Chapter 8
JOSH
My chest was warm. I was upset for some reason, but I didn't know why. I kept thinking of Allison. Did I do something wrong? Why were all these things happening to us?
"Joshe?" Her voice was young, I remembered it from somewhere.
"Lucy?"
"Joshe."
"I miss you, why did you run off?"
"I had to go."
"Why?"
"Because if they didn't take me, they were going to take you."
Then I saw a light.
ALLISON
"Josh?" My voice was tired and quiet. I stared at Josh's still form. It was my fault. He was busy talking to me on the phone when he started walking.
The police said that the school bus was just on its daily route, but it's the weekend. It doesn't make sense. I tried to find out more, but the police wouldn't tell me anything. Of course they wouldn't.
"Al, you need some sleep," Zander began picking up his things to leave.
"I can't leave him."
"You need to sleep."
"So do you."
"Well then, I guess it's settled."
"What's settled?"
"We're staying here tonight."
"There's only one spare bed."
"Oh yeah..."
The whole room was silent as I continued my trail of thoughts.
"I can stay in my truck."
"Do you mind?"
"Not at all."
