Nanda

Hello everyone, I am here with a new story. Hope you guys will like it.

I was halfway through this story when I remembered Surya's Nanda. This story has no connection to that movie, I had already made the book cover, so was lazy to come up with another name and make another book cover.

This story is a little illogical, mainly medically. YOU HAVE BEEN WARNED!!!

Humming softly, Omkara comes out of his bathroom wiping his hair. He hears a sound and looks at his bed and finds his daughter playing. Happily, he throws his towel on the floor and goes to the bed.

"PARI!" Omkara jumps on the bed and hugs his daughter.

She turns to look at Omkara and then angrily pushes him, then she hits him on his chest and crawls toward her mother.

Omkara looks at them in shock and sees his daughter hugging a very cheekily grinning Gauri. "What happened?"

Gauri happily grins, "She loves her mommy the best."

Omkara makes a face at her then turning to Pari, he says, "Pari, come to Papa."

Pari turns to him and shouts at him angrily.

"As stubborn as her mother." Omkara mutters.

"Till last night, she was your baby." Gauri teases him.

"Why is she angry with me?" Omkara asks giving up.

"Well, she tried walking you up by climbing on top of you today and you had pushed her off and turned to the other side and slept."

"I did?" Omkara asks shocked. "I don't remember. I might have been in deep sleep."

"When have you not been in deep sleep?" Gauri asks him chuckling.

Omkara sheepishly grins.

"Seriously, Om, how do you do it? When she used to bring the whole house awake at night with her crying, you would sleep through it all."

"Don't jinx it, Gauri." Omkara scolds her. "I know you have always been jealous of my sleep."

"Yeah, right." Gauri rolls her eyes.

Omkara crawls to Pari and tries to pick her up. Pari shouts at him and hugs Gauri tightly.

"She is just 6 months old; how does she remember what I did half an hour ago?" Omkara asks shocked. "She is taken after you in keeping grudges."

"When have I kept grudges?" Gauri asks offended then smirking she hugs Pari.

Omkara frowns and tells Pari, "Keep hugging your mummy, but she loves me more than she loves you!"

Gauri hits Omkara with a frown, "How many times do I have to tell you not to tell her that!"

"It is the truth."

"She is going to feel insecure."

"Oh please, Gauri... her mother loving her father more is not something she is going to feel insecure about."

"Whatever!" Gauri mutters then she adds, "Now, I know from where she got her grudge keeping habit."

Omkara flinches a little then he turns to Pari and tells her, "Pari, come to me. Papa is getting late for office."

Pari turns to look at him starting to give in.

"Sorry, baby. Come." Omkara cutely tells her as he extended his hands towards her.

Pari smiles at him and crawls to him. Laughing happily Omkara hugs her. "I love you, my baby."

Gauri smiles at him seeing him happy. Omkara smiles back at her as he hugged Pari.

*************

Few minutes later, Omkara starts to get ready while Gauri fed Pari.

"We should start giving her some other food too." Omkara tells Gauri as he buttoned up his shirt.

"Even mummyji was saying that. I thought I will check with her doctor and decide." Gauri tells him as she continued to feed her.

Omkara nods as he continued to dress. "Are you taking her with you?"

"How do you always remember?" Gauri asks him surprised.

Omkara lovingly smiles at her in reply.

"Do you any idea how much I love you?" Gauri asks him.

Omkara smiles as he walked towards her and kneels, "I do have some idea."

Gauri smiles and kisses him on his forehead.

"So, are you taking her?"

"No... I thought I will take her when she is a little older."

Omkara nods. "So, do you want me to take her with me?"

"No... I'll go only when she takes her morning nap and mummyji will watch her. And I won't take long, I will come back quickly."

"Okay."

*************

Omkara was in his office when his phone rang. Seeing that it was Gauri calling, he quickly picks it up. "Hello, Gauri... you back home?"

To his surprise a male voice replies from the other end. "This is Head Constable Raghav speaking. Who am I speaking to?"

Omkara's heart skipped a beat hearing that. "I am Omkara Singh Oberoi. Where is my wife?"

"Is this her phone?"

"Yes. What is it? Where is she?" Omkara asks starting to panic.

"She met with an accident. She is being taken to the hospital."

*************

"What was she doing there?" Pinky asks Omkara through her tears as they waited for the doctor.

"You forgot?" Omkara asks her, "Today is Nanda's death anniversary."

"What?" Pinky asks shocked. "Why is she going there for that?"

"She goes there twice a year. On his birthday and death anniversary."

"I told her to stop doing that before you both got married." Pinky mumbles.

"She loved him. He deserves to be remembered." Omkara tells her.

"What is the need to go to the spot where they had the accident? She can remember him at home too."

"If Gauri wants to go there then it is her wish, and this is not the time to discuss all this." Omkara gently scolds her.

Pinky remained quiet after that.

Sometime later, the doctor steps out. Omkara hurries to him.

"She hasn't gained consciousness yet. We can't say anything till she wakes up. She has a minor fracture on her index finger. She has a small head injury. But what concerns me the most is that she hasn't gained consciousness yet."

Omkara felt panic and worry he had never experienced in his life.

"She is going to be fine, right?" Pinky asks him.

"Sorry, I can't promise anything. I have done everything I could, now the rest is upon him." Doctor replies looking up then he walks off.

Omkara walks to the door and looks through the small transparent glass and sees Gauri lying on the bed. As he fought his tears, he started praying hard.

*************

After Omkara had begged the doctor, he was allowed to sit next to Gauri.

Omkara prayed for Gauri's safety as he watched her. He didn't know for how long he sat there, it felt like forever. Few hours without Gauri has been hell for him, he didn't know how he could go on without her. Pari and he needed her. Closing his eyes, Omkara started praying harder.

Seeing Gauri moving slightly, Omkara leans towards her, and softly calls her name as his heart slammed against his chest and he held his breath. "Gauri..."

She took her sweet time waking up.

"Gauri..." Omkara calls her again as he pressed the button to call a nurse. "Gauri..."

Gauri looks to him as her mind and vision started clearing.

"How are you?" Omkara asks her smiling in relief seeing her fully awake. "You scared me, Gauri."

Omkara was saying a silent prayer thanking the lord when Gauri starts to look around.

"What happened?"

"Where am I?"

"Hospital."

"Is he alright?" Gauri whispers.

"Who?" Omkara asks her confused.

"Where is he?" Gauri asks panicking when he didn't immediately reply to her.

"Gauri... what are you saying?" Omkara asks confused just as the nurse walked in.

"Where is Nanda? He was hurt."

"She is awake?" Nurse asks then she informs him, "I will get the doctor."

But neither Omkara nor Gauri heard any of that.

"Where is Nanda?" Gauri asks starting to break into tears. "Please doctor, is he alright?"

Omkara was too shocked hearing Gauri call him doctor. Why would she call him a doctor?

"Doctor, please tell me he is alright. He was bleeding. The blood wasn't stopping. Then he stopped moving. He lost conscious. Please tell me he is alright. Please doctor, I want to see him." Gauri starts crying in panic as she tried to get up.

Omkara felt someone walk up next to him and looks up to see the doctor. He didn't even hear him walk in. then he hears the door open and sees Pinky hurrying inside. Omkara turns to the doctor and informs him as he fought his tears, "She is talking about things that happened six years ago."

"Where is Nanda? Please someone take me to him. I want to see him."

Omkara moves back as the doctor moved in to check her.

Seeing Pinky, Gauri calls out to her. "Mama.... Where is Nanda? He is hurt.... Someone please tell me, where is he? I want to see him. Somebody please save him."

"What are you saying, Gauri? Nanda died six years ago." Pinky tells her in shock.

*************

Omkara was restlessly walking around the waiting area.

"Om...." Jhanvi calls out to him as she walked to him with Pari in her arms.

Seeing him, Pari excitedly stretches her hand out for him.

"Why did you come here, Mom?" Omkara asks her as he walked to her to take Pari in his arms.

"I just couldn't sit at home. What is the doctor saying?" Jhanvi asks as she handed Pari to him.

Omkara hugs Pari tight and kisses her as he cradled his daughter in his arms. Pari starts chattering in gibberish while Omkara simply nodded as he fought his tears.

"Om... you okay?" Jhanvi asks him in concern.

"I am fine, Mom.... Gauri..." Omkara sighs.

"Did she remember anything?"

Omkara shakes his head in negative. "We are waiting for the Neuro. He is in a surgery at present. Meanwhile the doctors are conducting some tests. But we have to wait for the neuro to know anything."

"She was asking for Gauri." Jhanvi informs Omkara as she gently caressed Pari's arm.

"How am I going to tell her that Gauri doesn't remember her?" Omkara asks Jhanvi as he fought his tears hugging Pari tightly.

"Don't lose heart, Om. She is going to be fine soon." Jhanvi consoles him.

"Did she have anything?" Omkara asks Jhanvi looking at Pari.

"Gauri had left a bottle of milk when she went. It is over now. We might have to get some formula milk."

Omkara nods, "I will have someone get it."

"It's okay I will get it. It should be available in the pharmacy here. You watch her."

"Thanks, Mom." Omkara tells her smiling softly.

Jhanvi smiles at him as she caressed his face. "She is going to be fine within no time."

*************

Gauri had been crying uncontrollably as she tried to convince her mother.

"Mama... Please mama, I just want to see Nanda."

"Gauri... please try to understand, it happened six years ago. You are married now, Gauri."

"You are lying." Gauri tells her furiously. "He is hurt, Mama."

"Gauri, I am not lying to you." Pinky swears as she cried.

"You used to love him, then why are you talking like this?"

"How do I make you understand?" Pinky asks helplessly. Then remembering she turns to her and tells, "Remember when you had your accident, your leg had been hurt. You had fractured your leg that time. Look at your leg now, there is no injury there."

Pinky lifts the blanket from her legs and shows her. Pinky moves near Gauri and raises the bed so that she can see her legs properly.

Gauri looks at her leg and stops in shock. Then turning to Pinky she tells her as fresh tears stung her eyes, "How is this possible, Mama? Our legs were stuck, that is why we couldn't get out of the car. Then... this..." Gauri starts crying uncontrollably.

Hearing Gauri crying so loudly, Omkara hands Pari to Tej and rushes to her room.

"Gauri!" Omkara calls out to her as he came to a stop.

Gauri and Pinky turn to look at Omkara.

Pinky turns to Gauri and informs her, "This is your husband, Gauri. Omkara Singh Oberoi. You call him Om."

Omkara hesitantly moves towards her, "Gauri... are you okay?"

Gauri looks at him for a few seconds then her eyes fills up with fresh tears as she looked away and whispers, "Please go from here."

"Gauri..." Pinky starts to talk to her when Omkara raises his hand gesturing her to stop. He shakes his head at Pinky to stop her. looking at Gauri once more, Omkara walks out.

*************

After what had happened at Gauri's room, Omkara was too upset to stand still and he had gone for a walk. He had aimlessly walked around for a few minutes. Then the worry for Gauri he couldn't stay away for long.

Omkara walks back to find Tej and Jhanvi trying their best to calm a crying Pari.

"What happened?" Omkara asks seeing Pari stretching out her arms towards him.

Omkara picks her up and rocks her as he tried to calm her.

"She is hungry." Jhanvi informs him as she handed him the feeding bottle.

"Here, Pari." Omkara takes the bottle and keeps it to her lips as he rocked her.

Pari takes a sip of it and then crying she spit it out.

"I don't think she likes it." Jhanvi informs him.

"Pari, baby, Ma is not well... please drink this." Omkara gently tells her as he tried to feed her.

Pari refuses and continues to cry.

Omkara starts walking with her as he tried to feed her but Pari refused and continued to cry.

*************

Gauri had calmed down after a while and was lost in thoughts as she lay on the bed. Pinky helplessly sat with her as she watched the tears dropping from her daughter's eyes.

In between, she could hear her granddaughter crying. She had been crying due to hunger for some time now. She was starting to get worried for her granddaughter. What if she fell sick? Unable to ignore her cry for food, Pinky gets up and walks out of the room.

Outside the room, she finds Omkara trying to calm her. without a word, she picks her up.

"Sasuma..." Omkara starts to stop her.

"She is going to fall sick, Omkara." Pinky tells him as she forcefully picked a Pari who was struggling to stay on in Omkara's arm. The moment Pinky got her in her arms, Pari started screeching.

Hearing what Pinky said, Omkara helplessly stops and watches Pinky walk back into the room.

Gauri curiously look up hearing the loud crying. Then seeing the baby her mother was carrying, Gauri stops breathing in shock.

"Gauri, she is hungry. Feed her." Pinky tells her.

Noticing Gauri, Pari cries even more as she stretched out her arm for Gauri to take her.

"No." Gauri softly whispers in shock as she looked at the baby, who looked a lot like her. her heart was slamming against her chest. This was too much for her. one minute she was watching her love die and then the next, she is married to a stranger and now have a baby with him?

Pari starts crying even louder when Gauri immediately didn't take her into her arms.

"Please Gauri, if she continues to cry, she is going to fall sick." Pinky tells her unable to control her tears also.

Pinky raises Gauri's bed so that she is in a more sitting position.

"Mama.... This is not my baby. I don't have a baby." Gauri tells her in panic.

"Please Gauri..." Pinky tells her as she lowered the neck of Gauri's hospital gown and gently placed Pari near her breast.

Pari quickly starts suckling.

Gauri was too shocked to do or say anything. She continued to stare at the baby suckling on her breast. Then her natural maternal instinct took over and Gauri cradles her daughter in her arms.

*************

"Since she was at the exact spot where she had her previous accident, and according to you, she might have been reliving that moment, at that time she had this accident, in the shock her mind might have reverted to that point." Doctor tells Omkara. "I can't say anything for sure. But this is a possibility as there doesn't seem to be a damage to her brain."

"What can we do now?" Omkara asks him.

"I will prescribe some medicines. She needs rest. Try not to agitate her." Doctor informs them as he pointedly looked at Pinky.

"I am sorry, I was just too shocked at her question that I replied without thinking. And the way she was crying, it was like the old things were repeating. I just didn't know what to do and I panicked." Pinky tells them as she looked at Omkara regretfully.

Omkara takes her hand in his and squeezes it, "It's okay, Sasuma."

Pinky squeezes his hand in relief.

Omkara turns to the doctor and tells him, "You said medicines... Gauri did breastfeed Pari sometime back."

"She was a little weak and there wasn't much milk too." Pinky adds.

"If that is the case then I don't want to prescribe heavy medicines." Doctor thoughtfully replies.

"We tried giving her formula milk but she is not drinking it. I will try again when she wakes up." Omkara tells him.

"If Gauri is willing to feed then I suggest that we go ahead with that. It would hopefully form a bond with the baby and maybe that could trigger some memory."

*************

Omkara had spent the whole day and night in the hospital's waiting area. Since he knew that Pari wouldn't stay without either Gauri or him, he kept Pari with him. When it was time for her feed, Pinky would take her to Gauri's room.

Next day morning, Jhanvi comes to the hospital.

"Om." Jhanvi gently calls him as she kept her hand on his shoulder.

Omkara opens his eyes to see his parents.

"How is Gauri?" Tej asks him.

"Still the same but thankfully she stopped crying."

"Did you see her?" Jhanvi asks him.

Omkara shakes his head in negative.

"Why don't you go home? You have been here since yesterday. Go freshen up, take some rest and come. I'll be here." Jhanvi tells him.

"How can I go when she is here like this?" Omkara asks her.

Jhanvi sighs sadly. "What did the doctor say?"

"She will be discharged today. Doctor was saying that she doesn't have to be here. Now she just needs to take rest at home."

"Is she coming with us or...?"

"She won't be comfortable. She needs rest and she won't have any piece of mind there."

"Hmmm true." Jhanvi nods. "But how long can it go like that?"

"I have been thinking." Omkara tells her as he turned to her.

"Hmmm?"

"Pari needs Gauri but Gauri is not in a condition to care for Pari now. Sasuma won't be able to handle Pari because you know, Pari won't stay long without Gauri or me. So, I was thinking I would move in to Sasuma's house. I will work from home for the time being."

"Do you think Gauri will like that?" Jhanvi asks him.

"I'll stay out of her way." Omkara tells her, the thought itself breaking his heart.

"Whatever you think is best." Tej tells him.

*************

"Why is he staying here?" Gauri asks Pinky in a whisper.

Pinky gives her a disapproving look. "So, he can take care of Pari."

"Won't you be able to look after her?"

"You don't know your daughter." Pinky tells her grinning. "She is the most stubborn and fussy baby ever."

Gauri smiles surprising herself. "She is a cutie, isn't she?"

"She is." Pinky smiles seeing that Gauri was starting to care for her daughter.

"How many months is she?"

"6."

"How long have I been married?" Gauri asks softly as she looked down at her fractured finger.

"3 years."

Gauri looks up at her in shock and asks, "I got married in just 3 years after Nanda died?"

"You should stop looking at everything from Nanda and his death." Pinky tells her in a gentle tone.

Gauri felt her eyes fill up at her mother's insensitive words. She wasn't even able to mourn Nanda properly and her mother wouldn't even let her talk about Nanda. It felt like there was no one she could share her pain with.

*************

Gauri avoided Omkara like the plague. And Omkara tried his best to not go in front of her. Pinky always took Pari to Gauri and took her back to Omkara. Even though Omkara was missing Gauri, he knew Gauri wasn't ready to see him or talk to him, he knew the pain that she was going through.

*************

One night, Gauri was sleeping when she hears a knock at the door. She sleepily opens her eyes as she wondered whether she had dreamt about the knock but when the knock persisted, she gets up and walks to the door. She opens the door to find Omkara holding a lightly crying Pari.

"She is hungry." Omkara tells Gauri as he rocked Pari in his arms. "She finished the bottle you had filled earlier."

Gauri nods and takes Pari in her arms. She starts rocking her in her arms.

"Careful, your finger." Omkara reminds her.

Gauri nods as she looked at Omkara waiting for him to leave.

"I'll wait here." Omkara tells her understanding and then he himself closes the door to give her privacy.

Once Pari had her fill, she had quickly slept off. Gauri puts her on the bed and adjusts her clothing then she walks to the door. Before opening she checks her dressing to see everything was decent and then opens the door to find Omkara leaning on the wall lost in thoughts.

"She slept." Gauri tells him.

Omkara quickly looks at Gauri hearing her. then noticing that Pari was still on the bed, he tells her. "I'll take her."

"She can sleep here." Gauri tells him.

Omkara felt relief rush through him realizing that Sasuma was right, Gauri was starting to bond with Pari. Then realizing that she was waiting for a reply, he tells her, "It's okay, Gauri. You need complete rest. Pari will wake up in about two hours and just play about. It will disturb your sleep."

Gauri nods and Omkara walks in to pick up Pari. He settles her on his chest and Pari hugs him in her sleep. Omkara starts to walk out and then hesitating near Gauri, he turns to her.

"I know you are going through a lot, Gauri. The nightmare you are going through... if you ever feel the need to share your pain or talk to someone, I am here."

Gauri felt tears fill her eyes, she had been keeping a lot in her, and her mother was not willing to share her pain, but this stranger, who she didn't remember even one bit was suddenly willing to share her pain. Taking a deep breath, Gauri gulps her tears and softly whispers to Omkara, "Good night."

Omkara felt his heart break at her rejection yet again but he simply nods, "Good night." He walks off to his room.

*************

Next day morning, Omkara hears a knock at his door.

"It's open, Sasuma." Omkara shouts out to her as he walked towards the door.

Gauri opens the door and walks in. "It's me." Gauri hesitatingly says.

Omkara stops in shock seeing her. She had been avoiding him like hell all these days and now suddenly she had come to his room.

"Should I come later?" Gauri asks seeing Omkara silent.

"No... no..." Omkara quickly says as he walked to her. "Only Sasuma comes to my room, so I thought it was her."

"Oh okay." Gauri nervously says.

"You needed something?" Omkara asks feeling nervous and happy at her appearance. Then he scrutinizes her face for a second and asks in concern, "What happened? Didn't you sleep last night?"

Gauri looks at him in surprise, "How did you..."

"You are my wife." Omkara tells her with a slight shrug. Then regretfully he adds, "Last night Pari was hungry and I just..."

"She is my daughter too." Gauri cuts him off.

Omkara couldn't help smiling realizing that Sasuma was right, Gauri was starting to care for Pari.

Gauri smiles seeing him smile.

"I'll get one more feeding bottle so that you can fill both at night, that way if she needs extra milk also your sleep is not disturbed."

Gauri shrugs in reply then turning to the bed she sees Pari sitting on the bed and looking at a book.

Gauri looks at her surprised seeing her with great effort flipping the page that was bigger than her. "What is she doing?"

"You didn't want her to watch tv and all so early, and wanted her to develop interest in reading, so you got her these books." Omkara tells her smiling, "She looks at the pictures."

Gauri smiles hearing that.

Omkara smiles back at her. "I am just waiting for her to finish with her book so I can give her bath."

"You know how to bathe a baby?" Gauri asks curiously.

"You used to do it." Omkara tells her, "I learned from watching you."

"I just don't remember any of it." Gauri tells him feeling a little helpless.

"You can make new memories with her." and me.

Gauri nods in a bid to console herself.

When he remained silent, Gauri looks away as she hesitantly asks him, "Last night... why did you say that?"

"Say what?" Omkara asks confused.

"That you know what I am going through." Gauri asks him still not looking at him.

Omkara sighs hearing her, "Because I know, Gauri."

"That's what I am asking... how?"

"I know Sasuma doesn't let you talk about Nanda."

"Why?" Gauri asks sadly, "She used to adore him. Now that you are here..."

Omkara felt bad that Gauri thought like that, but keeping aside his pain, he tells her, "You shouldn't misunderstand her, Gauri. For you Nanda passed away 3 weeks back but for the rest of the world, he passed away 6 years ago. Your mother went through hell watching you mourn him. She did everything that was possible for you and Nanda, and more. Doctors had asked you to stay in bed after the accident, but your mother knew that you will never be able to live in peace if you didn't see Nanda for the last time. So, she fought with the doctors and took you to see his body before his family took it to Pune for cremation."

Gauri's eyes fill up hearing that.

"You mother had stood by you during that time even though it was killing her to see you like that. She just doesn't want to relive that time again. She is older now and not as mentally strong as she was before." Omkara explains to her.

"How do you know all this?" Gauri asks him.

"You told me."

Gauri looks away hearing that, she was shocked that she had shared so much with him.

"One minute you were watching the man you love die and then the next you are told that you are married and have a baby. I can imagine the nightmare you are going through. And you have no one to share your pain with."

Tears start spilling from Gauri's eyes, "I love him a lot."

"I know." Omkara tells her smiling sympathetically, he wasn't sure whether it was towards her or himself.

"He had a job interview." Gauri tells him as she fought her tears. "His friend called him and told him that there was an opening in his company and if Nanda was able to get here the next morning for the interview, then he would definitely get the job."

Omkara nods, even though he knew all this, he realized Gauri needed to share it with someone.

"I had finished my exams and I was supposed to come back the next day, I had my tickets booked. But since Nanda was driving so late at night, I was worried for him, even his mother was worried. So, I cancelled my tickets and we both came together. It was raining and Nanda wasn't very familiar with the roads. The car hit the divider." Gauri tells Omkara as the tears freely flowing from her eyes.

Omkara listened to her as he resisted the urge to hug her.

"The dashboard crashed into us... we were stuck. His leg started bleeding and it kept bleeding. I tried calling for help but due to the rain they couldn't come quickly. We sat there for more than 20 minutes. Nanda said 'Gauri, I think this is it for me.' then he didn't say anything... he didn't move... I couldn't..." Gauri starts wailing loudly.

Omkara quickly hugs her. Gauri hugs him and continues to cry.

Hearing Gauri crying Pari starts crying loudly.

Gauri and Omkara quickly part hearing her cry. Omkara picks her up while Gauri wiping her tears hurries to them.

"What happened, Pari?" Omkara asks her as he rocked her in his arms.

Pari turns to Gauri and stretches her hand out to her as she wailed. Gauri quickly picks her up.

"What happened, baby?" Gauri asks her as she rocked her.

Pari keeps her fist on Gauri's eyes as she cried sadly.

"Awww baby, I am fine." Gauri tells her as she kissed her cheek. Then turning to Omkara Gauri tells him, "Poor thing got upset."

Omkara smiles as he caressed Pari as she calmed down.

"Is it the first time she is seeing me crying?"

Omkara nods in yes as his full focus was on his daughter. Omkara watched as Pari calmed down as she rested her head on Gauri's chest. He found relief in knowing that Pari has got her mother back, he wondered when he would get his wife back.

*************

Things started getting slightly better, Gauri no longer avoided Omkara but she didn't sort him out either. She was polite when they came face to face.

Omkara knocks on Gauri's door one morning. Gauri opens the door and smiles politely at Omkara and smiles happily seeing Pari. Pari happily giggles seeing her. Gauri picks her up seeing her stretch her arms out as she made some gibberish sounds.

"I have to go to office today. It might take me a couple of hours to get back. Can you fill both the bottles?" Omkara asks her.

"Are you taking her?" Gauri asks surprised.

"She won't stay with Sasuma for long."

"I can watch her."

"But you need rest."

"I am no longer sleeping through out the day. I can look after her."

"What about your finger?" Omkara asks pointing at her fractured finger.

"it's okay. I am kinda used to it." Gauri tells him shrugging. "You don't worry, I'll manage."

Omkara smiles hearing that. "Okay then."

Omkara starts to leave and Gauri walks back into her room.

"Gauri..." Omkara calls her.

Leaving Pari on the bed Gauri walks back out curiously.

"Yes?"

"Gauri, it is actually high time that we give her something other than breastmilk."

Gauri felt a little uncomfortable with his casual mention of breastmilk. Gauri turns to look at Pari as she nodded.

"We did actually talk about it. Mom was saying that she needs the extra nutrients."

"What did we decide then?" Gauri asks him.

"You said you would check with her doctor first and decide."

"Doctor?" Gauri asks almost panicking. "Why does she have a doctor? Is everything alright?"

"No... no... everything is fine. You do everything according to what her pediatrician says." Omkara tells her quickly.

"Oh okay." Gauri relaxes. "Can you check with your mother? I will ask my mother too about what we should start giving her."

"Sure." Omkara tells her smiling. "I'll see you later then."

Omkara starts to leave when Gauri hesitantly calls him. Omkara turns to her curiously.

"I was wondering... if you know.... Whether you know..."

"What?" Omkara asks seeing her hesitating.

"I was wondering if you know where Nanda's family is?"

"His mother is with his brother in the US."

"Oh okay."

"You spoke to her on the day of your accident."

"I did?" Gauri asks surprised.

"Yeah. You call her on Nanda's birthday, death anniversary and her birthday. And she calls you on your birthday and our wedding anniversary."

"She does?" Gauri asks smiling then asks, "Did she come for our wedding?"

"Of course. His whole family had come."

"Oh." Gauri smiles hearing that.

"I didn't inform her about your accident. I didn't know how his family would feel knowing about your amnesia."

Gauri nods understanding. "Good you didn't inform them. They shouldn't have to relive his death."

"I was coming to your room." Omkara tells Gauri as he saw her in the garden with Pari.

"Hi." Gauri smiles at him. "Wanted something?"

"No... I just came to give you this." Omkara tells her as he handed her a phone. "Your phone was damaged in the accident. But you had backed up everything on cloud, so I was able to retrieve everything in your new phone."

"Oh... I never thought of my phone." Gauri tells him surprised. The truth was she didn't feel the need to get in touch with anyone.

"Sorry, even I forgot." Omkara tells her. seeing Pari stretching her arms out for him, Omkara picks her up and kisses her. "Everything is set in it. You can use it."

"Thanks." Gauri tells him as she curiously checked out her phone. "Was I working?" Gauri asks curiously.

"You were working in an IT company. But before Pari, you quit. You no longer felt the excitement in working there. Twice a week, you had been volunteering at an NGO that helped people who had met with accident in getting back to their life and with their medical care. You were planning to work full time there."

"Okay." Gauri nods wondering how much of her life had she forgot.

*************

One day, Gauri notices Omkara standing outside his room. She walks to him, "Omkara, what happened?"

"Huh?" Omkara turns to her and she notices that he was on a video call.

"Oh I didn't realize you were on a call... carry on."

"Hi Gauri." Jhanvi says happily seeing Gauri.

Gauri curiously turns to the screen and hesitantly smile not recognizing the person.

"This is my mom." Omkara tells her.

"Hello aunty" Gauri says nervously smiling.

"Mummyji." Omkara whispers to her.

"Mummyji." Gauri corrects herself.

"How are you, beta?"

"I am fine."

"Are you talking to Gauri?" Tej asks curiously as he walked towards her. then seeing Gauri, he says happily, "Gauri... how are you?"

"I am good. Getting better." Gauri replies smiling seeing their joy in seeing her.

"It has become very silent here without you all." Tej tells her.

Gauri sadly smiles hearing that.

"Dad... Mom... I'll call later." Omkara says quickly and he hangs up. Then turning to Gauri he tells her, "You don't mind them... you take your time."

Gauri nods feeling uncomfortable and trapped. "Where is Pari?"

Seeing that Gauri was not comfortable, to make her relax, Omkara grins and tells her "Madam is deep in thoughts."

"What?" Gauri asks surprised.

"She is lying on the bed, looking up at the ceiling and thinking."

"Awww... let me see." Gauri says excitedly and hurries to his room.

Gauri walks in to find Pari lying on the bed, holding her toe with one hand she was staring at the ceiling. Gauri curiously looks up and doesn't find anything interesting.

"What are you doing, my bacha?" Gauri asks her as she got on the bed next to her.

Pari looks at her and then pointing at the ceiling she starts her baby talk with sounds and gurgles.

"Is that so?" Gauri asks grinning.

Pari continues talking hearing the question.

"Ahan." Gauri nods then she turns to look at Omkara and sees him grinning. Gauri cheekily grins at him. Then they both laugh happily.

*************

Feeling hot and sweat forming on her, Gauri wakes up from her sleep. She stumbles in the dark for the AC remote and she points it at the AC. When the AC didn't turn on, Gauri leans on the bed and tries the light switch. Realizing there was no current, Gauri lies back on the bed sighing.

Gauri was trying to sleep when she realizes that there would be no current in Omkara's room, and Pari was bound to wake up feeling hot. Omkara would as usual sleep through the heat and Pari's wailing. In concern for Pari, Gauri gets up and takes her mobile. She turns on the torch.

Gauri opens Omkara's bedroom door and walks in to find it empty. Curious, she knocks on the bathroom door. When there was no answer, Gauri opens it to find it empty. Confused and curious, Gauri walks out of the room to investigate.

Noticing the terrace door open, Gauri walks out and find Omkara sitting on the floor, leaning on the wall as he watched Pari who was sitting on a sheet on the floor playing happily.

"Hi." Gauri says as she walked to them.

"Very hot, isn't it?" Omkara asks her smiling seeing her.

Gauri nods as she sat opposite to him. "She won't sleep?"

Omkara shakes his head. "Wide awake she is."

Gauri smiles. "Aren't you sleepy?"

Omkara shakes his head in negative, "I was just thinking about things."

"What?" Gauri asks curiously.

Omkara thoughtfully looks at her for a few seconds then looking up in the sky, he says remembering, "Last time, when we had come here, there was a current cut and we had come here. We had spent the whole night talking."

Gauri looks down feeling helpless and guilty for not remembering all that.

"How did we get married? How did we meet?"

Omkara looks at Gauri, tells her with a gentle smile, "You don't want to know, Gauri."

"Why? Tell me." Gauri insists feeling curious.

"You really want to know?" Omkara asks her.

"Yes. Why are you hesitating?" Gauri asks him curiously.

"Well... right now, for you, it is hardly a month since Nanda's death. You can't think of moving on ever."

Gauri looks down as she wondered whether it was true. A part of her believed that strongly but another part of her has accepted the truth that Omkara Singh Oberoi is her husband and Pari is her daughter.

"But living in mourning for more than a year and then deciding to move on for your mother is different."

"Hmmm."

"One and a half years after he passed away." Omkara tells her.

"Oh."

"You had met three guys before me, but it didn't work out. We met and on the first meeting you told me about Nanda. You told me that you would always love him, and you didn't know if you would ever be able to love another man ever."

Gauri looks at him surprised, "And then?"

"I didn't want to marry a girl who told me that she didn't think she could ever love me. but I was very intrigued by your love for your dead boyfriend. So, I told our family that I wanted to meet you again, spend some time with you and make a decision."

"And they agreed?"

"At first my parents were against it, as they didn't want me to marry someone who had told me that she might not be able to love me."

"And what did you do?"

"I convinced them. Then we met, we kept meeting." Omkara says feeling nostalgic. "At first you were reserved but slowly you started opening up to me. we used to talk a lot."

"About what?" Gauri asks curiously.

"Everything."

"Like?"

"Like your life, my life, your dreams, my dreams, your college, your parents, Nanda."

"I used to talk to you about him?"

"There were times when we would only talk about him the whole day. We talked a lot about him, Gauri. So much that, I can tell you that I know him as much as you know him."

"Really? Tell me something that you know." Gauri asks curious, suspicious, and feeling elated.

"Hmmm... just like you, even he lost his father early. You both were in the same drama group in college, and you both had bonded on how you had lost your father."

"That's true." Gauri says smiling sadly. Then she asks curiously "How did you fall in love with someone who was in love with someone else?"

Omkara lovingly smiles at her, "I don't think I could have loved a Gauri who was never in love with Nanda."

Gauri sighs.

"And it might be hard for you to believe now, Gauri but you did love me a lot."

Gauri looks down because it was not that hard to believe.

"We were friends first then we fell in love, and we had a 6-month engagement."

"I just can't remember all that. How much ever I try, I can't remember meeting you, marrying you or having Pari." Gauri tells him sadly.

"It's okay. Don't stress. It will come back to you one day." Omkara tells her feeling hopeful.

"What if I never remember?"

Omkara felt his heart break at the question. "Then it is up to you, isn't?"

"Aren't you angry at me? don't you feel any anger?"

"For what?"

"For forgetting you." Gauri tells him. "I feel so angry at myself. How can you be so calm all the time? Are you faking it?"

Omkara calmly looks at her and tells her, "The doctor told me that your condition was critical. If you didn't wake up then anything could happen. You could go into coma or you could never wake up ever." Omkara finishes shuddering. Then he says, "So I prayed that you wake up. That you come out of it alive. That you come out hale and hearty. That Pari should grow up feeling your love. And I got it all. I don't think I have any right to complain."

"Instead of being angry that you forgot me shouldn't I be happy that you are safe and sound? If I am sad about anything then it is not that you forgot Pari and me, but that you still had the memory of watching Nanda die. If any memory of you I wanted gone, it was you helplessly watching him die."

Gauri nods as she felt her eyes well up feeling his love for her.

They remained silent for a while, then Omkara asks her, "Why did you come up here?"

"I came looking for you both." Gauri tells him.

"Oh why?"

"I woke up feeling hot and I knew Pari would feel hot too, and you would as usual sleep through it, so I had gone to your room to get Pari. But you guys were not there."

"Ah."

"But I am surprised you are awake." Gauri tells him.

"It's been a while since I slept through the night." Omkara softly informs her.

Gauri sucks in her breath as she stopped breathing, that one statement told her what he had been going through all these days silently.

"How did you know that I sleep through everything?" Omkara asks her surprised.

Gauri looks at him surprised, "How did I know that?" Gauri thinks hard how she knew that then she admits in amazement, "I just did."

Omkara smiles hearing that, "Maybe your memory is returning."

"I hope so." Gauri tells him hopefully as her heart slammed against her chest.

They remained silent for a while, then unable to take the silence anymore, Gauri asks Omkara, "Shouldn't we make Pari sleep? Wont she be tired tomorrow if she didn't?"

"She won't sleep till she is ready." Omkara tells her then turning to her he asks her curiously, "Why do you call her Pari? I heard you call her Pari earlier too."

"Isn't that her name?" Gauri asks him confused.

"No." Omkara tells her surprised.

"What?" Gauri asks shocked out of her wits. "You call her Pari. Mama calls her Pari."

"Only I call her Pari." Omkara tells her.

"What?" Gauri asks shocked.

"Yeah. Why is Sasuma calling her Pari?"

"I don't know." Gauri tells him completely clueless.

"She is Papa's Pari." Omkara tells her then turning to look at Pari, he calls out loudly to her, "Pari."

Pari turns to look at him.

"Aren't you Papa's Pari?" Omkara asks her.

Pari starts giggling hearing that.

Omkara turns to Gauri and tells her smiling, "Since the day she was born, whenever I call her Papa's Pari, she would happily laugh like this. So, I kept calling her that and now, I call her Pari."

"Oh." Gauri replies amazed. Then she asks him helplessly, "What is her name then?"

Omkara smiles at her lovingly and tells her, "It is not that hard to guess."

Gauri looks at him with a slight frown then realization dawns on her and she turns around to face her daughter and calls out to her loudly, "Nanda."

Pari turns back to look at her.

Gauri felt her eyes tear up, turning to Omkara, she asks him shocked, "We named our daughter Nanda?"

"Of course." Omkara tells her smiling.

"I don't know what to say."

"You don't have to say anything."

*************

"Mama!" Gauri calls out to her mother as she ran behind her the next morning.

"What, Gauri?" Pinky stops as she looked at her smiling at her.

"Why do you call my daughter Pari?"

"Wha.. what?" Pinky asks panicking.

"Only Omkara can call her Pari, so why do you call her that?"

"I just didn't want you to be stuck on Nanda." Pinky whispers guiltily. "You were heartbroken, and I just wanted to remove all that that reminded you of him."

"Hmmm."

"Did you tell him that I call her Pari?"

"Yes."

"Oh no."

"Why what happened?"

"He is going to be angry."

"What you did was not right. I didn't even know my daughter's name."

"Sorry."

Gauri nods understanding. "It's okay."

Pinky walks off.

Gauri watches her mother walk off and noticing Omkara coming from the opposite side. Noticing Pinky, he walks to her.

"Sasuma, I wanted to talk to you."

"I'll not call her Pari anymore." Pinky promises and hurries off before Omkara could say anything.

Omkara watches her surprised then noticing Gauri, he walks towards her. "At times, I feel she is scared of me."

Gauri chuckles hearing that. "She is scared of disappointing you, Om."

"You always say that." Omkara says rolling his eyes, then stopping he asks surprised. "You just called me Om."

"I did, didn't I?" Gauri asks surprised.

Omkara smiles happily at her.

"Where is Pari... I mean, Nanda?"

"Room... she is beating the crap out of her doll. I just couldn't watch it anymore." Omkara tells her shaking his head.

Gauri chuckles as they started walking to his room.

They walk in to find Pari sitting on the bed as she lifted the doll over her head and slammed it down on the bed.

"Nand..." Gauri starts and stops in shock. She turns to Omkara and asks him, "Do I call her Nandu?"

"You do." Omkara replies smiling ear to ear.

Gauri smiles and then walking towards her daughter, she says "Nandu, please stop doing that."

Pari stops and giggles at Gauri.

*************

An hour later, Gauri walks to Omkara's room with a sleepy Pari after she had been fed. She opens the door and stops seeing Omkara just in his pants.

"I was just about to take my shower." Omkara tells her.

"Okay... I wanted to talk to you. I will put her to sleep while you take your shower." Gauri tells him all the while wondering why she was not feeling embarrassed or uncomfortable seeing him in his state of undress.

"Okay. I will come fast." Omkara tells her and starts to walk to the washroom.

"She is sleepy but not sleeping." Gauri tells him.

"You can sing to her. you sing So Ja Chanda."

"From Mission Kashmir?" Gauri asks surprised.

"Yes."

"Isn't that an old song?"

"You tried couple of songs, this song worked."

"Oh okay." Gauri replies then adds, "I didn't think I could sing."

"Oh, you don't." Omkara tells her cheekily. "She has no idea what singing talent is, so you are safe for a few more years."

"You are a dog, Om." Gauri tells him making him chuckle. Gauri smiles as he walked into the washroom and closes the door.

Gauri finds the lyrics for the song on her mobile and softly starts humming it to Pari. Within minutes, Pari falls asleep.

Hearing Omkara opening the washroom door, Gauri starts arranging the pillow around a sleeping Pari, so she could talk to Omkara without any worry for Pari.

Gauri moves to the foot of the bed and sits there.

"I am ready." Omkara tells her as he stepped out of the washroom.

"Come here." Gauri tells him as she extended her hand to him.

Surprised at her gesture, Omkara walks to her, and taking her hand he kneels in front of her.

"I've been thinking."

"Hmmm?"

"I am remembering some random things but not the real important memories."

"It will come to you." Omkara consoles her.

"I realize it doesn't matter even if I don't remember everything."

Omkara curiously looks at her.

"I know you are my husband. I know Nanda is my daughter."

Gripping his hands, she says "Remember, that night you told me I could share my pain with you and when I didn't reply, you were hurt. Seeing the pain in your eyes, it broke my heart. I couldn't sleep that night knowing that you were hurt. And I realized that I was feeling your pain. How could someone's pain affect me so much? And I realized maybe my mother was telling the truth, that I loved you so dearly. Now, I know it is the truth."

"I don't know whether it is the love I had for you before my memory loss or that the memory loss was never able to wipe out my love for you or maybe I just fell in love with you again. I realize that I love you."

Omkara's eyes fill up with tears.

"I might never remember everything, but we can make new memories. I think the best way to do that is to go back to your house. We spent most of our time there, so maybe I might get my memory back when I spend time with you there or we can make new beautiful memories."

"You sure? There is no hurry to go home." Omkara tells her.

"I already told Mama. Even she agrees."

"Will you be comfortable there?" Omkara asks her.

Gauri smiles hearing his question, "I watched the man I love die in front of my eyes and the last thought I had when I lost conscious was that if something were to happen to him then there was nothing left in my life. Then I wake up to find that I was married to the most amazing man ever possible, who ignored all his pain and stood by me like a rock."

Omkara smiles hearing that and he gently squeezes her hand.

Chuckling Gauri adds, "With the brattiest baby one could get."

Omkara chuckles hearing that.

"I am ready to go home and restart out relation, Om."

Omkara felt relief rush through him. "Are you sure?" Omkara still asks her as he fought his tears and tried his best not to cry.

Seeing him struggling to not cry, Gauri cups his face and leans to kiss his both eyes. Keeping her forehead on his, she tells him. "Let it out, Om. You no longer have to be strong for us, I am not weak anymore."

Hearing her Omkara stops fighting and lets his tears drop. Once it started he couldn't stop and he softly starts sobbing. Gauri hugs him. Omkara hugs her and lets everything that he had been holding in for the past few weeks.

"I missed you, Gauri."

"I am here now, Om. And I will not go away again."

*************

A few years back...

"Gauri!" Omkara calls out to her as he walked to her.

Gauri turns to look at him and smiles through her tears.

"You okay?" Omkara asks her as he stopped by her side.

Gauri nods and looking to the middle of the road, she points to a divider, "It was that divider."

Omkara nods as he looked at it.

"Why did you want to meet me here?" Gauri asks him curiously.

"There was something." Omkara tells her as he looked ahead at the road.

"What?" Gauri asks curiously.

In reply, Omkara continues to look at the road and speaks softly, "Hello Nanda... We have never met... but I know you through Gauri and through Gauri, you know me."

Turning to look at Gauri, he says "I love her. I want to marry her. I'll treat her like a princess, I'll take care of her like a newborn baby and love her like the God's gift that she is to me. I want your blessings."

Gauri happily smiles through her tears as she held his hand tight. "Before you reached, I was talking to Nanda. I was apologizing to him."

"For what?" Omkara asks curious and confused.

"I had told him that he was the love of my life but now, even though I still love him, I love another man. I love him so much that I don't think I ever loved Nanda like I love him."

Omkara smiles and pulls her close to him and side hugging her.

"Let's go?" Gauri asks him.

Omkara nods.

"Bye, Nanda." Gauri whispers.

"Bye, Nanda. I don't think I will come back here again." Omkara whispers.

They start walking holding hand, and Gauri curiously asks him, "Why did you say that you won't come again?"

"If I keep coming here with you, he is going to wonder why this clown is coming frequently."

Gauri stops and turns to ask Omkara, "You do know that he isn't really here, right?"

"Yeah I know." Omkara nods. "But it makes you feel better to think that he is here, right?"

Gauri nods. "Mama tells me not to come here. To think that Nanda is there in my heart. But I tried it and it didn't feel like it. Here, I just like to believe that something of his is left behind."

Omkara nods, "It is more for you than him. Reassuring yourself that you didn't forget him. He deserves to be remembered."

Gauri smiles at him, "I love you, Om."

"I love you too."
