Chapter 6
A/N: Hello everyone! I don't have to report for work until three this afternoon, so I thought that I should come up with the next chapter in the meantime. I have noted all of you who have voted and commented on the previous chapters and I thank you all from the bottom of my heart. As soon as I find the time, I will reply to all your comments. Please be patient with me for now. Thank you for your understanding! And now, let's listen to Copter narrating his story.
Copter's POV
I was up bright and early the following day because I did not want to be late for our next meeting with the director. He said to be back at eight and so I was there on the dot.
When I opened the conference room door, to my surprise, everyone except the director was already there. Holy shit, these co-actors of mine are such early birds. I will have to do better than this next time.
It was Tee who saw me first when I entered the room. P'Kim was busy chatting with Bas, with his back to the door so he did not see me straight away. The Phana guy (I can't recall his real name) was seated at the far end of the table, resting his head on his arms, probably sleeping. He must have been the very first to arrive here. The other guy who got the role of Forth was looking at his phone and did not notice my entrance.
In other words, it was only Tee who noticed me and smiled and made a little wave of his hand to me. I smiled and waved back. I had a feeling that Tee and I would become close friends in the days ahead. He motioned for me to take the seat beside him. That was the moment that P'Kim noticed me and stopped his sentence in mid-stream.
"And then what happened?" asked Bas impatiently, "what, what???"
"Um...uh...I'll tell you later," P'Kim said to him, with his eyes not leaving me.
"No, P'Kim! Don't do this to me!!!" Bas protested but P'Kim had already stood up and walked away from him and was making his way to the empty chair beside me. Tee was on my other side.
"Hi, Cop, how are you doing?" he asked me with a genuinely happy smile. I glanced at Bas and saw him pouting angrily. I made a quick glance at Tee, like just for a split second, and I noticed a smirk on his face.
I fervently hoped that I had not made an enemy out of Bas and I also hoped that even if Tee did not get along with P'Kim (I'm just assuming, I could be wrong) that we could still be friends.
"I'm doing alright," I replied to him with a smile.
"Can I take this chair?" he asked, pointing to the empty seat beside me.
"Of course," I answered.
"P'Kim! What a meanie you are!!!" Bas yelled from his side of the table.
Just then the director entered the room and everyone rose from his seat, except the Phana guy. Bas went over to him and shook him gently, whispering something to him, I guess letting him know that the director had arrived.
The Phana guy rubbed his eyes and stood up quickly and bowed with his hands clasped together like the rest of us.
The director returned our greeting by making the same gesture, then he motioned for everybody to take their seats.
"Today" he said, "I will be distributing your ID badges, pointing to a box that he had carried earlier and had set down on the table. "The badges will give you easy access to the parking lots of this building and to the entrance to the lobby."
I did have to answer a few questions from the security guard before I could park my car and before I could enter the lobby. I was guessing that everyone else went through the same experience that I did, so all of us were happy to receive our badges.
"Until your dormitory is ready for you to move in, you will be coming in to report to me. I was informed by the person in charge of the dormitory that it will be ready for occupancy in a week's time."
The director then pushed the box towards P'Kim and said, "After you take your badge, just pass on the box around the table."
P'Kim moved his hand around the box searching for his badge. Then he took it out and handed it to me. "What, oh, it's my ID," I said, noting my photo and name on it. "Thanks!"
He then went back to the box to search for his own ID badge. When he found it, he pushed the box towards Tee. I noticed Tee and Bas shaking their heads simultaneously.
Oh dear, I hope that P'Kim does not continue to show me any more special attention in the coming days just in case some of our co-actors do not approve of it.
