Chapter 34
We had all traveled to The Shadowlands for the fight in the early hours of the morning to arrive on time, only I just didn't know where we were going, until I recognized the ruins of an old abandoned castle.
No... surely not here.
"What are we doing here?" I asked Nohr, who looked at me with uneasy eyes.
"It was Titar's call." Nohr said, his hand intertwining in mine. "Don't let it bother you, just ignore it."
Ignore it? How could I ignore it!
"It's just a place, don't let him get to you too, my love."
Not get to me? This place is the reason The Shadowlands is in the state it is- because of this black stain on our history.
The pit of Shadowlands, where Demonia Black would spend most of his childhood days caged alongside Lycan's, as the King... my ancestor used the wolves to fight against each other, for sport.
Titar was a really cunning bastard to hold the fight here, he choose this place on purpose to shove the history into our faces, like he's taunting us...
Not a single member of my family have been here since the downfall of Demonia and his children, we payed the price for the loss in this realm, even today we still live with the grief of the bodies of innocent wolves that have died in the pit.
"It's going to be okay, I promise you." Nohr's sweet words were hard to hear, I believed him but... this place was bad luck...
I also knew my family thought the same, the odds were not in our favor here.
A thought of pure madness, but possibility crosses my mind as I look at Nohr.
It could work... perhaps if he did it, then surely Nohr will survive what is to come next, if he was one of them then he'd have an advantage...
"What is you were a werewolf?" I stared at the ruins as we pass it, my chest clenching tightly.
"Hayden, I-"
"You could win." I felt like crying. "If only I could do it myself, then I wouldn't have to bear this, you could wi-"
Nohr had leaned forward in the carriage and held my head with both hands on either side of me, making me look at him and seeing his face... a sad smile on his lips as he presses his forehead to mine.
"It's impossible." He said quietly, as I put my hand over his, resting on my cheek.
"It's not, if Kane-"
Nohr shakes his head. "I'd do anything to be with you Hayden, but that is just not possible."
"Titan blood is different, even if Kane, Caelan or even your brother bit me, I wouldn't change... my blood will never accept change, I must do this by myself, Hayden." He said strongly, his eyes staring deep into mine.
My heart sunk, just as the carriage stops and someone knocks on the window.
Nohr pulls back the curtain. "We've arrived." The driver announces, before bowing and walking away as I hear others step down from their carriages.
I'm scared, I'm so scared, there must be something more I'm missing, anything- anything at all!
"Daisies."
I raise my head and look at Nohr, confused, what did he just say?
He smiled and grabbed my hand. "They're your favorite, right?" He asked and I nodded my head with a frown, still not knowing what he's talking about.
"I... I heard daisies grow on... my parents graves, when this is all over I want to see them with you, if Titar dies then I can finally go back."
"Would you?." He asked, his hand moving to put a loose strand of hair behind my ear.
Would I... dammit Nohr, I felt my eyes start to tear up as I rubbed my eyes with my hand. "Of course I will..."
I breathe out shakily and smile at Nohr. "You didn't need to ask, I'll go with you anywhere you want me to go."
Satisfied with my awnser, Nohr presses his lips against mine and then opened the carrage door, and once he was out, he held out his hand and helped me down, only then did I see the building that could not nothing else other then the famous pit.
This feeling wouldn't go away, even as we walked up to the very thing that could either make or break my world, it's already broken so many things... I didn't want our bond to be added to the list.
Crossing the old ruined bridge to the pit, I saw that my family were already there, along with hundreds of spectators as I saw them already seated surrounding the fighting pit, that's when my stomach begun to twist and churn.
I think I'm going to be sick...
I watched Nohr get ready as the bag of equipment he was allowed to use is placed flat out on a wooden table, my grandfather with next to him and telling him all the weak spots of Titar he should try and focus on.
"He's going be fine, he's a strong fighter." Harriot said beside me. "Nohr is a true shadow, Hayden, they don't back down nor do they give up... he'll fight Titar and he won't stop until the jobs done, you must believe that."
"Thanks... I know, I'm just trying to process everything." I swallowed hard, my heart beating fast as he straps knives into his boots.
Harriot nodded his head with a sad look in his eyes and a frown on his face before he walked back to Camilla, his mate.
Suddenly a large Titan appeared by the door holding a large weapon and in full Titan armor, he didn't knock or announce his presence, he didn't have to, he stood out as much as my grandfather did with how tall and muscular they were.
"It is time, you have three minutes." He simply said, before walking away towards the entrance to the pit.
The room was spinning out of control and I felt like I couldn't breathe, everything was happening way to fast that I didn't know how to calm myself down, I'd never been in this situation... and I never want to be in it again.
"Hayden?" Nohr's worried voice reaches my ears as I lift my head to him.
He looked ready, he was standing tall in full combat readiness, and in any moment now Nohr will be fighting to the death with a crazed man Titan King... the same King that murdered his parents.
"Let's go." He said, holding my hand in his as he gently tugged me along with him.
My family followed silently behind us as each step we took was one step closer to the horror that was coming, an unavoidable blood bath we'd never witness again in our lifetime.
Once we reached the entrance to the pit, we instantly noticed Titar in the middle of the arena, waiting, watching us with a disturbed smile and crazed look in his eye as he held two large strange daggers in his hands.
He didn't have armor on, he was bare-chested with only trousers of some kind on and a pair of black gloves that made his skin more whiter than it already was,
I looked to Nohr and saw he was unfazed by Titar's appearance, instead he looked down at me with so much affection in his eyes for me, making me relax slightly as I look only at him.
The moment was short lived as the Titan from earlier came and stood in front of us, looking down at Nohr.
"Once the gate is closed a barrier will be activated, I shall repeat what I told King Titar, that there are no rules, you must both fight until one is of you is named victor, only then will the barrier be removed."
Nohr held his head high and nodded his head, then he looked at me with a confident smile and squeezed my hand in his, before releasing me and taking a step forward until he was standing inside of the pit.
N-No, I didn't get to say goodbye. "N-Nohr!" I called out, trying to touch him, but the barrier stopped me from reaching him.
"I-I love you." I shout to him, tears rolling down my eyes. "You'll come back to me, r-right?"
Nohr swallowed hard and pressed his two fingers to his lips and then placed it where my hand was, on the other side of the barrier.
"I will see you again... I love you, my Princess" He smiled, before turning his head away from me and walking to where Titar stood, making me watch in defeat.
The hundreds of people filling the stadium erupted in cheers for Nohr as he stepped closer and closer to Titar, who looked on without a single emotion on his face, still watching him like a wild animal ready to attack at any moment.
"Come, Hayden, let's join the others." My father said, standing next to Kane.
I followed them silent to where my family were, only to see and hear just how excited people were, which felt like a stab to the heart as my eyes found and stayed on Nohr, standing five feet from King Titar.
Suddenly a loud noise, coming from a familiar voice filled the arena, making me almost jump out of my skin.
"I welcome all six realms."
"There are no rules, there must be only one victor, this is a battle to the death." There was a pause, before he opened his mouth again.
"Nok Tira-"
He didn't get to finish speaking as both Titar and Nohr lunged at each other with full force, the loud clang of their swords hitting against each other filled the air as Nohr and Titar begun Nok Tiran.
Nohr then dodges a slash of Titar's dagger only to be hit with the next one as he grunts out in pain, loud enough to reach my ears from the stand, making me hold onto the rails tightly as I watch, helplessly.
Please Nohr... you can do it, you can do this, I believe in you!
Injured, and now bleeding from a stab wound to his chest, Nohr continued unaffected as he blocked attack after attack of Titar's strong and ruthless attacks, that kept coming from all sides.
Nohr didn't wait for Titar to attack him again, when Titar took a step back Nohr lunged at him and disarmed one of his hands from his dagger and then proceeded to stab him in the arm, where the knife lodged in deep enough for Nohr to release his hold on it.
Like two wild animals, they begun circling each other as Titar pulled the dagger from his arm, then throwing the bloody knife to the ground in front of Nohr, a sickening smile making it's way to his mouth.
"You remind me of him." Titar spat out, his eyes filled with rage and madness. "The same disgusting scent... and weak attacks!" He shouted, before making the first move.
The crowd burst into screams as Titar somehow managed to tackle Nohr down to the ground and pin him to the floor as Nohr used every defensive trick in the book to get out of his hold.
I held my breath as I watched on, my moms hand slid in mine as Camilla's held my other hand as we all watched on, praying Nohr gets out of his hold.
Knock him, use your wrist! I wanted to scream to him, but I couldn't speak, I was frozen in shock as I watched my mate battle for his life, struggling to tip Titar off him.
In a wrong movement, Titar had managed to get his hand close to Nohr's face, and then without a single moment to spare, a bloodcurdling scream filled the air as what Titar did next left me faint, if not for my dad, I would've passed out.
Titar had pushed his thumb into Nohr's right eye, his scream filled the air as I felt Nohr's excruciating pain as Titar's face filled with amusement looked down to Nohr, like he was enjoying every single moment of this.
"GET UP NOHR, GET UP!" I screamed, my throat thick with emotion as I felt my stomach churn, threatening to bring up the breakfast I had this morning.
"Aaahh ahh... ARRRGGGHHHHHHHH!!"
Nohr yelled out in pain as Titar tried to push his thumb into his left eye too.
I felt dizzy and sick, there was so much blood I couldn't... I couldn't believe what I was seeing, my dad and Kane kept me up on my feet as I felt the ground move under me, the screams of Nohr filling the stadium as the crowd grows silent.
While Nohr was fighting Titar, Titar had managed to stab him in his thigh and arm while Nohr kept him from pushing his thumb into his left eye.
Nohr had managed to pull Titar's right hand back causing a loud snap to fill the air, making Titar move back until he kneeled on the sand, gripping his hand with burning eyes as he looked at Nohr, unaware that Nohr had taken a knife from his belt, and stabbed Titar in the chest with it.
"You..." Titar's rumbling voice filled the air, as Nohr took a step back, his hand covering his bleeding eye.
Nohr grabbed the nearest weapon, I could tell that he was barely hanging on, he was missing an eye and he had been stabbed to the chest, he was losing too much blood already.
Titar pulled the knife from his chest, which I knew was a good thing for Nohr, because once he pulled the blade out of his chest, he begun bleeding out blood at an alarming rate.
In a split second Titar and Nohr ran into each other and started to fight with a single dagger each, Nohr was blocking every attack, just as Titar was, they were completely matched in ability, making he crowd stay silent as they watched on, almost falling off their seats at the intensity of the fight.
I felt like if I blinked I would miss something, so I watched with my eyes wide and hands clenched as I watch Nohr fight, bloodied, bruised and beaten, but still standing on, giving just as good as Titar was giving.
Nohr had managed to stab Titar in the arm and leg, just as Titar had managed to cut places on Nohr's body, luckily not as deep as Nohr stabbed Titar, then something happens and Nohr falls as he took a step back.
"NO! I yelled out in horror as I watched Nohr fall backwards because of his boot catching on a piece of Nohr's armor that had fallen off during the fight.
Titar jumed on Nohr again, he had whacked the weapon from Nohr's hand and begun to strike him at full strength and force, again and again he hit Nohr as Nohr tried to get his off him again, only to fail, over and over again.
Immediately without warning, I threw up in front of me on the ground as Nohr was starting to look like a corpse, his face no longer how I remembered, but bloodied and beaten in from Titar's assault.
I could hear his fists connecting to Nohr's face and gut as I emptied my stomach as tears streamed down my eyes, I felt hands on my back and the emotions of my family as they looked away in frustration and pain as the sound of fist connecting to flesh filled the air.
It was over...
I could feel him slipping from me...
Nohr was unconscious, and I could feel my whole world falling apart once I raised my head and looked at him, Titar had stopped hitting him and had stood up, he was out of breath from hitting Nohr, but with a smile on his face.
Then his eyes searched the crowd... until they stopped.
He was looking directly at me, and what happened next... I knew this wasn't the end, and more was yet to come.
