Wish Upon A Shooting Star || Guide to Resources
We asked users what kind of user-run opportunities they wished were available on Wattpad, and they gave us a great list. Here are a few suggestions of things you could start up to fill a demand on Wattpad. If you do start one, feel free to promote it in its section, and we'll also give some shoutouts to good opportunities we know of.

⭑ Collaborative Anthologies ⭑
Challenge: Start a book with a common theme and accept submissions from users around Wattpad! You get to be the editor: choose the theme, what your submission standards are, and what entries to accept. Try to give love to your authors—promote what stories you accept as much as you can. It'll be good for your anthology and for them!
Examples:
Bottled Dreams by DreamlandCommunity
A multiple-themed fiction collection (opens periodically)
Tevun-Krus by Ooorah
A sci-fi newsletter featuring SF short stories (accepts submissions monthly)
Wattpad Tips & Writing Tricks by avadel
A non-fiction collection of articles around Wattpad (currently open)
Put any examples you know of here (including your own!):
Be sure to tag the profile and/or provide a book link!

⭑ Beta Readers ⭑
Challenge: Start a beta-reading service, either formally in a book, or informally on your message board . You don't have to be a formal reviewer; just read the as much of the story as you can and give your thoughts as a reader. What was good about the story? What made you emotional? What made you want to put it down? Typically, Beta Readers only service Complete books, but your rules would be up to you.
In-Line Opportunity: Would you be interested in maybe beta reading for someone reading this book? Comment inline here with what kind of stories you accept!
In-Line Opportunity: Do you have a completed story you're looking for a Beta Reader for? Comment inline here with your story title and a quick pitch! Potential Beta Readers may or may not reach out to you!

⭑ Book Scavenger Hunt ⭑
Challenge 1: Start a Scavenger Hunt in a book or on your message board! Pick a number of clues and challenge viewers to find books that fit those clues. Once they find the book, they have to add it to a reading list. Consider rewarding participants by adding one of their books to your own reading list or by shouting out a random or really active participant!
Examples for Clues: Find a book and add it to your reading list if it:
- has a redemption arc,
- has the heroic sacrifice trope,
- has a snarky character,
- has a character named Jason,
- takes place in Ancient Rome,
- has a character with 4 siblings,
- has a sequel
When you get done, you should have 7 books in your list!
Challenge 2: Use the list above to start your own Scavenger Hunt list. If a user thanks you for adding their book to your list, challenge them to make their own Scavenger Hunt. You can reuse this list or make your own! (our list is copied in-line if you want to use it)
Put any scavenger hunt hosts you know of here (including yourself!):
Be sure to tag the profile and/or provide a book link!

⭑ Themed Reading Challenges ⭑
Challenge: Pick a theme for the month and start a book featuring stories in that theme. Encourage your readers to read the books too (maybe with prizes)!

⭑ Bookclubs ⭑
Challenge 1: Join a book club and support the other members!
Challenge 2: Promote a book club you love so others can find it!
Challenge 3: Start a book club that pairs people by how many reads they have! Consider using similar pairings (ex: 1K to 1K, 10K to 10K) and/or contrast pairings (ex: 1K to 10K, 10K to 100K).
Examples:
Dreamland Community Bookclubs by DreamlandCommunity
I listed the whole community because they have several bookclubs. Whatever kind of commitment level you're looking for, they probably have it. Their members are super friendly, and their admins are good at matching reading preferences.
Flexible Book Exchange by Flexiblebookexchange
An organized read-for-read club
Pretty In Punk Book Club by PrettyInPunkBC
A bookclub for adult users

⭑ Reviews ⭑
Challenge 1: Start a review shop that is fun. You don't have to sugarcoat, but tell the things you liked about the book and/or didn't like about it. Talk about it as if you were a reader who picked it up in a book shop instead of like an expert. How did the book make you feel? What crazy theories did you come up with? Who did you pine for the most? Imagine your audience is other readers—not the author.
Challenge 2: Give someone random a friendly review for however many chapters you feel like reading and ask them to pass it on! Make sure that your review is nice since they haven't asked for it. It can include constructive criticism, but should be mostly positive.

⭑ Awards ⭑
I know there are lots of awards out there, but hear me out. We have a few specific suggestions.
Challenge 1: Host a small award. Aim to finish within three months: one month max for submissions and about two months max for judging. Limit yourself to only accepting a small amount of participants—say, twenty or so. In an award like this, you wouldn't group by genre because it would be such a small pool. You might only accept one genre (say, a sci-fi award) or you might just lump all the genres together. What matters more than the mechanics, though, is that the award finishes. Don't try to do something too big; start small.
Challenge 2: Host an award for niche genres. Focus on promoting just vampire stories, or just horror, or just dystopian, or—whatever your favorite brand of story is that you feel gets underrepresented, let's get them all in one place and give out prizes! <3
Challenge 3: Host an award that judges the whole book. You could have a screening process so that so many stories get set aside along the way and that you only end up reading the top tier books to the end. But I think it would be nice to see more awards that judged a book based on its whole story rather than its first impression.
Challenge 4: Host an award where you reward your own judges. Give them shoutouts or maybe read a few chapters of their story yourself. The better the rewards are, the better judges you'll attract, and the higher quality your award can be. Comment inline with other prizes you think are fit (and feasible) to give a judge other than follows.
Put any awards you host based on these challenges here!
We are award connoisseurs, so we're pretty picky,
but if we like your setup, we'll promote it
on our page (even if we don't enter! ):

⭑ Cross-Promotional Reading Lists ⭑
A cross-promotional reading list is basically a massive read-for-read agreement, but instead of everyone agreeing to read each other's chapters, you all agree to put each other's books on a reading list.
Challenge: Host a cross-promotional reading list opportunity! Consider having different categories people can sign up for. These lists can be based on genre, length of book, completion status, audience age range, or some other category you come up with yourself. Keep track of everyone who has joined the list by having a copy of the books in your own Official reading list. If someone consistently doesn't keep up with adding books to the list, make sure to remove their name from the list next time you announce the Official updated list.

⭑ Featured Lists ⭑
You know how Wattpad curates featured lists? Well, users can do that just as easily!
Challenge: Start a Featured reading list on your profile and put it as your top reading list so everyone who visits your profile sees it. Choose 5 books each month to feature, either by picking them out yourself or letting people apply for it! Applications could be collected through users dropping a link on your message board, leaving a comment form in a dedicated book, or filling out a Google Form—whatever is easiest for you to manage.

⭑ Personalized Interviews ⭑
Challenge: Start an interview book where you ask authors fun questions instead of the generic ones. If users give interesting responses, ask follow-up questions!

⭑ Mentor Programs ⭑
Challenge 1: Manage a mentorship program, where writers with lots of writing experience and/or reads help give writing tips and Wattpad advice to writers with fewer reads. Don't make mentoring too hard or strenuous or else you might have a hard time getting the mentors to sign up. Provide places to have fun interactions, give activities for the pairs to do together, and/or maybe give shoutouts to all the mentors who join. Ask mentors to also help promote their mentees' stories!
In-Line Opportunity: If you're an author with less than 10K reads looking for a hand up on your story, comment the following form in-line:
Genre:
Story Title:
One-Sentence Story Pitch:
What It Would Mean to You If Someone Worked With You:
What You're Expecting a Mentor To Do For You:
If you're an author with 10K reads or more, consider scrolling through the forms above and seeing if there is anyone you would be interested in helping out!

⭑ Random Acts of Kindness ⭑
Challenge 1: Read and comment on as many chapter of someone's book as you like. If they thank you, ask them to pass it on!
Challenge 2: Give someone a shoutout! If they thank you, ask them to pass it on!
If you have ideas for other random acts of kindness, put them here:

A lot of the other stuff that was mentioned in the survey results was targeted shoutouts, so we're going to tackle that in the next chapter. Networking opportunities await!
