All Ivetta wants is a steady paycheck and consistent hours. Her mother's health is failing fast, and she has to earn enough money to keep paying the mounting doctor's bills. But a dubious background means finding safe employment is hard. Getting a job as a palace maid seems like the answer she needs, even if she has a long commute.Until she meets her new employer.Prince Chevalier, the Second Prince of Rhodolite, has a reputation for being a cruel, heartless monster. The Brutal Beast. The Bloody Tiger. This is the man Ivetta now works for, and if it weren't for her circumstances, she would have quit after the first day. But although he and his seven brothers are each their own variety of beast, putting up with them is better than the alternative. There are many dangers outside the palace for a vulnerable young woman, after all. When disaster inevitably strikes, she resolves to hide the truth and pretend nothing is wrong, just like she's always done. She never expects Prince Chevalier to come to her rescue. But he does. And suddenly, he's the only person with whom she truly feels safe, allowing the roots of an unlikely and impossible romance to take hold. A romance neither of them can let happen. But the heart wants what it wants.Threats against Prince Chevalier become threats against Ivetta, forcing them even closer together. When the pain of loss overwhelms her, she turns to him. When the threats become reality, he'll do anything to save her. And when the mysteries of her past come to bear, the impossible becomes possible. A glimmer of hope for a brighter future blossoms in the darkness.Maybe, on the other side of pain and heartbreak, is the fairytale ending Ivetta never dreamed was possible.*****There is no swearing or explicit sexual content, but themes and content are mature. Full list of content/trigger warnings in the introduction.…
Here I go with another writing experiment. I joined The Fabulous Spec-Fic Smack Down by LayethTheSmackDown, which required me to write Speculative Fiction flash fiction, short stories, drabbles, and poetry inspired by prompts. If you're as unfamiliar with Speculative Fiction as I was when I started this, check out @ReshapeIt for more info. So, the writing experiment:- I'd never written Speculative Fiction.- Or flash fiction.- Or drabbles.- Or from an image prompt.Somehow, I survived the eliminations until round four, part one. I've decided to keep following the contest on my own, so as long as it's running, I'll keep adding chapters within the deadline based on the prompts provided. But I won't stop when the contest ends. This has been such a fun project, so I've decided to pull prompts from various sources around the site and keep it going as long as I can. :)Note: Word count varies with the application used. All the word counts here come from Google Docs.…
Iris is an orphan, leading what she considers a normal life. As the oldest in Father John's care, she works hard to help bring in the money needed to feed and clothe the younger children, and she does it without complaint. Everybody in town knows her and loves her. Someday, she'll get married and start her own family, but a war looming over her home makes someday a distant prospect. Then magic invades her simple life, and everything she knows is turned upside down. She's suddenly the center of a war between dragons and humans, and the only person she can turn to for help is a stranger who may or may not be the enemy.Char and his brother Rath are dragons and certified troublemakers. They're a favorite at parties, especially among girls, and a pain in their commanding officer's side. But Char's familiarity with humans earns him a scouting mission that brings with it more trouble than he could ever anticipate: a simple orphan girl. She's too innocent for the tangled web of magic tightening around her, and he's too impulsive to stay out of it, even if that means lying to his brother and risking his life to keep her out of the hands of a psychotic mage.Their adventure is about to begin.*****This is a bit of a writing experiment for me. I usually write in first person, but I wrote this in third person, and I alternate between Iris and Char's perspectives every ten chapters. Comments and constructive criticism are welcome. I haven't finished writing the ending, so what you see is what you get until I get around to that. This will probably be the first in a series of fantasy romance novels.Content/trigger warning: There is no explicit content, but themes and content are mature and include instances or mention of alcohol, blood, death, depression, loss of a loved one, murder, off-screen rape, racism, religion, sexual assault, torture, violence.…
What was supposed to be a simple fanfiction has taken on a life of its own, and I've had to create a reference document to keep all the details straight. This book will contain that information in a (hopefully) reader-friendly format. For those who've enjoyed "A Dove's Tale" and "A Beast's Tale," I offer you this to peruse. Enjoy my insanity!Also...spoiler alert. I will attempt to label the chapters that contain spoilers accordingly, but...read at your own risk. ;)Cover created by @lostlovefairy. Thank you so much!…
Wondering what awards are open? What about the status of that awards you entered three months ago? Is that even still happening? Well, lucky for you, I've done the work, so you don't have to. Within these pages are awards that have been active within the past six months, organized alphabetically, with dates of entry deadlines, judging windows, expected results announcements, and latest updates from the organizers.Or maybe you're looking for a graphics designer to make the perfect cover for you. Or you'd like to dress your profile up with a fancy bio, but you don't know where to start. I've got you covered with lists of shops I've stumbled across that cater to everything you need. This will always be a work in progress. If I've missed something, or you'd like me to add a new chapter, drop me a message on my profile, and I'll look into it.…
Interested in some constructive criticism? Want to know what awards I've judged? This is the place where I'm keeping track of informal feedback requests, detailed scoring for awards, full book reviews, and anything else of that nature. If you're interested in getting some feedback from me, read on.*****Credits:Banners at the end of each chapter created by @WakeWriteWrath. Thank you so much!…
It's getting messy to keep track of achievements and awards within individual books, so I'm putting them all here. I don't know why anybody else would want to look at this, but if you're interested, here you go. Otherwise, I'll just check this out whenever I'm feeling low. :)The cover is just a template in Canva.…
Spelling, punctuation, and grammar - the bane of many a writer's existence. They're so basic and so complicated, and they can make the difference between a good story and a great story. Why do there have to be so many rules? Why are there so many exceptions to the rules? Why do we even care?Answers: English is weird. And we are writers. In this book, I will attempt to demystifying the mystifying and share what I've learned about this often painful subject, along with other tips and tricks I've picked up along my writing journey. I am by no means an expert, but hopefully, I can help a little. And if something I say is wrong or could be stated better, by all means, let me know. We're all stuck in this ocean of mismatched letters and punctuation marks together.Credit for the title goes to @Agustwinter, who has vowed to conquer the monster and get a higher score. I believe in you!…
Cold, cruel, calculating. These are the words that best describe Chevalier Michel, the second prince of Rhodolite. A genius and a master swordsman, he has well and truly earned the monikers the Brutal Beast and the Bloody Tiger, and he's worked his whole life toward the singular goal of claiming the throne. Now, that goal is within reach. But his world turns upside-down when a new maid shows up in his private library, a woman who can stand up to him when nobody else can. So begins an impossible romance. The Brutal Beast, and Rhodolite, will never be the same again.*****Based on the otome game Ikemen Prince: Beauty and Her Beast. All images come from the game, and I've also included some dialogue from the prologue and Chevalier's romantic ending where Belle chooses him as king. There is no explicit content, but themes and content are mature. This is an accompaniment to "A Dove's Tale," and it started off as a writing experiment for me to try retelling the story from a male perspective, which I'd never done before. I strongly recommend reading "A Dove's Tale" in its entirety before reading this. The current version of "A Dove's Tale," written based only on Chevalier's route, has been entered in the Amby Awards 2023. I have since read Leon's, Yves', Nokto's, and Licht's routes, and "A Beast's Tale" contains a TON of new content. Also, there are some Easter Eggs/references to an older Ikemen game called Midnight Cinderella.Content Warning: Contains themes of assault, attempted rape, child abuse, depression, extreme violence gore, self-harm, sexual assault abuse, suicide, torture, violent death.…
Diane is the daughter of the devil, a cold-blooded killer who experiences a drastic change of heart. Ashley is a talented, boisterous teenager, eager to fight back against the darkness surrounding her home. When the two meet, everything changes - for them, and for the rest of the world.I started writing this back when I was 12 years old. I wasn't a Christian then, and the story was heavily influenced by books like Anne Rice's Vampire Chronicles and the Dragonlance series, specifically those authored by Margaret Weiss and Tracy Hickman. Other major influences were anime shown on Toonami, Dragon Ball Z probably being chief among those. When I became a Christian, everything changed, and the story gained a whole new level of depth. It has morphed considerably over the years, but I think it's in its final form now.…
I started this story way back in the day when I was a kid playing Neopets. All the popular users had custom art and stories for their pets, and I wanted the same. I just came back to touch this up and finally post it on Neopets (yes, I still play). It was originally written for a Neopets Petpage, but I have reworked it into a proper story for submission to the Neopian Times. I thought it would be fun to put it up here in case anybody wants to indulge in some nostalgia with me.…
This is a collection of contest entries, plays, short stories, and other nonsense that I've written. Some of these may be excerpts from a larger work. If that's the case, I'll note where to find the original content at the bottom of the chapter.…
