Chapter TWENTY FOUR
The sun was looking over the edge of the trees, casting down a gloom over the ground.
The bottom of Harin's pads hurt from walking, but he was determined on going to the destination he was so keen on arriving at.
He couldn't pick up their scent which worried him a little, but he knew the path.
It was very familiar. He went to pick berries here with Kanghyun before, and Kanghyun knew this forest the best.
Sniffing the ground, he tried to find any old scents, but he couldn't seem to do so.
He in general just felt weaker - but that was probably because of his travelling. He'd be fine with a rest after.
He was always alert, making sure nothing jumped him from behind. He didn't need any last minute surprises.
His paws seemed to guide him the right way, as the gravel between his pads began feeling extra familiar.
The dent in the trees, the vines shooting out.
He saw a couple of crows fly past, cawing a screeching song, which made his ears curl up.
He kept on padding on, tail swaying behind him as the feeling of familiarity grew stronger with each step.
Finally, he emerged into a clearing.
There it was.
OneWe's Camp.
If wolves could grin, the smile would be taking up his whole snout.
He rushed down, legs landing heavy on the solid ground filled with light dust.
He saw the broken down den that was given to him by the pack - it looked as rusty as ever.
Harin, however, couldn't pick up their scents.
He searched through all the dens, but all he was met with was dark rooms.
Even Kanghyun's lab was left opened, with no source of light.
"Well? How are we feeling?"
He whipped around, seeing his father there, sitting. He looked unnaturally calm.
"What the fuck did you do to them?!" He shouted, with pure anger laced in his tone.
"Me? Harin, I didn't touch them. I'm not a murderer. Nor am I a kidnapper"
"LIAR! You always get involved! Where are they?!"
"Fool! I'm telling you the truth!" His father snapped, getting up.
Harin growled lowly and kept his ground, teeth bared and claws sheathed as his father started circling the camp.
"A day like this would come, surely, son? I told you" His father said, with almost a teasing tone.
"What are you on about?"
His father laughed.
"You need to realise. A pack without an alpha isn't a pack. All non alpha packs will be sucked into a bigger, more capable pack. They had no chance of keeping up with this act-"
"If you took them under your wing, I'm going to kill you right here and right now" Harin spat out.
"I would never do such a thing. I don't need them all that much. I have over 10 Alphas in my pack, what would I need of those puny little asses?"
"Hang on, why are you telling me all of this? Why the fuck do I need to know this?- WHY am I even conversing with you by this point? You KILLED my mother, and I'm still in contact with you?!" Harin said, ready to advance at any second.
Again, his father laughed.
"Harin, tell me something. How are you still alive?"
The other took it as a weird question- what did he even mean by that?
"What?"
"Tell me, how are you still alive?"
"What are you-"
"Think about it. Any normal wolf would die without their hand. Or, that time you got slammed into the rock because of the stag? Your back got pierced with a jagged edge, right? Or. Or when you got hit with the paralyzing arrow in the spine! Any normal wolf would've been paralyzed for the rest of their life, no matter the strength of the poison. Or when you fell down the waterfall! I was so sure you died. Because Harin. No one could've survived such a fall"
"Why did your hand heal so quickly? It was broken, dismantled. It should've been amputated. Yet.. yet here you are.
All well and so"
Harin glanced down at his stitched up arm.
Hadn't that all just been the Alpha traits? Alphas were much more stronger than normal wolves.. so..?—
"Harin. Listen to me. All those years of over working you. I didn't do it for anything. I wanted you dead. You understand? Dead. I was jealous. I won't hide it. I was incredibly jealous. I was supposed to be a regenerator, you understand? But no.. the genes skipped me. I wanted you dead the second I sensed your abilities. This hasn't changed at all"
His father had started laughing maniacally, which freaked Harin out a little, but he puffed his chest out, trying to stay tough.
"I want you dead. And I will have you dead. I'm almost sure that this time you will die"
Before Harin could react, his face was slashed and he fell to the ground, an insane amount of pain pulsing through his snout and eyes.
This pain was unbearable, something he never encountered before.
"The stuff I packed my claws with will kill you. My healer told me. He never fails me.. I've finally got reign over this damned territory. Years of trying to get you out of the way, and now. Now my dreams have come true"
A shadow of his father shone down onto him, but he could barely hear or see by this point - his mind was focusing on the pain.
"You'll meet your mommy soon"
Those were the last things he heard before he completely passed out, black encasing his vision and then a menacing silence following after.
