Chapter 6 - The Outsider

Since the news of the Ice Woman's appearance on the streets of San Fransokyo, the atmosphere at Monarch headquarters had changed dramatically. For hours without interruption to rest his eyes or his brain, Professor Henri Serizawa did not stop researching the data of Monarch and its history, until the first years which saw the foundation of the organization. The results he had obtained by digging through the archives concerning the case of these giant creatures, the titans, had led him to accept the obvious: the legend of the queen and the beast was real ...

Sitting at his desk, Serizawa nervously twirled a small silver coin between her fingers. An old silver coin he inherited from his grandfather.

In front of him, on holograms generated by a projector, appeared different images and photos, but each representing the same subject: a young woman, with powers of ice, and a giant humanoid lizard with its back bristling with spikes, both together ...

To make sure not to make a mistake, Serizawa had to compare the features of the face of the young woman of ice thanks to tables representing her, during the era when she reigned as queen of Arendelle, with a capture of image taken from the camera which had filmed the incident in downtown San Fransokyo ... the two faces were compared, and the result of the facies and DNA analysis agreed 100%.

It was indeed the same person. For several centuries, she had not changed at all ...

This prompted Henry to rummage again in the old books recounting legends of titans through the ages ... among these legends he found one, speaking of some sort of prophecy, very long ago ... four elements ... water, fire, air and earth ... and in the midst of them, a fifth element, the bridge connecting the four and bringing the perfect balance ...

But for some reason Serizawa was unaware of, all of the books relating to this prophetic legend which seemed to have come true in the past had all been either destroyed or hidden in secret places, but ultimately found after intensive excavations by Monarch ... it was almost as if people decided to hide this past forever, as if they were afraid of it ... because the legend spoke of a power, once the five elements were brought together ... a power so powerful and impossible to imagine, that it would be able to reshape balance, but also life, thus changing the face of existence ...

Thinking back on that prophecy, then looking again at the images of Queen Elsa, then that king of the monsters named Godzilla ... Serizawa came to a conclusion that sharply divided it between curiosity and awe ...

He returned to his desk and hit the talk button.

_ "Doctor Lewis, get one of our helicopters ready ... we're going to San Fransokyo."

Meanwhile...

_ "So if I understood correctly ... you, who you call the Big Hero 6, are using electricity based technology that can light up your homes, but also be able to operate living metal machines, like those things you call robots ... and you say everyone has access to that electricity. You also ride in horse-less carts, but there are also flying machines that can carry people through the sky. .and you also say that the monarchy these days no longer exists and that countries are ruled by what you call a ... president... "

Elsa had tried really hard to sum up as best she could what she had heard from Hiro and his friends, all gathered around the table in the modest kitchen. Hiro's aunt, Cass, still hadn't come home from her night at a friend's house.

Hiro nodded at this summary. Elsa was still confused, sitting in her chair and holding in her hand a slice of pizza that she had finally accepted, more out of politeness. Although initially sickened by the appearance of this food, she had decided to taste a little bite, and rather enjoyed the taste, even though she thought there was a little too much cheese. What would Anna think of all this? Elsa wondered in her head as she put the slice of pizza back on the plate in front of her, not really hungry anymore.

_ "You forget to mention pizza, one of mankind's finest inventions." Fred said enthusiastically, eliciting desperate sighs from his friends who must have been used to his off-the-wall behavior.

_ "Hmm ... certainly ..." Elsa answered a little embarrassed.

During the explanation, she had been able to observe in silence each of these nice but strange characters. Fred didn't look very smart, but surprised with his optimism. Wasabi seemed to be very clean on him, Elsa having seen him eat and put away his cutlery very carefully. Go Go and Honey, the two girls, were different in character, the former appearing more reserved, and the latter being more cheerful and enthusiastic, sometimes a little too much. Baymax, the robot, sat in his place without moving or speaking, watching what was going on.

And finally, there was Hiro, the one who had the most impact on Elsa in terms of personality. Despite his very young age, he seemed to have a great soul and courage, she had guessed. But she also felt that he had been through difficult things, for she herself with what she had experienced could easily see it in the eyes of others.

_ "Listen ... I ... I beg you to forgive me for what I was able to do to you earlier ... and I thank you, sincerely, for helping me ... I am indebted to you." Elsa said sincerely and nodded in thanks.

Hiro and the others watched her do it, hearing her speak in a very specific way about herself, even old-fashioned aristocratic.

_ "It's okay, Elsa, I assure you. Besides, we couldn't leave you in the hands of a man like Walter Simmons." Hiro said.

_"Who?" she asked, raising an eyebrow.

Wasabi searched for a picture on her cell phone on google and showed it to Elsa. She then recognized the man she had vaguely seen before escaping from the tall glass tower. The man's face and gaze only inspired her with arrogance and mistrust.

_ "He is the richest and most influential man in all of San Fransokyo, maybe even in the country or the world. He is the founder and boss of the APEX corporation which is at the origin of most of the great advancing technologies of the last decades ... he's so rich that he can even afford his own private army." Wasabi explained.

_ "A bunch of former mercenaries and bounty hunters ... not really a model army." Go Go added coldly and contemptuously.

_ "But because of his too great wealth and his intellect which he claims to be superior, Simmons believes himself above the law and does not hesitate sometimes to engage in traffic that is not really legal ... and his numerous relations within the government are the ideal cover to allow him to continue without risking the intervention of the police ... " said Honey in turn.

_ "Personally, I nickname him Lex Luthor, even though hey, Simmons is not as bald as an egg, the two of them would get along fine." pointed out Fred.

Elsa had listened to what they were saying, hearing there the description of a rather contemptuous man, with a concept of superiority and who thinks that only wealth brings power ... the kind of person that Elsa could not at all appreciate ... although she is in the future, she noted that certain mentalities must not have evolved since her time ...

_ "But ... what does he want from me?" Elsa asked then.

_ "Profit ..." Hiro replied "... look at you ... you are living proof of the past, what is more, a woman endowed with supernatural abilities ... for Simmons, this discovery could make him even more richer and more influential than he already is, but who knows what else he might have in store for you."

_ "To transform you into a living weapon, that's for sure." Fred said, getting more serious this time. The others had to admit that he wasn't totally wrong.

Elsa shivered with anguish at the mention of a living weapon she might become in the hands of this Simmons. How awful ... but soon her thoughts turned to Godzilla and a horrible foreboding took hold of her ... if Simmons ever found out about the King of the Monsters, this madman would be able to want to capture him and make one. weapon of destruction ... such an action could trigger the wrath of Godzilla, who would see it as a declaration of war on the part of mankind and cause his anger ... just thinking about it Elsa sweated cold ...

_ "Hmm ... Elsa ... are you okay?" Hiro then asked seeing her worried.

_ "I ... I feel really exhausted ... I beg your pardon, but I'm going to go to sleep a little ..." she replied, getting up from her chair.

Although they wanted to know more about her, Hiro and his friends decided to be understanding and patient.

_ "You can sleep in my bed if you want ... I would sleep on a mattress on the floor ..." Hiro then told her, who once again was very helpful, which Elsa appreciated and smiled softly at him.

When Elsa climbed the stairs to return to the bedroom on her own, Hiro turned to Baymax.

_ "Baymax, I'm sorry, but I would like you to stay up all night to watch her ... and also protect her, if needed. Knowing Simmons, I doubt he would give up that easily."

_ "Very well, Hiro." the robot replied simply.

Meanwhile, Honey Lemon had activated her cell phone and was going online, looking very concerned about one detail.

_"What are you doing?" Go Go asked her, looking at the screen curious.

_ "It's Elsa ... I don't know why, but her face tells me something ... I'm sure I've seen her somewhere before, but where ..." Honey replied, convinced of something that titillated her brain...

Meanwhile, and having closed the bedroom door behind her, Elsa sat alone on Hiro's bed. Having used fatigue to isolate herself a bit, she couldn't help but be both worried and sad, feeling more alone and lost than ever, and more eager than anything to see Godzilla, who she knew, again. was probably already looking for her ... she so wanted to be able to get out of here and run to find her ... but in such a big and unknown city, it was way too risky ... and then, this Walter Simmons and his men were surely out there, waiting for the right moment to get their hands on her ...

Torn by this infamous dilemma, Elsa ended up letting the real fatigue take over and without realizing it, gradually fell asleep on the blanket...

**********

Later...

Overwhelmed by a very strange sensation that ran through her whole body, Elsa was awakened, opening her eyes painfully and feeling very heavy, as if her body had been filled with lead ...

Moaning while rubbing her painful head, she sat up on the bed, finding herself in Hiro's room plunged into the darkness of the night ... but yet, something very abnormal surprised her. The landscape before her was not a room, but a veritable empty, distorted and dark landscape, studded with strange scarlet lights and moving in the distance, like a sort of sinister aurora borealis.

In this endless void, floated, as in weightlessness, debris of rocks and buildings, but also kinds of islands made of black volcanic rock ...

Elsa, stunned, took a few steps to the edge of the void, contemplating this incredible landscape and in perpetual motion before her eyes. The atmosphere that reigned was very heavy, she felt it all around and inside her. She also felt her magic being affected, barely feeling it.

_ "Where ... where am I?"

But suddenly, as she wondered, a strange feeling crossed her, making her jump in fear and make her look all around ... she clearly felt it ... a strange, invisible, but real presence, was there, approaching ... she also felt an immense and unknown power ... a magic that she had never felt before ...

Suddenly, clouds of small black sparks appeared, floating in groups and coming to form, little by little, a humanoid form a few meters from Elsa, who then recoiled, frightened, while the form appeared in front of her.

He had the appearance of a young man, with a thin face, with long black hair falling over his shoulders, very pale complexion, and bottomless black eyes. He was dressed in a large black frock coat, black pants and black boots.

The stranger stood erect, his hands behind his back and looking very confident, forming a wedge of a smile on his white lips. Elsa stepped back to the back of the room ... the immense aura of power emanated from him ...

_ "Queen Elsa of Arendelle ... or should I say, Goddess Elsa in your case now ... anyway, I'm delighted to finally meet you in person after all this time ..." said he, in a deep voice, which echoed like an echo around him and in the landscape.

_"Who are you?" asked Elsa, looking at him, feeling both uncomfortable but also fascinated, like an irrepressible hypnotizing aura.

_ "I never really had names ... I never saw the usefulness, nor the meaning, at least for me ... you can call me the Outsider ..."

The Outsider? She had never heard of him before, and doubted anyone knew him. But one thing was for sure, who or whatever, he wasn't human at all.

The man, or entity, moved a few steps into Hiro's warped chamber, and spreading his arms, showed the distored landscape all around.

_ "Welcome to my world ... the Void ... neither attached to paradise, nor to hell, nor to any other existing dimension ... this is where it all begins and everything ends at the same time time, from the birth of the universe to its end ... here the concepts of time, life and death are non-existent, because in a sense they have not yet appeared or are ceasing to exist ..."

Elsa was more than confused by what he was saying. Was this world the source of both the beginning and the end of everything since the universe was what it is? The idea alone made her dizzy.

_ "But ... what do you want?" Elsa asked, staying a good distance from him.

The Outsider gave a small chuckle between his lips as he strode casually, his hands still behind his back, walking in a very distinguished manner.

_ "No ... the real question to ask is: you, what do you want?" he corrected with a mischievous little smile. "Look at you ... a vestige of a bygone era, now lost and doomed to live in the tireless continuity of the passing of time ... this is the burden that falls on divine beings such as you, me, or Godzilla, chosen by fate to embody the very foundations of existence."

_ "What? You ... are you a god too?" Elsa said then, not really reassured.

_ "Maybe ... maybe not..." he explained, still with that dark touch of mischief in his voice and without saying more.

He suddenly disappeared in a cloud of black sparks, only to reappear just a few seconds right next to Elsa, which surprised her and made her jump in fear.

_ "So, here is the question: what do you want?" he said, bringing his face closer to Elsa's and gently caressing her cheek with the tips of his fingers ... "Go back in time and find your life before? Of course not, that is impossible ... to find again your loved one? Hmmm ... possible ... but that's not all ... you want to find him, but deep down, since you know him, you so boldly desire to unite with him ... but unfortunately for you, he is not of the same race and never will be ... fate is sometimes very cruel ..."

Elsa didn't like at all that amused smile he wore while talking about her and her feelings for Godzilla like that. Frowning, she parted the Outsider's hand, glaring at him.

_ "What we are going through him and I is absolutely none of your business." she asserted. "Now you are going to answer me: what do you want? That I sell you my soul or something like that ...?"

The entity was not at all outraged or intimidated by Elsa's mistrust. On the contrary, it seemed to amuse him gently. Teleporting again, he reappeared, sitting like a lotus on Hiro's bed.

_ "Your soul? Funny. Another concept invented by humans and their beliefs ... I have no intention of doing anything to you ... to tell the truth, I am fascinated above all by the choices and the consequences which result from it ... the least, the smallest of the choices can lead to the most impactful consequences ... since your birth, I have not stopped observing your choices, dear Elsa ... and what I could see amused me a lot..."

_ "Enough with your enigmatic sentences! Tell me what that means!" Elsa lost patience, which made the Outsider chuckle again.

_ "Everything in its time, little goddess ... first the choices, then the consequences ... I can't wait to see what will result ..." he said, then clapped strongly in his hands ... Elsa didn't even have time to react, and everything around her went black in a split second.

Elsa woke up, as if coming out of a bad dream, to find herself lying on Hiro's bed, this time in the perfectly normal bedroom. Night had fallen and Hiro was there, on the other side of the room, sleeping soundly on a mattress on the floor. Baymax was there too, motionless as usual, appearing to watch the entrance to the room, as if to prevent someone from entering.

Elsa did not make a sound and remained a few moments staring at the ceiling above her ... this dimension and this Outsider ... was it still a damn dream? She wanted to be convinced of it, but knew deep down that it was not ...
