We stood their staring at eachother shockingly.

I can't believe in my own eyes. She's exactly my replica.

I blinked my eyes 'once' 'twice' 'thrice', but nothing changed.

She is still standing at the entrance and staring at me copying my horror-struck expression.

To be doubly sure, I rubbed my eyes harshly using my fingers.

I still have a doubt, may be I'm having some kind of hallucinations and she is just a mere illusion because last night I didn't sleep well.

I realise that her body is moving and is coming closer to me.

I'm feeling nervous. But why am I being nervous? I think I need a medical help. Oh God! Am I having psychotic disorders?

She stood infront of me and move her head up and down as if she is analysing me.

I guess, she is also in a dilemma just like I am.

I observe her features; her eyes, her nose, her lips, her hairs, her ears, each and every part resembles mine except her dress.

She is wearing blue colour jeans and white colour top while I'm wearing purple colour Kurti and cream colour leggings.

It feels like I'm using dress changing filter of some photo editor app and it has changed my clothes.

It feels like I am watching my reflection in the mirror but with different set of clothes.

"Who are you?", She broke the silence.

"I--I'm Sandhya.", I said.

"And you?", I asked.

"I'm Sonia Singh.", She replied.

"You look exactly like me!", I exclaimed.

"No, you look exactly like me.", She said pointing her finger at me and we giggled.

"It's a miracle! I can't believe on my eyes. I have heard that duplicate does exist but I had never thought that I'll get to meet my duplicate ever.", I said being amused.

"Yes, me too.", She squealed.

"Hey, if you don't mind? I want you to meet my parents. I'm sure they'll also get stupefied just like we are now.", She joined her palms excitedly might be presuming her parents reaction.

"Attention students! Please be seated on your respective seats.", Said an elderly woman. I guess she is the examiner.

"See you after exam. Don't leave without meeting me Twinny.", She said and ran towards her own seat.

Twinny!

I don't know why? but I've both negative as well as positive feelings about this whole duplicate stuff.

I hope, it's just my overthinking and nothing else.

Let's see, what's waiting ahead in my life. I sighed and sat down on my bench.

I notice that Sonia is being seated on the first bench of the first row.

There are four rows in total and thanks to God, I am sitting on the third bench of the last row.

During exams, I hate sitting on the first bench because whenever a teacher try to read my answers? I get nervous and my focus shifts on him or her.

Instead of focusing on writing, I end up thinking what they must be thinking about my answer and because of that the precious time of my exam hours are always be doomed.

Poor Sonia, I hope she won't get distracted like me because you can't afford to have any distractions during such competitive exam.

The exam commenced and I threw all the extraordinary thoughts out of my mind specially the negative ones.

I indulge all my attention towards the questions and on finding their solutions.

I believe that during exam hours God personally attach some wings to the clock needles and the time flies much more faster than any normal day and that's what happened today also.

Time passed very quickly and I heard the sound of warning bell like in no time.

I panicked after the bell rang but soon I composed myself.

I closed my eyes and took two deep breaths and wishpered,

'Calm down Adhya! Calm down and focus. You still have 15 minutes and I know you can do it.'

I tried to motivate myself and utilise the last 15 minutes as much as possible.

After fifteen minutes another sound of final bell hit my ear drums and I dropped my pen in satisfaction.

Finally it's over and I'm very proud of myself.

Successfully, I attempted all the questions and I am confident that I'm gonna nailed it once again.

"Okay students wrap up only your own belongings and one by one from the very first row start moving out of the class without making any sound of disturbance.", Announced the examiner strictly.

She waved her hand looking at Sonia as a gesture to get up and move out.

One by one all the students silently began to head towards the exit and I'm patiently waiting for the turn of my row to move out.

The moment the examiner showed green signal for my row to move, I grabbed my belongings and rushed towards the exit.

I came out of the examination hall with a hope to find my duplicate still waiting for me.

I roam my eyes around the corridor in search of my own face and became stunned after watching the scene.

Pihu is squeezing Sonia in her bone crushing grip.

Oh God! Poor Sonia. Pihu must have misunderstood her with me.

"Adhyaaaa! You won't believe, I attempted all the questions. All thanks to you, mom and dad for guiding me so well.", She said, no not said she shouted excitedly.

"Actually...", My duplicate was trying to say something but I immediately went towards them and stood behind Pihu with my finger on my lips. I shook my head signalling Sonia not to reveal anything.

Initially she became confused by my sudden appearance but then she raised her eyebrows and slightly nod her head.

I guess she is also enjoying. Obviously! Who won't? It's thrilling. I'm excited to see Pihu's reaction.

"By the way how was your exam? Ooof! What a silly question I'm asking? and that too who? To a bookworm like you.", Said Pihu and hit her head slightly.

Pihu is totally a drama queen and also full of entertainment. I love her alot. I don't know how she's gonna react after she'll get to know that she's taking to Sonia, my duplicate, not me.

"I bet, it must be awesome.", She said casually and grabbed my duplicate's wrist.

"Now let's go. It's time to have some fun. Yeah! Exams are over.", She squealed getting excited and started dragging Sonia towards the exit of the campus and I began to follow them silently.

Suddenly, She halted on her place and looked at my duplicate keenly, as if she is observing her.

I guess, something rings a bell into her mind.

"Wait! What happened to your dress? As far as I remember, you were wearing kurti and leggings in the morning then how it turned into this, Jeans and top?", She said pointing at Sonia's dress.

Now it's time for some action. Yeah!

I slightly tap on Pihu's back grinning widely.

She immediately turn around, smiled at me, waved her hand casually and again focus her attention towards Sonia.

What just happened!?

Didn't she recognised me that I'm Sandhya wearing the same old dress since morning.

I notice her shoulders getting stiff. Okay, so now the realisation hits her slow brain.

She abruptly turn around and looked at me with blank expression and then at Sonia.

She continued her this staring action for two to three times, first me then Sonia then again me then again Sonia and so on.

She kept on moving her head from left to right, right to left and suddenly she fainted and falls down onto the floor.

"PIHU", I shouted and kneeled down.

"Oh shit! It's all my mistake. I just wanted to surprised her. I never thought that she'll get unconscious.", I explained nervously looking at my twin.

"Relax Twinny. Don't worry she'll be alright. You just be here with her, I'll be back in a minute.", Said Sonia and went away.

I shook Pihu's shoulder and tried to wake her up.

"Please wake up! Please! I'm sorry. I promise! I'll never do something like this ever again. Please wake up Pihu.", I whimpered.

Pihu is my only friend, if something happens to her then I'll never be able to forgive myself.

She was already so stressed because of today's exam and I put up such a shocking stunt stressing her more. I am so bad.

Sonia returned with a glass of water and sprinkle some water on Pihu's face.

"Pihu please wake up. I know I'm a very bad friend that's why no one ever wanted to do friendship with me. Lily was right, I--I don't deserve to be anyone's friend.", I cried, tears were continuously rolling out of my eyes.

Sonia continued to sprinkle water on Pihu's face and finally her trick worked.

Pihu gain her consciousness and I hugged her tightly.

"Thank God you open your eyes. I'm extremely sorry Pihu. I just wanted to surprise you. I never thought it'll end up like this. It's all my mistake.", I apologized.

"Adhya I can't breathe. Do you, by chance, want me to faint again?", She said and I broke the hug instantly.

"Sorry sorry sorry. I am extremely sorry.", I again apologized.

"Oh God Adhya! I swear on God, one more time if you'll say sorry? then I'll definitely break your teeth with my bare hands.", She threatened me seriously.

I pouted and hold my ears feeling apologetic. I won't say sorry because I love my teeth but I can still express how sorry I'm using my actions.

Pihu tapped her head frustratingly and said,

"What will I do with you?"

"What will I do without you?", I said and smiled sheepishly.

She shook her head and giggled.

I stood up and stretched out my hands. She grabbed it wasting no time and stood up.

Both of us dusted our clothes and Pihu's attention shifted towards Sonia.

She looked at Sonia and then at me questioningly.

"She is Sonia. I met her inside the examination hall.", I said.

"You both look..", we ate up her sentence and said,

"Identical."

"Waoo! It feels like I'm talking to two two Adhya.", said Pihu being amazed and we giggled.

"Hey Twinny let's go before they shut down the main gate and we get stuck inside this huge campus.", Said Sonia.

All three of us came out of the campus.

Sonia began to move her head from left to right as if she is searching someone or something.

"Ah! There they are.", She said pointing towards a red colour car.

"Who?", Asked Pihu.

"My parents. I want them to meet my Twinny. It's not like an everyday thing when you get to see your duplicate.", She said.

"That's true.", Pihu agreed.

Sonia grab my hand and begin to pull me with her.

I don't know why? but I'm feeling scared. Scared to face her parents.

What if! me and Sonia are related biologically?

What if! her parents turned out to be my biological parents too?

We paused infront of a red colour car and Sonia knocked on the window glass.

A man came out of the car and yawned loudly.

He seems around to be the age of Rahul uncle and is wearing a black colour trouser pant which he had paired with a yellow colour t-shirt.

After him a woman shows her appearance.

She seems around to be Riya Mami's age. She is also wearing a black colour trouser pant and paired it with a red colour t-shirt.

"Mummy. Papa, meet my Twinny Sandhya.", Sonia introduces me excitedly.

Initially, her parents looked at me casually then I felt their facial expressions turning confused then their eyes grew wide, they abruptly looked at each other and then at me shockingly.

By observing their unique formation of expressions I can assure that they both know something. Something big.

"Hello uncle! Hello aunty! I know you are also shocked just like I was. Thanks to God that both of you didn't faint like I did.", Said Pihu humourously and Sonia giggled.

Her parents tried to smile, mark my words, 'they tried to smile' and their trial didn't get unnoticed by me.

"Your name is Sandhya?", Asked her mother.

I nodded my head in approval.

"Where do you live? What's the name of your parents?", She again enquired.

"I live in girls hostel and I'm an orphan. I don't have any parents.", I simply answered her questions but somehow I feel like I'm taunting them.

"What! You're an orphan?", Sonia reacted shockingly.

"Did you use to live in some orphanage?", Asked her father.

I again nodded my head in approval.

"What is the name of that orphanage?", Her parents said together.

"Hope Orphanage.", I said.

"Mummy, Papa, why are you asking so many questions to her? I'm feeling super hungry. You know na I never eat anything before my exams.", Said Sonia.

I stared at her shockingly.

Why?

Because I also never eat anything before my exams.

"Waah! You are just like Adhya. She also never eat anything before her exams.", Said Pihu.

"Then I'm sure she must be equally hungry like you Princess. Let's go to a nearby restaurant and filled both of your empty guts with some delicious meal.", Suggested her father.

"Mine too.", Pihu pouted sadly and placed her palm over her tummy.

We all laughed on her childish behaviour.

"Yes, yours too.", Said Sonia's mother and open the car's door.

"Uncle we have our own car over there. (Pihu pointed her father's car.) You all head towards the restaurant by your vehicle while me and Adhya will follow you guys in our's.", Said Pihu.

"Okay.", He agreed.

We both settled down inside the car. Pihu indicated the driver to follow Sonia's car.

After 10 minutes of driving we finally reach our destination.

We all together enter into the restaurant.

I realise that this place is not so classy and expensive. It's just a simple roadside restaurant.

"So girls, what you all want to have?", Asked Sonia's father.

"Uncle I'll have pasta.", Said Pihu.

"Chinese.", Me and Sonia said together.

I turned my head to her side and stared at her perplexedly.

I don't know but It seems like, just now we both acted like Luv and Kush.

"Twins and their similarities.", Said Sonia's mother.

I looked at her being shocked and she looked away being hesitant.

Those are the same words which I often use for Luv and Kush.

"She means that you both not only look similar but your choices are also similar.", Said her husband on her behalf.

The way her husband try to justify her words resembles to a thief justifying his crimes.

I didn't ask her anything not even I opposed her words. Still, he tried to give an explaination.

Now I am 100 % sure. They both are definitely hiding something.

"I don't believe you.", I said being straight forward.

"Huh! What do you mean beta?", He asked.

"You are hiding something. I'm sure. Just tell me the truth and I promise! I'll never disturb you ever again in this life. Please tell me.", I joined my palms together.

They looked at eachother as if they are having some silent conversation using their eyes.

Sonia's mother shook her head negatively and some drop of tears rolled out of her eyes.

"It was destined to happen one day, we can't hide it anymore.", He said to his wife.

"I'll tell you everything but first of all I want you to eat.", He said.

I nodded my head in approval.

I turn my head towards Sonia. She is looking at her parents confusedly. I don't know what is going in her mind? I wish, everything goes well.

The waiter took our order and after 15 minutes he came back with our meal.

We silently finished our meal, no one uttered a single word after my outburst.

I now feel guilty. Few minutes ago everything was fine, everyone was happy but I ruined their happiness.

Why God? Whenever I feel like my like is running on track, you play your master card and break my illusion of perfectness into tiny pieces and pushed me to face the cruel reality of my life. Why?

The waiter took our empty plates and cleaned our table and then reappeared with the pay check.

Sonia's father paid the bill and asked the waiter,

"Can we sit here for sometime?".

"Yes sir, you can.", Answered the waiter politely.

"Thank you.", Said Sonia's father.

"My pleasure sir.", The waiter left us alone.

Sonia's father inhale and exhale deeply.

"Sonia and Sandhya both of you are real twin sisters.", He said.

I knew it, my heart was sending me signals.

"So, It--It means, u-you both are mm--my real parents?", I enquired hesitantly.

They shook their heads negatively.

Both me and Sonia stared at them with our questioning eyes.

Flashback

Authors Pov

A car halted infront of the 'Hope Orphanage'.

A young couple along with a cute little boy came out of the car.

The lady lifted up her head and read the name of the orphanage.

"I wish! Just like the name our hope also get fulfilled this time and we get our little angel here.", Said the man hopefully and kept his arm around his wife's shoulder.

All three of them enter into the orphanage.

They enquired about the head attendant and a staff guided them to his office.

"Hello Mr. and Mrs. Singh!", Said Mr. Bansal, the head warden of the orphanage.

"Hello Mr. Bansal!", Said Mr. Singh and forwarded his hand for handshake.

They both shook their hands and Mr. Bansal gesture them to sit down.

Mr. and Mrs. Singh sat down on the chair and the little boy sat down on his mother's lap.

"Such a lovely boy. What's your name beta(child)?", Mr. Bansal asked.

"Cholya.", The little boy answer in his baby voice.

"He mean Saurya.", Said Mrs. Singh.

Mr. Bansal smiled. He took out a dairymilk chocolate from his desk drawer and forwarded it towards Saurya.

The kid's eyes beamed with happiness. He was going to take that chocolate but stopped his tiny palms midway.

He looked at his mother doubtfully as if he is asking for her permission.

Mrs. Singh nodded her head in approval and permitted him.

He showed all his teeth he have in joy and immediately grabbed that chocolate.

"So, Mr. Singh. How may I help you?", Asked Mr. Bansal.

"Me and my wife want a sister for our son but while delivering Saurya my wife got some complications and now she is unable to conceive anymore. Here is her medical reports.", Said Mr Singh and pass on a file to Suresh Bansal.

"Hmm!", He analysed the medical report.

"I got to know from my sources that someone left a newborn girl in your orphanage. We want to adopt her.", Said Mr. Singh.

"Okay, but there is a problem.", Said Mr. Bansal.

"What problem?", Enquired Mr. Singh.

"They are new born girls, not girl.", Said Mr. Bansal.

"Huh! What do you mean?", Asked Mrs. Singh.

"Come with me. I'll show you.", Said Mr. Bansal and stood up from his chair and went towards the door.

Mr. and Mrs. Singh followed his cue.

All three of them enter into a room where a lot of baby cots were available.

They all walk towards a particular baby cot and inside it two small and similar babies were sleeping peacefully.

"These are the new born girls you were informed about. They are twins.", Mr. Bansal said.

"Mummy chotu (small) baby.", Saurya said getting excited.

"You like her?", Enquired Mrs. Singh.

The little kid nodded his head and asked,

"She go us?", (she'll go with us?)

"Yes, she is your sister.", Said Mrs. Singh.

"Ich one?" (Which one), Asked Saurya.

"Which one you like the most?", Asked Mrs. Singh.

The kid went closer to the cot and started analysing both the girls. Suddenly one of them woke up and started crying.

"Mummy she no. She cry baby.", Said Saurya while pointing towards the girl who's crying and scrunched up his cute little nose.

Mrs. Singh smiled and pick up the other girl who is sleeping peacefully and said,

"My doll."

"Our Princess.", Said Mr. Singh.

"Are you sure Mr. Singh that you want to adopt her?", Enquired Mr. Bansal.

"Yes Mr. Bansal but I also want something else from you.", Said Mr Singh.

"What?", Asked Mr. Bansal.

"You'll have to make sure that no one adopt my daughter's twin. I don't want them to cross their paths ever in their life.", Said Mr. Singh.

"And why do you think that I'll do this for you?", Mr. Bansal smirked evilly.

"I know how much you praise money.", Said Mr. Singh and took out a blank cheque from his pocket.

"Fill your willing amount and that amount will be yours.", Said Mr. Singh.

Mr. Bansal grabbed that cheque and filled it with his desire amount and hand it over to Mr. Singh.

Mr. Singh checked the amount and smiled. As promised, he signed the cheque and gave it back to Mr. Bansal.

"Never ever forget our deal or else be ready to face my wrath.", He warned Mr. Bansal.

"Don't worry Mr. Singh, I'll never let her even step her foot out of this orphanage.", Said Mr. Bansal and smirked evilly while looking at Sandhya.

Flashback ends

Me and Sonia kept on listening silently, tears were continuously falling from all of our eyes.

"I'm sorry Sandhya. Sonia beta trust me we love you very much. You are our daughter. I know whatever we did in the past was not right, we separated both of you from each other but we just wanted a daughter for us.", Said Mr. Singh.

Sonia stood up from her seat and rushed towards the exit of the restaurant.

"Sonia!", Shouted her mother.

She too stood up from her seat to follow her but I grabbed her hand and said,

"Can I talk to her alone?"

She looked at her husband then at me while I kept on looking at them pleadingly.

They nodded their heads in approval and without doing any delay, I dashed out of the restaurant.
