There was a darkness in her eyes,
As fathomless as the night,
There was an emptiness in her soul,
As though she'd given up the fight.

Everyone could see it,
But no one cared enough to ask,
What had given her that darkness?
What had happened in her past?

No one could get close to her,
She kept them at arm's length,
She never showed her weakness,
All people saw was strength.

But she couldn't stay strong forever,
Even the strongest people break,
Sometimes she wanted to end it all,
But it was not her life to take.

A boy saw the darkness in her eyes,
And knew she needed him,
She was drowning in her sorrows,
And he wanted to help her swim.

That one person was all it took,
To bring light into her eyes,
It brought her out of the darkness,
It stopped her silent cries.

He knew the pain within her,
As well as he knew his own,
He wanted to take it from her,
Let her know she wasn't alone.

Even as strong as she was,
She needed him more than she knew,
The one thing she didn't realize,
Was that he needed her too.
