Until I Met You (I)

Hi everyone,

This OS is a small birthday treat from me.
It's written as two parts and I'll post the first part today.
I wrote it in a hurry but I hope you guys will like it.
See you in comment box..

Dear Swara,

Happy birthday

I'm not good at this but my heart is telling me that I owe this to you, so here I am.

I know you come from a high class family and you do have that  spoilt nature a little bit...

I know you have this big chocolate addiction I could never understand...

I know you snores really loudly...

I know you only wear designer clothes...

I know you have some 1000 pairs of shoes dumped inside that closet of yours...

I know you are extremely stubborn...

I know you can't do any chores...

I know you love to sing even though you are a horrible singer...

What I want to say is, I don't care. It doesn't matter to me. All that matters to me is I'm in love with you and  I didn't even knew it's meaning 'until I met you' . And I know you feel the same way.

So, will you be my girlfriend?

Waiting to know your answer.

Love
Sanskar

Swara reread the letter in her hands and again and again. And with each time her emotions changed. It was shock at first which was then replaced by confusion and then hurt and disappointment. But ultimately she was left with anger. Super frustration.

She felt like ripping Sanskar Maheshwari's head off and it is with that same intention, she set out to find him. And once she did, she threw the letter at his face hardly.

"I hate you." Three words left her lips with venom. Sanskar was the last person to whom she thought she would say that.

Also Sanskar was the last person whom she expected to hurt her.

And both of it happened on the same day, on her special day. "Thank you so much. It was a really wonderful gift."

The sarcasm hung in the air even after she stormed out, her face flustered and tears flowing down her from eyes nonstop. And at that moment she knew it was all a mistake. A big mistake.

She should have never fell in love with him.

Once she was out in the corridors, she was met with the usual comments and backbiting. An year had passed but the flare still had not died down. She was still ridiculed and laughed at by her own classmates.

And she had no one but herself to blame.

Swara Bose was definitely everything a girl wanted to be. Rich. Beautiful. Sophisticated. With an excellent fashion sense. She was an instant hit in the college every since her first day. A swift movement of hers with her Prada bag hanging loose was enough to swoon so many hearts.

But unfortunately, she never felt attracted to any of them. It was Sanskar Maheshwari who won her heart. The handsome, outgoing guy with a kind smile. Extremely intelligent he was, but from a middle class family and only got here with allowance of a scholarship. He was opposite of everything she was. He was not a kind of a guy she usually hang out with. And he was definitely not the kind of guy she thought she would fall head over heels for. But the truth was none of it mattered to Swara. She loved him the way he was. Just like some old people said.

Opposites attract.

Swara was a boozing ball of confidence and never for once she thought of a chance of him not liking her back. And it was her biggest mistake. What she did, exactly an year ago.

*

Swara found her nineteenth birthday exciting than anything she ever had. It was the day she was finally going to do it. When she was finally going to confess her feelings. Her hands brimmed with excitement and inside her bag, the letter where she wrote down all her feelings, seemed to be vibrating.

Her friends were having mixed emotions. Some of them, while agreeing Sanskar being a good catch, didn't find it appropriate for the long run as his social status was much lesser than hers was. But Swara silenced them, without even thinking.

Because she knew it in her heart. He's the one for her.

She found him in the cafeteria, as expected. Surrounded with his little group of friends. They were not some of the best people, according to her friends. But Swara was one of the sweetest person ever made. And seeing bad in people was not her kind of thing.

With a deep sigh, she restored her confidence and made her way forward.

"Excuse me." She said politely, breaking the group from quite a laugh they were sharing. Sanskar turned to look at her with a questioning look.

"Yes?"

"Can I have a word with you Sanskar?"  She asked nervously, her fingers fidgeting around.

"Of course." He replied with a soft smile which made her swoon all the way up to the moon. He excused himself, getting up to follow her to a less crowded area of the cafeteria.

"Swara right?" He asked shocking her. Doesn't he know her name?! Of course be does. He's just acting in order to not make him look desperate or anything. Everyone knows her.

"Yes." She smiled and stayed silent for a moment, fiddling with the strap of her bag nervously. And a sudden thought made her retrieve something from her bag.

"Here." She held out some chocolates to him. "It's my birthday actually."

"Ohh. Happy birthday." He wished wholeheartedly receiving the chocolates. "Is there anything else you have to tell me or was that it?"

"No. I mean yes. I do have something else to say." She mumbled nervously. It was not in Swara's nature to be nervous, but this man in front of her has made her feel a lot of things she never thought she can, until she met him.

"I'm listening." He smiled and waited for her to talk.

And then without an explanation she moved towards the centre of the cafeteria getting the attention of so many eyes. She was nervous of what she was about to do. Her hands were shaking and it couldn't explain what she was going through. She gently opened her bag and took out this piece of paper. A letter. And read.

"Dear Sanskar, "

Swara stared at the letter she has in her hand. She had written some hundred but all of them were so bad and this was the one she thought to be the better. But now, as she stood on the podium it didn't make any sense. So he put that letter down, deciding to speak from her heart, no matter what the consequences are.

She raised her eyes to him who was looking at her intently, curiously. His gaze was always so warm and that soothed her giving her all the confidence she needed.

"The first time I met you, you were covered in mud. Some senior pushed you into it and you were smiling. And I remember thinking to myself 'who the hell is this guy?'

My first impression on you was not an ever fascinating one. But since then, every time I see you, you intrigued me. You made really good second, third and a lot of impressions.

I'm not going to stall this or go on with some poetry. All I want to say is, I am in love with you Sanskar. And I want you. You are the only thing that makes sense to me.

So will you be my boyfriend?"

Great! After all the preparation this is how she said. Just like that. Bluntly. But honestly speaking, it was the best way. Because it is who she was. Blunt and carefree.

Sanskar looked shocked by the sudden confession which made Swara a little nervous as she waited for an answer. He made his way over to her and whispered, "Can I talk to you in private?"

"Sure." She replied feeling worried. What's going on? She followed Sanskar as he made his way out of the cafeteria and into an empty classroom.

As soon as the door was shut, he spoke up, "Is this some drama that you and your gang is playing or something?"

His voice wasn't raised or in anger but it was calculating and his eyes looked like following all her movements.

"No. Of course not." Swara denied outright. She was hurt by the accusation and he seemed to have sensed it as his expression turned soft.

"I'm sorry. It came out a little ruder than I expected." He apologised and she nodded in understanding.

She fiddled with her hands nervously. "So?"

"Look.. Swara. I never thought of you in that way. I don't even know you that much. I'm Sorry." He rambled unaware of the fact that he was crushing her heart harder and harder with each word that left his mouth.

"Oh!" She looked down, to hide the tears in her eyes. Growing up, Swara always had everything she wanted. Her parents made sure of that. She was not used to never getting it. And now, in front of her was the one thing she loved the most in this world. The one for whom she was ready to trade her entire shoe collection. (Not entirely. Maybe a half). But she could never have him and she just made a complete fool out of herself.

"It was not my intention to hurt you." He apologised for a last time, before moving out leaving her and her heart in pieces.

An year had passed but those wounds never healed. It was most definitely the worst day of her life, in more than one way. The news of her confession and Sanskar's rejection travelled across the college like haywire. The gossip was Swara said 'I love you' and Sanskar responded by asking 'Who are you?' which was all enough to break her down. She was not used to any kind of negative attention. They always had only good things to say about her.

And  she only realised she actually have haters the very next day, when she was received with boos and laughs. She was someone really pure and would never intentionally hurt a person. So the haters club came as a big shock to her. Some of those people were ones Swara used to talk to and even considered friends. But now she realised, they must have been talking behind her back. And there were some guys, the ones who had asked her out in the past. She had politely declined all their offers. Now their point was, she deserved what she got and it was a long overdue and that she could finally realise how it is to be in their place.

But their cases were not same. Hers was different. These guys had moved onto some other girls the next day as she have seen. But hey heart was with someone and going out with another was not an option for her. She loved Sanskar too much for that. He was the only guy she has ever fallen for. So when the rejection hit, it hit her hard.

Even though she was this top class student all the while, she became more of a laughing stock after that incident. It was sort of an eye opener for her. The people who used to be her friends, didn't care any more. Only a couple stayed and she realised, all the while, they were her only true friends.

A month passed and she stopped caring about what people had to say. She already had so much in her plate to deal with and she put her sole concentration on that. She got over all other things. But not him. Not Sanskar. She still loved him. It was not his mistake or anything. And for one, she knew she always will.  He was her first and only love.

But she never expected to interact with him again, other than the usual passing in the corridors or cafeteria or class. But it happened and it was in no way she imagined it, to turn out.

*

Sanskar Maheshwari came into the library for his usual dose of books. Unlike many people who came there just for studying, he was there for the novels. He was a sucker for the classics and this library was everything he wanted.  Today's plan was as usual. Pick up a book and leave straight but he had to abort that once his eyes fell on a person whom he never expected to see there.

It was Swara sitting on the table near the window. She had a thick book in front of her and she was read it intently. Her eyebrows were  furrowed in concentration and half of her face was illuminated by the evening sun. Her hair she had let out was dancing along with the wind.

And what he felt was, for once she looked normal. She was not flaunting her clothes or purse worth lakhs. She was not cat walking in her five inch heels. She was not surrounded by her classy gang of friends.

She was just herself. And he couldn't deny how beautiful she was.

He knew that she would look as good as she look now (maybe more) without that couple layers of makeup on her face. She had the chubbiest of cheeks that everyone would want to pinch and the prettiest of smile which flashed her single dimple. But it was her eyes, the most beautiful of all. So deep that he got lost in them, every time he interacted with it.

Along with the beauty, the tired look on her face was something he noticed too. He had realised she was having a hard time after she confessed her feelings for him a month ago. He had heard all the rumours that were spread around too. And the things that were said about her was horrible and it made his blood boil. He could only imagine the impact it must have had on her.

Without knowing Sanskar had moved forward and was standing just in front if her. She hasn't noticed as she was still immeresed in the work she was doing. His brain said go back but before the reflex came he had already spoke her name. "Swara.."

Swara stiffened the instant she heard her name being said. She knew that voice. She would identify it from anywhere. And the fact that it was her name that flowed out in that beautiful rhythm made her overjoyed.

She raised her head away from the book and let it fall on him. He was there. He was actually there. "Sanskar."

He looked extremely nervous. The way his hand ran through his hair was not the usual one. In fact he was just messing it. "Do you mind if I sit?"

"No. Of course not. Feel free."  She had no idea why he was here. But the fact that he actually came up to her and was trying to talk to her itself was the happiest news.

He took the chair on her right and placed the book in his hand on the table. He just sat there staring at the unknown and Swara pretended to go back to her studies.

"You are the last person I expected to find in the library." Sanskar announced making her look back at him.

"I don't usually come in here." She admitted. "But my grades are slipping slightly and I have to do some extra work to catch up."

He seemed surprised by her answer and a slight smile graced his lips. "I never expected you to be someone who worries about grades."

"Maybe you don't know it Sanskar but I'm actually a straight A student. And I have worked hard for it." Swara's voice clearly held hurt. It was clear from his mannerisms that he only thought of her as just another pretty face. Beauty without brains. And it hurt her.

It was not a new thing for Swara. She was too rich and beautiful to be taken seriously. And that's why she had always studied hard. She was not someone who gets the hang of everything in a single read, like Sanskar. She has to work her ass off.

So that one day, people will see her for who she is, of what she had achieved and not for her beauty. But now the same thing coming from Sanskar was a big blow.

"I'm sorry." He apologised. Swara wanted to take it as one of that half hearted apologies people tell for everything. But the sincerity in his eyes told an entirely different story. "I shouldn't have judged you that way."

"It's alright. I'm used to it." She nodded and passed him a slight smile but he still looked troubled. "Do you have anything else to say?"

"No." He shook his head but then changed. "Yes. I don't know. You just can't say things like that. You just can't go and tell someone you love them out of nowhere."

Sanskar's raised voice scared her a little bit. She wasn't expecting a conversation on that. but now he looked so riled up. So she said the only response she could think of. "I'm sorry."

"Don't say that. It's just that when you said that you love me, I was so shocked and I didn't knew what to do. And now I'm so angry at myself that I hurt you." He rambled fisting a handful of his hair in frustration.

"I didn't give you any ultimatum Sanskar." She replied honestly. "I just wanted a chance. And yes, it did hurt me. Without outright denying you could've given me chance. And get to know me."

"I do want to get to know you." His voice was desperate. "You are really a good person Swara."

"So you want to get to know me because you pity me?"  That was one thing she couldn't handle. Being pitied.

"I don't pity you. I genuinely would like to get to know you. Can we be friends?" He asked hopefully, carefully as if he's afraid of how she will respond.

But she replied him with a smile. "Of course. I would love to be your friend."

Sanskar almost sighed in relief. He thought she was gonna say no. But she didn't and he was extremely grateful.. Until.

"But," She started scaring him again. "I can't hangout with you at the moment. I missed quite a lot of classes. And I'm trying catch up. It's really tricky and I'm not understanding any of it. So it will take me a while."

In fact Sanskar knew that she had missed classes. After that incident and the way she was welcomed back in the college, Swara took a hard hit. And she skipped class for almost a week.

He was worried when he didn't see her for days. He asked a couple of her friends but he got nothing from them. In fact he was almost in a state to actually march into her home and check himself whether she's alright. But she came back.

And she looked like nothing has changed. She greeted everyone with a smile even though they were laughing at her. It intrigued him and he had took it upon himself to notice her whenever she's around.  She was so unbelievably kind and he adored it.

So when those words left him involuntarily he didn't regret it. He was looking forward to do that.

"I'll teach you."

End of part one.

I'll try completing the rest soon but I can't guarantee anything right now.

Love you all.
Bye ❤
