I swim out to the raft that is tethered to the bottom of the ocean. It's convenient, since my house is just a bit to the south. I can see it from here, as I'm sitting on my raft. I breathe in the cool, salty air. It is my go-to smell. It ultimately makes me feel better when I'm hurt or broken inside. My grandmother always told me that the cure for anything was salt water, sweat, tears, or the sea. I guess she was right. I don't even remember when I started swimming. But now, it's my whole life. I've competed  on my town's surfing team since I was 7, and I've gotten many a gold medal since then. Everyone says I'm just a natural at swimming, and I guess they're right. I am. 

I do a perfect dive into the water and swim about underwater with perfect strokes before coming up for air. I paddle around, letting the water immerse me. It made me feel better, at least a little bit. I fingered the bracelet that was around my wrist. I ducked underwater and swam to my house. It floats on the ocean, held up by posts that go down to the ocean floor. It's a wonderful cabin. My room, on the bottom floor, has part of the floor cut out so that I can go swimming in my room. I resurfaced right outside my house before ducking under the water again to get to my room. I pulled myself up into my room, drying off with a towel. I strip of my bathing suit and change into a pink tank top and jean shorts, then slip on a pair of flip flops. I head to the kitchen, where my mom is making dinner in the oven. I smell the lasagna even before my mom takes it out of the oven.

"Anna, you're just in time for dinner!" She smiles as she puts some lasagna on three plates. I walk over to the refrigerator and pull out a pitcher of lemonade. I pour some into three glasses and set them on the table next to the lasagna. I whistle, and my sweet little yellow lab Goldi comes and greets me. Her tail wags so fast since she is so happy to see me again. Goldi absolutely adores me and my sister Lillian. I walk into the tv room with Goldi happily trotting behind me. Lillian is sitting on the couch watching her favorite tv show, My Little Pony. In my opinion, she is obsessed with anything with magic, ponies, or princesses. She's a sucker for all of them. Goldi leaps up onto the couch, snuggling in next to Lillian, who abruptly stands up and walks into the kitchen for dinner. Goldi looks forlorn. Goldi walks into the kitchen and curls up at Lillian's feet, determined to get some attention. Lillian reaches down and pets Goldi, then takes a bite of her warm lasagna on the table. I walk over and sit at the counter and take a sip of my sweet lemonade. It cools me off after a hot day in the sun.

"Mom?" I ask. "Can I go out and get a new board tomorrow?" I eat a bite of my lasagna and chew slowly. She thinks for a minute and then replies.

"Only if you take Lillian with you. She needs to get her first board too. And then you need to teach her how to surf, Anna." Mom looks at me.

"Fine." I say. Lillian bursts into a happy fit of cheers. I finish off my dinner, then head to my room for the rest of the night.

I stalk off into my room and flop into my bed. I pull out my laptop and the website for 'Grace's Quality Surf and Swim Store' pops up. I scroll through all of the boards they have in stock and finally settle on a turquoise board with an orange starfish at the end. It has wave designs down the board and it says: 'Summer Surf' in curly letters in between the waves. It was perfect.

I tried to look for a board for Lillian too. She'll be happy with the selection. There are a lot of different my little pony boards there too. I scroll down to the swimwear section and pick out a turquoise and white bikini for swimming and surfing. I had enough money to buy all three of the items. I closed my computer and put it on my desk next to the stack of books. 

Making sure nobody was looking, I slipped on my mint green and pink bikini and dove into the water, heading for my secret fort on the raft.
