Chapter 26 - Married Friend

 April's POV:

I smiled and blushed as I walked down the aisle before Jackie. Giovanni was looking so handsome in his tuxedo and so was Erik. He was standing taller than before. Anthony was sitting with Jackie parents and he seemed to have made a good impression on them. I took my place and winked at Erik. I couldn't tell if he winked back but I blushed anyway. Jackie walked down the aisle and I could see her green eyes were fixed on Gio alone. She looked like I had when I was married. I felt a tear come to my eye as she said her vows and she and Gio kissed. It was amazing. I even thought I saw a tear in Erik's eye.

We had offered to have the reception at our house. Everyone piled into their cars and drove to our house. It was a quiet drive and none of us said much. I finally broke the silence.

“What is wrong? Are you nervous about people being at our house?” Erik nodded. I, Jackie, Gio, Daroga, and Anthony were the only people who had ever been inside his house and welcomed. I smiled and took his hand in mine.

“It will be fine. I am sure that Jackie's parents won't mind.” I was leading the way and at last we got there. I hopped out and I heard a gasp coming from Jackie's parents.

“You live here?” Asked her mother. I nodded.

“Its a lot nicer inside. Come on in.” Erik had already unlocked the door and when I squeaked he state,

“I need to oil that again.” He walked in and held the door for everyone. As they passed in, Jackie's parents gasped again. It was lovely. I had gotten used to the finery but I knew what a shock it must be for someone who wasn't used to it. I led them to the sitting room and fetched the food that was in the kitchen. With Anthony's held I managed to get it all in without having a lick of trouble. That boy was a real jewel. I was glad that we had adopted him. He was just what we needed in this house. I looked around and laughed when I saw Raven sitting in front of Jackie's father and whining. I looked toward Jackie and Gio and saw they were blushing and winking at each other. I looked at Erik and I knew him well enough to know he was rolling those red eyes. How I loved that man. He was the best thing that ever happened to me. I smiled at him and walked over to give him a hug. He squeezed my shoulders and whispered into my ear,

“They are a cute couple. Remember when we were like that.” I smiled and leaned up to his ear,

“We still are.” He laughed and we settled down onto the couch. I leaned over and kissed Erik's cheek through the mask. I knew he wouldn't dream of taking it off in front of anyone other than me and Anthony. Anthony had been with us about two weeks before Erik had showed him what was behind the mask. Anthony had taken his off and showed us. I was amazed at the similarities between the two of them. The bone structure was almost the same and the thinness made it more obvious. I watched Anthony laughing with Jackie's parents and I realized something. He hadn't been hurt like Erik had. He still trusted people enough to talk and laugh. Erik had a hard time with that. I laid my head on Erik's shoulder and suddenly the conversation turned toward us.

“Mrs. Destler, I understand that you are the daughter of a famous actor and singer?” I nodded sadly.

“Yes, my maiden name is Matthews. But I would prefer not to talk about it. My father has nothing to do with my life anymore. I hate him. He left me alone. If it hadn't been for Erik I don't know where I would be.” Jackie's parents smiled.

“I understand. My father abandoned my mother and me. It was hard but we managed.” I smiled Jackie's mother. She was a kind woman and Jackie took after her. Her father was a silent man and I could tell he wasn't used to human contact. I smiled at them. Then I noticed Jackie was eying Gio and I knew it was time for the party to break up. I was about to say so when I suddenly felt sick to my stomach. I held my stomach as my dinner started up my throat. I barely made it to the bathroom before I pitched it all. It get going before the dry heaves started. Erik rubbed my back and held my hair out of my face. Jackie was standing in the doorway in shock. I washed my mouth out and held my head. I felt woozy. I didn't know what was going on but I didn't like it. Erik carried me to our bed and Jackie left to say that neither Erik nor I would be coming back down. Everyone came up to offer their hopes of a swift recovery and left. Erik put Anthony to bed and then climbed in beside me.

“Are you feeling better?” I nodded my head and snuggled into his chest. I was tired. It had been a stressful day for us all.
