twenty-two
the mall buzzed with excitement as people went around shopping for christmas. the joyous festival was drawing near, bringing with it the highly anticipated snowfall. one of soyou's favourite occasions.
"... so will you be fine on your own?" hoseok asked, breaking her train of thoughts.
soyou nodded.
"good." hoseok smiled. "that'll be your room." he gestured to a door down the corridor before leaving soyou alone. the excited girl made her way to her assigned room which...
was easily thrice as big as her entire apartment.
she stood in the doorway and stared in shock. if anything, she actually hated large, spacious places. because the larger the area, the higher the probability that a ghost might be lurking in the corner without her knowing. but the question was — why would hoseok, the ceo of the company, give her such huge employer benefits?
maybe because he likes you, a thought flitted into her mind. a bashful smile actually tugged at soyou's lips before the flustered girl gave herself a smack on the cheek. "must be crazy, must be crazy." she muttered as she walked around the room to get a better bearing of her environment.
on the glass table sat a thin pile of documents. she just had to key them into the computer — simple data entry work.
rubbing her eyes and stretching them as wide as they could go, soyou cleared her throat and got down to work. praying that she wouldn't fall asleep.
//
she did fall asleep. a deep slumber, in fact.
the air conditioner, paired with the crisp clean fragrance in the room, gave off a soothing ambiance and it didn't take long for her to be lulled into sleep.
soyou didn't know what woke her up, but she cracked her eyes open to see the familiar blue translucent figure right in front of her.
"oh my god." gasping, she pushed against the table, causing the chair to wheel backwards and away from the ghost. with a thumping heart and sweaty palms, she realized it's jeongguk's brother.
he was taking advantage of her sleeping form and attempted to possess her body.
"h-hey!" standing behind the chair that she used as a shield, soyou half-shouted. "how could you do that?"
a guilty and apologetic bow of his head was enough to tug at soyou's heart. she sighed and walked over to him. "what were you trying to do, hmm?"
he pointed to her phone that was lying unattended on the desk. ghosts were unable to touch any objects unless humans gave the permission. and they never would — humans could never see ghosts, let alone communicate with them. so the only way they could attain the objects was through possessing soyou's body.
"you want to talk to jeongguk?" soyou guessed. an eager nod from the boy. "what do you want to ask him?"
he lowered his gaze, eyes downcast with a moody body posture.
"if you don't speak, i'll never know." soyou tried to coax him. but before she could say another word, a knock came at the door and the boy faded from her sight.
"yes, come in please!" she called out before hastily sitting herself back onto the chair and positioned her hands over the keyboard as if she was busy with work.
a guy she recognized from the receptionist area peered in and greeted soyou with a nod of his head. "the ceo said you can go off now. just remember that work starts at 9am tomorrow."
she thanked him before glancing at the clock. 5.30pm. she barely did much, but she could always continue tomorrow. after the guy had left, she gave a quick look around the room but the boy was already gone.
what did he want to tell her?
