background :: hugh had a close relationship with his parents and his sister. he would always bicker with erin, but if you didn't argue with your siblings at least once in a while, then are you really siblings? when hugh was twenty and erin was thirteen, their parents went on a holiday to italy to celebrate their 20th anniversary. but on their way to their hotel, they died in a car crash. hugh was heartbroken when he heard about his parents' death but he needed to stay strong for erin. hugh had a huge role in planning his parents' memorials and funeral, it was difficult and honestly, he knows he should've let his grown relatives do most of it but he felt like he needed to be part of it. to do one last thing for his parents. say one last goodbye. hugh and erin then moved in with their grandparents. two years later, when the disease started to spread, hugh wasn't too worried at first. he thought it would eventually pass. it wasn't until he saw on the news how those who got ill were turning into zombies that he realises this was something to take very seriously. hugh's grandparents caught it pretty quickly. hugh knew his next move would be incredibly cruel, but he needed to keep erin safe no matter what. so he contacted his friends, telling them to meet at their holiday cabin in the woods then he immediately left the house with erin. it was fine for a while until the group had a close run in with some of the turned when they had gone back into the town to get more supplies. with all the adrenaline, no one, not even erin herself, had noticed she'd gotten bitten until they got back to the cabin. hugh stayed with erin until she was minutes away from fully turning. he couldn't kill her, he just couldn't, he'd never be able to live with himself if he killed his sister even if it was a mercy kill. hugh was willing to stay with erin the entire time and run the risk of getting bitten and turning himself if it meant staying with his little sister. but his friends just couldn't let that happen and managed to pull him away from erin after a long struggle.
