IN THE NAME OF LOVE 3x22

"Hello, I'm Dr. Montgomery," Addison smiles at her patient and the patients father, taking the chart from another doctor.

"Hi, I'm George Walters. This is my daughter, Kim,"

"Hi, Kim. The E.R. doctor says you're having a lot of back pain?" Addison asks, directing the question towards Kim.

"It started a few days ago," Kim's father answered for her.

"It says here you're at thirty weeks," Addison sits the chart on the table next to the hospital bed. "You haven't had any prenatal care?"

"We live on a farm. It's difficult for us to get into the city," George answers for Kim again.

"Okay," Addison replies, "Uh, well, let's take a look here," Addison lifts Kim's shirt and squirts the gel onto her stomach.

She runs the wand across Kim's stomach, "Is my baby okay?"

"She's the appropriate size for her dates," Addison says, still looking at the ultrasound machine.

"She?" Kim asks. "It's a girl?"

"Oh, yโ€” yes. I'm sorry. Iโ€”" Addison laughs awkwardly.

"I'd appreciate it if you could make this as quick as possible," George pauses, "I'd like to take my daughter home."

Addison looks at George and back to Kim's stomach, "Okay."

"Weird how?" Athena asks her. Addison decided she needed a second opinion to see if what she witnessed was weird, or if it was just her.

"I don't know," Addison rubs her hands together impatiently, "Just weird. You'll see."

They turn the corner, into the E.R, seeing Kim and George, "Hi, I'm Dr. Knotts. I'm a cardiothoracic specialist." Athena speaks first, "I'd like to speak with you about your scans. Uh, if you'd like, your father can wait in the lounge." Athena said, testing what Addison told her.

"I'm fine here," George speaks as Kim looks at him.

"Okay," Athena looks over at Addison, sharing the same thought. "Well..uh, what you have is an aortic aneurysm. It's an abnormal widening of the large artery in your abdomen. We're going to need to do surgery."

"We're hoping to avoid it until the baby's further along, but we will need to keep you here under observation," Addison says, maintaining eye contact with Kim.

"How long?" George asks, getting a little frustrated.

"I don't know. We've ordered some repeat ultrasounds. And we're going to need to review your family medical historyโ€”" Athena looks to George, "mother, father, siblings."

"My mother is dead," Kim informs Athena.

"Why do you need all that?" George asks, his stare hard.

"It's standard," Athena assured them, "A medical history helps point us in the right direction when we're trying to evaluate a problem. You and I can talk further while your daughters undergoing the test."

"No," George stands up, his hand on Kim's shoulder, "I'm going with her."

Athena nods, looking over at Addison. Addison clears her throat, her lips forming a thin line.

Later on in the day, Addison is sitting in her office, going through papers for her other patients when Athena walks in, "Hey. So, based on Kim's repeat scan, I recommend surgery now." Athena says, handing the scan off to Addison.

Addison sits up straight, "Oh, but the fetus is only thirty weeks. It's too risky."

"Yeah, well, blowing the aneurysm could be riskier," Athena said, getting pissy. She hasn't been in the best mood the past few days. She hasn't talked to Amelia in a few days, and it wasn't making her the happiest.

"Kim tested positive for the gene associated with fibrillin disease?" Addison reads off the paper, her eyebrows raising once she looks up at Athena.

"Yeah, it explains the aneurysm," Athena leans against another table against the wall, her arms crossed over her chest.

"But it's an autosomal dominant disease. I mean, it's inherited from the father. Is she adopted?" Addison asks, her eyebrows furrowed.

"Well, George never mentioned it in his family history. He doesn't have the disease," Athena shrugs.

"He's not her father," Addison sits up fully straight. "He can't be."

"Well, then who is he?"

About half way through the day, Athena has already had enough of everyone in the hospital. Between avoiding Amelia and Violet asking if she needs any help. It was all too much. Just because she looked a little tired.

Although, Addison saved her from a very awkward conversation with Violet about what's been bothering her lately.

"Do you have the test results?" George asks as soon as the two sisters open the door. "Can we go home now?"

"Actually, the results were inconclusive." Athena lies. "We're gonna need her for one more test."

Athena helps Kim out of the hospital bed as Kim looks back at her father. George stands up, "You can stay here."

"Why? I wanna be with her," George says.

Kim breathes heavily as she sits into the wheelchair.

Something wasn't right.

"We need her for radiology, some X-Rays. You're not allowed in the room," Athena says, staying as calm as possible. "It's all right. She'll be right back."

"I'll be waiting for you here, Kim," George says.

"Appreciate it," Athena narrows her eyes, taking the IV bag from the nurse to put it on the hanger.

Addison holds the door open for Athena, as she pushes Kim in the wheelchair. They start walking down the hallway, but take a turnโ€”in the wrong direction.

"I thought we were going to radiology," Kim looks up at Addison.

"Uh, we are. I just wanted you to consult with one more doctor, Kim, before we do your test," Addison opens the door to Sheldon's office.

"Hi, Kim. I'm Dr. Wallace,"

Sheldon sits down across from Kim, ready to start his questioning.

Kim looks out the door, trying to be subtle, but Sheldon sees it.

"So you don't remember your mother at all?" Sheldon asks, one leg crossed over the other.

"No," Kim denies, looking at the door.

"Well, how old were you when she died?"

"I'm not sure," She says, sparking confusion inside of Sheldon.

Kim glances at the door for the millionth time.

"You keep looking at the door. Are you afraid your fathers gonna come in?" Sheldon tilts his head, "Or hoping he'll come in?" Kim looks out the door again in response. "Do you have plans for your future? Do you want to go to college or.."

"My dad doesn't think I need it," Kim replies, looking back at Sheldon, then to the ground.

"Well, the two of you, you're very close," Sheldon says, trying to get answers out of Kim.

"We have a special relationship," Kim says, slightly smiling, looking out the door.

"How so?" He asks, nodding a little.

"When's my dad gonna be back?"

"Soon," Sheldon pauses, "Kim, the abnormality you have, It's a condition you inherit from a fatherโ€”only from a fatherโ€”and George doesn't have it."

"My dad says doctors don't know what they're talking about half the time," Kim says, speaking lowly.

"Well, your father..he seems to know everything,"

"Of course he does," Kim says, looking at Sheldon suspiciously. "He's my dad."

Sheldon finishes his questioning and walks outside of the room. He pushed her back into her room and a nurse helped her back into bed.

He meets Athena and Addison outside of the hospital room.

"Her answers felt rehearsed, you know, and planned. And she's been extremely isolated. She doesn't watch TV or use the internet. She can't even remember the last time she left the farm. I think we should call the police," Sheldon shakes his head.

"The police?" Athena asks.

"I'm not one-hundred percent sure, but I think we may be witnessing a kidnapped girl and her abductor," Sheldon looks away from Athena and to Addison.

"What?" Addison asks quietly as George walks up to them.

"We're leaving," He stares at Addison, walking past them, right into the room.

"Kim get out of bed, get your stuff. We're going home," He tells Kim.

"No, George. You can't leave," Addison told him.

"No, George. Whoa," Athena said, blocking him from getting out the room.

"This is my family, and we are leaving," George told her, getting up in her face.

"No," Athena said, making George get mad.

"All right, no, George," Athena says, as he tries to push her. Sheldon steps in and backs him up against a wall as Athena helps Addison keep Kim stay put.

"What are you doing?!" Kim asks, trying to get off the bed. "Let him go!"

Athena backs up and grabs the phone on the table across from the bed.

"Get back into bed, Kim. Kim," Addison pushes her gently back into the bed.

"Kim!" George yells.

"Yes, I need security. Three-zero-one east," Athena nods.

"You're hurting my father," Kim cries.

"I love you," George cries back.

"Please," Kim tried to get Addison's grip off of her, "Your going to hurt him!"

"You have to get back into bed," Addison told her.
"Sheldon, Sheldon, help me." Addison said, not making a smart choice. "She's unconscious."

"Okay," Sheldon says.

George makes a run for it.

"Sheldon, let me," Athena steps in.

"She's bottoming out," Addison says, checking her pulse.

"Call the O.R.," Athena tells Sheldon urgently. "We got a Triple-A that's bleeding out."

After the surgery, Athena came in to visit Kim before she left for the night.

"I used to watch cartoons," Kim mutters, watching the TV. "I'd get up early Saturday mornings and sneak into the living room. I kept the volume low so I wouldn't wake anyone up. It was the only day my mom and dad got to sleep in." Kim pauses, "I forgot about cartoons."

"Well..in time, I'm sure there'll be lots of things that you'll remember," Athena tilts her head towards the ground.

"He loves me, you know?" Kim says, looking towards Athena.

"But sometimes people confuse other things for love. Like..not wanting to be lonely or..afraid or hurt," Athena says, referring to her love life. How things went with Amelia.

"We're having a baby together," Kim says, looking straight ahead.

"I know. And you're going to love that baby. But not with George. Because you don't want your daughter to go through what you went through. Because you don't want him to do to your daughter what he did to you. Because that's not love," Athena shakes her head, looking at Kim.

Athena steps out of the room and sees Sheldon coming down the hallway with who looks like Kim's mother.

They watch as her mother and Kim reunite.

"You think she'll ever get over something like that?" Sam asks. Joining Athena and Addison across the hallway.

"How could she?" Athena asks.

"I mean, right or wrong, she just lost the only person she loves," Addison shrugs as her phone starts to ring, "Hey, Dell. Whatโ€” hold on. She wants me to deliver.. oh, okay. Howโ€” how far apart are her contractions?" Addison smiles, looking to Sam.

"Is thatโ€” is that Mโ€”" Sam nods, inhaling sharply.

Athena smiles at Sam as he freaks out. "Are you ready for this?"

"Uh, yeah, tโ€” tell her that we will meet her at the E.R. and, um, and tโ€” tell her that we love her, Dell," Addison chuckles, "Okay. Yeah. Drive safely. Bye."

Addison smiles and Athena smiles and Sam smiles and it's a happy moment. But it won't be for long.

"So it's, uh, it's happening," Sam laughs, pulling Athena in for a hug and then Athena. "This is happening. Oh."

"Uh, I have to go deliver your grandchild," Addison keeps smiling.

"Yes. Yes, you do," Sam and Addison hurry outside.

Athena walks off towards the elevator. She slides in at the last second, not seeing Amelia in there until the doors close.

"Amelia," Athena says, surprised.

"Athena," Amelia says, taking a step towards Athena.
