Chapter 31 | The Eighth Dimension
The other four arrived soon after Amanda. The rest of them were significantly older than Ron. All of them looked to be at least forty. The ones who had arrived were Armad Bayden, Devon Brussel, Trianna Becker, and Taylor Litwack. All of their introductions were much shorter than Amanda's, and none of them seemed to say much to Ron. Ron was just there, to say the least.
"Alright everyone," Eclipse announced once the seven Keepers had been assembled. "Basically what we gotta do is stop those acromads. We are going to the Eighth Dimension today. As you all know, I have created a D-T that can transport you to whatever dimension you please. We are sending you seven in to destroy their empire. Defeat their leader and we win. That's all you gotta do," he stumbled, tripping over his own legs. He grunted, readjusting himself. "I don't know where else to take this. Just get in, kill the leader, get out. Do not stray far from the area you entered the dimension in. If you get too far away then I can't pull you back out. Got it?"
They all nodded. "Okay. Then let's suit you up in some armor and give the new ones some weapons." Eclipse led them back to the weapon room, this time heading to the other side of the room where the armor was hanging on the wall. He picked one off and handed the set to Ron first. "Put it on," he commanded.
Ron slipped the futuristic over his body as Eclipse continued handing out the rest of the items to the other Keepers. He tightened the straps on the leg pieces and arm pieces, making sure they wouldn't fall off in battle. A gun was placed in the holster on the waist, another gun that seemed to look like his previous one. He took it out and admired it, before placing it back in its pouch.
Soon, everyone else except for the inventor himself was armored and ready for the upcoming battle. "You guys know the plan. Get in and get out," Eclipse told them. He led them back down to the portal room, mentally preparing them as they went.
"You will see death and destruction around you. Your fellow Keeper brothers are there. Rescue them if you can, but also remember that they will be freed if you kill the leader." the inventor explained. They then entered the portal room, Eclipse beginning to power it up as the Keepers stood below at the frame, hearing gears churning and generators powering up.
"Remember, do not stray far from where you enter or I can't pull you out. If all fails, book it." He told them. "Good luck."
The portal turned on, the frame filling with the entrance to their next destination. Syville gripped his weapon as he jumped in quickly. The other Keepers followed, Ron following in the dead last.
Ron fell through the portal. This time, he noticed his surroundings as he teleported into existence in the other dimension. They went through a small "tunnel" that was filled with the same blue substance that filled the portal frame upon activation. It was a short transportation, but he noticed it nonetheless.
He fell into a grass hill, his friends already landed beside him and pushed themselves up quickly. Syville stood farther away from them, surveying the castle that had been constructed in the distance. "That's our target." he stated.
Ron pushed himself up, looking beyond the castle and seeing the damage the beasts had done to this world. Everything seemed to be destroyed, bodies of his fellow humans littering the streets. The castle had seemed to be constructed in the middle of a city. The acromads probably hadn't had much of a hard time clearing space for it, the city was nearly gone anyways.
"What's our plan?" Amanda asked, resting her shotgun on his shoulder.
The doctor stared at the castle, then his eyes flickered to the teenager standing nearby. "Ron." he said firmly. "Please. Dig deep. Discover your powers."
"What?" the boy exclaimed, taking a step back.
He placed his hand on Ron's shoulder. "Your purpose is to save everyone imprisoned in that castle. Unlock your true potential. Save us all. Spare us the grief of an upcoming loss,"
"We won't lose," Devon grunted. "We are in this together. If one of us falls, we all do. We kill as many of 'em as we can until we drop. If we even eliminate only one of those suckers, it's a win."
"I don't have powers," Ron choked. "I can't do this," the fear rose in his bones. He looked onwards towards the castle that stood in the distance, foreboding a future of possible death. Just a few weeks ago, the boy had been an average kid with an average life and an average family. Now, he was a dimensional traveling teenager with enhanced strengths and fought inter-dimensional monsters. His life had changed dramatically and quickly. He wasn't ready for this.
"I'm not ready to be a Keeper," he muttered the words under his breath.
"What was that, boy?" Armad asked.
"I said I'm not ready to be a Keeper! I can't do any of this!" Ron exclaimed, nearly yelling this time. He tore off his gauntlet, throwing it on the ground. He began to walk in the opposite direction of the castle, frustrated and afraid at the same time. "I can't do this!"
"Ron!" Amanda exclaimed.
"Ron, you can do this!" Syville said, running after him. "You are a Keeper!"
"Those things killed my parents!" The teenager cried. "What do you think they will do to me?"
