Flynn
I had my ear pressed against the cover on the ground. Slowly I tapped my finger against the metal. It sounds somewhat deep below but not very. If only I could access to it.
I checked around the seal. It wasn't forcefully shut but just enough. I can kind of walk now thanks to Oceane. With a limp I'm mobile.
Okay, here goes nothing.
I stood up, put my hand against the wall
and with my one good leg.
I pounded my foot against the cover.
Until it cracked against the weight.
It was busted around the edges. So much so I should be able to remove it with my hands. Here goes nothing. 1...2...3...
with all my might I pulled and pulled and it finally came up. I shook my hands off and slid the now scrap metal over to my side, and peered down. The smell was just rusitic. Nothing to bad. But it was deep. and dark. I felt around the edges to see if there's a ladder... ah here we go....
Before I lowered myself down I looked around the floor and luckily, thanks to my lovely girlfriend, a bobby pin was left on the floor. I picked it up and dropped it down the whole. Once I heard it drop, I could lower myself down.
Okay... its not as deep as I thought. No water as well. Slowly, I climbed down the rusty ladder. I don't know much about the history of this town but I do know that this was a mining town back in th 1920s. I can imagine this is the only mining cabin in the county.
Complete darkness.
Pretty awesome actually.
A few months ago I was repairing cars, now I'm in an abandoned workers cabin looking to escape from an evil mobster with a broken leg.
fun.
I started to feel around the wall for a switch of some kind. My hand came across something and lights turned on. I looked around in the now well-lit room to see...mining supplies.
Lanterns, candles, cigars, lighters and of course pic axes. A few other things like hard helmets, gloves and ...powdered milk? the question is... will any of this get me out of this place. I picked up the cigarettes and had another flash back....
I must of been 15/16, making Oceane about 14. "Come on, take it." Said this boy from her class. "No... I won't!" She instantly said. I remember walking across the grass with Emma to come and walk home with them. "You're just scared. You're a wimp!" Teased the boy. "What's up Oceane?" I said as we got closer. "Um... nothing..." She replied in an almost ashamed voice. "Kid?" I said, slightly intimidating him. "Um... nothing!" He ran off and a packet of cigarettes landed on the floor. "Oceane!" Emma exclaimed. "Em, she wouldn't have taken them." I said bending down to pick them up. I remember the sweet smile she gave me. "Yeah... thanks Flynn."
"Let's not tell your mom about this." I went on as we walked away.
Sometimes I ask myslef... did I always have feelings for her? Maybe.
I think so.
It was just never clear until I wasn't a confused teen-ager. She's always been kind, caring and charming. I think there was a void that neither of us could explain.
What I do know now, is that she's always going to be a main priority of mine.
