Chapter 9: The Red Piano and the Ghost

Stella's POV.

"I don't thing your brother's very fond of me," She said as we walked along one of my favorite beaches in Cornwall, UK.

"It's not you. It's our relationship. He doesn't think vampires should be consorting with humans for more than blood or sex," I replied.

She was unusually quiet, looking down at her feet as she walked.

"Don't let it get to you. He'll lighten up eventually," I said with a reassuring smile, lifting her chin up with my hand so she would look at me.

Her eyes were sad. "What do you think will become of us, Stelly? When I grow old and you remain young forever. You won't want to be with me then."

"I'll want to be with you forever."

"Then why don't you turn me? Now."

"I don't want this life for you. Maybe some time in the future, but for now you're still young enough to hold on for a couple more years."

She sighed, "I don't want to wait, Stella. I want to be like you. I'm sure of it."

I gave her a sad smile and ran my hand across her cheek, "I know you are, honey, and I know that's the only way we can be together forever, but I'm not ready yet. Let's give it some time."

"If that's what makes you happy then I'll wait," She said, but something about her was off.

She didn't sound like she meant those words, but I had never been able to read her thoughts with Jace's ability, so I just dismissed it. She was a mistery to me. The only human whose head I couldn't get into. But she was a siren, of course, so it must have had something to do with her ability, which for some reason I couldn't figure out either.

I gave her a peck on the lips, "You're what makes me happy."

She chuckled and held me close to deepen the kiss, but a few seconds into the kiss I heard a threatening growl echoing from behind her, so in one quick move, I stepped in between her and the attacker, only to realize that we were surrounded.

I felt her hold on to me from behind. "Wh-what's goin on, Stella?" She said in a shaky voice.

I could feel my senses getting sharper, I was on edge. Suddenly I had hawk-like vision and I knew the irises of my eyes had already turned pitch black, "They're rogues. But stay calm, I'll take care of them. Stay close to me, love."

One of the rogues stepped forward, he was shirtless and in very good shape, probably stuck in his mid-twenties, at the peak of his life.
Rogues were usually like that because the leader of each rebel group would pick the healthiest, most promising humans and offer them eternal life. They usually accepted and what they weren't told was that if they didn't, they'd be turned into a meal.

This particular one had long black hair, a wild look in his eyes, a tattoo of a snake on his arm, and another one that read Anarchy in an elaborate cursive font across his chest. I could tell by his overall body language and the energy that emanated from him that he was a young vampire, a newborn.

He stared at us with a look of pure wild vampire thirst, "Well, what do we have here? Her majesty brought us a tasty little treat. A siren, no more... we couldn't have asked for better."

I snarled ferociously, "Stay away from her."

Another one of them stepped forward. He had gray hair which was almost white, but not like an old man, it had a silky silver hue, and he still looked like a teenage boy. He was also eerily good looking, as if he were a young fallen angel. For some reason, he reminded me of the fictional Lucifer from the Bible, and his body language told me that he was probably the leader,  "Why Miss Trueblood, what happened to sharing? We're your comrades, while that there," He gestured toward the girl behind me, "is a filthy little human."

"You are not my comrades. You're nothing of mine. You're just the lowest possible form of scum, now scram before I tear you to pieces," I said with a snarl.

The silver haired boy chuckled, "What a hostile attitude you have, my friend. I guess we'll have to take the siren by force. You leave us no choice."

The rogues had formed a circle around me, and were now stepping forward cautiously, with wild, hungry looks on their faces and eyes dark as coal. Before I could do anything to attack or defend myself, the silver haired boy was standing in front of me, giving me a wicked smile.

"Good night, sweet princess," he whispered.

His familiar grey eyes were the last thing I saw before everything turned white, and I was out cold.

By the time I woke up, the rogues were gone, and they were too far away to track by scent. I didn't know how long I had been unconscious, but it was already morning and it had been early in the night when I last saw them. I struggled to stand to my feet, and a dreaded, ominous feeling took over my gut.

My eyes started watering then.

"Natalie!" I screamed out, but there was no answer.

"No, no, no." I said to myself, "Natalie, please!"

No answer.

I then noticed a shape in the distance, a dark lump in the sand. I ran over to it, only to realize it was a human body.

It was Natalie's human body.

I tried to think positively, they would want her to be alive, she's a siren, maybe it's just a female rogue that got killed in the process. It was possible, rogues tended to be very agressive and were known to be capable to kill one of their own over a siren's blood, but as my vision cleared, I realized that this wasn't the case.

I started sobbing as I kneeled beside her. There was a bloody gash in her throat, and bite marks all over her arms. Her small, now very pale body was drained of blood, and I remember that it didn't surprise me that they had drained her instead of turning her because it is very hard to stop drinking a siren's blood once you taste it.

Knowing she was dead, I still shook her by the shoulder and cried out to her, "Natalie, wake up. Please, wake up."

I grabbed her and held her close to me, stroking her straight, brown hair and rocking her back and forth like a baby, "Natalie, please... please, don't leave me."

I grabbed hold of her wrist, but there was no pulse.

Sobbing uncontrollably, I said "Natalie... please... wake up... I love you... I love you so much."

But there was no response, my Natalie was gone. I lied down on the sand, holding her body close to mine, the way we used to sleep together, and I must have cried myself to sleep, because by the time I woke up, her body had mystriously disappeared. The love of my life was gone, and all that was left to assure me that the whole thing had happened were the stains of blood in the sand, in my arms and my shirt.

Then I heard my name being called out.

"Natalie?" I said as I looked around helplessly.

"Stella!"

"Natalie? Where are you?"

"Stella, wake up!"

It was then that I realized I had been dreaming, because in reality no one had called my name after I lost Natalie. I had simply passed out and woken up in the castle as a completely different person, a heartless tyrant.

"Wake up, you sleepyheaded vampire!"

I opened my eyes to find Annabelle frowning at me.

"If I hadn't known better, I would have thought you were dead," she said.

"Technically, I am dead. According to books and such," I replied as I lifted myself into a sitting position.

"You're undead. Like a zombie. Now come downstairs, my mom made breakfast for us."

I unconsciously grimaced at the though of human food.

"Don't make that face. My mom's cooking isn't that bad. Plus I've seen you eat human food before."

"I'd rather eat something else."

"Well too bad, I'm not giving you any blood right now."

"I didn't mean that," I said with a smirk as I looked at the spot between her legs and winked at her.

She gasped and her mouth formed an 'o' shape as a blush crept into her cheeks, "You pervert!"

"That's not what you said last time I ate that."

I started imitating her moaning my name.

"Stella! Shut up! My mom might hear you!"

I chuckled, and cried out "Uhhhhm! Stella! Don't stop! Right there, baby! Oh Ella I'm gonna cu--"

She shut me up with a kiss and then she pulled back and said, "I do not sound like that!"

"Yes you do."

She grunted and said, "You're an idiot. Now come on, let's go downstairs before my mom comes looking for us."

Anna's POV.

When I woke up, Stella was still out cold. I wondered what was making her sleep so much, she was usually a light sleeper and she'd wake up before me back at the castle, but that was before whatever happened to her in the woods. I figured she was still tired from the accident but still called her name to see if she'd wake. Since there was no reply, I put my favorite hoodie on and went downstairs to see what my mom was up to.

I could hear the tv on downstairs.

"Good morning honey." She said from the kitchen, "I'm making your favorite pancakes and I hope you friend likes chocolate chip pancakes too."

"Everybody like chocolate chip pancakes, especially yours, and if they don't, they're freaks of nature."

She grinned, "Thanks honey... I've missed you. Where is your friend anyway? Is she still sleeping?"

I nodded.

"It must be jet lag, but you should wake her up so her internal clock gets used to the time here. Go tell her I made breakfast."

"Okay, mom." I said as I grabbed one of the whipped cream covered strawberries she put on top of the pancakes and ate it.

Then I practically ran up the stairs and was about to start jumping on the bed to wake her, when I noticed that Stella looked like she was in pain, so I knelt beside her and called out her name, "Stella?"

She didn't seem to have heard me so I shook her gently by the shoulder, but she was still out cold. I stared at her for a few seconds until I noticed a tear stream down her face and heard her soft whimpers.

Then I got really worried, I didn't want her to have one of those nightmares again, I had to wake her up.

"Stella!" I cried out.

I shook her shoulder, "Stella, wake up!"

I noticed her stirring so I quickly changed my tone of worry to a more upbeat, "Wake up you sleepyheaded vampire!"

She looked up at me with confusion in her silvery blue eyes so I said, "If I hadn't known better, I would have thought you were dead."

"Technically, I am dead. According to books and such," She said as she lifted herself into a sitting position, which seemed to give her some trouble, she must have still been weak.

I smirked at her, "You're undead. Like a zombie. Now come downstairs, my mom made breakfast for us."

Stella grimaced automatically so I added, "Don't make that face. My mom's cooking isn't that bad. Plus I've seen you eat human food before."

"I'd rather eat something else."

"Well too bad, I'm not giving you any blood right now."

"I didn't mean that." She said with a smirk as she looked at the spot between my legs and winked at me.

I mock gasped and felt my cheeks burn, "You pervert!"

She gave me the cheekiest grin and then said, "That's not what you said last time I ate that."

Then she started mockingly imitating me moaning her name.

I bit back the urge to laugh, "Stella! Shut up! My mom might hear you!"

But she just chuckled, and started crying out very loudly and in an annoying tone of voice, "Uhhhhm! Stella! Don't stop! Right there, baby! Oh, Ella I'm gonna cu--"

I was not about to let her finish that sentence so I shut her up with a kiss and then pulled back and said, "I do not sound like that!"

"Yes you do."

With a grunt, I replied, "You're an idiot. Now come on, let's go downstairs before my mom comes looking for us."

About half an hour later we were snugglling in my bed watching a movie. Stella was resting her head on my shoulder as I stroked her hair with one hand and texted Angie with the other.

My phone vibrated, "Liquid 2nite?" Texted Angie.

"I don't know Ang, I want to spend some time alone with Tessa."

Her reply was quick and very Angie-like, "Oooooh! Sexytime?"

"Angie!"

"Sexytimeeee! With the hot girlfriend ;)"

" -.- "

"Alright, alright. I'll leave you alone for today. Are you planning on doing something special for her? Ask Gabbie to let you borrow her room with the grand piano and show her your skillz."

"Not bad, Ang. I'll ask her. Ttyl."

"Bye bye whore"

I chuckled.

Stella looked up at me. "What's so funny babe?"

"Nothing. Angie just being Angie."

"Oh. Are you sure you don't want to spend some time with your friends today?" She said softly. Her eyes pleading for me to say yes.

"Yes, I'm sure. Today's just for you." I replied as I gave her a peck on the lips.

Stella's POV

"Where are you taking me?" I said as I walked along what seemed to be a big room with a blindfold on.

"Oh my god you're like a kid. Stop asking me! You'll see," Annabelle said as she guided me.

After a minute she sat me down.

"Can I take it off now?" I said anxiously.

"Wait a second." I heard the shuffling of her feet and what sounded like a stool being moved, "Now."

When I opened my eyes my lips formed a big smile and I sighed happily.

"It's beautiful."

I was sitting on a modern looking leather couch that people probably used to watch the person playing the piano, and in front of me there was a small table with a bottle of champagne and a bouquet of red and white roses. When I grabbed the roses I realized that tied to them with a ribbon was a long black jewelry box. I gasped, lost for words. Inside was a beautiful silver necklace with a shiny red crystal pendant that looked like a droplet and small diamonds that lined the chain right next to the pendant, it was truly beautiful.

I gasped, "Oh my gosh, you didn't have to. This must have cost you a fortune. I'll pay you back."

She flashed me a bright smile, "Don't worry about it, my aunt owns a jewelry store so she gave me a discount, and I had enough money on my savings account to afford the perfect necklace for you."

"Still, you didn't have to. You didn't have to do any of this. I would have been happy with dinner and a movie. Or just staying at home watching Doctor Who on Netflix." I said as I carefully put the necklace on.

She mock gasped, "So you're telling me I could have been watching Doctor Who and instead I'm here doing cheesy stuff for you?!" Then she laughed. "I wanted to do something special for you sweetheart."

To my surprise, I could actually feel a blush creeping up on my cheeks. I looked down as I said, "I love it... I love you."

"Oh... My... God... Did I just make THE Stella Trueblood blush?"

I chuckled, "No!"

"Oh yes I diiiiid." She said with a fake ghetto accent. Then she added in her normal voice, "I didn't even know you could blush." She said as she gave me a sweet look.

I smiled, "Are you going to play something for me? You're just sitting there. In front of the piano."

She huffed, "No! I'm just admiring this beautiful piece of craftmanship. It's red! The color of love," she said, dragging out the word love as she wiggled her eyebrows at me.

I raised one eyebrow at her.

"Alright, fine I am playing something for you. I'm playing a couple of songs actually. First off is my favorite and this one I learned by ear. It's called Nuvole Bianche. The composer is Ludovico Einaudi, he's italian. Next one will be Primavera, 'spring', by the same guy because like spring I think you're a beautiful work of nature. And the last one's a surprise."

I smiled, "Okay darling."

I saw as her fingers played every note gracefully, and a serene look came across her face. She would look at me every once in a while and smile as her body swayed to the music. The first two songs were beautiful and relaxing, but it was the third that really captured me. It was the perfect melody. It conveyed a strong emotion, bittersweet. I couldn't help but think about the dream I'd had that morning. How I felt when I lost her. And my vision got blurry with tears. But when the rythm picked up my thoughts shifted to Annabelle and all the moments I'd had with her. I was happy with her and I felt as if I were betraying her by the simple thought of Natalie.

When she was done I clapped my hands and let out a small chuckle. She noticed I was sniffing so she asked if I was crying.

"No. I mean yes but... I'm just... happy," I lied.

She smiled, walked over to me and gave me a peck on the lips.

"So you liked it?"

"I loved it."

"The last song was mine. I composed it. For you."

I smiled wider and pinned her to the floor, leaving a trail of kisses along her neck.

Anna's POV

"Stop looking at me like that I'm driving and it's very distracting." I said with a sigh.

"Looking at you like what? And how do you know I'm looking at you? You're watching the road," She said.

"All sappy-like. I can feel it. Plus you've been looking at me like that since we left."

"I just really liked the song you composed for me. I was going to repay you really well too. Not my fault your friends called to invite us to that club... I wanted to fuck your brains out."

I swerved a little because of the last comment and Stella let out a chuckle.

"I'll do it later."

I gulped, "If you're gonna keep making me think about sex with you, maybe you should drive."

"Me? Drive? Honey I haven't driven in ages. We vamps can run faster than cars."

When we got to the club Gabriel was waiting outside. He waved at us as soon as he saw my new bentley. A gift from my mother who had unexpectedly won a jackpot with the lottery a week ago secretly thanks to Stella and her connections.

I lowered my window to hear him whistle, "Sweet ride! Can I have a test test drive?"

I chuckled, "Sure, you can park it for me."

He smiled and said, "Whatever it's a bentley hand me the keys!"

Stella and I got out of the car just in time to see Angie walk out of the club, Liquid.

"Hey there sexy ladies! Finally Annie you made it, hello Miss Worthington, lookin good as always." She said with a crooked smile.

If I hadn't known better I would have thought she was flirting with Stella.

"Someone's a bit drunk." Stella replied.

Angie grinned, "Are you kidding me? They have smirnoff vodka! I love it!"

I chuckled, "Yeah, me and Angie love us some smirnoff. Especially the green apple cider. It tastes like jolly ranchers."

"The drink tastes like happy farmers?" Stella, or should I say Tessa, said with her sexy british accent and a naive look on her face.

I laughed, "No, silly, jolly ranchers is a type of candy. Like lolly pops but flat and with no stick?"

"Oh." Was all she said. But I knew her so well i bet she was going to add that she would have preferred happy farmers.

Angie looked baffled, "You've never tasted smirnoff? Oh no, no, we have to get this girl a drink pronto!"

She dragged us into the club and got Stella a bottle of smirnoff ice, green apple. Then she looked at her with a childish smile of exitement.

"What you waiting for? Try it. It's amaaazing." She said as she looked at Stella like a puppy looking at bacon.

Stella shrugged and gulped more than half the bottle down in one sip.

"Whoaa," Said drunk Angie, "I like this girl. We have to take her partying more often."

"Deal." I replied.

Angie bounced away happily when she saw Chris on the dance floor.

"Do you like the happy farmers?" I said to Stella.

"It's good. But I'd prefer actual happy farmers."

I laughed at how I knew she was dying to say that and then said "That's nasty, Ella!"

Suddenly her face became deadly serious. Before I could ask her what was wrong, Angie came up to us and pointed out a boy from the crowd. He was young, looked about seventeen, but he had gray hair.

"Do you think he dyes his hair? It's weird. But it looks strangely good. Maybe I should go talk to him. He's cute." She said.

The boy was being accompanied by a gorgous brunette girl. Stella looked at her and her complexion seemed to turn paler. Hurt flashed through her features but it was quickly replaced by the anger in her quickly darkening eyes.

"Angie don't go anywhere near that guy," Stella said in an authoritative tone, "both of you get in the car NOW."

Angie was drunk but smart enough to recognize that Stella meant business and she should do what she was told, no questions asked. She followed us to the car and got in the back seat quietly. I could tell she was scared, but I didn't know how to explain because I myself had no idea what was going on at the moment.

"I'm driving." Stella said when she saw me walking towards the driver's side.

"But I thought you said--"

"I'm driving." She repeated as she gave me a stern look. She was in beast mode. Her irises were pitch black and I could tell she was struggling to hold her fangs back. So I didn't argue.

Stella's POV

I raced out of that parking lot at full speed. I needed to get Annabelle and her fried to a safe place.

"Call Jace and tell him Dorian's rogues found us." I said to Anna.

She did so without asking why. I could hear the phone ringing, and I let out a breath i didn't know I was holding when I heard Jace's familiar voice reply.

"Something wrong?"

"Dorian's rogues found us." Annabelle replied.

There was a click on the other line.

"He hung up." She said.

"He'll find us." I told her.

Suddenly there was a bang and the car flipped over, sending us shooting forward.

We were upside down and I could see a pair of boots walking towards us. I looked around to see if Annabelle and Angie were ok. Angie was fine, but Annabelle's head was bleeding. She must have banged it against the window.

"Angie, I'm gonna flip the car over. As soon as you can, get yourself and Annabelle out of here and get her to a hospital. Annie, don't close your eyes. Stay awake until you're safe."

I closed my eyes and pictured the car levitating and going back to it's original position with the wheels on the ground. I felt the movement as what I was imagining became true because of my strong telekinesis. It would give Angie an opportunity to take the car and get out, but lifting such a heavy object with my mind was goin weaken me a bit, enough so I couldn't face a pack of rogues.

"I'm going to hold them back but I can't for too long so get out as fast as you can." I said to Anna and Angie.

Before I could get out of the car, the widow was smashed and I was pulled out through it and thrown against the pavement.

I stood up to meet a familiar pair of baby blue eyes.

"Hello Stella."

I wanted to say something, but the words got stuck in my throat.

She smiled, "Did you miss me, love?"

I swallowed hard, "Hello Natalie."
