A Piece from the Past

AN: This one-shot was suggested by Ashl0390 and it takes place before Hannah died.

Bryan was planning his next treasure-hunting expedition with Helios when he heard a commotion at the entrance to Packhaven. Curious, he got up to go check it out with Helios trotting behind him.

"What's going on?" He asked Marshie as he saw their alpha talking to someone but couldn't see who it was exactly.

"A lone werewolf showed up at the gates. We don't know who he is but Mario seems to think he's alright." Marshie informed him.

"A lone werewolf? That's strange." And it was. Werewolves were social creatures, they preferred to have at least one other werewolf with them at all times. The fact that Marshie had stayed away from Packhaven for so long was shocking in itself but for a werewolf to just be a loner in general? That was almost unheard of.

Marshie agreed with his statement even as Mario finished talking to the other werewolf and turned to the rest of the pack. "Everyone, this is Minthas, a traveling werewolf, he'll be staying with us for a couple of days at the most."

Bryan stood frozen at the name. It couldn't be. He had to have misheard the name. It couldn't be Minthas. He had just heard wrong. It was probably Minthos or Minthy or Manthis, not Minthas. Anyone other than Minthas would be fine. Anyone. Anyone at all. Just not him. Not-

His inner muses were frozen in place as the werewolf stepped out from behind Mario. He could only stare horrified at the werewolf. Why was he here? What had brought him here of all places? What kind of trick was he trying to pull? ...Was he here for him?

He didn't realize his breathing had sped up until he felt Helios nudge his size. Looking down at the spirit wolf, he could see the concern in his eyes and he tried to give him a comforting smile to reassure him. He could tell that the wolf didn't believe him, however.

"Bryan? Are you ok?" Marshie asked him and his head jerked up to look at her as he said. "I'm fine, Marshie, why do you ask?"

"You're shaking." Bryan looked down at himself to see that he was indeed shaking, but he just ignored it and told her once more. "I'm fine."

The other werewolf still looked concerned but didn't say anything. He gave her a bit of a relieved smile, making the other's look of worry increase but Bryan didn't say anything more.

Over the next couple of days, Bryan avoided Minthas as much as he could. In fact, he was pretty sure that even if the other werewolf had caught a glimpse of him, he hadn't seen who he was exactly, which was a relief to be honest.

At least it was until...

Bryan was walking through the center of Packhaven on his way over to Zylo's bar when suddenly a hand shot out and grabbed his wrist, hoisting him into the air. He let out a yelp before his eyes locked with Minthas'.

"I thought I smelled a traitor." His voice rumbled.

"I betrayed no one! I just-" Before Bryan could finish, the other threw him onto the ground hard, hard enough to break Bryan's wrist and make him scream.

Minthas didn't notice however as Bryan's packmates came out to investigate the scream. "Oh what else would you call leaving our pack! Leaving me-"

"I never wanted to be part of your sick pack! As for leaving you-" Bryan's glare hardened. "It was either that or be killed by your hand! You- you mate-abuser!"

Minthas made to slap Bryan, only for his hand to be caught mid-swing. Bryan looked over to see Xylo restraining his past tormentor. The Omega looked pissed off, and he wasn't the only one. Mario and Helios had stepped in front of him mere moments after Xylo had stopped Minthas from hitting him. Relena, Hannah, and Marshie had stooped down beside him to help him up as well as to look at the damage to his hand.

"I let you into our home on the accounts that you were a traveler and you swore that you would not cause harm upon our residents." Mario growled out as he unsheathed his claws. "Now I will give you one chance to leave before I kill you myself for harming our Beta."

Minthas made to argue but stopped as every wolf except for Bryan (who was honestly scared) growled at him. With a huff, he left after Xylo had let go, albeit grudgingly. When the alpha and omega were sure that he was gone, they turned back to Bryan and the girls.

"Bryan." Mario said in a stern voice that had Bryan looking up. "Why didn't you inform me of who he was to you? Mate-abusers are not welcome here."

Bryan looked away as he mumbled something.

"What was that?" Mario asked.

"I was scared alright!" Bryan exclaimed as he looked away once more, tears starting to roll down his cheeks. "I didn't know what to do and I didn't want to bother you when I had virtually no proof of anything."

Helios nuzzled the side of his pants as he said. "You still should have told us, Bryan, then we could've kept an eye on him to see if he would try something like this."

"The spirit wolf is right. Even if you had no proof, I would've been much more cautious in letting him stay." Mario agreed before he sighed and said. "We'll talk about this more later, for now, let's get you patched up."

Bryan nodded hesitantly and let the girls fuss over his wrist while the rest of the pack gathered around him protectively. Glancing around at his packmates, he was grateful that he was with them, who actually cared about his well being, instead of with his original pack.
