Chapter 15 When they look you in the eye and lie

Chapter 15: When they look you in the eye and lie

Emery's POV

This has to be a joke, right? He didn't just say my name right now. I can already see people craning their necks up to see if they can find out who Emery Denton is, including Delilah.

"What're you doing Em, go up there," she encouraged. There is no way in hell! I look up from her face nervously to see Raiden pulling out his chair with a knowing smirk. A smirk that says, he knows I'm here. He slowly puts one foot on the chair, getting ready to stand on it, to look for me.

I've got to get out of here.

"Cover for me, Mack." With that said I slip off the bar stool and shimmy my way around all the curious people. Almost there, I thought when the door was just a few feet away. That was before Duncan spotted me, grabbed my shoulders, and yelled, "I found her!"

Raiden eyes fell upon me and smiled. Not the genuine kind, more like the evil kind. While Duncan was pushing me towards hell, I looked over at Delilah, she had finally recognized me. Her eyes grew wide, her smile was no longer intact, and her face grew redder than her dress.

Raiden stepped down from the chair, walked towards Duncan and I, and grabbed my shoulder roughly. "I'll take it from here, thanks Duncan," Duncan saluted and took his seat at the table.

I was forced to sit in that chair right next to him. Once my behind hit the chair, everyone resumed their conversing while eating dinner. I sat there awkwardly, still not knowing why I was called up here by Raiden. From the corner of my eye, I saw Harley elbow Delilah for glaring at me, she then put on her fake smile at looked right at me. "So you must be the famous Emery Denton that I've heard so much about." She forced a giggle.

I nodded discreetly while she placed her hand out. She wanted, the redhead split ends girl, to shake hands with me? "Excuse my rudeness, I'm Delilah Davis," she concluded. By the way she's faking her politeness, I'd say she lived with very mature and wealthy parents. Wait....Davis.

I swear I've heard that last name before. It sounds very familiar to me, I know I've spent a while seeing that name. I just don't know where from. I shook my head forgetting about it, usually when I forget something I always remember a while later. I snap out of my trance when Raiden elbowed me in the ribs. I hold my side as I gaped towards him. What does he want now? I look to my right to see Delilah is still there waiting for me to shake her hand.

"Nice to meet you Delilah," I faked a smile dismissing her hand as I grab a knife and fork to cut my steak. Unlike her I wasn't raised to fake my politeness. She gaped at me as she tucked her hand under the table. Everyone at the table, annoyed with the awkward silence, start to converse with one another once again.

I successfully place a piece of steak in my mouth while someone nudges me in the knee under the table. I look to my left to see Pierce sitting right next to me. "Weren't you just on the other side of the table?" I asked him knowing he was sitting next to Harley.

"I had to make some deals and exchange seats with some people to sit right here," he explained. "Even though you left me all alone," he accused. "I won't do the same to you," he finished off.

Raiden's POV

"Baby, you work too hard, just relax for once," Delilah whined while rubbing my shoulders. "I'm working Delilah, it would be nice if you left me alone," I stated harshly. I'm so close to finding out what happened to Emery in those photos R.W. sent me.

"Now that your birthday gala is over, you come straight to your office?" Of course I came straight here, after seeing Emery tonight, I knew she would never tell me what really happened to her.

"Surprising, isn't it?" I questioned sarcastically. I looked up to see Harley in the door way, "What have I said about knocking?" I raised my eyebrow to Harley. "That I should do it, but anyway, Delilah would you like to help me wrap up the desserts, so I can place them in the fridge?" She asked. "That's what Emery's for," I stated, still not taking my eyes off of the computer.

"It's fine Raiden, at least I'll be doing something then just sitting here," I tuned out the rest of their conversation when I found something on the computer. I looked up to make sure I was alone, which I was.

It was a news report about two missing teenaged girls. There wasn't a picture so I decided to read the article.

The missing teens case solved!
Written report by: Jackie Harris

October 2nd of 2013, two teenaged girls were out late at night, partying at a country nightclub when they got captured by their captor for two whole months. Now on December 6th of 2013, a morning jogger had found a crying girl coddling another girl who had seemed to be unconscious from all the blood loss. They were later identified as the two missing girls that were kidnapped on the night of October 2nd, Emery Denton and Farah Kennedy. An ambulance was brought to them, mostly for the unconscious girl, Farah Kennedy with a severe stab wound. Denton was later brought down to the police station for questioning about the whereabouts of their captor. Denton later on revealed that he was no longer alive for she shot him so that they were able to escape. The detectives that were on this case in finding the missing girls concluded that it was self defense for the girls survival. Detective Robinson had later on found the dead body of their captor, which was soon identified as Kenneth Wallingford.

I stopped reading when I heard the bas**** name. If he's dead that means he can't be R.W., but his last name Wallingford fits in with the W part. Can it be a family member trying to get revenge on Emery killing that man? Wait, Emery killed a man. Now all the pieces fit together. The dream, the gun being fired, the photos. I picked up the phone and dialed a number.

"Drake, find Emery and bring her to my office now!" I shouted into the phone while hanging up. I opened my bottom desk drawer and pulled out a plastic bag with the gun inside. With what I read about Emery's perfect life up until her parents died, I would've never guessed that she was held hostage by a perverted a**hole.

That explains Emery's dream where she was begging not to kill her, she must've meant Farah. Emery still doesn't know I have her pictures which are signed by R.W. Maybe she knows who this person is so I can end all of this.

My head whipped up when the door suddenly opened loudly. Turns out there's two people in this house who doesn't know how to knock. Emery stood there with her hair in a low ponytail, all her makeup off which shows her natural beauty. She's wearing a sky blue v-neck shirt with black sweatpants. At the gala I'd admit she did look hot, but now she looks like a pure innocent kitten who had just woken up. I secretly hid the gun back into the drawer before she noticed.

"For now what do I owe the pleasure of you waking me up!" She screamed like a feisty tiger. "Now, now Emmy, I didn't wake you up harshly, don't get all feisty with me." Emmy, where did that nickname come from? I actually like it, in fact that's her new name, for only me to use. I smirk, thinking about the deal I had just persuaded myself in.

"You're right, you didn't wake me up! Drake did, by flipping my freaking mattress over!" She shouted, I should've ordered Drake to do worse.
"Then I'll be sure to thank him with a day off," I suggested to myself. Normally I don't fight, make deals, or suggest things to myself, I'll let this one pass for my birthday.

I walk over to my wine table as I contemplate on which one to drink, I run my fingers across the wine bottles as I choose a random one to the left. I grab the tip of the bottle and throw it upwards, I swiftly catch it and read the label, Chardonnay.

Perfect.

Already half empty, I twist the cork open and pour a small amount into my glass. I can tell from the corner of my eye, that Emery was getting impatient. She tapped her bare feet rapidly on the wooden floor while her arms are folded tightly on her chest. She looks around the room while waiting for me to speak.

I take one swig of my drink and swallow it, feeling a slight burn. I once again grab the wine bottle and refill my glass, leaving it on the table as I take my finger and circle around the rim of the glass.

"Who's Farah Kennedy?" I asked, dead serious. Her foot stopped tapping, her arms unfolded as she stood up straight and looked me straight in the eye. "I have absolutely no idea who she is," she lied while looking me straight in the eye. I can't take it when someone does that.

When they look you in the eye and lie.

That means they can lie without being caught right then and there, most people can't do that. They can't look someone in the eye and lie that easily. Unfortunately, Emery can. If I didn't read that article, I would've actually believed her. I wonder how long she has done this to me before?

"Really? So you don't know Farah, the girl that got stabbed by the same man you shot?" I questioned, cocking my head to the side. I smirked, knowing I got her there when she looked panicked. "Okay, fine you got me! You know I was kidnapped, who cares, it was 3 years ago." She sighed. I walk closer to her, looking at her eyes. The fact is, she was kidnapped for two months, but I can tell it felt a lot longer to her.

"That didn't answer my question, Emmy," I teased. "Who is Farah Kennedy? And why were you at a country night club with her?"

She rubbed her eyes as she started, knowing she wouldn't get any sleep if she doesn't tell me. "Farah is my childhood friend, we were celebrating her birthday," she explained. "And where is this Farah now?" I asked, knowing this might be the last time I'll be able to get Emery to talk about her past. "She's in college," she simply replied. "And you're not because?"

"Well, um let's see! I took a break when my parents died, I didn't have the money anymore, and...oh yeah, I got kidnapped for the second time!" She yelled. I placed my glass down and asked her the question I've been preparing to ask since I called her in.

"Do you know the initials R.W.?" I questioned. "No, why?" She replied. I chose to believe her, not wanting to contemplate whether I should or not.

I walked over to my desk, placing the drink down as I grab the photos from my desk and handed them to her. Her eyes widened as she saw the first photo,  she looked in the front and back of each photo and saw what I was talking about. "Where'd you get these?!" She asked shocked. "They were mailed to me, don't know who sent them though," I reply. "It has to be Kenneth Wallingford then," she decided.

"Actually, I've been running it through my head and it just doesn't make sense that he would do this. First of all, he's dead, he couldn't have mailed these. Second of all, it wouldn't make sense to send them, I mean what could he accomplish from that, blackmail? I didn't even know you existed back then," I share my reasons to her.

"Okay, but I don't know anyone with those initials, and who else would do this if it wasn't Kenneth?" She was curious. She didn't know I already had someone in mind.

"We don't have to know anyone with those initials, they could be using a fake name. As for your second question, it could just be a relative trying to get revenge for you killing the guy," I shrugged. "But Kenneth didn't have any family, he's a loner!" She blurted.

"A fake name changes all that, a fake name hides your identity," I tried reasoning with her. She looked at me as I drunk the rest of the Chardonnay, figuring something out.

"You have someone in mind, don't you?" She questioned, figuring out why I wasn't thinking it was Kenneth Wallingford. "Okay, come out with it! Who do you think R.W is?" She pushed. I lay the glass down again, refilling it. I looked up at her while taking another swig of the drink, I wiped my mouth with my sleeve as I came out with it.

"I think it's Keith Daniels."

Hello my fellow readers!
I know I'm annoying by changing some details about the book. Well, I changed another teeny tiny detail.

I renamed the town Blackdale Valley, so if you see that as the towns name now, you don't have to be surprised. Anyway I know I like the name better than the old one.

I finally came up with an idea for the ending. So the rest of these chapters will be filler chapters with some clues as to who R.W. might be. I just can't wait to reveal the ending part!

I am planning at least 30-35 chapters plus an epilogue, so 15-20 more chapters to go!

I am writing this late at night so I know there are mistakes, trust me I'll fix them later when I get enough rest, forgive me.

Hope you like the attached song!

I hope all of you guys are having the best summer vacation ever!

💕Izzy💕
