Chapter TWENTY FIVE
"I cannot believe this is an actual thing we have to face in our life time" Yonghoon said, breathless.
OneWe were looking down the mountain that Harin fell down.
The trees there were ablaze with fire, the flames engulfing them and just burning the path in front of them.
"What the hell caused this?!" The panicked voice of Dongmyeong came.
"No clue.. I've never seen a forest fire get this bad before" Cya gulped.
Kanghyun stayed silent, knowing that there was no point in joining the conversation.
It felt like his life was over.
"We need to evacuate. It's spreading fast" Yonghoon declared.
"Evacuate? Where?"
"There's a territory past the reservoir, there's no way the fire will get there. Fire hardly travels on water, does it? Unless oil spills have been detected in said water, but there has not been an oil leak" He said, turning away from the destruction.
"A whole new territory? Do you think the neighbouring packs will welcome us there?" Dongmyeong piped up.
"Who the hell cares if they do or don't? We're on the brink of life and death. We need safety, and if they have brains they'll know that's what the packs from here would be doing" Yonghoon stated, nudging them on.
"You're right.. alright, it's settled. God, am I gonna miss this place" Cya sighed, looking at the trees around him.
"We all will. This has been our first, true home. But now.. a new life has to open past the reservoir. There's no avoiding it"
"Guys"
The other 3 wolves turned their attention to Kanghyun, who had finally spoke up.
"Can we go to our camp? Just.. just once more before we leave? Please?" The omega mumbled, with pleading eyes.
The 3 looked at eachother and then Cya looked back at Kanghyun.
"We'll go there. There might be some stuff we need to pick up before we leave, but we need to hurry. The fire isn't up the mountain yet, but we'll need to go down anyway so we can take the quicker route to the reservoir" He said, getting up
Kanghyun nodded and too, got up.
The others lifted themselves from their sitting position and headed down the path that lead to their camp, feeling around for everything they did here.
They finally arrived.
It looked so.. empty.
"Do you think my lab will cause an explosion?" Kanghyun said.
"Probably. There's some chemicals there, but it's not gonna be one that blows the whole camp sky high" Yonghoon said as they padded through the empty area.
Yonghoon caught sight of the broken down den, heart aching a little.
It was upsetting to not hear the voice of the Alpha, his snarky comments. Intimidating presence.
He granted them all a sense of.. protection and. Comfort.
Now? It all just was empty and hurting.
He growled to himself, and Kanghyun heard.
"What's wrong?"
"Everything. Maybe if I had been quicker to distract Harin's father then.."
Kanghyun gulped and looked away.
"It wasn't your fault. You couldn't have done anything, both were too strong. Harin wouldn't have wanted you getting this upset over him, would he? Right.." Kanghyun tried comforting him, even though he himself missed the presence of the other.
Yonghoon bit down on his tongue, before shaking himself away from the train of thoughts whistling in his head.
"You're right. Of course you are, thank you. We should start heading down the gravel path" He said, getting up from his lying position.
Kanghyun nodded as Yonghoon called the other two, who had already collected some of their stuff.
"Ready?"
They all nodded and started heading out, when the ground shook.
"Ah, a fucking earthquake?! At this time?!" Cya howled in anger.
"Earthquake my ass!"
The wolves snapped up and got into position when they heard a deep voice.
Harin's father appeared from the trees, jumping down into the camp.
"The fuck do you want, asshole?!" Yonghoon snarled.
"What do I want? I want the little pup you have behind yourself, there"
Yonghoon kept a firm grip on Kanghyun.
"And what do you need him for? Leave us the fuck alone! Don't you see the fire? We're gonna die if we-"
"You're not gonna die, relax! I'm heading to the reservoir too, lads. But I need the pup for a certain spot in my pack. He won't be of any use to you in your pack, anyway. And I need him for an.. important job. Pass the mutt over before I take him from you physically"
"Like hell you'll take Kanghyun, bitch! You'll have to face us before you try!"
The smile faded from the father's mouth, and he sighed, clicking his tongue.
"I really thought we could come to an agreement, son. But it doesn't look like it. Get them!"
Yonghoon felt himself get thrown down, and the weight of the other 2 wolves dropped down beside him too.
A loud yelp was heard, and he could only trash around in annoyance and fear.
"Kanghyun! You fucking monster, GIVE HIM BACK!" The delta growled, trying to get free of the new Alphas restraints.
Harin's father grabbed Kanghyun, laughing at how easy it was to handle him due to his strength.
"You'll be a great addition to my pack. Come on, let's go- And oh! Gentlemen, if you decide you'd like a rematch.. come meet me in the forest down the mountain. Maybe we'll see what I can do about this request of yours"
The father jumped up the hill, and him and his pack mates raced away with Kanghyun, while the 3 quickly got up.
"You have to be joking me!" Cya cursed under his breath some more.
"We can't leave without him, now? Can we? Come on! Move, move!"
The wolves ran, paws pounding against the ground with each thrust of speed.
The wind did them a great deal of speeding them up.
They could see a trail of blood leading down the path to the forest, so they immediately followed.
It was steep, seriously steep. Dongmyeong lost his footing a couple of times, but he picked himself up every time, careful to not slow them down.
They're new mission was to get Kanghyun back from the crazed alpha, and then get the hell out of there and past the reservoir.
Would they make it in time, though?
To be honest, worrying so much makes Yonghoon's head hurt. But it was the only thing he could do now.
He would get Kanghyun back, no matter what happened. No matter what stopped him.
He wasn't giving up this easily, not yet.
