𝐂𝐇𝐀𝐏𝐓𝐄𝐑 𝐅𝐈𝐕𝐄

"𝐔𝐆𝐇, 𝐂𝐎𝐌𝐄 𝐎𝐍. 𝐃𝐎𝐍'𝐓 die on me." Liz repeated as she tries to kick start her bike for the fifth time, only for it to do nothing, resulting in the blonde swinging her leg back over, grunting in frustration. "You have got to be kidding me."

It was finally the end of the school day, and of course, another problem in Liz Chamber's life occurs and she doesn't have the slightest clue on how to even fix it. Looking around the parking lot, she was hoping to find Angela or even Bella really, thinking one of them could give her a ride. She really didn't want to walk, more like she couldn't because of her knee, but she also doesn't want to put either of those girls out. Sure, Bella has already agreed to practically be her chauffeur to the doctors the first Wednesday of every month, but she is not trying to be one of those people who is always asking for favors because the least Liz wants is for Bella to think that she is using her when that is the complete opposite of what she is doing.

Scanning the parking lot, she notices the group of siblings walking towards their vehicles, her brows arched in surprise when she notices a familiar tall looking male with bronze hair and dark expression. She had to squint her eyes to make sure she was seeing clearly, but it was definitely him. Edward Cullen. When the hell did he get back? Thinking back to lunch earlier and how all the Cullen's/Hale's were staring at her... she is almost positive that Edward was not among them.

As if he sensed her staring, Edward glances over at the blonde on the far part of the parking lot, both staring intensely at one another before his eyes turned back to Jasper, muttering something to him before the Hale boy also turn, a smirk forming on his lips when they locked eyes with her light blue ones. Rolling her eyes when thinking about the conversation they just had not even twenty minutes ago in class, Liz turns back, ready to pull her phone out to call Danny. She really didn't want to bother him at work, but she doesn't think she has much of an choice.

"Hey, Chambers." Liz looked up to the sudden voice, only to see Tyler standing next to her, looking at her curiously. "You alright?"

"Uh— yeah, I'm fine. My bike, though? Not so much." The dark skinned boy nodded in understanding.

     "Do you need a ride?"

Liz wanted to jump at the offer, mostly because she was already shivering from the cold. Normally she was used to it but after spending two months in California, it was hard adjusting back to Forks' weather. But instead, she thought it would be best to call Danny and pray he got here soon. "No, that's alright, Ty. I'll just call Danny-"

"Didn't you mention that Danny's shop is all the way at the Reservation?" Tyler cuts her off mid sentence, tugging at his backpack strap that was starting to fall off his shoulder. "No, it's freezing out here. I really don't mind."

Seeing as he wasn't gonna give this up, Liz sighed, putting her phone back in her pocket and shrugging her shoulders. "Why not? It's better than dying of hypothermia out here."

"Alright." Tyler grins, waiting for Liz to grab her bag and helmet before moving towards the ancient van his grandfather gave him for his birthday last year. It was the most crappiest piece of machinery on wheels Liz has ever been inside, but it does have one thing that makes it a plus. Central heating.

Thankfully, Tyler had already started his van before hand, meaning it was half-way warmed up by the time the blonde settled in the passenger seat. Tyler takes a minute to say goodbye to a couple friends Liz does not know— personally that is — before he hops in the drivers seat and tries to warm himself up. "Hey, take the back ways, okay?"

     "Sure, why though?"

Liz simply shrugs like it wasn't a big deal. "It's just quicker is all, and I'm exhausted."

Nodding in understanding, Tyler put the car in reverse, slowly trying to make his way out of his parking spot but is having trouble seeing is how all the kids were in the way. "Hey, so listen. Your friends with Bella, right?"

Liz nodded her head. "I believe so, yes."

"Do you think she would want to go to prom with me?" Liz did a double, raising her brows at her friend.

"You like Bella? I thought Mike liked her?" Liz questioned in surprise.

"He does, but we both know he will never get over you. Unless he starts dating Jess again," Tyler explains, for which the blonde nodded at her dark skinned friend. "But those two are toxic together. Can't stay together without fighting."

As much as Liz hated to admit it, he was right. But in a way, she kind of hoped they would get back together because they were both her friends and believe they are perfect for one another, just needed to give each other a chance and get over themselves. Tyler slammed on the breaks suddenly, causing Liz to grip the front of the dashboard, thankfully her seat belt holding her in place. Tyler almost hit a couple kids who weren't looking where they were going, the dark skin boy cursing under his breath. "Idiots."

Once Liz relaxed, Tyler turned back to the girl as they were slowly trying to go around the lot. "So, do you think she would go out with me?"

Liz let out a deep breath, trying to figure out the best way to give it to him easy. "Listen Ty, you know I think your a great guy. But Bella- I don't think she is looking to date anyone."

"But it's just prom, don't you think she would make an exception—"

"Tyler watch out!" Liz immediately screamed just as Tyler was about to hit another vehicle pulling out, causing him to jerk the wheel to the right, Liz's heart picking up as they started skidding on ice. "Stop, stop, stop the car!"

"I can't!" Tyler yelled, the vehicle was now skidding on the ice. Liz could see some kids dodging out of the way, and soon, all Liz could feel was emptiness inside. Suddenly, she was no longer in the parking lot. It didn't even register that they were about to hit Bella who was standing by her red Chevy truck. All that she saw was as they skidded, was her father trying to hit the breaks before they went flying in there air.

A loud piercing screech hit her ears as they landed upside down before another vehicle came crashing into their own, dragging the white Honda across the road a few feet before coming to a stop. Glass shards embedded into her skin as her head bashed against the window. Liz opened her eyes, only to smell gas and iron. Her vision was blurry, feeling her leg being crushed underneath the drivers seat in front of her that caused unbelievable amount of agony.

Suddenly, Liz was brought out of the flash when screams started. Her mind and heart raced rapidly as her side was hit by the indent that appeared on the side of the car. Looking up from her dazed vision, she looks through the window to see Edward Cullen's hand was pressed against the van, and his body shielding Bella from the impact. Everything was happening in slow motion, especially when Edward got up and fled the scene.

She didn't even noticed how Tyler rolled down the window nor she notice him practically leaning over her, mumbling something breathlessly to the brunette girl outside. As if everything was closing in on her, Liz pushed him back into his seat, her throat closing, finding it very difficult to breathe. "I need- I can't-"

"Liz?" Tyler asked, watching as the girl fumbled to get out of the van. Hitting a couple kids with the door who were all gathered to see if Bella was okay, none of them realizing the blonde was also in the vehicle until she pushed herself out of it, falling to the hard ground with a loud thump. "Liz?"

Everything was mumbled, people looking over to see the blonde crawling away on the concrete, her chest raising and falling as she started hyperventilating. She couldn't see, she couldn't speak, she couldn't breathe. No one knew what to do. Bella, who always also involved in the accident, was trying to push people out of the way to get the her new friend who was making a scene.

Everything was closing in on the young girl and her ears were ringing, just like they were before. People started crowding her, trying to calm the girl down who was having a full blown panic attack right before them. Everywhere she looked, she saw fire and a couple of dead bodies. She saw her parents, her father's body leaning out of the front window due to his lack of seat belt and her mother's fearsome eyes as she tried reaching back to unstrap her daughters seat belt. Suddenly she felt herself flying again, looking up at the sky that was now filling with smoke, a glimpse of dark eyes staring deadly into her own haunted her.

Emmett had to grab Jasper who had taken a step forward, his eyes wide and filled with concern, the bigger male pushing him into their own car, needing to get out of there after witnessing what their brother just did by saving the human. Jasper's only regret was not saving Liz, from both the accident itself and from the panic attack she was clearly having on the other side of the lot that was scaring a lot people, including himself. As much as he wanted to be there for her, he let his brother pull him into the vehicle, driving off in such speed the humans were to busy to notice.

BY THE TIME SHE arrived at the hospital, Liz had fully calmed down after the scene in the parking lot. She was still in bit of a shock, not really saying anything to the paramedics or nurses that examined her. From what she learned from them, she doesn't have any injuries or a concussion, just a small bruise on her right arm from where the car was indented during the accident, but they wanted a second opinion from the doctor.

Both Bella and Tyler were in the beds next to her own, all getting checked out by nurses as well until the doctor came to examine them. Tyler wouldn't stop apologizing to both girls. It was bad enough he almost ran over the new girl in town but it hadn't even registered that he had a PTSD victim in his car until the girl stumbled out of the van and started hyperventilating. Looking over at the boy blankly, Liz didn't say anything to him, her expression voided of all emotion before turning to her brunette friend, who gave her a gentle smile. "You okay?" Bella asked softly.

Once again, Liz did not say anything, just nodded in reassurance so that her friend wouldn't worry. All Liz could think about was the mini accident that occurred in the schools parking lot a half an hour ago. The black, cold dead eyes that haunted her vision every time she closed her eyes. Liz knew who it was, she could never forget the maliciously dark eyes that sent a chill down her spine every time she saw them. It's been a while, the last time Liz saw them was two years ago back when the Cullen's first moved to Forks and Jasper Hale was partnered with her in Chemistry class. Never had she seen such hatred in someone's eyes, nor watch as their eyes changed from light golden to an almost pitch black. Liz never really gave it much thought at the time, just brushed it off as some asshole with anger problems or something about the lighting in the room. But now? The flashback to the scene... it couldn't be a coincidence.

Things were not making sense. Liz was scared and confused, thinking back to the accident, things slowly coming back to her that she didn't even know that she had forgotten. Was Jasper there at the Highway 19 accident? Could he be the one Liz's mother was yelling at?

Impossible. The accident was in Seattle, how would he have gotten there? How would he have known? Was it really him there or was Liz totally and completely losing her damn mind? The blonde sort of hoped for the former.

"Bella." Her thoughts were interrupting when a voice spoke up, everyone turning to see Chief Swan rushing to his daughter, looking internally relieved. "You okay?" He asked as he passed Tyler, looking back at the boy with angrily. "You and I are gonna talk. Are you alright?"

"I'm fine, dad. Calm down." Bella tried to reassure her, but he wasn't having it. Before he could say anything else, the door swung open and in walked Ester, wearing her waitress uniform and looking flushed and out of breath, almost like she ran here.

"Liz! Oh my god, Liz!" She squeezed, running over to her younger sister and pulling her into a tight hug. Even in her shocked state, Liz managed to place a hand on her back, holding her close as if she wanted to reassure her older sister that she was okay. "Are you okay? What happened? Are you hurt?"

At first, Liz didn't respond. Her lips not able to form the words she was thinking in her head. She wanted to tell her everything was okay. She wanted to tell her to calm down just like Bella had just done with her father. But she only managed to answer the last questioned. It was one word, it was low and soft, but still fragile and weak. "No."

"I'm sorry, guys, I tried to stop. Liz, you saw, you know I didn't have control." Tyler spoke up, all four heads turning to the Crowley boy who did look sincerely sorry.

Again, Liz didn't say anything, looking down as Ester grabbed her hand. Bella seemed to notice her struggle, deciding it would be best to answer for the both of them. "I know. It's okay."

"No. It's sure as hell not okay." Charlie states, giving his daughter a disbelieving look. "Not only did you almost crush my daughter with your reckless driving, you endangered a PTSD victim whose already dealt with too much trauma in the passed three months to last her a life time."

"Charlie," Ester warned, causing the older man to look at the oldest Chambers sister who he's known her whole life, along with Liz. Reasons why they were comfortable calling him by his name and not Chief Swan, being good friends with their parents would earn them that right. That and Ester was engaged to his best friend's son. Made them practically family in some weird twisted way.

Before Ester could say anything, Bella cut him off. "Dad, it wasn't his fault."

"It's true." All heads turned to the curly haired blonde who finally spoke up, her voice low and scratchy but there. And Bella was starting to think she may have lost it altogether. "A car pulled out in front of us. We were sliding on ice, no one could have control over that. Especially in a crappy old van like Tyler's."

"You still could of been killed. The both of you. Do you understand that?" Charlie questioned, as if she didn't understand the reality of the situation.

The shock and fear seem to shift to anger, something it did occasionally to avoid the other emotions she felt inside her. The brunette girl seemed to noticed her friends heated glare, deciding to answer her father for her. "Yes, but we weren't so..."

"Besides, it's not my first time miraculously surviving an accident." She shared a look with Bella who seemed curious to know what she meant by 'miraculously', making her wonder if Liz saw the same thing she did. If she saw Edward save her and stop the van with his bare hand. The blonde gave her a look, knowing what she was thinking and gave her a quick nod, confirming her suspicions.

Chief Swan, however, refused to listen to reason, being just as stubborn as he was when Liz had gotten arrested for tagging a police car. It was a dare her ex-boyfriend made her do Freshman year, and of course the car she chose was Charlie Swan, because she thought he would be cool about it if she were to get caught. She spent the night in jail to teach her a lesson where she had to pee in front of two other woman who were drug addicts and a guard who liked to watch. She learned her lesson, big time. "You can kiss your license goodbye."

Ester, who remained silent through the whole thing, stroke her curly hair from her sister's face, looking over any injuries. "Are you sure your okay?"

Even though she was hardly functional, Liz seemed to be slowly coming out of her shock state, nodding her head and giving her sister a weak smile. "Yeah, I'm okay."

Just then, the door opened once again and a new voice entered the room, causing the everyone to look over. "I heard the Chief's daughter and our soon-to-be nurse's sister was in." Liz recognized him almost immediately, but for a couple different reasons. Where as Bella was a little confused on who he was, but wasn't for long when she got a look at his features. It wasn't hard to determine who this doctor was if you went to the same high school as his five children. He was a Cullen for sure, more importantly, he was the main Cullen. Jasper and the other's adoptive father and probably the best doctor Forks, Washington has ever had.

"Doctor Cullen." Charlie practically breathed in relief as Ester straightened herself up, blushing as soon as she saw him.

"Hello, Doctor Cullen." Ester said brightly, smiling at him like she was in some kind of dream. It didn't matter how in love with she was with Danny, Ester Chambers will forever have the biggest crush on the hottest doctor who should only exists on a television show. Liz almost believed it was part of the reason why she decided to become a nurse, so she can stay in Forks and work along side this man all day. It made Liz sick watching her fawn over him, but most of the women in town do that. Even her mother did when she first met him when a friend was sick and admitted. As much as Liz hates to admit it, Carlisle Cullen was very good looking, just like the rest of his family. He was also very kind, too, unlike some.

"Charlie. Ester." Doctor Cullen smiles at the two, before grabbing the chart from the nurse examining Bella. "I got this one, Jackie." He looks over her chart, before grabbing the one on the edge of Liz's hospital bed where her nurse had set it after finishing her examination. "Elizabeth. It's wonderful to see you again, wish it was under better circumstances."

For some reason, Liz wasn't at all bothered that he used her full name. "Yeah, we seriously got to stop meeting like this, Doc. It's becoming old."

The blonde doctor chuckled, looking over her chart before pulling out a flash light. "Look here." Used to this routine, Liz watched his finger as he flicked the like in her both eyes to check for any possible concussion. "Everything seems to be okay. No concussion, no severe injuries. Says you had a panic attack at the scene and you were in a bit of a shocked state when you came in, you seem to be coming out of that."

"As well as I can, I guess."

Ester's expression seem to have fell and went back to worrying. "Wait, you had a panic attack?"

"It's nothing to worry about. It was brief and it's over." Ester wanted to say more, but decided now wasn't the best time and kept her mouth shut, still completely worried about her little sister as Doctor Cullen moved onto the Swan girls chart.

"Isabella." Liz internally side when he moved on to her friend, not wanting to get into anything to do with what happened in that parking lot.

     "Bella." The brunette corrected.

"Well, Bella, looks like you took quite a spill. How do you feel?"

     "Good."

"Look here," he instructed, holding up his finger and shining the light in her eyes, the same way he did with Liz only seconds ago. "You both might experience some post-traumatic stress or disorientation, but both your vitals look good. No sign of any head trauma. I think you'll be just fine."

"Great, just when I thought I didn't have enough PTSD or disorientation to last a life time." Liz grumbled irritably, throwing her black knitted jacket back on as she figured they were just about finished.

"I'm so sorry, Liz. I'm really—" Tyler tried to apologize once again but was cut off when Charlie closed the curtains, separating them from Liz's good friend who doesn't think he will be letting this incident go anytime soon.

"You know, it would of been a whole lot worse if Edward wasn't there. He knocked me out of the way." Bella decided to explain, earning a surprising look from both Charlie and Ester.

"Edward?" Both Ester and Charlie repeated at the same time, Charlie looking up at the blonde doctor curiously. "Your boy?"

Instead of agreeing or explaining how she saw it too, Liz decided to watch the doctor's expression, noticing how still he got and extremely uncomfortable he became. It wasn't a normal reaction, than again, this wasn't a normal situation.

"Yeah, it was amazing." Bella continued, Liz continuing to watch the doctor as she went on about his son. "I mean, he got to me so fast. He was nowhere near me."

"Sounds like you were very lucky." Was the only thing he replied with, not having anything else to say to Bella and how impossible it was, yet Liz noticed how he tried to get out of the room as quickly as possible. "Charlie, Ester."

As he walked away, the two girls gave each other a look, one only they understood as they were both thinking the same thing. Something was definitely up, and Doctor Cullen's reaction only gave it away more.

As both girls were finally allowed to leave, Liz quickly went over to Bella before she followed her father out, telling the brunette girl that she was going to call her later and to answer her phone. Bella agreed with a nod, before both of them parted ways, Liz going with Ester to fill out the discharge papers before the two made their way towards one of Danny's many trucks, seeing is how her car was getting its breaks fixed. "What I don't understand is why you were in Tyler's car to begin with?"

"My bike broke down again. Tyler offered me a ride because it was cold out and didn't want me to wait for Danny to come, who I was gonna call."

Ester gave her sister a disbelief look while digging through her purse. "That thing is a piece of junk, Liz. You need to get rid of it."

"No, Ester. Stop, I'm not having this argument with you again."

Both blondes stopped in the parking lock, Ester still digging in her purse. "Fine. But I don't think I can handle another phone call saying my sister was in another car accident. I can't do it again, Liz. You need to be more careful. Stop being so reckless." She says harshly, before cursing under her breath. "I think I left the keys on the hospital bed. I'll be right back."

Liz didn't get a chance to say anything as she went back into the ER to find the keys she always seems to lose. As the blonde leans against the locked truck, she starts to think what Ester just said, how she needs to stop being so reckless. Was it bad to admit that the reason why she refuses to give up her bike was because she didn't want to stop being reckless? Three years she has to be as reckless as she wants, was it so bad that she wanted to live life to the fullest before something big was taken from her?

"You seem to be doing better." A voice startled her out of her thoughts, Liz turning to see none other than Jasper Hale standing a couple feet away. The blonde looked around, wondering where he came from and how he snuck up on her so easily. Should she really be surprised though?

Liz shook her head in disbelief, brushing away the piece of hair that blew in her face because of the cold crisp wind. "Of course your here. You seem to be everywhere lately."

"Do you want me to leave?"

"I don't care what you do." That wasn't true. She did care what he did and that's what bothers her so much. She cares when he stares or doesn't stare at her, she cares if he touches her, she cares that he just showed up out of nowhere. Almost like Edward did in the at school. "Why are you here, Jasper?"

"I wanted to see if you were okay." It wasn't really a question, but it was at the same time. "Last time I saw you, you weren't in the best shape."

"Can you really blame me? I was just in another car accident in the spare time of three months. It was a natural reaction." Gold met blue, the warmth feeling she felt before in class came again and she didn't know what to think of it. It was hard to be angry and mad at someone when they gave her these strange feelings she couldn't explain. "But you know what's not natural? Stopping a van with your bare hands."

Almost like Doctor Cullen's, Jasper's face froze, his expression turning hard as his eyes trailed to the ground. There. That was another reaction, something to confirm that something was up, to confirm she nor Bella wasn't crazy, that they aren't seeing things. Shaking his head, he let out a soft chuckle, trying to act like this was a joke. "What are you talking about?"

"I'm talking about how your brother, someone who has been MIA for days, randomly shows back up at school and manages to prevent what would of been a horrible accident by finding some way to zoom all the way from the other side of the parking lot and push a van out of the way as if it was nothing." Liz had taken a couple steps forward, her shocked like state completely vanished and was replaced with determination. She needs answers, and she is gonna get them, one way or the other. "And before you go and try to tell me I was just seeing things because I was too emotionally unstable and in shock, remember I have a key witness who will back me up."

"No one would believe you," Jasper stated, his eyes were not at all soft anymore but were now glaring holes into her.

"Who says I'm gonna tell anyone? It's none of their business." Jasper almost looked a little relieved by her saying that. "Can I ask you something?"

"You can, doesn't mean I'm gonna answer." He smirked.

Rolling her eyes, Liz tried to take a deep breathe before asking this next question, realizing she was going to purposely be bringing this up for the first time since she return him. "Where you in Seattle the day of the Highway 19 accident?"

This question didn't really surprise him at all, but Jasper grew a little nervous by it for some reason. He knew she already knew the answer to this or thinks she knows the answer, he could see it in her eyes... feel it. It's bothering her, more so than Edward saving Bella earlier. It should. It was why he couldn't lie about that. "Yes."

Her breath was caught in her throat, not believing he was actually telling her the truth. "Yes? Oh god... were you- um... oh my god, this is gonna sound insane, more insane than Edward stopping a van with his hands. Uh, were you the one who pulled me out of the car?"

Jasper never took his eyes away from her as he answered. "I can't answer that, Liz."

"It's a yes or no question." Liz defended.

"It's a lot more complicated than that." Neither Liz nor Jasper expected him to raise his voice, but it was louder and more stern. Trying to find a way out of this, Jasper knew it wasn't safe for her to know the truth. Not now. "You need to stop asking these questions. You need to keep your distance from me."

"I don't understand. You came to me. You're always the one who keeps coming to me," Liz yelled, her voice a bit shaky because of how upset she was. "You just said you were in Seattle? H-How did this get changed so quickly to me needing to keep my distance from you? What if I don't want to keep my distance? What if I don't want to give up on this? I need the truth, Jasper."

Jasper could no longer be nice, only because what Liz didn't know was that his family was watching and listening from inside the hospital. He could barely feel what she was feeling, it was faint and he didn't need his gift to know she was upset and distraught. As much as he hated it, he knew he made a mistake telling her that he was in Seattle that day. He shouldn't have done that. Now he has to upset her even more than she already is, and it pained him doing so. "The truth is, Liz, you were in a car accident and you survived. End of story."

"Seriously?" The young blonde stared in disbelief as he tried walking away, heading towards the hospital just as she saw Ester exiting it. "It's like one step forward, two steps back with you. I can't keep up. I'm going to figure this out. I'm not gonna give up."

"I don't expect you too." Jasper said over his shoulder, giving the oldest Chambers sister a nod before joining his adoptive father and siblings, all who were either glaring or scowling at him.

As Ester approach her little sister, she looks over her shoulder before turning to Liz, squinting her eyes in confusion. "Who was that?"

"A pain in my ass, that's who he is."
