Chapter 23
Fili hurried to Bofur's house. Luckily it was just a few minutes away. He stopped in front of the door to catch his breath. He knocked on the door. Bifur answered.
"Bifur, can I speak with Dalila?"
Bifur said somethings Fili couldn't quite understand then he let Fili in.
"Fili?" Dalila said.
"Dalila, I have news." Fili smiled.
"What is it?" She walked towards him.
"I talked to Uncle, he said we can be married!"
"Oh Fili!" She hugged him.
"But not now. I promised we wouldn't start courting until I'm 80. It seems like a long time but I'll wait forever as long as I know you'll be mine."
"That's great! It's really not that long."
"But first I have to do it right. Bofur, can I court your daughter?" Fili asked him.
"Why of course Laddie! Welcome to the family!" Bofur cheered. Bifur walked in with ale.
"Drink up Laddie. When you're married you have to settle down." Bombur said giving Fili a mug full of ale. Fili drank it with ease with the other men.
"Have you ever had an ale?" Fili asked Dalila.
"No. The Dack's didn't think it was very lady like." She admitted.
"Well you're not a Dack. Drink up." Bofur said handing her a mug. Dalila held it up to her nose and smelled it.
"It smells awful." She cringed.
"Just drink it. It'll taste awful at first but just keep drinking." Fili advised her.
"Ok." She held her nose and drank it. It truly was awful and she wanted to spit it all up and never think of it again but she kept drinking. It burn her throat but she started to like it. She drank it all. She put the mug on the table.
"Well?" Fili asked.
"It's okay. Can I have another?" They laughed and handed her another mug. She drank it with ease.
As the night went on they continued celebrating. The men were slightly tipsy but Dalila was absolutely drunk.
"I better go." Fili said.
"I'll walk you out." Dalila said

Dalila hugged him.
"I waited 34 years for this night." Dalila smiled.
"Was it worth the wait?" Fili asked.
"Yes. I'd do it all again." She kissed him. He put his hand on the small of her back and kissed her. Dalila ran her hand under his shirt.
"Dalila no. You're drunk." He moved her hand.
"So?"
"I want you to remember everything. And we have to wait and do things right."
"Okay. We'll do it right." She hugged him again.
"Goodnight. I'll see you tomorrow and everyday after." Fili told her.
"Goodnight." She went back inside.
Fili walked home happily. He thought about his future with Dalila. He wondered if he would be this happy forever. He hoped so.
But would he? Is the hard part over or has it just begun?
