened the door of his car and stood on the footboards, peaking over, I also did the same.

I lead the way out of the tree farm, back home. While stopped at a red light, I had managed to text Sid and tell him that I would be heading to my house to drop off and set up my tree, so he could go home and set up his. Sid being Sid, he refused and decided to come with me and help take the tree into the apartment and get it set up.

Getting back to my apartment was easy going, especially since there was snow on the ground and I thought it was going to be a nightmare. The real nightmare was getting the tree up the flight of stairs and into the apartment.

Needles were dropping everywhere, the stump right in my face, Sid accidentally bumping into the wall a few inches beside the door with his back before we got it inside, placing it in the corner of the living room, next to our TV with the stand and the tree skirt out and wrapped kindly around the tree, giving the tree a welcome home hug with a blanket of a sort. Sid had also filled up a tall glass, pouring some water into the live tree before we left again, only without Juno, going to get McDonald's, then to Sid's house.

Sid managed to get in front of me in the driver's through and after I ordered, the lady at the payment window said the car in front of me already paid for me even though I was supposed to be paying for him, which annoyed me slightly.

When arriving at his house, Sid had pulled his car into its designated spot in the garage. He directed me to pull into the spot next to him in the three-car garage.

The two of us went inside the house, Sid going in first with the tip and me last with the trunk, walking into the side door, through the kitchen, and to the living room to put the tree on the wall next to the TV in the center.

"K, hang on to the tree for one second!" Sid let me stand up so I could hold the tree, "Don't move! I'll be right back!" He dashed off in the house, assuming he was getting the tree stand, skirt, ornaments, and lights.

He came back with two plastic tubs stacked on top of each other in his arms with the tree stand on top of the last tub, setting them down gently near the couch.

Sid practically dropped to his knees with the stand, "Ok, pick the tree up and I'll slide it under."

"Ok." I then gave the tree a bear hug, without trying to damage the tree and make it lose needles, picking it up. I heard plastic scraping on wood, Sid had put the stand under.

He tapped the top of my shoe, "K, set it down slow."

Doing as told, the stand slid into the hole at the bottom of the tree before it finally stood on its own. I also let go, stepping back from the tree while Sid stood up.

Scratching the bridge of my nose, "Do ya think it needs to be turned?" I then cocked my head to one side, examining the tree.

"Nah, it looks perfect right there." He smiled.

I went outside again to get the wreath and the McDonalds from our cars, taking two trips to the house through the side door.

While holding the food in the air, I sat down on the bench to take my boots off, making my way to the kitchen to set the McDonalds down, with the wreath taking up most of the space, I just sat everything inside the wreath.

Before coming back to the living room where Sid also had his shoes taken off, sitting at the side door with my boots, he was rooting around through the tubs to try and find something.

"Hey, where's the door hangar? For the wreath?"

He looked up briefly at me, "I put it on the table by the front door." Then looking down, still rooting around through the same bin.

I went to the front door, taking the wreath with me, picking up the door hangar from the table near the front door.

Opening the front door, I put the door hangar in the middle before gently placing it on the hook, letting go, stepping back to see if it's centered and straight, "Perfect!" I clapped my hands together, going back inside, shutting the door behind me.

When I walked into the living room, Sid was sitting on the couch with a giant ball of tangled lights which made me laugh a bit, shaking my head.

He looked up, "I dunno how they get like this! I roll them up neatly when I put them away!" He gestured to the ball in his hands.

I plopped down next to him, "Gimme." I snatched the ball from his hands and untied the tangled wires in a matter of a few seconds.

His eyes practically popped out of his sockets, "I'm just not gonna ask, not gonna ask." He stuck his hands in the air before getting up again to get the other strands of lights, giving them to me to untangle. Sid took the untangled strands, plugged them in, testing the lights to see if they work.

The lights were all tested and untangled, Sid had a strand ready to wrap the tree while I took a big red ribbon wrapping the tree.

Every time I had to go and wrap the back, Sid had to take the other end for me and bring it around before the two of us took strands of lights, wrapping the tree.

I had made a joke out of Sid by tangling him up in the lights, holding down his arms to his body.

"Ahh, I'm stuck." He laughed.

"It's about time I had you wrapped around my finger instead of the other way around!" I teased before taking an extra ribbon from the box, throwing it over his head, and wrapping it around his torso, before I pulled him closer to me so I could tie a big bow.

"Oh yeah?"

"Oh yes," I dragged, tightening the loopholes, finishing his bow. Then I plugged in the lights, "You look like a Christmas tree, just without a star, I laughed, looked in the box, finding the tree topper, "Ah-ha! Found it!" Smirking, I gently placed the star on top of his head, Sid balancing it. "Now you're the perfect tree!"

I then pulled out my phone, taking a picture, sending it to Bri for a good laugh, "I swear to God, don't show anyone that picture." Sid spoke, keeping a still body while talking, being mindful of the fragile star on top of his head.

"Oh, I just sent it to Bri," I smirked once again, tapping on my phone before showing him his picture in our text messages.

"Ok, ok, well let's just hope Bri doesn't tell anyone or I'm gonna have to tickle you to death again."

"Let's hope."

I walked over, "Get the star off me and undo all this stuff so we can go eat our McDonalds, I can practically taste that Big Mac." Sid pleaded while I untied his bow, letting it fall to the floor, taking the star off, and gently setting it on the couch, unwrapping Sid from the Christmas lights so we could go eat in the kitchen together.

We ate our food standing and leaning against the countertop across from each other. Occasionally I would steal a french fry or two when he wasn't looking. When our food was gone we just stood and talked some more, drinking our beverages in the plastic cups.

We found ourselves decorating the tree and the sun and the dark sky were melting together, meeting in the middle, mixing all kinds of colors like a painting in the sky.

The Christmas tree lights were plugged in and a few ornaments were already on the tree but our decorating time was slightly silent.

"What's Cole Harbor like at Christmas?" My voice broke the silence between us, Sid just finished hanging up a snowflake ornament before he turned to me, smiling, then turning around and taking another ornament from the plastic tub.

Sid looked up at me from the ornament he held in his hand, "It's really nice," He then looked back down at it again.

I then placed the little penguin ornament in a spot on the tree before slowly walking over to Sid.

The small ornament was actually a picture frame, very well decorated with a picture of a younger Sid and his family.

He then tilted the ornament towards me, "That's your mum," I pointed to the shorter lady on the right with short light brunette hair and a white cap on, "Trina," then I moved my finger across the picture, "Troy, your father," then my finger found its way to the youngest girl in the picture, dressed in all black except for her goalie helmet which rested on top of her head.

"Taylor." We spoke in unison.

"Taylor, yeah." Sid smiled, giving me the ornament, gently put the ribbon hook through my finger.

"It's a beautiful ornament." I found a spot on the tree for the family picture.

"It is," Sid then picked out another ornament from the tub, "You've always reminded me of my mother, kind, caring, and crafty."

"Your mother made this?" Turning to Sid, he showed me another ornament, the frame decorated like a Polaroid picture.

"Yeah, she made quite a few for me over the years," he tilted the ornament towards me, "Including this one."

It was Sid out on a frozen body of water, full gear, turned around so his number was exposed, his stick out to his left, and no helmet, "This is Rimouski isn't it?"

"Mmhm."

"I could tell by the colors of your gear." I chuckled, then read the bottom of the Polaroid frame read '02 Rimouski' wrote out in a nice style of calligraphy in sharpie marker.

"I've always wanted to go camping up there in Rimouski," Sid gave me the ornament to put up on the tree, "Buy or rent a pull-behind camper. See the northern lights possibly."

"You can see them at Rimouski," Sid emphasized, putting up a hockey puck ornament with his birthdate on it, "And they're nothing like you've ever seen before, they're just so so beautiful." His voice started getting quieter before silence fell upon us.

I had picked another spot for the ornament before turning back to look at Sid, he was staring at me. I looked towards the floor at my feet, biting my lip, then clearing my throat, "Um, do you think we have enough?"

Sid looked at the tree, "Yeah I think so," He nodded, then held up his index finger, "But," He turned around and picked up the star, holding it out to me, "Would you like to do the honors?"

My face dropped, "Oh no! I can't do that!" I rambled.

"Please, I insist." He smiled, nodding his head, once again holding out the ornament.

"Ok," I surrendered, blushing, "You'll have to give me a boost tho."

Sid set down the ornament on the couch again before he crouched down, letting me sit on his shoulder. He slowly stood up, raising me higher about the ground with his one hand on my thigh, making sure I wouldn't fall.

Sid gave me the star and got close to the tree, "Now," I dragged, then gently placed the star at the top of the tree, "The tree is complete."

Clapping my hands together, Sid crouched back down, helping me off his shoulder before we stood side by side, gazing up at the tree. He snaked his arm around my waist while I did the same, leaning my head into him.

While staring at the tree, I looked out the window and saw that there was a fluffy blanket of snow on the ground and more still coming down.

"Oh my gosh! Look!" I bolted for the window, practically pressing my face against the glass.

"Snow." We spoke in unison again.

"Are you thinking what I'm thinking?" I raised my brow at Sid with a grin painting my face.

"Snowball fight?"

"No, but that's a good idea that I'll take you up on it in the future, but how about we build a snowman."

"Yes! Great idea! I'll go get some clothes!" Sid bolted for his stairs.

"Wait! Do you have carrots?" I yelled into the house, running to the kitchen.

"Yeah! In the fridge!" He said while going up the stairs to his room.

I opened the fridge and found the carrots in one of the drawers before rushing to the side door to get my boots and winter apparel on. Sid came down while I was getting my boots on with an old beanie, navy blue scarf, old mittens, and a hockey stick.

The two of us rushed outside in the dark winter wonderland, heading for the front yard where we flopped all our belongings in the snow near the side of the driveway.

"There's already gotta be a few inches out here!" I exclaimed while making a snowball with my hands.

"I know! It's amazing, the weather." Sid was on his hands and knees in the snow already rolling out one of the balls.

After a while, we had our three balls made up. Sid had to help me get the head on the 2nd ball, "Oh come on Syd! Not a fat head!" He teased, helping me adjust his head.

I shoved Sid playfully, "What! He doesn't have a fat head! He has a big cranium for his big brain!"

"Mhmm, sure he does," He nodded. "I'm sorry about her bud, she's just not a pro snowman maker." He whispered to the snowman.

"I can hear you still dooface!" I laughed.

"Oh! Really! I didn't know if you could!" Sid then put the beanie on top of his head, then I proceeded to stick the carrot in the middle of his face.

He trotted off into the snow, looking for some sticks and rocks, "I'll go find some stick for his arms and rocks for his face and buttons!"

"Don't forget something tiny for his eyebrows!" I reminded Sid while I had thrown the scarf over the snowman, wrapping him up.

He came back with two good-sized branches for the snowman's arms, some twigs for his eyebrows, and rocks for his face and buttons.

Sid gave me the twigs for the eyebrows, "Let's get some eyes on ya bud." He pushed two of the rocks into the snow-head, then I pushed in the twigs for the eyebrows.

He then gave me some rocks to do the smile while he was bent over, putting in the buttons.

We stood back from our snowman, almost finished, "Aww he's handsome."

"And I'm not?"

"No!" I spat, obviously teasing, "The snowman is WAY cuter!" I then waltzed over to the snowman, planting a kiss on his cold cheek made of snow.

"Wow, thanks, Syd." He chuckled, picking up the branches, sticking them in his sides.

I put the mittens on the ends of the branches and stuck the butt of the hockey stick in the snow so the blade was sticking up like he was holding it.

Again, we stepped back, viewing our masterpiece, "That's one hell of a snowman." I smiled.

"Of course it is! I'm an expert at building snowman's of course." Sid spoke in a French accent.

I quickly bent over and playfully slapped snow in his face, "Dooface!" He then pretended to be shot in the face, tipping over and playing dead.

He flopped in the snow and started making snow angels. I also flopped over, giggling and also making a snow angel next to him while the night sky sprinkled snow from the heavens under a starry sky with a waxing moon.
