"Why can't you get into Heaven if you're a really good person?"

First, I want to make it clear that getting into Heaven isn't about 'not getting thrown into Hell,' if you know what I mean. Heaven is a realm full of worship in God's presence. It is where the Bride of Christ will finally join together with her Groom. Whoever is not in the Body of Christ will have no place in Heaven.

People tend to classify the works and characteristics of a good person in different ways. Some people think that being moral means not getting involved in activities such as drugs, alcohol, cursing, pornography, infidelity, etc. Some others think that being good requires going to church, being kind to others, reading your bible, and things of that nature.

While those are good values to hold fast to, they can only get you but so far before you find yourself at the very same place where you started; you'll still be void of the only One who can save your soul. These things will never justify you with God unless you have the Son, Jesus Christ. He is the only standard to gain entry to Heaven.

When we find Jesus, we find life, peace, holiness, and an abundance of joy and love that cannot be explained. The truth is, we can't overcome sin without Jesus. We are incapable of being righteous on our own. We must develop an intimate relationship with Jesus in order to remain in the Presence of God. To keep that relationship alive, we need to seek Him with our whole hearts daily, while also dying to ourselves.

To answer the question, there is no such thing as a good person. We've all sinned and have fallen short. Only God is good. That is why we need Jesus to reconcile us with our Father so we can be transformed into His likeness. In the end, it isn't the good people that go to Heaven, it's the holy ones that do.
