Warning
There is no proper redemption in this.
Gauri sits on the floor as she cried her heart out. She worriedly keeps her hand over her stomach, where her baby was growing. The fear of the future was scaring her. She had no one to help her. She had no support. She cursed herself for trusting and loving the wrong man.
She hears a loud crash and sits up in shock. Then curiously, wiping her tears, she hurries out to check what the sound was. She walks out of her house and she could hear a car honking. She curiously follows the sound and finds a car crashed to a big tree and the driver lying on the steering wheel.
**********
"He hasn't gained conscious yet. He is under observation till he wakes up." The nurse informs her.
Gauri nods her head.
"These were on him." The nurse informs her as she handed her a wallet and a watch.
Gauri takes it.
"Please pay this bill." The nurse tells her as she extended a bill.
Gauri takes the bill.
Realizing she was holding his wallet, Gauri opens the wallet and sees couple of debit and credit cards.
Noticing the visiting card, for a second, she stops and reads out the name in her mind. Omkara Singh Oberoi.
**********
"He has no memory?" Gauri asks in a shocked whisper, her heart slamming against her chest.
"Yes. He doesn't even know who he is. At present, I can't tell you for how long his condition is going to last. Some times, the patient will remember everything in a day or two. And there are cases when the patient never remembers anything."
Gauri stood there still, as her mind processed the information.
"How are you related to the patient?" Doctor asks as he started to open the door to the room where Omkara was in.
Gauri stares at him as her mind screamed and plotted.
"Erm... hello?"
Making up her mind, Gauri looks at him and says softly. "He is my husband. I'm pregnant."
**********
Gauri watched as Omkara sat up on the bed and listened to the doctor in confusion and horror. She could read the fear on his face.
"Your name is Omkara Singh Oberoi."
"Omkara Singh Oberoi?" Omkara asks in a soft whisper that was filled with confusion and panic.
"Yes. As I explained to you, your condition, there are treatments and we will be starting them soon."
"But it could be permanent." Omkara softly says.
"That is a possibility. But lets hope for the best." Doctor tells him.
Omkara nods his head as he tried to wrap his head around his reality now. Why couldn't he remember who he was?
"I want you to meet Gauri." Doctor tells him as he pointed at Gauri.
Omkara looks at Gauri curiously. He frowns as he tried to remember who she was.
"She is your wife."
"Wife?" Omkara asks in astonishment as he looked at Gauri.
"Yes."
Omkara stares at Gauri as he tried to remember her somehow, find her somewhere in his memory which was all darkness now.
Gauri nervously gulps as she looked at him.
"I don't remember her." Omkara says panicking.
"It's okay, relax." The doctor gently tells him as he patted him.
"Why can't I remember?" Omkara asks as his eyes filled up and he looked at the doctor.
"The injury to your head..."
Omkara cuts him off. "Why me? Why did it happen to me?" Omkara asks him.
Doctor looks at Gauri as he had no answer to that question. Gauri also helplessly looks at him.
Doctor turns to Omkara and tells him as gently as possible. "There is one more thing I need to tell you."
"What?"
"Your wife is 4 months pregnant. You are going to be a father."
"What?" Omkara asks in shock as he looked at Gauri and finally notices her protruding stomach.
**********
"Enthengillum bhuddimuttu undo?"
Omkara stares at the nurse in confusion.
"She is asking whether you've any uneasiness." Gauri tells him.
Still staring at the nurse, Omkara shakes his head in negative.
"Malayali alla?" Nurse asks Gauri curiously as she started taking Omkara's vitals.
Gauri shakes her head in negative then noticing Omkara looking at her curiously, expecting her to translate, Gauri tells him, "She was just asking me whether you are not a malayali."
"Did I forget the language?" Omkara asks worriedly.
"No, you are north Indian." Gauri tells him. "You were born and raised in Pune."
"And you?" Omkara asks her.
"Malayali."
"If you need anything, please call me." The nurse tells Omkara and leaves.
After the nurse left, Omkara turns to Gauri and asks her, "How long have we been married?"
"8 months."
"How did we meet?" Omkara asks her curiously.
"You came here. We met." Gauri says as she tried to think of a possible story.
"Why did I come here?"
"You are an artist and you've been traveling around." Gauri says as she made up a story.
"And I stay here now?" Omkara asks her confused.
"Yeah, after we met and fell in love. You decided to stay here with me."
"Hmmm. What place is this?"
"Wayanad."
Omkara nods. "We love each other?"
Gauri nods.
"I'm sorry, I don't remember you." Omkara tells her gently.
"You don't have to say sorry." Gauri says uncomfortably, as she had been praying that he doesn't get his memory back. As cruel as it was, this was her only solution.
"You shouldn't have to go through all this in this condition." Omkara tells her regretfully.
"This is not in our hand."
Omkara nods then he says hopefully, "Maybe like the doctor suggested, we can make new memories."
**********
After he was discharged from hospital, they were going to Gauri's house. Noticing the police towing away, Omkara's car, Gauri curiously turns to look.
"What happened?" Omkara asks curiously as he started to turn to look.
"Nothing." Gauri says as she turned to look at him. She didn't want him to realize that he drove an expensive car. If he realized that he was rich then he would have more questions and she couldn't think of anymore lies.
"That's my... er... our house." Gauri tells him as she pointed at her house.
Omkara curiously turns to look at the small house. "We stay here?"
"Yes."
"Isn't it small?" Omkara asks in confusion.
"Er... we are not rich, Omkara." Gauri gently tells him, though her heart was slamming against her chest, wondering whether his memories were returning to him.
"I didn't... I am sorry." Omkara says guiltily as he looked at her. He didn't know why he thought the house was small. Why was he being so insensitive?
Gauri worriedly looks away. He was the owner of a list of Oberoi industries and that meant a luxurious life and she feared if he is going to remember his old life because of lack of luxury now.
**********
Gauri showed around her house to Omkara then finally took him to her bedroom. Gauri points at the cupboard where she had kept the new clothes she had bought for him.
"That is your cupboard. You can change if you want to." Gauri tells him.
Omkara nods.
"You take rest, I'll make your lunch. You need to take your medicine." Gauri tells him.
"I'll help you." Omkara tells her, wondering if he helped her in cooking.
"No, you rest." Gauri tells him and quickly leaves the room.
**********
Gauri walks into the kitchen and leaves the breath she had been holding. She lets loose her hands as she tried breathing. The lie was harder than she had expected. She knew that she was lying and cheating... she keeps her hand on her stomach, realizing for her baby, she would do it a hundred times more. She had no choice.
**********
After Omkara had his dinner, Gauri gives him his medicines.
"You've been silent the whole day." Omkara tells her as he looked at her.
Gauri looks at him hearing him.
"Is there any problem?" Omkara asks her.
Gauri shakes her head in no.
"Full day you have been busy and every time you come near me, you don't talk much." Omkara tells her.
Gauri shrugs and lies, "I don't talk much."
"But Gauri, if you talk to me more then it might help me in regaining my memories." Omkara gently suggests to her.
"I'm just... the shock of what happened... even I need time to get used to it." Gauri says uncomfortably.
Omkara sadly nods. "I understand. Me forgetting you is not something that is easy for you to accept. I'm sorry, I don't remember you."
"This is not in your hand."
Omkara nods. "I'm sorry, you have to go through all this, specially when you are pregnant." Omkara says as he starts to keep his hand on her stomach.
Gauri immediately moves back in reflex.
Omkara looks at her in shock.
Seeing his shock, Gauri says nervously. "You don't remember me, it is not the same like before."
Omkara nods as he took his hand back.
"You sleep." Gauri tells him as she started collecting the plates.
"I'll wait for you." Omkara tells her.
Gauri looks at him in shock and gulping nervously, she says. "You sleep here. I'll sleep outside."
"Why?" Omkara asks her in shock. "Did we sleep like that?"
"It's not that.... I told you..." Gauri uncomfortably says.
Omkara watches her for a few seconds and asks her worriedly. "Now that I don't remember anything, do you think I've become a different person?"
"Yes." Gauri whispers.
Omkara sadly looks away then he asks gently, "If I don't get my memory back... will you be able to accept me?"
"I just need some time for that." Gauri lies.
"I understand." Omkara tells her then standing up, he says. "You sleep here. I'll sleep outside." When she had showed him around the house, he had noticed that they had only one bedroom.
"No, you sleep here."
"You're pregnant, you should sleep here."
"It's okay, I'll manage."
"Gauri, that is not just your baby, it is my baby too." Omkara sternly reminds her.
Gauri felt the ground slip from under her feet hearing the conviction in his voice.
Omkara just walks out without saying anything. Gauri follows him and sees him lie on the floor and close his eyes to sleep.
**********
"I'll do it." Omkara says hurriedly seeing Gauri sweeping the floor.
"It's okay, I'll do it." Gauri tells him as she continued to sweep.
"Gauri, you're pregnant... you should rest." Omkara tells her as he tried to stop her.
"I'm pregnant, Omkara, not sick. You are sick. You should rest." Gauri reminds him.
"But..."
"And they say, that if you are active through out your pregnancy then delivery would be easy." Gauri tells him seeing that he was going to insist.
Omkara nods and sits back as he watched her sweep.
"Where are our family, Gauri?" Omkara asks her.
Gauri stops in shock hearing the question then without looking at him, she says. "It's just us, Omkara."
"Only us?" Omkara asks shocked.
"I am an orphan." Gauri tells him as she looked at him.
"And me?" Omkara asks feeling sad.
Gauri looks away as she said, "Even you."
Omkara sadly sighs hearing that.
**********
"Do you have any photo albums?" Omkara asks her curiously.
Gauri gulps hearing that question. What was she going to say?
"If I see old photos then maybe I will remember something."
"I don't have photos." Gauri says as she looked away.
"Why?" Omkara asks her confused.
"I'm not photogenic. So, I don't take photos."
"You are so beautiful." Omkara says in shock.
"Not on photos." Gauri says uncomfortably.
"Even I didn't take photos?" Omkara asks her curiously.
"You had some on your phone. It was damaged in your accident."
Omkara nods sadly as he looked away.
**********
"Someone is here." Omkara tells Gauri noticing a lady opening the gate.
Gauri curiously looks out and seeing her house owner, she hurries out. "Kalyani Aunty."
"Aara Gauri athu?" [Who is that, Gauri?] Kalyani asks curiously noticing Omkara at the door.
"Ente bharthavu." [My husband.] Gauri replies.
"Ethiyo? Eppozhum bharthavine patti chodikkumbol veliyilanu ennu parumbol sathyathil ennikku ithiri samshayam undayirunnu." [He reached? Every time when I ask you about your husband and you say he is outside of India, I was a little suspicious.] Kalyani guiltily confesses to her.
"Athu kuzhappam illa." [That's okay.]
"Njan poyi parichayapedatte." [Let me go and meet him.] Kalyani says excitedly.
"Kalyani Aunty, Omkara Malayalam samsarikkilla." [Kalyani Aunty, Omkara doesn't speak malayalam.] Gauri quickly tells her as she blocked her way.
"I speak English." Kalyani tells her happily.
"Omkara, samsarikkilla." [Omkara doesn't speak English.] Gauri quickly lies.
"Oh, hindi?"
"No." Gauri lies then she tries her luck and says. "Telugu."
Kalyani's face falls. "Ennikku Telugu ariyilla." [I don't speak Telugu.] then she looks at Omkara who was still standing by the door. She smiles at him.
Omkara curiously smiles back.
"Thalakku enthu patti?" [What happened to his head?]
"Accident."
"Oh, ivide aduthu nadanna accident, Omkarade aayirunno?" [Oh, was the accident that happened outside, was it his?]
"Athe." [Yes.]
Kalyani nods. "Nalla moodal manju aayirunnu. Adiyayittu vannathu kondu, veedum kandupidikkan pattikanilla. Angane accident ayathayirikkum." [it was very foggy. And he was coming for the first time and might not have been able to locate the house. And the accident might have happened then.] Kalyani deduces.
"Athe." [Yes.]
"Ippol engane undu?" [How is he now?]
"Orma poyi." [He lost his memory.] Gauri tells her, so that Kalyani would leave Omkara alone.
"Aiyoo."
"Treatment nadakkuva." [He is undergoing treatment now.]
Saying that she had to make food for Omkara, Gauri sends her away.
"Who was that?" Omkara asks curiously as Gauri reached him.
"House owner."
"What was she asking?"
"About your accident."
Omkara nods then asks curiously. "Why didn't she speak to me? Doesn't she know me?"
"She doesn't speak Hindi or English. So, she just smiles when she sees you." Gauri says, feeling herself getting buried under her lies.
"Oh."
**********
"Gauri..." Omkara calls her curiously as he walked to the kitchen.
"Yes?"
"You said I am an artist." Omkara tells her confused.
Gauri nervously nods hearing that.
"I don't see any art supplies here."
"Er... it was all over."
"All of it?" Omkara asks shocked.
"Yes, you were on your way to buy new supplies when you met with your accident."
"Oh okay."
**********
Omkara watched as Gauri gave him his medicines.
He felt sad and depressed. Gauri took care of him so well. Everything was done according to his comfort. But she was distant from him. It was like she wasn't comfortable with him. And that hurt him because he had no one else other than Gauri. He prayed that either he get his memory back soon or that Gauri accept him without his memory.
**********
"I want to go out, Gauri." Omkara tells her one day.
"Where?" Gauri asks shocked hearing his demand.
"Just out. I am feeling tired sitting at home full time." Omkara tells her.
"But you need rest."
"We'll come back fast."
"It's really cold outside." Gauri tells him, hoping that would change his mind.
"I'll wear some muffler."
**********
Gauri was walking with Omkara. She was silent while he kept trying to start conversations with her. She just gave monosyllable answers.
Gauri was passing by a shop when her eyes catches a newspaper lying on the rails. It had a photo of Omkara and the heading was Mumbai business tycoon Omkara Singh Oberoi missing.
Gauri nervously looks at Omkara and sees him looking elsewhere. She thanked her stars that he had worn the muffler otherwise people would have recognized him.
"Let's go back." Gauri tells him hurriedly as she held his hand and turned him around.
"But we just..."
"I'm not feeling good."
"Oh... Is it the baby?" Omkara asks her worriedly as he securely held her in his arms and lead her towards her house.
Gauri nods. I'm sorry baby, for misusing you like this.
Gauri knew it was a matter of time before someone recognized Omkara from the papers. She started praying hard that no one recognized Omkara.
**********
One day, Gauri had to leave Omkara alone and go to the market to get grocery. As she was walking back after buying everything, she by chance sees him.
Gauri stops in shock seeing Ajay talking to one auto driver.
Ajay!
The man who ruined her life.
And for what? She still didn't know.
Gauri ducks to hide from his sight and quickly gets into an auto and hurries home.
Why was he here? Was he here for her? But how did he find out that she is here?
Gauri worriedly keeps her hand over her baby and prays hard for God's mercy as she fought her worried tears.
Just as Gauri was reaching her house, she notices Kalyani leaving from her house. Gauri's heart skips a beat. Kalyani had come a couple of times after that but she had never let her get near Omkara.
Did she talk to Omkara? Did she understand that Omkara could speak Hindi and English? And if she did, what did she speak to him?
Gauri worriedly grabs her stuff then paying the driver, she almost runs into the house.
"I'm back." Gauri nervously tells Omkara. "Did anyone come?"
"Our house owner had come." Omkara tells her as he took the bags from her.
"Oh what did she say?" Gauri asks as she tried to hide her panic.
"I think she is trying to learn Hindi. Spoke to me in Hindi. Grammar and pronunciation needs a lot of improvement. Was asking me so many questions." Omkara tells her as he walked to the kitchen.
"Like?"
"Like what I remember... the accident... treatment and all." Omkara tells her shrugging.
And Gauri knew that Kalyani had seen the newspaper that had his missing report.
And it was just a matter of time before her lies were exposed.
"Oh and the police had come. They were asking about the accident and my treatment and all. You said the police had closed the case file, right?"
Since that day was very foggy and the hospital had found alcohol in his blood, the police had closed the FIR concluding it to be an accident and since, she had pleaded with them, they had agreed not to take a drunken driving case against him. She had with great difficulty squashed all the investigation procedures and she being his pregnant wife, even the police had sympathized with her, and they hadn't even met Omkara. So, why were they here now?
Gauri stops as she realized that Kalyani had informed the police about Omkara being here.
**********
Gauri was upset about something. He could see that. And it killed him. Her pain affected him like nothing else.
Omkara walks to her and gently hugs her from behind.
Shocked and panicking, Gauri jumps away from him and turns to look at him. "What are you doing?"
"Gauri... what happened?" Omkara asks her hurt at her behavior.
"Why did you hug me?" Gauri asks him, as her eyes filled up with pain and anger.
"You're my wife." Omkara gently reminds her.
"But I told you I need time." Gauri reminds him angrily as she wiped away her furious tears. "Stay in your limits, Omkara."
"Why are you behaving like this, Gauri?" Omkara asks hurt at her behavior.
"Just stay away from me." Gauri tells him as she moved back trying to put as much as distance between them as possible.
"Please don't do this to me, Gauri." Omkara pleads her as he walked to her. "You're all I have."
"Please, just leave me alone." Gauri tells him as she broke into tears, her lies taking a toll on her.
"Gauri..."
"GET OUT!"
Hurt and helpless, Omkara walks out and the moment he stepped out, the door was slammed shut.
Omkara turns back to look at the closed door in hurt. Helplessly, he keeps his hand on the door and says as he broke down. "I love you, Gauri. Please don't push me away."
He hears her break into loud sobs inside the room and stops helplessly.
**********
Hearing the door bell, Omkara wipes away his tears and he walks to open the door. Just before he opened the door, he hears the inside door open and turns to look at Gauri.
Gauri stood by her bedroom door, white as a ghost as she fearfully looked at the door.
"Gauri..." Omkara starts to walk to her when he hears the bell again. He ignores that and starts to walk to Gauri.
"Omkara!"
Omkara stops hearing a girl call out his name.
He looks at Gauri and sees her staring at the door and she looked whiter.
"Omkara! Open the door!"
He opens the door and stops seeing the police and a lady standing with them.
"Yes?" Omkara says.
"Omkara!" The girl says in relief as she hurried in and hugged him.
"Who are you?" Omkara asks in shock as he pushed her away.
"You don't remember me?" She asks her eyes filling up.
"No."
"Like I told you, he has lost his memory." The police informs her.
"I'm Ridhima." Ridhima tells him as she cupped his face, her eyes filled with tears.
Omkara removes her hand away from his face and moves back. "And?"
"I'm your fiancé, Omkara." Ridhima informs him.
"Fiance?" Omkara asks frowning angrily. "I'm married."
"No!" Ridhima tells him angrily.
"That is my wife." Omkara tells her as he angrily pointed at Gauri.
"You were going to marry me." Ridhima reminds him.
"Gauri is my wife. We are going to have a baby." Omkara tells her angrily.
Ridhima angrily tells him. "She is liar and a cheat."
"How dare you?" Omkara furiously holds her neck.
"Leave her!" The police orders him as he pulled Omkara's hand away. "I know you have no memory but don't make me arrest you."
"Take her and leave." Omkara tells him.
The police takes a newspaper and shows him.
Omkara stops in shock seeing an English newspaper with his photo and heading that said, he was missing. And he was a rich businessman from Mumbai... but Gauri said he was from Pune?
Omkara turns to Gauri in shock as he held the newspaper. "Gauri, what is this?"
Gauri without replying anything, just looks at him.
"Gauri..."
"Omkara, please come with me."
"Your fiancé is calling you, Omkara. You should go." Gauri tells him softly.
"I'm your husband." Omkara furiously argues as he started to walk towards her.
"Omkara, you promised that we would get married." Ridhima says as she held his hand. "Everybody is waiting for you in Mumbai. Let's go."
"Everybody?" Omkara asks confused.
"Your mother. Our friends. Our families." Ridhima tells him.
"I've no one. All I have is Gauri." Omkara argues.
"No, she is a liar!" Ridhima furiously argues. "She is taking advantage of your memory loss."
Omkara furiously looks at her then taking a calming breath, he says. "It is true that I have no memory. I don't remember who I am. But I know that I love Gauri. Every time I look at her I feel that love. I love her and I trust her."
Hearing that he trusts her, Gauri lost it and she burst into tears. "I lied to you, Omkara. Go away!" Gauri screams out in anguish and she gets back into her bedroom and slams the door shut.
Omkara's heart breaks hearing her say that. He felt tears fill his eyes.
"See... she confessed. Let's go, Omkara." Ridhima pleads him.
"No." Omkara tells her stubbornly. "I'll not leave Gauri."
"You've to come with me." Ridhima angrily insists.
"And I'm staying here with my Gauri."
"She is a liar. She just told you." Ridhima reminds him angrily.
"I don't care. You all should leave."
"Ask him to come with me." Ridhima tells the policeman.
"It is his decision."
"He has no memory!"
"Then you need to get a court order saying he is not of sound mind. Then we can do something."
"Fine. I'll bring the order and come back." Ridhima tells them. Then turning to Omkara she cups his face and promises him. "I'll come back for you, Omkara. And like you promised we will be together forever."
**********
Gauri opens her bedroom door and comes out. She stops in shock seeing Omkara sitting outside her door.
"You didn't go?" Gauri asks him in shock.
"I've no one else other than you, Gauri." Omkara tells her.
"You've a fiancé and a life out there." Gauri tells him.
"My life is with you." Omkara tells her as he stood up, his eyes filled with unshed tears. "Please tell me the truth, Gauri. I'm your husband, right? This is our baby, right?"
"I lied, Omkara. I needed a father for my baby. I was alone and I had no one. That time, I found you outside my house. When I realized you had no memory I thought maybe we didn't have to be alone." Gauri tells him.
Omkara stops hearing her, his tears flowing down his face. "You lied?"
"Yes, please go." Gauri tells him.
Omkara shakes his head in no. "I've no life away from you, Gauri."
"I don't want you here, Omkara. Please go away."
"No."
**********
They both spent a sleepless night, away from each other.
In the morning, Omkara tried to talk to Gauri but she had ignored him.
Around mid morning, they hear a door bell and Gauri comes out of her room to check and sees Omkara sitting in the living room and making no moves to open the door.
Gauri walks to the door and opens in. She stops in shock seeing the lady at the door. Her eyes fill up seeing her.
"Ma..." Gauri softly calls her as she broke into tears.
"Gauri..." she says as she stepped inside.
Omkara stands up in surprise hearing Gauri calling someone Ma. Gauri had told him that she was an orphan.
"I'm sorry, Ma. I had no choice. I did it for my baby." Gauri tells her as she broke into tears.
"You're my daughter, Gauri. I know you." She says as she hugged Gauri. "I understand you. And I forgive you for what you did."
Gauri hugs her and cries her heart out.
Seeing Omkara watching them, she asks Gauri, "Can I talk to him?"
Gauri nods and steps back as she wiped her tears.
Omkara walks to them and asks the lady, "Are you Gauri's mother?"
She shakes her head in negative. "I am your mother, Om."
"My mother..." Omkara whispers in shock.
"My name is Jhanvi Singh Oberoi."
"You are my mother?" then he looks at Gauri in confusion. "She called you Ma... you know my mother?"
Gauri looks at him silently for a few seconds then without saying anything, she walks off to her room.
Omkara starts to go after her when Jhanvi holds his hand.
"I want to talk to you, Om."
Omkara helplessly turns to her and says, "I don't want to talk. Everyone says a different story. I don't know whom to believe. Gauri said she is my wife and we are going to have a baby. And I believed her. Then someone else said that I am someone else. Gauri then said that I am no one to her and she had lied to me but my heart knows that Gauri didn't lie to me. My heart only believes Gauri. I just want to be with Gauri. But now, she is refusing to even talk to me. I don't know what to do. I feel like I am drowning. I feel like killing myself. I just don't know who I am." Omkara stops as tears fell from his eyes.
Jhanvi watches her son for a few seconds then she softly says, "I've heard that a girl's curse can destroy you. That you've to pay heavily for an innocent's tears. I'm seeing that now."
"Which girl? Which innocent?" Omkara asks in shock, his heart refusing to believe that he can be cruel like that.
"Gauri's."
Omkara's heart skips a beat hearing that. "Gauri said she found me outside her house. Then how did I hurt her? And she is she calling you Ma?" Omkara asks confused, feeling like his head would burst.
"Before you let me meet Gauri, you told me that Gauri is an orphan and you didn't want me to be her mother-in-law but wants me to be her mother. I did become her mother, Om. But why didn't you become the man you promised to be when you married her?" Jhanvi asks him sadly.
"Gauri is my wife?" Omkara asks, his eyes filling with happy tears. "She is my wife and that is our baby, right?"
"Now, you believe it?" Jhanvi asks him sadly.
"I didn't believe it?" Omkara asks in shocked whisper. How could he distrust Gauri?
Jhanvi shakes her head in negative.
"Will you please tell me what had happened?" Omkara asks her helplessly. "I don't know what happened. I know Gauri is angry with me."
"Angry?" Jhanvi asks in astonishment. "Anger is too small a word for what she feels towards you. I believe she hates you now."
"Gauri hates me?" Omkara asks his eyes filling up and his heart breaking. "Gauri hates me?"
Seeing her son so helpless and in pain, Jhanvi lovingly keeps her hand on his cheek. "What happened to you, Om? Why did you do what you did? Why did you abandoned Gauri when she needed you the most?"
Without even knowing what he did, Omkara starts feeling guilty and tears flow from his eyes. "Did I cheat on her?"
Jhanvi shakes her head in negative. Jhanvi takes his hand and leads him to the seats and sits down with him.
Omkara sighs in relief. "Ridhima had come. Do you know her?"
Jhanvi nods her head. "She is your best friend. You both grew up together. Everyone, me, her family and maybe even Ridhima did believe that one day you both would get married. But from the moment you met Gauri, you had become hers."
"Ridhima said that she is my fiancé." Omkara tells her.
"She did?" Jhanvi asks surprised then shrugging she says. "I don't know. I stopped talking to you when you filed for divorce and you had moved out of the house when I refused to throw Gauri out. So, maybe after that you both might have got engaged. I don't know. I've lost all my faith in you."
"I was going to divorce Gauri? I wanted to throw her out of our house?" Omkara asks in shock.
"Yes."
"Why?" Omkara asks his eyes filling up, his heart breaking at his cruelty to wards Gauri.
"Gauri's one colleague, Ajay, I don't know what he said or how he convinced Ridhima that he was having an affair with Gauri. Ridhima believed him and told you immediately. And you believed Ridhima. You accused Gauri of adultery and marrying you for money. Ajay had told Ridhima that Gauri had married you only to divorce you later and claim huge alimony from you. That Gauri still secretly met him. You believed it all."
"I did?" Omkara asks shocked, how can he trust someone else over Gauri?
"You filed for divorce. We found out that Gauri is pregnant and in court you said you didn't believe the baby was yours." Jhanvi tells him, her eyes filling up with tears. "Gauri fainted hearing that."
Tears start dropping from his eyes hearing about what he did to Gauri. This was why, Gauri had been so distant towards him all this while. Not because he lost his memory, it was because he had lost his way.
"Court ordered a DNA test and the test proved that the baby is yours." Jhanvi tells him. Then looking at him angrily, she tells him, "When you realized the baby is yours, you told Gauri that you will file for full custody of your baby and will not even let Gauri see your child. That night, she ran away from home."
Hearing what he did to Gauri and what all she had gone through, Omkara breaks into tears. Jhanvi just watched her son cry his heart out.
**********
Omkara opens the door and sees Gauri sitting on the floor. He walks to her and kneels in front of her.
"Gauri..." Omkara softly calls her as he cried softly.
Gauri looks up at him with tear stained face. Then looking down, she lifts up his wallet that she had been holding. She opens it and takes out the visiting card.
"I was born and raised in an orphanage in Cochin. I lived there all my life. After college, I got a job in Mumbai. I left everything here and went there to start my life. At my office, I met Ajay. He was my team leader and a friend. He proposed me one day but I rejected him as I didn't feel anything like that for him. After that, he had been very distant towards me and professional. I didn't mind. The truth was I didn't care because he was just a friendly colleague to me, nothing more." Gauri tells him.
Then she extends the visiting card to him. "You were changing your company portfolio and I became a part of that project because you wanted a new visiting card. I designed this."
Omkara takes it and looks at the elegant visiting card. He reads it and other than his name, he didn't recognize anything else.
"From the moment we met, we were drawn to each other." Gauri says sadly then laughing softly she says, "You said we were soulmates."
Omkara nods because in his heart, he knew they were.
"We were so happy. So in love. We got married. Our life was so perfect." Gauri says as tears fell from her eyes. "You had to go out of the country and that time I had an office party. I went for that. I had fun there, dancing and all. I danced with Ajay too that day. Because it was a fun party. Then few days later, we had a client meeting at a hotel. I went with Ajay to the hotel. The client couldn't come and we left from the hotel. Ridhima saw us leaving the hotel together and she confronted Ajay. I don't know why Ajay lied to her that I was having an affair with him, maybe because I had rejected him before. He told her that I slept with him and was still sleeping with him, and I met him every time you were away. He showed her the photos from the party and some morphed photos. That I married you to get rich and I will divorce you soon and take half your property as alimony. Ridhima started suspecting me. Ridhima came to me and we were speaking casually when she asked me about moles."
Gauri looks at Omkara then she keeps her hand on the side of her breast. "I don't know how Ajay knew it, but he had told Ridhima that I've a mole here as a proof of our affair. She came to you with her suspicions and seeing the photos and hearing about the mole, and Ridhima had been your best friend since childhood, and she has been with you through thick and thin, so, you believed what she believed."
Omkara gulps hearing that. He trusted his best friend and a colleague of Gauri over Gauri?
"Ma didn't believe any of it. She trusted me. But you didn't trust me. You wanted to throw me out of the house, Ma asked you to get out and you left home. You filed for divorce. In court you said that this baby is not yours." Gauri says as she kept her hand over her stomach. "I started hating you then, Omkara. I died that moment." Gauri tells him as she cried.
"When it was proved in court that the baby is yours, even then you didn't believe me. You just believed that the baby was yours. You said that you would take my baby away from me. I ran away from home. I had nowhere else to go."
Gauri looks at him and tells him, "You wanted to come to Kerala for our honeymoon as that was my place, and Wayanad was a place I had never been to, so we came here for honeymoon. I was scared to go to Cochin as I thought that would be the first place you would look for me. So, I came here thinking you wouldn't look for me here. But you found me here."
"I came to see you that day." Omkara says understanding.
Gauri nods. "You were so drunk. And so furious that I had ran away. You threatened me that wherever I go, you'll find me and take my baby away from me. You met with the accident when you were leaving."
"And you took me to the hospital?" Omkara asks as he felt his heart break.
"When the doctor said that you had no memory, I thought, maybe as long as you didn't remember who you were then my baby would be with me. If you went back then you will find out everything and again come for my baby. Wherever I hide, you will find me and take my baby away. So, I thought I will keep you here and my baby will be with me."
"Still you gave me my medicines on time, Gauri." Omkara tells her as his heart broke.
Gauri looks at him helplessly then she says, "You can get million other girls, Omkara. You can have baby with anyone of them. This baby is all I have. Please, go from here, Omkara."
"I love you, Gauri." Omkara tells her as he held her hand.
Gauri frees her hand from his. "If you truly loved me then you wouldn't have punished me like this. And what was my crime? That I loved and trusted the wrong man?"
"Please forgive me, Gauri. I don't know why I did what I did. I don't know why I didn't trust you. Maybe I loved you too much that the thought that someone else was in your life, that it made me insane."
"And you were going to marry Ridhima." Gauri reminds him as she cried.
"No, Gauri, I can never love anyone else. I'll never marry anyone else. You said I was drunk, maybe I had been drinking too much those days and in a drunken moment I might have said that. But please believe me, Gauri, I will not marry anyone else in my senses. I forgot myself, but my heart didn't forget my love for you. Please Gauri, please forgive me and take me back." Omkara pleads her.
"What's the use? The moment you remember everything, you will accuse me and abandon me again. I can't trust you again, Omkara."
**********
"I wanted to tell you that Omkara was here. Many times, I started calling you but I just didn't know, I couldn't tell you. I couldn't ask you to be a part of this deceit." Gauri tells Jhanvi. "I'm sorry, you were so worried and scared for him."
"I actually thought he had gone searching for you. I was worried for you, not him. I didn't think he was in danger or had met with an accident." Jhanvi tells her.
"How did you know that Omkara is here?" Gauri asks Jhanvi.
"I called up the commissioner in Mumbai to find out about the updates of Omkara's missing case. He said that the police from here had contacted them that Om was here. He said that Omkara had an accident and has no memory and is with his wife now. He said when Ridhima had checked up with him, he had given her all the updates and she had come here to bring Om home. But since Om refused to come, and even though he filed for divorce, you were still Om's legal wife. Police said they couldn't do anything without a court order. And Ridhima was trying to get the court order. I got the address from him and came here." Jhanvi tells her.
"Ridhima didn't tell you that they found Omkara?" Gauri asks surprised.
"No." Jhanvi shakes her head. "She stopped talking to me because I believed you."
"She was angry with you." Gauri replies softly.
Hearing the bell, Gauri curiously gets up and walks to the door. She opens the door and stops in shock seeing Ajay at the door.
"What are you doing here?" Gauri asks furiously.
"I came for you, Gauri." Ajay tells her as he started to come inside.
"Don't you dare come inside. Get the hell out of my house." Gauri furiously tells him.
Hearing her, Omkara and Jhanvi curiously comes to check who it is.
"What happened, Gauri? Are you angry with me because I refused to accept his baby as mine?" Ajay asks sadly seeing Omkara.
"What?" Gauri shouts out in shock and outrage.
"He wants his baby. Let him take the baby. We'll be together as we had dreamed." Ajay tells her.
"Is this Ajay?" Omkara asks Gauri.
Gauri looks at Omkara then she nods her head.
Furious, Omkara punches Ajay. Ajay falls back by the force of the punch. Omkara steps out and starts beating up Ajay.
"Omkara, stop it!" Gauri shouts as she ran out.
Jhanvi also runs behind her as she shouted at Omkara to stop.
"How dare you make up stories about my wife? How dare you slander my Gauri?" Omkara asks furiously as he beat him up.
Gauri stops in shock hearing him. "You're the one who slandered me, Omkara." Gauri tells him.
Omkara stops in shock hearing her. He turns to look at her filled with guilt and helplessness.
"He just said some stories. You are the one who crucified Gauri." Jhanvi tells him. "Let him go. He doesn't matter."
Guilt ridden, Omkara steps back and Ajay scrambles to his feet and runs off for his dear life.
**********
"How did he know that you are here?" Omkara asks Gauri curiously later.
Gauri turns to him in outrage and tells him. "I didn't tell him."
"I know, Gauri." Omkara tells her quickly. "I'm not suspecting you. I'm just curious and wondering how he found you. Even my mother didn't know that you are here then how did he find you?"
"I don't know." Gauri tells him, not wanting to waste her time and energy on Ajay.
"How did I find you?" Omkara asks her.
"Private investigator."
"And Ajay... did the same?" Omkara asks thoughtfully.
"I don't know. And I don't care." Gauri starts to walk off.
"And Ridhima knows Ajay." Omkara gently points out.
Gauri turns to Omkara in shock. "You are suspecting Ridhima now?"
Omkara gently shrugs. "She started this all."
"I don't know. Ridhima is your best friend. And you trusted her above me." Gauri tells him and walks off.
**********
"I'm thinking of taking Om back with me." Jhanvi tells Gauri the next morning.
Gauri nods.
"I'll not come without Gauri." Omkara declares.
Jhanvi looks at him then she looks at Gauri who was staring at Omkara. Jhanvi gently runs her hand over her head. "You also come with us, Gauri."
"No, Ma. I am fine here." Gauri says as she looked down sadly.
"I didn't ask you why you ran away, Gauri." Jhanvi gently reminds her. "When he said that he would fight for custody I told you I'll support you. He was not the only one with power and money, even I've them. Then why didn't you trust me? Why did you ran away?"
Gauri looks at her and shakes her head as she cried. "It's not that, Ma. When he threatened to take my baby away from me, it killed me. The thought that my baby won't be with me... I couldn't even think of it. And you had left your son for me. I understood your pain, Ma. I realized that for me to keep my baby you'll have to lose your son. And I couldn't be selfish with you, Ma."
Hearing her, Jhanvi hugs her as she sobbed. "Why didn't my son see your truth, Gauri?"
Omkara walks to her and falls on his knees. "Please, Gauri. Give me a chance. Please don't do to me what I did to you."
Hearing him, Gauri helplessly looks at him.
"Come with us, Gauri. Your life is there. Your family is there." Jhanvi tells her.
**********
Omkara walks into his bedroom and the first thing he noticed was the huge photo hung over the bed. It was their wedding photo. They were dressed like a Kerala couple. They were hugging each other and had coconut leaf glasses on their face as they happily smiled for the camera.
Omkara's heart breaks seeing Gauri's smile. He has never seen Gauri smile like that. The truth was he hasn't seen Gauri smile.
Looking around the room, he notices that most of the things were feminine and Kerala oriented. He had embraced everything that Gauri was then why did he think her a fallen woman and abandoned her?
**********
Omkara watches Gauri as she sat with his mother in the back garden and talked. Every few minutes, he sees her gently caressing her stomach. She was about 6 months pregnant now. He couldn't imagine the hell she had gone through for all these months. They have been home for three days and Gauri hadn't spoken a word to him. He was watching her when suddenly,
"Om, Gauri... come, tea is ready." Jhanvi called out.
"Coming!" Gauri shouts back then turning to look at him mischievously, she says. "Let's race, Omkara."
He chuckles hearing that and just then she pushes him to the side and races of laughing happily.
Laughing, he runs behind her and he was about to defeat her when he slows down and lets her win.
"I won! I won!" Gauri laughs as she jumped excitedly then seeing him just catching up to her, she says "You've no stamina and speed."
Cheekily grinning, he whispers to her, "You've been draining me of my stamina and energy, Succubus."
Gauri gasps loudly as she turned to look at his mother to see if she heard him, then sighing in relief, she hits him then happily, she holds his hand and leads him to the chair.
Omkara stops in shock, realizing that he was starting to remember his memories. He felt his eyes fill up and his heart beat fast in fear, realizing that he was going to remember with vivid details what he did to Gauri.
**********
"What am I going to say to the press?" Omkara asks shocked.
The press had found out that he was back and wanted to speak to him.
"Just tell them that you are fine and had been recovering from an accident." Jhanvi tells him.
When he hesitated, Jhanvi tells him, "Till you give them what they want, they will keep hounding you. Just go and speak to them for two minutes."
Nodding his head, Omkara walks out of his house to face the press.
"They said it is live." Jhanvi tells Gauri, as she hurriedly switched on the TV and browsed the channels.
Few minutes later, they saw Omkara on screen as he spoke to the press.
"Mr. Oberoi, what had happened to you?"
Hearing the question, Omkara puts up his hand to stop them. Then he says, "I was in Kerala. I had met with an accident and had been recovering from it. My wife, Gauri was looking after me and helping me recover."
Gauri stops in surprise hearing him mention her.
"Why didn't you and she inform the family about it? Why were you missing?"
"Didn't feel like informing the world about it." Omkara replies. "I was getting better. I wanted to do it with privacy."
Then he turns to walk back inside.
"Are you back together with your wife?"
Omkara stops and turns to look at the group. He didn't know who asked that question, but he answers, "Not yet. It is not going to be easy for my wife to forgive me and forget what I did to her. I'm hopeful and praying to God that she will forgive me one day."
"You believe you wronged your wife?" Someone asks him.
Omkara's eyes fill up. "Yes, my wife is a chaste and honest woman. Someone accused her of a heinous crime and instead of defending her, her honor and my baby, I joined them and accused her. I know, I don't deserve her or her forgiveness, but I'll not stop striving to achieve it till the moment I die."
Gauri felt her eyes fill hearing that. A little bit of her pain easing away, but there was too much pain to ease away. She looks up and sees Omkara watching her. She sighs in relief as she looked at him.
**********
"Omkara!" Ridhima calls out as she ran to him and hugged him.
Omkara immediately pushes her away. "What are you doing?" Omkara asks her irately.
"Why are you behaving like this, Omkara?" Ridhima asks him hurt.
"I already told you that I am married." Omkara reminds her.
"Omkara, you were going to divorce her." Ridhima tells her.
"No, I am not." Omkara tells her. "I love Gauri and I am not leaving her."
"What about me?" Ridhima asks him hurt.
Hearing that, he gently says, "Gauri and Ma told me that you are my best friend."
"Yes."
"I don't remember that. I am sorry I am being blunt but I don't remember you or this friendship." Omkara tells her.
"With treatment your memory will return." Ridhima tells him.
"Yeah maybe, but I don't want to be friends with you anymore."
"What?" Ridhima asks in a shocked whisper.
"Every time I see you, I am reminded of what I did to Gauri. Even you were a reason for what I did." Omkara tells her.
"I'm your best friend. It was my duty to tell you." Ridhima heatedly argues.
"Yeah. But right now, I just want to be with Gauri. Please don't come here again."
"When you get your memory back, you are going to regret you said all this to me." Ridhima tells him with tear filled eyes.
"Not as much as I regret what I did to Gauri." Omkara tells her.
Ridhima leaves in shock. Omkara turns to go to his room when he notices Gauri standing by the door.
"I never had a problem with your friendship with Ridhima. She was my friend too before all this happened." Gauri tells him.
"I don't feel comfortable with her." Omkara tells her.
"She has been your friend since you were in kindergarten." Gauri tells him.
"Maybe, but now when I look at her, all I see is what I did to you."
Gauri sighs and turns and walks back into her room.
Gauri sits on her bed when she hears him come inside. She curiously look at him.
Omkara walks to her and kneels in front of her. "I can't seem to trust her."
"Why?" Gauri asks shocked. "You always said that she has your best interest in heart."
"You all say she is my best friend but she didn't meet me like that. She said she was my fiancé." Omkara points out.
"Maybe you guys got engaged." Gauri sadly tells him.
"I don't think I can ever do that, Gauri. If my memory loss couldn't wipe away my love for you, I don't think anything in this world can."
"Maybe like you said, you were drunk." Gauri tells him.
"Possible. If she is as genuine as you and Ma believe her to be."
"You don't believe that?"
"I am not able to." Omkara helplessly tells her.
"Why?"
"She is the one who told me about Ajay. And she claims to be my fiancé. She seems to be in love with me. It all just..." Omkara stops as he looked at her.
Gauri's heart skips a beat. She had genuinely thought that Ridhima was mislead by Ajay. What if Ridhima was behind all that? "Why didn't you ask her?"
"I accused you once. I didn't want to repeat the same. What if I am wrong?" Omkara worriedly asks her.
"So, what are you going to do?" Gauri asks.
"Regarding her?"
Gauri nods.
"Nothing. She doesn't matter."
"She did." Gauri tells him.
"Only you matter, Gauri."
Gauri looks away as her eyes filled up.
"Will you ever be able to forgive me, Gauri?" Omkara asks her as his eyes filled up.
"I don't know. It is so hard."
"Then don't forgive, Gauri. But please take me back."
"I can't trust you, Omkara. Once your memory returns. Everything will be like before and you would threaten to take my baby away from me." Gauri tells him sadly.
"It will not be like before, Gauri. I promise you."
"I can't take that risk with my baby."
"Even if my memory returns, Gauri. How am I going to forget that after all that I did, after I threatened you with our baby, when you saw me at the accident, you didn't walk away. You could have gone away and let me die then you would have a peaceful life. But you didn't. You saved me."
Gauri stops hearing him.
"How can I forget that, you lied to me that we were a happy couple and took me away from my life and wanted me to not remember anything. But still, you gave me my medicines on time. Did everything that you could for my treatment. Even after everything that I did, you couldn't do injustice to me. A Gauri who couldn't be cruel to a cruel Omkara, how can I ever believe that she could betray an Omkara who was so deeply in love with her?" Omkara asks as tears ran down in face.
Hearing him, Gauri sobs. "I am scared to trust you again, Omkara."
Heart broken, Omkara leaves from there.
**********
Two days later, Omkara comes to see Gauri.
"You said you couldn't trust me." Omkara says as he looked down.
Gauri looks at him, and Omkara looks at her. Then he quickly looks away, unable to meet her eyes.
Omkara extends some papers to her.
"What is this?" Gauri asks him.
"I've signed off all my rights to our baby. You have absolute custody of our baby. And all the babies we would ever have." Omkara tells her.
With shaking hands, Gauri takes the papers from him. She gulps as she fought her tears and the relief.
"Don't forgive me, Gauri. Don't forget also. I don't deserve either. But please, don't leave me. Let me heal you. Let me love you like how you deserve and how I want to. Please Gauri, I swear, nothing in this world can shake my faith in you."
"It is going to take time." Gauri tells him as she cried.
"I know. I also know that you said you hate me, but I know you still love me. I have felt it in your care, when you look at me. In your tears. I have felt it, Gauri." Omkara tells her. Then he pleads, "Please give me a chance to make you happy again, Gauri."
Tears rolling down her face, Gauri confesses. "I came back for you. You were pleading and I couldn't refuse."
A sob breaks out of Omkara hearing that. "Can I hug you, please?"
Gauri nods as she moved into his arms and Omkara hugs her tight.
"Thank you." He says as if in prayer.
**********
Omkara hugs Gauri. "I'll be back soon. I promise."
Gauri smiles hearing him. "There is one more month for the delivery. You relax and finish your work and come."
"Yeah but, the books I've read. It all said that the final month is the most tiresome." Omkara tells her.
"You should stop reading these books and googling full time about pregnancy." Gauri tells him smiling. "You can be a certified gynecologist now."
Omkara blushes hearing that.
"When we come back, we can have a party for our first wedding anniversary." Omkara tells her excitedly.
"No party." Gauri says shaking her head.
"Oh." Omkara nods wondering if Gauri was still hesitant to meet people after what happened so publicly between them.
Seeing his face fall, she quickly says. "It's not that. I get tired so fast nowadays and I just don't have the energy to entertain so many people."
"Okay then." Omkara says smiling. "We'll plan something. Just you and me then."
"Yes." Gauri smiles. "You are getting late. Go."
Omkara kisses her. "I'll see you soon. Take care, okay?"
"Yes!"
Omkara gently caresses her stomach then leaning down, he kisses the baby. "Papa will be back soon."
**********
15 hours later, Omkara's flight lands. As he walked towards immigration, he decides to call Gauri and check on her. Then decided against it. It would be night there and she would be sleeping. So, instead he calls his mother. Knowing she would be pissed that he woke her up from her sleep. Still he calls.
"Om." Jhanvi answers the call on first ring itself.
"Is Gauri okay?" Omkara asks worriedly hearing the relief in her voice.
"Her water broke and she is in labor now." Jhanvi tells him.
"What?" Omkara asks as his heart skipped a beat. "But there is till 5 more weeks."
"No, Om. It is happening now." Jhanvi tells him.
"Oh no." Omkara stops and turns to run back to the flight then realizing, he turns around and runs to immigration. "Ma, please call my assistant and ask him to put me on the next available flight."
"You are coming back?" Jhanvi asks shocked.
"Of course."
"What about work?"
"Gauri needs me, Ma."
"By the time you reach, she would have delivered."
"I'm coming." Omkara says as he pushed people away and started running.
**********
Three hours later, Omkara boards a flight to Mumbai.
"Ma, I boarded. How is Gauri?"
"Still in labor."
Omkara sighs in fear. He was so far away from her. He couldn't help her or be with her when she needed him. Omkara closes his eyes as he prayed for Gauri and their baby.
In that long flight back home, Omkara realized that God's punishment for him was not over. The fear, worry and panic he was experiencing now with no news of Gauri was worse than all the physical punishment he could ever go through.
**********
"Ma, how is Gauri?" Omkara asks as he ran out of the flight.
"She and the baby are fine. Five minutes after you boarded, she gave birth." Jhanvi tells him happily.
Omkara sighs in relief as his eyes filled up. "Thank you, God."
"Om, I've to go now. It is time for the feed and I have to help Gauri." Jhanvi tells him and hangs up.
**********
Omkara softly opens the hospital room door and walks in. He stops seeing Gauri holding their baby and lovingly looking at the baby. He sighs in relief and thanks God again for all his blessings. Gauri looks up and seeing Omkara, she smiles at him.
"Papa is here." Gauri softly whispers to the baby then looking up, she tells Omkara, "she was awake till now."
"She?" Omkara asks as he smiled.
Gauri nods.
"You be here. I'll go home and come back soon." Jhanvi tells him and leaves.
Omkara walks to the bed and sits next to Gauri. Then leaning, he kisses Gauri's forehead.
Gauri smiles at him, "Good thing you were not here, I was so worried that you won't be able to handle watching me go through labor. And you kept insisting that you wanted to be with me."
Omkara chuckles and asks worriedly. "Was it so bad?"
Gauri smiles and tells him, "I have been through better."
Omkara chuckles then he looks at their daughter. Gauri extends the baby to him. He picks up the baby.
The first thought, that came to his mind was the day in court when he had said that the baby wasn't his. Looking at his daughter and remembering that, he breaks into sobs.
"I am sorry, my love. I am so sorry." Omkara whispers as he kissed her forehead.
Gauri watches Omkara cry and asks him gently, "when did you get your memory back, Omkara?"
Omkara looks up at her in shock and says, "how did you know?"
"You had no difficulty adjusting back into your office and life. I was suspicious. Why didn't you tell me?"
"You still hadn't recovered from what I did. If you realized I remembered everything then you will relieve the pain again and I couldn't do that to you." Omkara tells her guiltily.
"When?"
"That night you said you couldn't trust me again." Omkara tells her.
Gauri stares at him in shock, "two days later, you gave me her full custody."
"And all the babies that we would ever have."
"You should have just told me, Omkara."
"After I gave you the custody, you were no longer worried about what would happen if I got my memory back. So I thought why make you go through the pain again."
"And Ridhima? What do you think?" Gauri asks, that was one question that she didn't have an answer too.
"After I got my memory back, I met her once. I wanted to know if I had agreed to marry her when I was drunk because I couldn't remember ever doing it. I spoke to her acting as if my memory hadn't returned and said that if in a drunken moment if I proposed her, then she should forget it. And she said I wasn't drunk. When I realized that she loves me, I was so heart broken that she went through so much pain for me while I chose a cheating Gauri over her. And I gave her a grand proposal." Omkara tells her in disgust.
"What?" Gauri whispers in shock.
"I told her never to show me her face again."
"You did?"
Omkara nods. "I have been thinking and trying to piece together what she was thinking. When the police told her that I have no memory, she might have thought that she could claim to be my fiancé and get married to me. When my memory returns maybe she thought she could lie that I proposed her when I was drunk or something like that."
"So, she was involved with Ajay? But how did she even know him?"
"I had once mentioned to her that your team leader had once proposed you and you had rejected him."
"Hmmm."
"I think she sent him to your house that day. When she realized Ma had come, she knew I would realize without any doubt that you are my wife and the issues we had. So she sent him so, I would react like before."
"Oh."
"Ridhima didn't come to confirm whether you had a mole. She came to find out of a mole that only you and I will know." Omkara guiltily tells her. "I trusted her too much, Gauri. In schools and college, she always backed me up, covered up for me and protected me. I blindly trusted her. I am sorry."
"She betrayed you and you just let her go?" Gauri asks him.
"You and Ma are right. What I did to you and our baby, it was my sins and crimes. Not theirs. Who am I to punish her when I am the biggest culprit?"
"I guess the biggest punishment for her is that you cut her out completely. Before she was at least your friend but now she lost that too."
"She wanted to remove you from my life and now she is out of my life." Omkara nods.
"Let's forget all that." Gauri tells him smiling, "how long is our darling going to go on without a name?"
Omkara smiles hearing that. "So, what is the name?"
"You tell me." Gauri tells him smiling.
"Gauri, you have absolute right over her and our children." Omkara tells her.
"I tore up those custody papers long back."
"You trust me?" Omkara asks shocked, his eyes filling up again.
"I am getting there, Omkara."
"Then why did you?"
Gauri lovingly smiles at him. "I wanted to trust you, Omkara. And I realized that as long as I have those papers, I am not going to truly trust you ever."
"You didn't have to do that, I don't deserve all this."
Gauri smiles at him and wanting to change the topic, she asks "Name?"
Omkara smiles hearing that happily.
"Even I will sleep off." Gauri grumbles, Omkara has been researching on names for a long time now.
"Adanna." Omkara says as looked up at Gauri.
"What? What does it even mean?" Gauri asks frowning.
"Father's daughter." Omkara tells her nervously.
Gauri realized that the name didn't stand for their daughter being more of a father's girl than a mother's girl. It was Omkara's desire to scream out to the world again and again that she is his daughter.
"Do you like it?" Omkara asks her softly.
Gauri looks at her sleeping daughter and lovingly calls her. "Adanna Omkara Singh Oberoi."
*** The End***
I hope you guys liked this story.
I am planning to start a series called "Abandoned" where the hero leaves his wife/girlfriend for whatever reason and then they get back together. But please be warned that those Omkara are not going to grovel or redeem even as much as this Omkara did.
