"Catch me if you can!" A black dragon teased, her scales were close to the colour red and her eyes were a dull grey red. She scrapped her talons on the smooth cold floor.

"Oh I'll get you Nightfire!" a dark purple RainWing NightWing hybrid roared flaring her ruff. 

Her scales shifted too a dark blue, her scales could change colours from shades of dark purple, shades of dark blue and shades of yellow. She got that from her mother, Rose, a RainWing that was killed by SkyWings. Unity heard Phoenix talking about her mother, that's how she got the name. 

As Unity opened her wings, she could see violet and yellow mixed in a dark blue and bright blue star's scattered along her wing. Her claws, tongue, spines and RainWing like horn was also this colour.  

Unity jumped onto Nightfire "Got ya!" she bounded tapping Nightfire's head like a cat. Nightfire hissed playfully.

The Orphanage was full of dragonet hybrids, but here and there unwanted purebloods would come, example; Nightfire. Although there are some rumours saying her father was a NightWing SkyWing and her mother was a pure NightWing, so that made Nightfire's scales more vivid than the usual NightWing, the stars under Nightfire's wing were a silvery metallic red.

But other than that, Nightfire looked exactly like every other NightWing. The reason Phoenix hated her, and treated her unfairly, but surprisingly Nightfire didn't hate Phoenix back, she actually tried to be the best when Phoenix was around, trying to make her give Nightfire the you're-so-precious-and-beautiful-and-awesome-why-did-I-hate-you look. 

Nightfire was very pretty in Unity's opinion, strong majestic wings, perfect claws and the prettiest eyes Unity has seen (other than another pair of fiery eyes...) But multiple times the two would have arguments that the other was more pretty, Unity would always say how plump she looked and Nightfire would always say how perfect Unity was.

Unity smiled at her friend "Hey! Wanna go see what Evergreen and Icefire's up too?" 

Nightfire grinned "Isn't the answer obvi? YES! I WANT TO ANNOY THEM!" 

Unity burst out laughing "Then off we go!" she declared between laughs.

"What are you two dragonets bubbling up about?" Canyon asked grinning, Canyon was every dragonets favourite, no one knew who was Canyons favourite, but that didn't stop the dragonets from having arguments about it.

"Oh we're just gonna see Evergreen and Icefire" Nightfire said and innocently blinked but her eyes were saying 'we are up to a moon full of mischief!'. And Canyon did not miss it, no dragon could have.

"Go easy on them will you kiddo?" Canyon said seriously but still had the spark of amusement in her eyes.

"We will!" Unity and Nightfire both said. After they were away from earshot Nightfire whispered "Not!".

The two dragonets were 6, and this year, was their last at the orphanage. It was also the last for Icefire and Evergreen.

Unity found the two dragonets sitting with Phoenix, Nightfire immediately straightened her tail and placed her shoulders back like Phoenix had taught them.

Icefire looked like he was going to dose of at any minute until he saw Unity and Nightfire. Icefire nudged Evergreen with his elbow in the stomach, he snarled at the IceWing SkyWing hybrid but then saw Unity and Nightfire and waved at them smiling.

Phoenix turned her head to see who Evergreen was waving at, she looked boringly at Unity but her eyes immediately flared into disgust when she saw Nightfire. No one knew why Phoenix hated Nightfire so much, but Unity figured it wasn't Nightfire, and it was the fact she was a NightWing.

Unity thought this because Phoenix didn't act so kindly to another NightWing caretaker named Visionary. No one knew if he actually could see the future but once Visionary said something about a thief, and then the next day a dragonet was caught red taloned trying to steal gold from a SandWing that had come to visit for the day. 

So coincidence? (I THINK NOT!)

Unity came and sat near Icefire wrapping her tail around his in greeting, Nightfire did the same with Evergreen. But no one dared to greet Phoenix like that, no one dared to do anything against or for Phoenix because they would get yelled at, all they did to say hello was respectfully tilt their heads, that was it.

Phoenix glared at Nightfire for what seemed like forever, Phoenix didn't try hiding the fact she disliked Nightfire.

Nightfire tilted her head nervously, Unity did the same. Phoenix didn't seem to be bothered by NightWing hybrids, but she definitely hated NightWing pure's. Phoenix's scales radiated with heat that made Unity sweat, but it looked like Nightfire was sweating a whole moon already without the heat.

"Anyways, I was talking about the battles in the SandWing Succession, and the great battle when the Great SkyWing Queen Ruby challenged her mother Scarlet for the throne." Phoenix growled turning to Unity, "But if you don't want to listen to the greatest day in the history of the SkyWings then leave" Phoenix snarled flickering her tail dismissively. A few dragonets scattered away but Unity, Nightfire, Icefire, Evergreen and a SkyWing SandWing hybrid named Armadillo stayed.

Nightfire smiled sitting straighter than before "I would love to hear it, Miss Phoenix!"

Phoenix's ears twitched like she was hearing a bug talk. "Very well" Phoenix wasn't that much older than the dragonets, she was sixteen only ten years older, not like the others that were thirty years older. 

Which made Unity wonder, why was she here? Phoenix loved telling tales and she said she used to be a very high ranked soldier in Queen Clash's army, why was she here now? And had she been that young when she served the queen?

But Unity never asked those questions, because she'd probably get yelled at. Unity also wondered why Phoenix was the youngest out of the guardians but also the biggest. Canyon was not the oldest in her sibs, she was the youngest so Canyon wasn't that very big.

After Phoenix's story, the five dragonets went off to eat some fresh-kill. "I'm starving!" Armadillo cried his stomach growling in agreement.

Nightfire giggled "You sound like  thunder!"

Evergreen laughed in agreement, Icefire rolled his fiery eyes "Let's just get there before we get classes and before we're left with the bones"

And with that they dashed to the dining room, it was a very big room with three very long wooden tables. A lot of dragonets already were gobbling down the fresh-kill for the evening. 

"Move it Ant!" Evergreen yelled as four glassy wings whacked his face. The HiveWing hybrid folded his wings giving Evergreen an apologetic look "Sorry" he whispered. Evergreen looked worried as if he just remembered how sensitive Ant was. "Sorry I didn't mean to yel-"

"Come on Evergreen!" Armadillo grunted cutting him off pulling Evergreen's arm.

Icefire was already in line for the fresh-kill, he looked back at Unity smiling, he motioned his tail as in saying 'come here'. Unity made her way too Icefire, but a big MudWing SandWing hybrid stopped her.

"Get to the back you have to wait your turn" He growled, "Sorry Dagg–" She started but Icefire cut her off "Leave her alone Dagger, she's with me" He hissed at Dagger drawing his frost breath.

Dagger grunted coiling his barbed tail. He moved out of the way and shoved Unity down but Icefire was quick to catch her.

"Thanks 'Brave'" Unity giggled, Icefire just rolled his fiery eyes, his eyes always seemed to put some spell on Unity, and she did not like it.

Icefire handed Unity a pale green fish with a vibrant blue underbelly and yellow fin's. "Thanks 'Brave' your so so very kind" Unity smiled teasingly.

"Shut your snout before I snatch it off you" Icefire said imitating Phoenix with her I'm-going-to-burn-you voice. Unity gasped looking around seeing if Phoenix heard, Icefire scoffed "She's not going to hear in THIS noise, I bet she's not even here".

Unity gave him the you-never-know! Look.

They found a place to sit down and eat, Armadillo was already swallowing a pigs leg. And Evergreen was gulping down his share, in this group of friends, there is no such thing as eating, it's DEVOURING. 

Unity did the same thing with the fish in her claws and so did Icefire. She slashed it in half so she wouldn't choke herself then gobbled it down in a minute.

A minute later Nightfire joined them, then ten minutes later they were done.

They talked for a while about, stuff...

But soon Unity heard the annoying ringing of a small bronze metal bell every Guardian had. She had to hear that bell ring for all her life, she never got used to it, they hurt her ears, and so did rock scrapping on rocks.

The dragonets scrambled in all different places running off to their classes, Unity and the rest of her friends were with Phoenix for the day, each day each 'Wing' (a group of dragonets that do everything together.) Get's a different Guardian that teaches them everything for the day.

In Unity's Wing, she had all her friends, that's how she became friend with them in the first place. Ant and another dragonet named Pearl also was in her Wing.

All the dragonets were walking in their Wing, to the caves of the Guardian that was teaching them that day.

It was loud and noisy and crowded, but Unity somehow kept close to her Wing.

A loud roar was heard, everyone stopped, everyone was looking around to whoever roared.

"Did you guys hear that?" Unity heard a whisper. "Yeah I think it came beyond the walls!" Another cried.

"Beyond the walls?" Icefire questioned looking at Unity "Beyond the doors?" Evergreen shivered "Do you think–" He started.

"But that's not possible, it's been years since another hybrid has come here! Even the eggs are gone, the SkyWings and SandWings have been ordered to kill all new hybrids when we were three! It's not possible, probably another pureblood" Armadillo said way too loud that dragonets close to them started nodding too.

"But pure bloods have an orphanage of their own" Icefire said bluntly, he was bigger than most dragonets their age, and a lot of dragons younger look up to him.

His words changed dragons opinions by a lot, dragonets started agreeing with Icefire silently then Evergreen agreed louder, and everyone started agreeing, Unity wished she could do that.

That got the dragonets moving again, Unity heard some whispers saying it might be the rebels. Unity has never been outside, no dragonet has, there were no windows and no one went on the other side of those wooden doors.

Unity was about to follow Icefire again to Phoenix's cave but the loud roar was heard again. Everyone stopped, even the Guardians were silent this time.

Phoenix's growl was heard before we could see her, she was walking up to the door in a fighting position.

"Have you ever seen Phoenix fight before?" "No, but she and the other guardians are always talking about how strong she is!" "I've heard of dragons from other tribes fighting for the hybrid Orphanages, but I didn't think they would come here!" "Yeah! So close to the SkyWings?! They have to be out of their minds!"

The whispers were full of panic, Nightfire's eyes were full of fear but she stood bravely. Unity stepped closer to Icefire, she felt safe around him because he would always know what to do.

"Icefire, could it be?" She asked, Unity has always been the nervous one in the group. Icefire took his gaze off the wall to Unity's.

She was immediately put under the spell of his eyes, like a sea of glass and ice with fire burning with it.

"If it is, I will make sure they won't hurt you, or Nightfire, Evergreen will be by your side" He growled, attacks were every Orphans nightmare.

Another tribe taking them from their only home, becoming slaves early, it was no joke during this time.

The roaring came closer and closer...
