Chapter Twenty Seven

Where the hell...? Lizz opened her eyes and shook her head a bit, clearing it. She stood from her chair and looked around, "Guys... did it work?"

Kai's eyes opened a bit and he got a good look at everything. He groaned, but probably from being delirious, "It didn't. See? I told you it wouldn't work."

Cole stood up, "Uh... I think it did... Look," he motioned towards Zane.

Zane stood up and walked around a little bit, finally raising his arm to see letters and numbers running over him, "I think this is most definitely the Digiverse."

Jay squealed, "This is most definitely awesome!" he scurried over and bumped his hands on the wall, causing the source code to appear.

Cole walked to the window, looking out at the city, "It's... it's like a dream..."

Lizz looked around, grinning, "This is so weird..."

She laughed when Jay suddenly ran over and socked Cole a good one in the shoulder. Cole, in return, held his shoulder and jumped away from Jay, "Ow! What was that for?!"

Jay shrugged, "Just testing the rules. Rule number one: Cole's a crybaby!"

Zane took a few steps forward, "We know we can still get hurt in the Digiverse," he explained calmly, "Let's stay on task," slowly he reached behind him and pulled the Techno Blade off his back, holding it up as the blade unfolded, "We have the keys," Zane's free hand reached up to pull the bottom half of his mask over his mouth, "Now let's find that activation point."

One by one the others did as he did, pulling up their masks and activating the Techno Blades. Lizz glared at hers. If it wasn't for this damn thing, I'd still have a normal life. However, the more she thought about it the more she didn't want to go back to her other life. She felt included here.

"Okay," Jay put his Blade away, shoving it back on his back, glancing around "How do we get outta here?"

"I don't know," Kai waved his hands, "This isn't my kind of stuff."

"C'mon, airhead," Cole groaned, "Your stuff is escape plans. Think of something."

Lizz raised an eyebrow. Were they always like this? She put her Blade back on her back, too, but left her mask on because it made her feel cool, "Why don't we move around?" she suggested, "Can't think of how to get out if we don't do anything."

"She has a point," Zane put his Blade away, too.

They spread out , looking for ideas, but the elevators wouldn't work and the were on the tippy-top floor of the tallest building ever made. It didn't quite look like they were going anywhere anytime soon.

That is how they got to be standing on a six-inch wide ledge on the outside of the window, courtesy of Lizz, "Lizz!" Cole stressed, "This was a horrible idea!"

"It's not my fault!" she shot back, pressing herself against the wall. They were really high up, "Just because I say something doesn't mean you have to listen!"

Zane waved at them to tell them to shut up, "The source code seems to be moving towards the same location."

"Then let's follow it," Kai suggested angrily.

"Easier said than done," Cole gave Kai a look.

Jay had started grinning again, "Are you forgetting? We're in a video game!" he jumped off the ledge, free falling several stories until he landed on something about a quarter of the way down, "Rule number two: video games rule!"

Kai yelled down to him, "How did you do that?!"

"Just imagine it!" Jay yelled back, cupping his hands around his mouth.

Cole and Zane shrugged at each other and jumped off, Cole flipping twice before falling normally. Kai thought he was the only one up there until he head chewing, causing him to glance to his left, "Lizz?!"

"Hmm?" she hummed.

"I was hungry," she told him, popping a couple of them in her mouth, "In case you have forgotten, I haven't eaten properly since you tried to poison me."

"Why haven't you jumped yet?" he asked, completely ignoring the poison comment.

"I don't want to die right now," Lizz's tone held a hint of sass.

"Will you two just jump already?!" Jay's angry voice echoed.

Lizz sighed heavily and closed her eyes, stretching out her left leg. She began stepping slowly off the ledge to get her mind off the pounding of her pulse in her ears. The entire fall down she didn't open her eyes, just gripped tightly onto her food--while hoping she wasn't going to die--until flat ground was underneath her. Still, she didn't dare look until three voices all said, "Oo, marshmallows!" and the bag in her hand started crinkling.

"Lizz, you can open your eyes," Cole prodded her cheek and she opened her eyes, only to be immediately met with the icy blue eyes of Cole, "See? That wasn't that had, was it."

"Easy for you to say," she mumbled, eating more marshmallows.

"Kai!" Zane yelled, snapping Lizz back to the issue at hand, "Come on!"

Lizz watched as Kai scrunched shut his eyes and concentrated, only to have his head expand to about four times bigger than usual, "Whoa what's happening?!"

Lizz and Cole both coughed up marshmallows laughing so hard, but then they began choking a little so Zane had to come to their rescue. Jay sighed, "You have clear your mind!"

"You're the one that called me an airhead!" Kai snapped, waving his arms to counter-balance his head.

"Ah, no," Cole coughed, standing back up from being doubled over. His face was flushed, "It was me, actually."

Jay groaned, "Stop being so self-conscious and jump!"

Instead of willingly jumping, however, Kai was finally thrown off balance and fell, floating daintily down to the others. He missed the platform they were on, but then floated back up, his head shrinking back to normal as he just hovered there.

Jay waved an arm at him, "See? He is such an airhead."

Cole went to the edge and knelt down, looking to the ground, "Everything is flowing to the bottom of the building."

Lizz knelt too and set her elbow on Cole's shoulder. Kai dropped to his knees beside her, "The ashes of the OverLord..."

"You mean when Lloyd defeated him in the ultimate battle..." Jay looked down too, watching the code flow.

"It must be where the corruption all started," Zane finished.

Seriously, his voice is the best, Lizz thought. To her, Zane's voice was very soothing and it helped calm her nerves a little. Everyone stood back up. Kai nodded once, "We're close.... Let's go," he took one step and the ground beneath his foot rippled into a sinkhole.

"Holy-" Lizz, Cole, Jay and Zane all jumped away from Kai, only to have their own sinkholes form beneath them. Jay groaned, trying to get unstuck, "Who's imagining this?! I can't move my feet!"

"Not me!" Cole shouted, tugging at his feet.

"Me neither!" Zane wriggled around.

"Well don't look at me!" both Lizz and Kai yelled out. They were all almost knee-deep in the Digiverse, now.

There was suddenly a deep, scratchy voice coming from all around them, "You think you can come into my world and get rid of me?!"

The Ninja all looked up to find a pair of red-purple eyes glaring down on them from the sky of the Digicity. Zane grunted, stretching out to try to reach a nearby grappling arm, "I can't get out! I can't reach it!"

"Maybe it's because we're waist deep in the Digiverse!" Lizz yelled.

Jay braced his arms on the solid ground around him, "I have a sinking feeling this is it guys!"

A/N: Cliffhanger!!

I'm having legit issues, though. Like, wtf do I do if they get out of the Digiverse? Do I have another issue at hand or do I end it with, like, thirty chapters in the book?

If they get out, anyway, like, at this rate I'm pretty sure the OverLord is gonna kill 'em and that'll be that.
