Chapter 1
"Does anyone have gold on them," Clay asked his friends as he held the roasted meat.
"Nope," George said and Sapnap sighed.
"You guys have to start getting your own coins," Sapnap said as he handed over a few gold painted coins, "That should be enough to cover all of us."
"But where's the fun in that when you're our friend," George chuckled.
"I can't keep pulling from the treasury to pay for your guys' food, that's the third time this week either of you were supposed to pay," Sapnap pocketed the money as Clay handed over food with no for himself, "What? No food?"
"I finally got a lead on my latest assignment," Clay lowered his voice so only they could hear them, "have to keep an empty stomach to stay alert."
"I've heard enough," Sapnap said and got up from the bench, "come on George, I have some war plans I need to draw up by tonight. I could use your help."
"Yeah, you go ahead," George waved him away, "I wanna hear more about this." Sapnap groaned and started down the dirt path.
"Get this, I'm hunting this rare species of demon that's nocturnal and can travel through shadows," Clay said.
"No way," George whispered, "I heard that shadow demons are the greatest assassins. Well next to you of course, no one could beat the great Dream."
Clay chuckled. "And that's exactly why the task is to hire instead of kill. I know I've said that I don't like the idea of working with demons but since shadow demons don't have clear allies having one on our side could give us a huge edge against the vampires. And if we can convince one the rest will follow."
Clay glanced past him and realized that Sapnap hadn't gone back to the castle and instead to the wood the small village was located on the edge of.
"He ran off again didn't he," George said.
"Yep."
"Forest, right?"
"Yes."
"You're going to follow him."
"Most likely."
"Well have fun hunting down his royal highness, again."
Clay laughed, grabbed his satchel, weaved his way through the crowd, and to the woods. He looked around for any broken twigs or any natural markers that Sapnap had been there. But of course he only listened to Clay's lessons because it would help him sneak off like this, and decided to not leave a trail behind him. Clay froze as a wind went through the trees above him, it was unnatural and didn't sit right with him. Clay spun around, pulling out two daggers and concealing them in his palms. The rustling continued then stopped as suddenly as it started.
"Woah," Someone appeared behind Clay, in his shadow, "is your assassin name really Dream? Cause that's so cool. I'm the guy you're looking for, I saw you last night and decided to follow you. Are you really friends with the prince? I'd love to help you for free, what do you need me to do? I'm BadBoyHalo."
"Uh," Clay said, this wasn't the person he had been expecting, the man wore a gray hood, had entirely black skin with white holes that marked his mouth and eyes. All the stories George had told about shadow demons had called them fierce creatures that only worked for those they seemed worthy.
"Oh I totally muffined up," Bad muttered, "I should have listened, I talk way too much."
"No it's not that, I'm just surprised," Clay assured, "I've heard a lot of stories about shadow demons. You don't exactly match up to the legend."
"Probably cause I'm not a full shadow demon," He pulled off the hood and his features morphed into human ones, he had light blue eyes and light brown skin, "My human name is Skeppy."
Tommy ran through the forest, why did he and Tubbo have to cross over, and since Tommy didn't want to leave him in the human world he continued looking for him.
"Tubbo," He called out, looking up, half expecting him to be leaping from tree to tree, "where in hell did you go?!"
"Aaah," Sapnap fell out of the tree with a grunt, "heavens above." He scrambled away from the teen, frightened what the demon would do to him. Tommy froze, it had been years since he had seen a human, let alone been one. Sapnap fumbled for the dagger in the folds of his clothing, with a shaky hand he held it awkwardly in front of him.
"Stay away from him," Tubbo came speeding down from above in a flash, tackling Sapnap and pinning him to the ground.
"I wasn't going to, I thought he was going to attack me, and I thought angels were the good guys," Sapnap protested.
"Oh and we're not," Tommy scoffed, "the vampires saved my brother."
"And he helped me," Tubbo pointed back at Tommy, this was a relationship Sapnap had never seen, maybe Clay was wrong, these guys, despite their features, were still human at their core.
"Wait so you guys would call yourselves friends," Sapnap asked, the two exchanged looks before Tubbo stood up, letting Sapnap go.
"Best friends," Tommy said.
"He's been like a brother to me," Tubbo said at the same time.
"Sorry if this offends you two but how long have you been, you know," Sapnap said, "Sorry I don't exactly know demon etiquette."
"Um, nine years since I was reincarnated, eight for Tubbo," It took Tommy a little for him to remember, "we should go before my dad finds out we're missing."
"Big T," Tubbo whimpered as a dagger was held to his throat, "help."
"Leave now, demon," The man said, he wore green clothing and black armor, covering his face was a mask with a thin line painted on as a smile, "Then I'll let your weird angel buddy follow."
Refusing to leave Tubbo, Tommy swiftly picked up Sapnap with his inhuman strength and held his now extended claw at his throat. "How about you let him go and I don't slit his throat."
"Tommy, just go," Tubbo begged, "I'll be fine, I can find you."
Tommy? Dream thought, his eyes widening, he thought that he would never run into any of his past victims. Then again Tommy and Philza had been his only human targets. But things had changed, now he knew that the ghost they had been protecting was their brother and son. He shouldn't have killed them just for protecting family.
"Gods, what mess did the kids get themselves into this time," A young man shook his head, but froze when he saw the stand off. He wore a yellow woolen sweater and blue pants, his skin and hair were shades of gray and black.
"Heeey Wilbur," Tommy chuckled nervously, "nice day we're having."
"Tommy, you know what, sort this out yourself," Wilbur turned around and began to walk back the way he came, "Oh, Phil and Techno need us."
"Take him," Dream growled and let Tubbo go, glad that he was wearing his mask to hide how much he had paled in that moment, "Next time I see you in these woods don't expect to leave."
Tommy covered a sigh of relief as he walked away from Sapnap, he didn't know if he would actually have it in him to kill. Then again he would do anything to protect Tubbo. He made an oath years ago and wasn't about to break it. Tubbo wasn't going to be hurt, not on Tommy's watch.
Foreshadowing much? No, I'm kidding, I would never kill Tubbo. Well not as far as I know. Bad will become more of an important character in the future, he and his human form Skeppy are going to be a Jekyll/Hyde situation. Thanks all for reading and please vote and comment it really helps me!
Peace out YouTubers from around the world!
