22- Stolen

When I woke up beside James I remembered the previous night right away. I also became very aware that I'd been sitting extreamly close to Fox that night wearing literally nothing but a fur coat. What the hell had I been thinking! He was a freaking stranger!

No. I needed to stick with James, I could trust James.

James was awake and fidling uncomfortably with his fur jacket. I agreed with him there, I needed some actual clothes. We grabbed our now dry leather clothing and put it back on in the bathroom. When we returned Fox was waiting for us in the hallway.

"Ready?" he asked, he had a bag slung over his shoulder. James and I didn't have anything with us but the clothes on our backs.

"Yes," I sighed. We needed to get off this planet as soon as possible, we couldn't go running into bounty hunters again.

"Ok so there's one little tiny thing that I may have forgotten to mention," Fox began, an evil twinkle in his eyes. He started for the door and we followed close behind. James looked at me with dismay, he was ready to bolt for the door.

I should've been more wary of Fox myself, he was after all a stranger. Yet for some reason I trusted him. I wasn't even the type of person to give my trust away easily! After the strange conversation we'd had I was beginning to second guess myself in every way.

James and I didn't say anything so Fox simply continued, "I don't actually have a ship. I need to steal a ship."

"What the hell!" James exclaimed, yet he actually looked relieved. We couldn't have Fox figuring out who we were, so if he believed we thought stealing a ship was a major offense then that wouldn't be so hurtful. It didn't matter if I trusted him, James could be worth millions, literally.

"Well, what did you expect! There's this kid that owes me money, real dumb bounty hunter guy. I'm going to take his ship, it should even be easy."

The bounty hunter part got us alright, the look of panic on James' face was quite clear. Those two hunters that had caught us originally could still be on the planet! No, this wasn't good!

"You steal the ship, you give us a ride, ok?" I asked. We couldn't go near any bounty hunters, god save us if anyone found out who James was.

"No no no, you need to help me! I can't do this on my own!" We emerged into the outside world and covered our faces against the sand. There was a cruel wind kicking up and it was starting to create a killer sandstorm.

"Fine!" James yelled through the wind, "Just get us off this damn planet!"

"You got it," Fox said. I could hear him smiling through his thick scarf. This was suicide, but as far as I could tell there weren't any other options available.

***

An hour later we were surrounding a ship, or at least Fox told us we were. I couldn't see it at all, only a vague outline. We had a plan; Fox would grab the keys from the kid, James and I would overpower his bounty hunter friend, then we'd be gone.

Fox was already inside the ship, talking. We had to wait for our cue, the back door opening.

"Don't listen to anything that I say, or they say," Fox had warned us, "just follow the plan, when I try to get people to fall for my crap I'll say anything. Trust me, I don't mean it."

I looked at James, all covered but for his squinting eyes. "This better work," his voice was muffled by a thick scarf. Fox had given one to each of us. I nodded in response, if it didn't I wasn't quite sure what we'd do.

The door to the ship opened.

I looked at James, he looked at me, then we ran as fast as we possibly could to the ship. As we got closer it became more and more familiar. It was the ship that had taken us here, the bounty hunters that knew exactly who we were.

Follow the plan.

We walked onto the ship and found Fox having a rather civil conversation with the two bounty hunters that had captured us. The younger one, Jacoy, was still alive. That was surprising, after the way the older one had looked at him when we'd run away.

"Here they are!" Fox beamed, pointing to the two of us with a smile. It seemed forced to me, but Jocoy and his superior took no notice.

"Perfect!"

Jacoy handed the keys to the ship to Fox and smiled at me venomously. He did have a black eye I noticed. He probably wasn't too happy with James and I right now.

The bounty hunters moved towards us and I realized what was happening with a start. Fox had just traded us for the ship! That dirty little-

Jacoy moved to grab my arm but Fox was on him in a flash, knocking the kid to the floor with an alarming smash. "Get him!" Fox nodded at the other hunter.

James and I grabbed him and tackled him to the ground. In a minute we had the two bounty hunters tied up and threw them out of the ship. They looked pissed

I slammed the door shut and Fox started the ship. We buckled up into three of the four seats that the ship provided and Fox took off. It wasn't a bad ship at all, a little old for sure but it seemed well taken care of.

Fox maneuvered the controls with ease and did the standard safety checks provided by the safety manual we'd been forced to study at Magmus before going into lightspeed- wait. Safety checks?

"You went to Magmus!" I exclaimed. What were the chances!

"Yes I did, graduated last year in fact. How did you..."

"I went there before I- doesn't matter. I didn't graduate." Fox nodded and relaxed back, we were far from earth and it would be a few hours before we even made it to the Milky Way. "How did you end up on that planet if you graduated?"

"It's a long story. Mostly I got caught up in the bounty hunting business myself, but I've never been cut out for that sort of stuff. I sold everything I had to buy a ship that crapped out on me while I was passing that hell hole. I had to make an emergency landing, 'been stuck there for months."

"You knew those guys wanted us," James shook his head.

"Of course I did! That's why I came to you at the bar, I knew they wanted you and they'd give me a ship for you."

"You were going to give us to them."

"Yeah."

I was in disbelief, he was going to let us die, or worse...

"Why didn't you?" I asked.

"I kinda like you," he smiled at me. This was bad, this was so bad. We were almost captured!

Fox simply turned back to the window and left us all in silence.

Some guy he certainly was.

A/N

Happy holidays guys!! Hope you enjoyed this chapter, please vote/comment/share! I would mean the world to me.

Tell me how you liked this, I was going to have it be set on a new planet but I figured I ought to clean up their relationship with Fox a little.

If you're looking for a good movie try Sing Street, it's on Netflix and I loooved it. Mostly because I'm obsessed with the 80s, but I swear it's good.

Thanks for reading!
