WH 4

He looked at his pack and without a word they all headed home, he stayed seated at the end of the stairs.  Wolves have terrific hearing, so it wasn’t a surprise he could hear everything mother and John were saying. “That’s a really bad cut….I need some alcohol just to be on the safe side.”  Salim heard foot steps heading from the kitchen back towards the room. “Here.” My mothers voice. “You gunna tell that Alpha?” Asked John, as he poured the alcohol on my wound making me scream. Salim whined to himself, his attachment towards me was somehow interfering with his judgment.

Most Alphas fine a mate as soon as possible, reason being it makes them more powerful. It also gives them someone to confide in when the shit is hitting the fan. Salim wasn’t just any Alpha, and he wasn’t just going to pick just any old mate. He had dated on and off trying to find a good mate for both him and his wolf, but nothing stuck. Most were to prissy or were into money and things that just didn’t really mean anything. Being that most if not all female werewolves were spoiled rotten didn’t help the matter.

What he saw today in Edon was very much different, she fought and even did it while severally hurt. Most females will fight, but its not for something like this and if they get hurt they more than likely throw the towel in. John pored more on my leg, and I screamed even louder than the first time. “I need you to hold her down. Put your arm across her chest and your other hand needs to be on her stomach, cause she’s gunna launch forward.” He showed her what he wanted her to do, and when she gave him the okay look he poured the rest of the bottle on my wound and started putting a few stitches in. “AWWWWWWaAWaAWW” I screamed yelped and cried at the same time.  Salim’s wolf cried as he laid down.

After a few minutes I passed out from the pain. About that time a wolf came running back towards the house with a plastic bag in his mouth. Placing it next to Salim’s feet, and then leaving him to change. Shifting into his human form took a little longer then it did for me. Standing just over 5’ 9” with short moose brown hair, and blue tan eyes, Salim was an Alpha no matter what form he took on.

His pack had sent him a pair of black socks, black combat boots, blue carpenter jeans and a royal blue button down silk shirt. Bringing the whole outfit together was a black leather belt. Knocking on the door he waiting for momma to open and let him in. John was sitting in the living room which was open to the kitchen, while mom and Salim sat down at the Kitchen table. She started a pot of hot water and ask him weather he wanted tea or coffee. He replied “Coffee please” she pulled out two cups and then grabbed sugar and coffee creamer.

Waiting for the water to boil she turned her attention to Salim. “I asked you to come here because I am under the assumption that you don’t live very far from us.” His breathing was steady and calm, but she wasn’t in the mood to be toyed with, she wanted short and to the point answers. “Yes ma’am”
The water whistled, taking it off the stove she poured the hot liquid over the coffee flakes and watched as the water turned black. Irish cream and sugar was placed on the table along with spoons.

Salim made his coffee and held it in both hands on the table waiting for her to continue. She sat down across from him and took a sip. “Are you interested in my daughter?” Blunt and to the point, took Salim by surprise for about a second. “In what sense?” He paused taking another sip, “packs are always looking for more females.” she nodding realizing it was a silly question and should have been worded better. “What she ment was are you going to try to mate with her?” John on the other hand didn’t do delicate in anyway shape or form.

Salim glared over at John who was leaning against the back wall before you walked into my room. “No…. Vampire. I am not going to mate with her, she’s not ready. Anyone can see that.” his tone was mild but with a bit of a bite, just because Jonathan didn’t give Salim any reason to kill him didn’t mean he had to be nice.  “Enough with your foolish pride, this isn’t about the two of you.” Mother snapped. “Edon is dear to me, I will kill anyone or thing that tried to hurt her, do I make myself clear?” she glared at the both of them, simultaneously they both nodded. “What did she say her name was to you?” Mother smiled at him, “Wolf, ma’ma” She laughed and left it at that. “The other wolf, the grey one. What’s his deal?” She asked looking at just Salim.

“Cain, vindictive son of a bitch. He’s ruthless and easily angered. Someone your daughter should stay away from.” He clenched his coffee cup, trying not to break it. “Which means he’s not going to stop coming hear till he gets her…is that right?” John’s voice softened with the thought of someone trying to get me. Salim nodded “afraid so” Mother went silent, she was thinking and John watched for face for signs that he could read. After what felt to long she spoke “How would you feel if Cain was removed from his land and put some place less…shall we say in crouching on your land?”

Salim smiled a very small one, “Why that would be the very best Christmas gift of all, he’s nothing but a thief and a  killer. But there’s no way to remove him unless he dies.” Salim also was trying to read her face. “Wrong Alpha.” Mother grinned from ear to ear. Salim’s smile faded, you never tell an alpha there wrong. Unless you have a death wish or your of higher power then him. “I’ll humor you, how so?” He barred his teeth as a warning. “Close your jaw Alpha it doesn’t frighten me, nothing frightens me after being with a Monarch.” She sat straight up when she said the last word, and Salim’s eyes widened ten fold.

If John wasn’t already dead he would of turned white. A large snap and crack came from Salim’s hand. He had broken the coffee cup. “Ohh dear that  was a set.” Mother picked up the pieces and tossed them away. “You…You were with the Monarch?” Salim had a hard time saying the name. “Yes I was, till I left.” she smiled at him as she cleaned the spilled coffee. “But that would mean……” He jumped to his feet and looked down the hall at me. “Sit down and hush, don’t you wake her.” she snapped. Salim sat down but continued to stair at the only part he could see of me, my legs.

“Yes Alpha….Edon is a princess. Her name she gave you…wolf . She wasn’t lying, Edon means wolf in French. It was to hide her from prying eyes.” She sighed taking in a deep breath and trying to pull herself back together. Salim sat quietly trying to figure out where all the pieces go in this jumbled puzzle. “What does this have to do with Cain?” He asked. “If you are her protector, he can not touch her. In return you will have rights to pick and choose who lives on the border lines of your land. The Monarch will even have to sign off on it.” She paused. “There is no way he will say no to someone protecting his…..only offspring” she swallowed that one hard.

“WHAT?” Salim couldn’t help himself that was more then enough to send anyone into a tailspin. “Hush wolf.” She waved for him to be quiet as she looked into my room. He whispered “How is she the only offspring to the monarch?” turning around to face him “because all his other mates either had miss carriages or died while trying to give birth, Edon was a preemie when I had her, she wasn’t suppose to live.” John slid to the floor and sat there for a long time without a word.

“So you want me to take care of her? Is that it?” Salim growled, he was so confused by the whole thing that wolf was getting mad. “I don’t want you to, I need you to. Edon isn’t ready to be trained by the monarch and she certainly isn’t ready for someone like Cain. You have a special something I think will make her a better wolf.” Her eyes looked into his, not in a threatening manor but in the way a mother loves her child. She was begging him to help her. “This isn’t going to end well for me!” Mother smiled and cried a tear, he was going to watch her.

The hours flew buy while I slept and dreamed of things that should never of happened. Around 3 am I woke with a loud noise, my stomach. Worse thing and best thing about being a wolf, you eat a lot and don’t get fat. I turned a light on to see John sitting in the corner. “Dim that please.” His eye snapped shut. “Sorry John” I turned the dial to lower the brightness. “Thanks…you hungry?” He new I was but was making me feel better. “Yes!” My leg was still tender so he helped me to the kitchen and sat me down at the table. Pouring me a bowl of cereal to start with he grabbed some hamburger out of the fridge to start cooking. “Mom sleeping?” a question I already new the answer to. “yup” the meat sizzled on the pan. “you my new watch dog?” I smirked, cause it was so not funny. He tossed the meat around before turning just his head too look at me. “Someone else took that position already” Then turned back around. At this time mother had come out of her room, must have smelled something cooking in her kitchen.

“What’s all this noise I hear?” she smiled sweetly and sat down next to me. “Mother!” I started. “John just told me something funny, he said someone has taken his place as my watch dog?” I waited for an answer but nothing came. My teeth grind together making a nasty sound. “Please stop dear, that’s really not good for your teeth.” Slamming my fists on the table I stood up and screamed. “WHAT DID YOU DO?”  John didn’t say a word and never turned around. Mother rubbed her face and took a deep breath. “I did what I had to do to protect you.” She tried to sound sincere but all I heard was a lie.

She began to explain to me who Salin was and who Cain was. The battle between the two and how I was going to get caught in the middle no matter what. She explained that Salin had agreed to watch over me, but not interfere with my life. That I would be allowed to do as I please and as long as there was no danger I could continue to go to work.  Slumping back into the chair, grabbing fists full’s of my hair.

“Why didn’t you speak to me about this first?” Glaring threw my hair.
“Because a decision needed to be made, and not later.”
“That’s not right mother, and you know it” Dropping my hands.
“Edon, please don’t make this harder on me.”
“HARDER ON YOU!” Growling. John, turned around.
“Edon don’t raise your voice to me.” Frowning her motherly look.
“You just signed me away, to an Alpha. And you want me to keep my voice down?” By now my body was shaking with rage.
    “Easy Edon” John spoke softly.

“John she’s ruined me” Waving my hands into the air, like some kind of nut job.
“She’s just trying to look out for you” Trying to  easy my temper.
“Well she should of waited and asked me first.” Shooting daggers at her.
“This is the best way to keep you safe.” Mother stood up.
“No, this is a way for you not to worry. A way for you to get me out of your hair.” Growling. Storming out of the house, I felt the need to hunt. Ripping the spare set of clothes I had, taking off on all fours.
“EDON!” My mother yelled out the door, holding the screen.
“Let her go love” John sighed.

My feet moved, sadly not as swiftly as I wanted. The cut still stung like a bitch, but that wasn’t going to stop me. Had mother really known what I went threw in the city, she would have had a damn heart attack. Things that go bump in the night, don’t scare me…at least not anymore.

Roaring out in frustration, I made myself fight threw the pain. Shaking my head and quickening my pace.

“DAMN IT” Growling. My tail brushing past trees, as it kept my balance. Each step I took felt freer then the last. Catching the smell of a herd of deer, I headed for them. Breaking through a thick patch of bushes, the deer scattered. Leaping into the air, their tails as high as possible. My target was the over sized buck. Chasing him for a little while, before lunging on his back. Snapping his neck, dropping with him to the ground. Once satisfied it was dead, moving to the stomach. Tearing the hide from flesh. Blood pooled out, as my teeth sank in.
