Chapter Five
~Y/N POV~
"Wow so you'll be due off maternity soon then?"
I asked another woman at the table, Sara who just so happens to be another co work and married to a man called Hoseok. He just so happens to work here too.
She smiles and places her hand to her bump as Byeol sitting next to her reaches out for a little touch.
"Yeah I'm due in two months so another couple weeks and I'm out of here for a while." Sara
"Lucky you. God I need to get pregnant." Byeol
She groaned, removing her hand from Sara's bump. The two of us just laughed at her comment but she seemed surprised by our reactions.
"What? You get a year off for maternity leave and plus if you're late you can use your child as an excuse or better yet a day off!" Byeol
I shook my head, pinching the bridge of my nose. Sara patted her arm and snickered.
"It's not always as simple as that Byeol. You're not that naïve." Sara
"Huh?" Byeol
"Nothing, let's just talk about something else."
Half laughing and taking a sip of my coffee. It's lunch time so this is kind of a little break before getting back to busy work. The day has been hectic for everyone on the floor so it's a miracle we've been blessed with lunch. Even if some aren't so lucky.
"Say Halloween is coming up, what are your plans?" Byeol
"I'm not doing anything. Hoseok doesn't like to risk it being I'm so close to my due date." Sara
Byeol pouted but then turned to look towards me expectedly, tilting her head to the side as she gazed into my soul through her glasses.
"What about you Y/n? Any plans with you and your little dude?" Byeol
"Actually yes. My son loves Halloween so I made sure to put money to the side to get him a few things."
"Save up money?" Byeol
She blinked back at me confusingly but Sara didn't react but that could be because she was pretty much hiding her face behind her coffee mug.
"Hard times."
I mumbled but Byeol just nodded as if she understood but also didn't want to push further and I appreciated that, that neither of them pressed for more answers.
"What are your plans for Halloween?"
Her eyes lit up, clapping her hands once and leaning back in her chair to just stretch out her arms above her head.
"A party at my cousins university. It's going to be lit!" Byeol
"Aren't you a little old to be going to university parties?" Sara
I let out a laugh, watching Byeol gasp, placing her hand to over her chest while Sara squints her eyes to her.
"Sara, I am offended. I'm not that old. Besides, I'm young at heart you know?" Byeol
Wiggling her brows towards Sara only made Sara roll her eyes back but grinning towards Byeol.
"We all know that which is why it's hard to imagine you ever having children and settling down." Sara
"Hey! One day I will, it's finding the right person is what the problem is. My knight and shining armour is coming. I just know it." Byeol
I hummed, turning my thoughts into a day dream. A knight in shining armour?
If only such men exist. In my experience in life they don't. But imagine if I did.
A man to show me what true love is, to care for my son and I and stay loyal to me fully as well as be devoted to being a male role model for Jeonsan. I can only dream.
"Mr Jeon? I'm surprised to see you out your office today." Sara
Hearing his name mentioned brought myself out my day dream to gaze towards the door and see Jungkook indeed stroll into the staff room, glancing towards us girls at the table, but heading towards the coffee machine with his own coffee cup in his hands.
"Just a quick coffee break and back at it." Jungkook
When he gazed towards me as he passed I ducked my head down to turn away from him and look to a picture hanging on the wall beside me. Tapping my fingers against my cup that Jeonsan painted for me I just stayed in my own thoughts. Listening to him pick up small talk with Byeol and Sara. We barely talk and that's the way I like it.
"Y/n?" Jungkook
Closing my eyes I took a deep breath through my nose and yet turned slowly to face him, not meeting his eyes that were focused on me as he leaned against the counter waiting for his coffee.
"Yes?"
"When you're done could you pick up the Hwan account files from Jimin please?" Jungkook
"Mhmm."
I nodded towards him and took another sup of my coffee which so happens to be the last of it. Seeing the way Jungkook picked up his cup finally from the machine made me relieved that he was about to leave but as he came to the door he stopped and turned back around to set eyes on me again.
"Could you also remind Yoongi that we have a joint meeting this afternoon?" Jungkook
"Yeah."
He nods and spins on his heels to leave.
Once out of sight I could finally breath. The tension between us is too much sometimes but that could be because of me, trying to avoid him at all costs.
Luckily neither Byeol or Sara question my behaviour with him and so we pick up more small talk before we all had to go back to work.
I set out on my tasks to Jimin's office, picking up the files Jungkook needs. Then to Yoongi's just to remind him on my way back to my desk that he has a meeting with Jungkook in the meeting room. Which he thanked me for because he didn't remember until I told him, so at least I did that.
Coming back to my desk I dreaded the most. Jungkook's office door was left open but I had to give him these Hwan case files he needs. So I knocked on his door only to get a quick short reply.
"Come in." Jungkook
Stepping inside I left the door open behind me, walking towards his desk and dropping the files in front of his face on top of his desk and turning around to leave. Nothing needed to be said apart from one thing.
"I reminded Yoongi about your meeting so he'll be there."
I told him walking to the door but fate had other plans.
"Y/n, wait." Jungkook
Cursing in my mind I stopped and turned back round to face him from the door. It wad calling my name to leave but I blankly stared back at my so called husband.
"Yes Mr Jeon?"
Jungkook sat on the chair behind his desk, back straight and staring back at me for several seconds returning the blank stare back.
"Do you still hear from your family?" Jungkook
Random question but if I answer I can get away quicker.
"No."
Turning around to leave I got so much as one foot out the door when I heard his voice once again.
"One more question." Jungkook
I sighed, gripping onto the handle just willing myself from slamming it right here and now.
"Okay, what?"
Jungkook just raised is chin, clenching his jaw as well as fists on the front of his desk. If he gripped that pen in his hand any more than he is, he's going to break it.
"When was the last time you spoke to them?" Jungkook
His brow was raised as well as mine to his weird questions about my family. I should get upset just thinking about them but I'm over that now, I moved on from them a long time ago.
"The day my son was born. They told me I was a shame to the family for not satisfying my husband enough that he had to leave me for another woman, is that all?"
For a split second his eyes sprung wide but quickly replaced that expression to his previous resting face.
"That's all." Jungkook
I nodded and left the room, closing the door behind me this time and went back to my desk, sitting on my chair to let out a loud heavy sigh. The sooner I find another job the better.
