Chapter Four
"At least we don't have to worry about the Serpentine anymore," Kai sighed, rubbing his temples, "With the OverLord and Pythor still on the loose, it's a wonder why we're running a bit shorthanded."
"So, you think that girl we saw today is your sister?" Jay asked, eyeing up Lloyd, "We have to go tell Sensei, so, if she is, she doesn't get kidnapped by Nindroids."
"I'm not sure, no," Lloyd snapped lightly, "I don't know what she looks like and I haven't seen her in, like, three years. Last time I remember her she was standing behind me in the yard of Darkley's Boarding School For Bad Boys. I literally forgot about her until you brought her up again," he finished, eyeing up Kai's red figure like it was his fault.
"Don't look at me like that," Kai commanded, "It's not my fault she was-" he paused, "What exactly happened to her?"
Lloyd shrugged, "I don't know! I turned around and she wasn't there anymore. After I got kicked out of the school I was busy kind of being kidnapped by Serpentine and OverLords and Ninja to be bothered by a forgotten memory."
"What are you talking about in here?" Cole slid open the door and slid it back shut behind him.
"Lloyd's secret sister," Jay blurted, earning a slap on the shoulder from Kai.
"We don't know if she's his sister, for all we know the OverLord could have cloned his DNA into a female and could be using her to lure us into New NinjaGo City again," Kai explained to Cole, "But in my defense, she looks like his entire family. Misako, Sensei and Lloyd."
"Why didn't you take a picture of her?" Jay asked.
Cole sighed, "Yeah, that's smart. 'Hey, I just met you, but you look like my friends. Can I have a picture to show them in case you're related to them? Thanks, you're a real doll.' Real smart, Jay."
"How come, in that situation, I sound like a teenage girl with nasal issues?" Kai asked.
Cole grinned, "It's how you normally sound."
"Would you both shut up," Jay sighed, "We were just having a serious conversation. Someone's life could be at risk, here."
"Jay's got a point," Cole nodded, "But even if we would get her, where would we get her from? We don't even know her name."
Jay raised a hand, "I asked for her name. She snarled like she was going to rip my head off and said she wasn't telling."
"Why'd she do that?" Lloyd asked, leaning against the wall.
"I almost ran her over."
"Well yeah! That's probably why she wanted to rip off your head!" Kai pointed out, "I'd want to do that too if you almost ran me over!"
Nya walked in behind Cole, "Why is Jay trying to run you over?"
"He's not, we're just discussing someone Kai saw in the City today during the battle with the Nindroids," Cole explained.
"Seems legit," Nya shrugged, "Sensei suggests going to bed now because you're keeping him up," she trailed off with a small grin, "Good night."
After five more minutes of arguing, the three agreed to hit the hay and continue this in the morning.
.*.⚞.*.⚟.*.
"Kai would you get up already?!" Cole shook him by his shoulders, "It's your turn to cook breakfast and we're hungry!"
With a groan, Kai pulled himself out of bed, grumbling angrily at his harsh awakening as he walked towards the kitchen, rubbing the sleep from his eyes.
Yawning, he pulled out the ingredients to make pancakes and got to work. Within ten minutes he had enough for everyone, flipped them on a plate and set them on the table. One by one, the rest filed into the room, sitting at the table. Only Sensei Wu, Misako, Sensei Garmadon and Nya were the ones awake.
Everyone began eating, piling pancakes on their plates and talking up little conversations about today's agenda.
Kai rubbed his eyes once again, jumping when Misako's feathery voice was directly beside his ear, "Is something bothering you, Kai?" she asked, worriedly, chuckling afterwards, "Sorry, I didn't mean to scare you there."
Yes. He shook his head, hating to lie to such a kind and loving woman, "No." Why couldn't you just tell her? he scolded himself as he took another small bite of his food, She's like the mother you never had, and she loves you like a son.
I'll tell her later, when we're alone, he told himself, She can keep secrets. I know she can.
She nodded a little bit, but didn't say anything as she went back to eating.
Kai ran a hand through his hair, sitting on the couch with a grunt as he plugged a random movie into the DVD player. A couple moments into the movie the other end of the couch sagged down, causing Kai's attention to be averted to the young lady beside him. He'd never really gotten a chance to look at Misako in her entirety. Her light grey hair had a white streak in it, and was always pulled back into a braid. Her hair matched with her glasses and gave her the 'I'm an archaeologist' look.
He smiled warmly at her, "Hi."
She smiled back, getting comfy on the couch, "Is something wrong?"
He sighed, sitting forward with his elbows on his knees, hands folded and head turned towards the floor, "Misako, I need to talk to you about something. . . . Someone, actually."
"Go right ahead, Kai," she leaned closer to him, "I'm listening."
"Y-Jus-," he took a deep sigh, "It's about your-"
"Daughter," Misako finished, "Lloyd was asking about her, too, after dinner. What about her?"
"I saw her today," he looked at Misako's kind face, that was now laced with a worried frown, "She was. . . . In the city. On top of a building, actually."
"That's not possible, Kai," she whispered, "My daughter hasn't been seen for three years. No one has any trace of her."
"I thought Lloyd was an only child," Kai wanted this cleared up before continuing on that branch of the conversation.
"He isn't," she sighed, , leaning forward like Kai, "He just never remembered the sister he had for six years."
"Wow," was all Kai could say. Being a Ninja with a sister, he couldn't even imagine life without Nya.
"And when I left Lloyd at Darkley's I left her with him, thinking they'd keep her and turn her evil, or something, with the boys there, but she must have wandered off. Being a three year old I'm sure she'd gotten distracted by something," Misako explained, "Lloyd forgot about her, I thought she was there when in reality we don't know where she was. I thought she was. . . . . " she paused, then looked at Kai, "How do you know she's my daughter?"
"The girl we saw today. . . . Well, Jay saw the most of her," he chuckled a bit, "She jumped on him by accident. But, to me she resembled you, and Lloyd and Sensei Garmadon. It seems crazy, I know."
"It very well could have been her, I suppose," Misako stood up and smiled, "I think it's best you get to bed, Kai. It is getting pretty late."
"Wait," Kai jumped up, making Misako freeze with her hand on the half open door, "What's her name?"
She looked back at him, "Lizz Carmabelle Garmadon."
