"Wakey, wakey," a sinister voice said, tapping my cheek.
I winced from the touch and tried to open my eyes. I could only open one eye to a crack and tried to breathe.
Eden's scummy ex smiled at me while leaning to my eye level. "I wouldn't want you to miss all the action while taking a siesta. There will be enough time for you to sleep permanently."
"Nash will find me, and you'll be on your knees praying for a quick death."
"I'm counting on Nashville finding me. I can't wait to end him once and for all." He smirked.
I gathered phlegm from my throat and spit the mixture of phlegm and blood at his face. He winced, wiping it from his face before landing his palm across my cheek. My head whipped to the side from the force.
The asshole stood erect and glared at me. "You will pay for that action when I burn you from the inside out and make you suffer a thousand painful deaths."
I glowered at the schmuck until I heard someone gasp for air. My eyes darted to the person across from me. I furrowed my eyes when I saw Eden tied to a chair, looking like a truck smacked into her a hundred times.
"Oh, do you like my handy work? It's one of my best works." He smiled with glee.
Eden gasped for air while looking broken.
He walked over to her, grabbed a fistful of hair, and yanked her head back. "Nashville should hurry. Your little friend has limited time before she succumbs to her injuries. Don't you think?"
Nash, hurry.

Emilio searched around the campus, trying to locate this thing. If he doesn't hurry his ass up, he'll need Nix to give him last rites.
I pulled Mags's locket from my pocket and glanced at it. Where are you, Mags? The blood-covered locket didn't gleam but stayed silent. I curled my hand around it, hoping for a sign.
A guy walked up to me, stopping the others. "You need to hurry."
"What?" I asked.
"You need to go." With that, the guy walked past me.
We exchanged glances and kept walking.
A girl approached me and stopped. "Your heart is hurting."
"What?"
"Follow your heart." The girl walked past us.
"What the hell is this bullshit?" Nathan asked.
"I don't know." I shook my head.
We kept walking until another guy stopped me. "Follow the signs. They will lead to your destiny." He walked away before I could say anything.
"Keep moving. He's sending help," a voice whispered.
My feet picked up the pace until I broke out into a run.
"Nash!" The others yelled from behind me.
I felt a vibration in my hand, opened it, and glanced to see the locket glowing brightly. My heart stuttered in my chest as I ran toward a building. The ache grew each minute until I reached the door, and rage exploded inside me. I ripped the metal door off its hinges and entered to find Mags tied to a chair with her face swollen and one eye closed. I scanned the area to see Eden tied to another chair, looking like she went several rounds with a truck.
"Ah, Nashville. I was wondering when you would join the party," a sinister voice said.
I narrowed my eyes to a slit.
He approached Mags, grabbed her hair, and yanked her head back. "I expected better from this one. Such a disappointment with the lack of fight." His tongue darted from his lips and slid across her cheek before he smiled at me. "Did you like my handiwork? I bet you enjoyed what I did to your family. Was it your grandson or father? I tend to get confused with your history." His lips curled into a sickening smile.
Rage built inside me as my body vibrated and my fists clenched and unclenched.
"Nash, there's no soul!" Emilio shouted from behind me.
"It's a loophole, Nash!" Nix yelled.
"Send the fucker back to hell, Nash!" Nathan yelled.
"Enough!" This thing barked before flinging his hand, pinning the others against the wall, and sealing their mouths shut. "You're giving me a fucking headache with your yelling." He looked under his lashes and smirked. "Let's dance, Nashville."
"With pleasure," I said, moving toward him.
"Protection and love with aid you," a voice whispered.
Protection and love. I glanced at the necklace before dropping it into my pocket. With quick movements, I dodged his hits and slammed my fist into his face. He stumbled backward as I converged on him and slammed my fist into his face again. Energy exploded from around me as my temper exploded like a volcano.
Eden's ex tried to get to his feet as I kept hitting him repeatedly. Energy surged through me as I unleashed my fury. I grabbed his arm, moved behind him, and ripped it from its socket. He released a high-pitched screech before slamming the sole of my boot into his back, crushing his spine. The body jerked in my grasp while I delivered his punishment. He wanted to inflict pain on my heart. I will rip him to shreds.
I hauled off and slammed the toe of my boot into him repeatedly until connecting with his face. His head snapped back as blood poured from his nose and mouth. I grabbed his throat, lifted the broken body from the floor, and yanked his face to mine. "You made a terrible choice going after my family and heart."
The thing opened its mouth and gasped. I plunged my fist into its chest and grabbed it. Its face distorted as a screech erupted from its mouth. I released an obscene amount of energy while it thrashed around in my hold and squeezed until it exploded into pieces, hitting us with blood and body pieces.
The others dropped to the ground once I destroyed this thing. I didn't bother to wipe the remnants from my face and rushed to Mags. I crouched before her and untied her wrists and feet. "Mags."
"Nash, you need to help Eden," Mags said.
"I will, baby girl." I cupped her face and checked her injuries.
"Nash." Mags fell forward into my arms.
I caught her, slipped my arms under her, and lifted her into my arms. Aiden was already helping Eden and carrying her in his arms. The girls needed medical attention. We didn't know how much damage this thing inflicted on them.

My head rested against a hard, soft surface while I moved. The last thing I remembered was seeing Nash. He came for me.
I kept moving, but I wasn't walking. My head felt like it wanted to explode.
"Mags, stay with me," Nash said from far away.
"I'm so tired," I mumbled.
"Mags, don't go to sleep. Stay with me, baby girl."
"Keep talking to her, Nash," Nixon said.
Nash kept talking, but I needed to sleep. I let the darkness engulf me.

"Mags?" I asked but didn't get a response. "Stay with me, baby girl." I jostled her slightly to wake her while running toward the house.
Once we reached the house, I put Mags in my vehicle and climbed into the backseat while Nix and Noah got into the front passenger seat with Nix behind the wheel.
"Go!" I ordered.
Nix backed out of the driveway and headed to the hospital while I hovered over Mags in the backseat, trying to wake her.
"Stay awake, baby girl," I said, trying to rouse her. "Mags isn't waking up. Drive faster!"
Nix pressed the accelerator as the Bluetooth rang in the car. Noah answered it.
"We're right behind you with Aiden and Eden," Nathan said.
"How's Eden doing?" Nix asked.
"Not good. Her pulse is weak. Aiden is trying to keep her breathing."
"Shit," Aiden said.
"What shit? No shit. What's happening, Aiden?"
"Come on, Eden."
"Fuck!"
"What's going on?" Noah asked.
"Aiden is performing CPR on Eden. She quit breathing."
Nix and I exchanged glances through the rearview mirror. Nix nodded and floored the SUV until he flew me to the hospital's parking lot, up to the ER doors. Nathan skidded to a stop behind us. Nolan and Noah rushed into the hospital and returned with nurses, doctors, and two gurneys. Aiden and I pulled the girls out and placed them on the beds. The medical staff rushed them inside through two sets of doors.
We tried to go with them, but a nurse stopped us since we weren't family. Like hell, we weren't family. Nix and Diego stopped Aiden and me from losing our shit with the hospital staff.
"We need to contact a family member of the two victims," the nurse said.
"We'll contact them," Nix said.
The nurse opened her mouth to argue, but Nix shook his head to stop her.
I pulled out my phone and called Dad. I couldn't talk to West or Raymond right now since they would ask questions I wasn't prepared to answer.
My dad answered after the second ring. "Hello?"
"I need you to contact West and Raymond."
"What? Why?"
"Misty and Eden are in the hospital."
"What?"
"Eden's ex took them and beat the hell out of them. Eden stopped breathing in the car."
"Shit."
"I'll explain when you get here."
"Tino, tell me you took care of that bastard."
"Wayne is no longer a threat to anyone, Dad."
"I'll see you in a few hours." My dad ended the call.
I stumbled to a chair, collapsed in it, and passed out. I felt so drained from expending so much energy.
