RECAP:
**Vhalerie's mother gave Vhalerie a tattoo that took away her beast. Her pink hair is disappearing. She is locked in a room that her mother put her in. The Citizens left Vhalerie at Hero High.**
Everything was slipping between my hands. Roger, my beast, my identity, my hair colour; all emotional and physical. What I built over the years to remain stable was collapsing.
I finally moved my hand away from my face, red eyes instantly meeting the tattoo on my wrist.
The tattoo.
The stupid tattoo.
It had to go.
A sudden heat grew on my chest, spreading down to my belly. I put my hand under the night gown and wrapped my hands around the Medallion Roger and I saved before he disappeared.
I forgot I even had it on in the shower.
I cupped the Medallion and the golden coin shaped necklace glowed. A heartbeat thumped under my hands, whispers flowing from the gem.
"What are you..." I murmured, turning the gem over.

There was a knock at the window. I bolted up, and saw the face of Trent pressed into the glass. He pointed to his pocket, mouthing something.
I touched my thigh, slipping my hand into the pocket of the nightgown. Cold metal touched my palm and I pulled out a key.
My eyes lit up. "Shit me a villain and call me a hero."
I felt the rough lips of a solider press against my ear. "How does it feel to be useless, beastie bear?"
"Beastie bear?" I looked back at the window and laughed, Trent now smiling. The soldier hat was tucked under his arm.
I clutched the key, and twisted around on the bed, ready to head for the door.
"Vhalerie," a voice whispered.
My heart jumped out of my chest and I grabbed the alarm clock on the nightstand.
Now that was a weapon I hadn't used.
Warmth spread from my chest, the medallion glowing around my neck.
I dropped the alarm clock, and cupped the medallion. The heat sunk into my skin, and swam through my veins, strength growing in my bones.
"Vhalerie."
"Roger?" I asked, staring into the medallion.
The heat wrapped around my wrist, and I watched the tattoo melt off my skin.
A rumbling sound rose in the back of my throat, eyes fluttering as the pit in my stomach expanded.
"Vhalerie."
The bed shook, curtains whipping off the ground as the closet doors rattled. I grabbed onto the sheets, feeling something stir inside of me. The key fell in the bed, and I dragged my nails through the mattress.
I opened my mouth and a roar flew out, filling the room with an ear-shattering pitch.
I'm back, bitch. The inner beast stayed behind its bars, its grin sneaking onto my own lips.
I glanced down and saw my hair turn pink again, streaks bold and vibrant.
I cracked my shoulders back, and rolled my neck, feeling the power humming in my bones.
I glanced out the window, but Trent already disappeared.
Miss me? the inner beast whispered.
"Welcome back," I told it, the presence of my other spirit making me smile. I scooped the key off my bed, leaped into the air, smacking down in front of the door.
I put the key in, and the click was music to my ears.
I push the door with my shoulder, bursting into the hallway with a new hunger.
The clang of armor rang, and I swiped my leg around, knocking a guard's head. I slammed my fist into the second guard's neck, nailing my elbow against his temple.
A breath hadn't even left my mouth by the time they slumped to the floor.
"Vhalerie!" a voice bellowed down the hall.
I spun on my heel and saw my mother standing on the other end.
Heroes stepped out of their rooms, before hiding behind their doors.
Guards swarmed around the hallway corner, putting themselves in front of their majesty. Apparently, if I'm a princess that made her a queen.
I've always wanted to kick royal ass...
My mother raised her arm, and my medallion glowed. Her eyes went big, hand quickly falling down as she stumbled back.
"No," she murmured.
The fear didn't last on my mother's face.
A smirk formed on her lips and she put her hand back up. "Hold your fire." The guards lowered their weapons, and she stepped past her men.
"Honey." Her voice reminded me of a snake. "I see you removed my magic."
I winked. "Yeah, it's amazing what a little rubbing alcohol can do." Silver talons broke past my nailbeds, the metal gleaming in the reflection of my eyes.
She quirked a brow. "I knew you'd pull a clever trick. You learn from the best."
I cracked my neck again, this time feeling the sharp scales grow up my back. "Learn? Sweetie, the only thing you taught me was how to be a bitch. And we're both experts at that."
She laughed and brought her arm up even higher. Windows of Hero High snapped open and the curtains whipped around, a sharp gust of wind taking papers and flags for a ride. Soldiers grabbed onto their hats to keep them from flying.
The wrinkles across my mother's forehead softened. "Are you going to try and hurt me again?" she asked me.
"Hurt you?" I burst into laughter, swiping a fake tear off my cheek. "Sugar plum, I don't have to try. I will kill you."
A beastly roar erupted from the skies and the walls of Hero High shook. My brows furrowed as did my mother's.
"For seven sins, who else is gonna crash this party?" I exclaimed.
The ceiling fell through, tiles raining down. Bones crushed under chunks of cement, smoke blowing up as we dove for cover.
I bumped against the wall, and a screech I had never heard echoed through our ears. I covered my hands over my head, feeling a liquid seep from my ears.
Human screams mixed with the shouts, chaos breaking out.
I rushed to my feet, tripping over a stupid tile before I threw my hands up. "Now that's what I call a party crasher!"
The voice of my mother got lost in the smoke and damage, and I waved my hand around to get a good look of the mess. Sunlight bled through the gigantic hole in the ceiling, and I turned to be confronted with a pair of glowing eyes.
They were the same ones from the forest back in Villain Academy.
I caught a glimpse of a tail.
Yep. Same beast.
The beast stared at me, the folds of its eyes softening.
"Get it!" my mom screamed.
It's eyes hardened and its scales flared, another roar shaking the school.
For a moment, I thought she was talking about me until I noticed the arrows flying towards the beast.
It howled and went on all fours, scrambling up the walls and through the hole it made seconds ago. I ran after it, stumbling over the rocks and cement, and caught a glimpse of the color of its scales before a voice held me back.
"One more step and I'll put an arrow through your head."
I looked up and saw the arrows hovering over me, my mom's arms up and ready to fire.
I rooted my feet to the ground and craned my neck over to catch one last look of the beast before it disappeared through the roof.
"There's no point in chasing after it," she simply stated, approaching me.
Ashes smudged across her face, grey hair tumbling out of her braid.
"Why?" I asked, daring her to finally give me an answer.
"That was the Beast of Citizens," she spoke. "You will meet again."
Something shifted in my eyes, the anger of my inner beast settling. "I refuse to play your killing game," I said. "The only throat I want between my teeth is yours."
"Don't go against history. It never ends well." My mom twisted her wrist and the arrows inched closer to my face. "Now get down on your knees."
The guards behind her held the chains in their hands, staring at me and my mom.
Amusement sparkled in my eyes. "That sounds like the beginning of a porno. Aw, shucks. I'm honored to be part of this incest bed and all, but Vhalerie doesn't swing that way, sugar."
Confusion passed over my mother's face. "What-"
"The princess has returned," I said, the medallion whispered on my chest.
"Moving trees!" a guard yelped.
My mother glared at the horizon, horror struck across her face. "No. The beasts are to fight for our battles." She whipped her head around at me. "You're ruining history!"
"I'm not ruining history." My spine cracked, bones expanding and rolling against one another as my eyes glowed a piercing black. "I'm making it."
The Citizens swung down from Hero High with weapons, attacking on the guards below. I laughed and grew my talons, swiping it across a guard's neck.
Trent swooped down along with the other Citizen travelers. "What's up, buttercup?" he asked me.
"It's about time you showed up."
"Can someone please explain to me what's going on?" my mother screamed.
Thousands of citizens stormed from the mountains, flooding in towards Hero High with handmade weapons.
Heroes poked their heads out the window and came out in their nightwear. They took one look at the army heading their way and screamed, rushing back into Hero High. "Pussies," I spat.
"There is a law!" my mom yelled. "Only the beasts fight our battles! Heroes and Citizens cannot fight against each other!"
"Shut your pie hole, woman," Trent said.
"Mom. Surrender or we'll have your head at the end of an axe." I smiled. "Pretty please, candy cane?"
My mom's face twisted back to a smirk. She looked over to Trent and she laughed. "Seriously? So this was what you had in mind? Pathetic, Trent."
I frowned. "Pardon my English?"
My mom shook her head and pointed to Trent. "You persuaded my daughter to put Heroes in chains? You tell her to change history, but all you're doing is repeating it."
Trent stepped in front of my mom, meeting nose to nose. "Vhalerie. What you mom is saying is that putting Heroes in chains is not okay. Even though Heroes put Citizens in chains for centuries."
"Someone slap me with an explanation," I demanded. I put my hand on my hip and looked between the two.
"Every century a battle is broken out between the Beast of Citizens, Beast of Heroes and Beast of Villains," my mom said.
"The first beast that is killed represents the losers. In the previous war, the Beast of Citizens was killed first. Therefore, the Heroes decided to shoo the Citizens off from the land," Trent added.
"You're all rats," my mom casually remarked and spat on Trent's shoes.
"Mom, don't clean his shoes. I tried." I looked over to Trent. "My mom is right. This cycle thing we got goin' on? Putting losers in chains and banishing them from the land? Not cool. How 'bout we stop this war right now?"
Everyone looked at me like I was insane.
"What?" I asked, and glanced around for an understanding face. "Putting the enemy in chains because they put you in chains doesn't change history. I don't live to repeat."
"Are you crazy?" Trent shouted.
"Don't ask me whose crazy, sugar," I replied. "Look, what I'm proposing is still fresh and raw in your minds. So how 'bout we let that idea cook for the night, and then we come back with an agreement tomorrow?"
My mom barked a harsh laugh. "Words don't change anything, sweetie. You and the Beast of Citizens will fight. You can try to change history, but nature will always stay the same."
Whispers rose from the medallion again, heat growing across my heart and up my neck.
"Vhalerie," a voice whispered again.
I rolled my eyes and took the medallion from under my shirt. "Do ya mind shutting up? I'm trying to have a talk with my mother."
A hush fell over the crowd, silencing every Hero across the land.
"Where did you get that?!" my mom snapped.
