Short Story Thing

So, prelude, basically I got the first sentence stuck in my head and had no clue where it came from, then Heavy by Linkin Park came on on my shuffle, and I started typing, and this happened and now it exists. I posted this on Tumblr first because that's what I had open when it decided to be written but it should be here too. Not sure where it came from at all because it's-it's not really based on my own feelings or experiences, it just happened.

She clung to the cold feeling, the icy burning familiar and the sense of dread comforting. It swirled around her, inside of her, gripping her spirit and her mind with the same desperation she felt within. The weight of the freeze pressed down on her shoulders, her back, her happiness. It was agony but she couldn't find the ability to let go.

The cold snapped viciously at the attempts by the warmth to get through. She cried out for the cold to stop. She tried to hold it back but it just grew stronger, exploding at the slightest aggravation. The warmth tried to lift that frigid weight from her, tried to ease the bite of the ice from her mind, but the unfamiliar sensation scared her and she drew back. The cold seeped deeper and deeper and it became harder and harder for the warmth to get through.

But the warmth persisted. She found herself allowing it to stay longer and longer each time it got through. The cold began to grow weak, and the swirling storm began to grow tame. The warmth worked slowly, melting the ice little by little. She still held the cold close, but her grip was looser now. She began to offer the cold to the warmth, allowing it closer. She let the cold in her soul be replaced with the warmth and felt light.

The cold did not like that. It came back over and over, attacking with almost immeasurable force, but the warmth fought back. She felt protected and safe, no longer afraid of harm. She danced with the warmth, laughing as she twirled freely.
