Part III: Chapter 2

Part 2 was rather long wasn't it? I will try to make these chapters shorter but I am not sure if they will be lol (This one definitely isn't but the next ones will be shorter). Whenever I start writing, it just doesn't stop. Funnily enough though, this chapter is giving me writers block because I'm unsure of how to write what I planned out fully. Actually, nvm. I just looked at the plan I had and I managed to get out of that block.

In all honesty, I don't know how I managed to write so much. I'm still half in shock. But I guess, as long as you persevere, you will be able to achieve whatever goal you have.

This chap is gonna be another dialogue heavy one because today, we are going to be explaining a lot. Finally.

Also we have reached 100k words actually now!!!! I'm really happy!!!

............

"Here it is," Marinette said, "Look," she pointed to an excerpt in the book she had retrieved from Caline. It was the same book she had been reading before she was kidnapped.

Adrien took the book from her and read out loud, "There is something out there- someone who decided to play with the dark magics and use it to make these creatures and use them to control what a person would desire, twisting it into their own evil cocoon until the desire became less about what the person wanted, and more about the power they- whomever they could be- could gain," his eyes skimmed over the next words and when he couldn't find what he wanted on the page, he flicked through the other pages, "But it doesn't say who."

"That's because no one knew back then. As you now know, I spent all that time whilst you were imprisoned trying to study every instant and trying to figure out who was controlling the akumas," he nodded, thinking back to their conversations on what she had been doing whilst she had been 'dead' and urged her to continue, "But even before that, I noticed that there was a pattern in where they were coming from."

"One place?"

She looked at him with a grimace on her face, "You won't like it."

He sighed and pinched the bridge of his nose, "I've had my suspicions so just confirm them."

"The area which your father was quote-unquote buried," her fingers moved to make speech marks on either side of her face, "He was my first suspect. And I was mostly sure it was him. But I had no time to confirm it since it was time that our plan went through back then. When I met your mother in the after realm, she confirmed it was."

With a heavy heart, Adrien sunk down against the bookshelf which he had been leaning on and put his head in his hands, "Even in death he has to torment me."

Marinette sat on the floor next to him, not at all caring if she was collecting dust with her clothes. Her prime motive was only to comfort him and so she wrapped her arms around his shoulders and just held onto him. He wasn't crying but regardless, she knew he needed it.

"Whatever happens Adrien, trust that we will get through it all together."

He moved his hands away from his face and stared at her. She raised her eyebrow when he didn't speak but he just shook his head in an amused manner and pressed a kiss on her forehead as a means of gratitude for her sweet words. She retracted her arms and instead rested one of her hands on his bicep, the other around his elbow. Her head leaned on his shoulder and they remained quiet, neither of them even bothering to look through the book.

After a few moments though, Marinette lifted her head and looked up at him, her hands remaining around his one arm, "It's about time, don't you think?"

He gave her a questioning glance, "For what?"

"Luka," she said, pointedly ignoring the way he scrunched his nose at the mention of her former betrothed (though she found it very cute whenever he became this way), "He should be back by now. It's been a few months."

He hummed in agreement, "I think he is. I overheard our officials talking about it after our last meeting about the progress of our troops. They were gossiping like little girls."

"Ooh! What did they say?"

He rolled his eyes, "They had the audacity to wonder if he would try to take you back because you were once betrothed. Of course I would never let him or anyone do so. You are mine, and mine only."

Marinette laughed, always extremely amused when Adrien got particularly possessive of her. Once she stopped laughing she nodded half seriously, though there was still a cheeky smile which she couldn't quite hide away, "I am only yours Adrien. Always."

He gave her a suspicious look and scolded her, "Stop laughing at me. I am the Lune Supreme."

Even more seriously, she nodded again, "Yes, yes. You are the mighty Lune Supreme. I must do everything you say."

"Marinette!" He whined in a chastising tone.

"Adrien!" She mocked similarly, waiting for him to react in a certain way.

She knew him too well because, just as expected she was quickly being held hostage in his arms and he was carrying her hastily out of the library. Pretending like she was unwilling, she kicked her legs at the air and hit her fist against his chest multiple times, but he wouldn't put her down.

"I am not letting you get away with this today," he narrowed his eyes at her but even to onlookers, they wouldn't miss the smile that Adrien couldn't help but have on his face.

Caline shook her head as she watched the God of Destruction carry the Goddess of Creation out of the Royal library- most likely towards his own chambers or at least somewhere away from prying eyes- the both of them laughing joyfully in a manner which reminded Caline of a young Adrien. It was like they were finally seeing the sunshine which followed Emilie everywhere once more.

Caline smiled, and looked up to nowhere in particular, "He looks so happy Emilie."

............

"Today, I have begged an audience with the Grand Emperor and the court in order to discuss something of great importance."

It had been about a month since he had come back. A few months since Marinette had gone to Luneith (in immortal time). Luka had dealt with Creation's requests in the mortal world but he still hadn't been able to fulfil the other ones just yet as he had spent the last few weeks looking for someone, as per Creation's instructions.

"As requested, we will listen to this matter you have deemed important. The court and I, the Grand Emperor of Soleria will promise only to make judgement once we have heard what you need to say God of War."

Luka gave a generous bow, "This God of war thanks my Lord graciously. Before we start, however, I would like to bring one more person into the court."

"Is this person needed for this matter?"

Luka nodded, "Very much so, my Lord. I have brought him today because I believe he will be able to provide a much more detailed explanation for questions many of us have had over these years."

"Questions concerning what exactly?"

Luka sucked in a deep breath and then took one step forward. He held his head up high to address the whole court, but his gaze was fixed on the Emperor, "Concerning the sacrifice of the Goddess of creation."

Shouts of disbelief resonated around him from person to person. He understood. No one had known anything much of Creation's plans to sacrifice herself, only that she expressed it was the last resort and if the time came that she had to, she would. Those who had been there especially expressed their doubts out loud.

"Silence!" The Emperor spoke, immediately hushing the court, "Lord Luka. What is the meaning of your words?"

"Exactly as they are my Lord. There is something you need to know but to do so, there are things which must be explained beforehand. And for that, I must bring one other person into the court."

Although there were still some whispers here and there, most of the focus was on the Emperor, who sat in his throne, deep in thought. He cleared his throat and loudly pronounced, "I authorise the God of War's request to bring an additional person into the Royal Court today."

Relief washed over him and Luka bowed once again before nodding to the guards to open the door for the man who was waiting outside. All around the court, the most trusted officials of Soleria waited with bated breath, wondering who would be able to carry such important information and not immediately inform the Emperor.

In stepped a man with a short build. He wore a large straw hat and, because his head was ducked and the court was stationed on different levels in the room, no one could see more than a long grey beard which was thick at the chin but grew thinner as it reached the length of his torso. It was possibly even longer than his torso from the way it softly fluttered with the wind which entered as he did.

The man wore simple clothes, what looked to have once been white cotton but had been dyed using the natural green of leaves. Some patches of his clothes were lighter and some darker. He wore plain sandals and on his back was a large circular bag, it's contents unknown. He also carried a large branch with him which he used as a walking stick. However it was shaped in a way which suggested it was more than just a wooden branch. It was likely a magical staff, an artefact not many carried or owned in these more modern times.

The man walked to stand besides Luka and slowly, almost long-suffering to watch, he untied the knot which held his hat in place. Once he did, he slid the hat over his face and down, holding it to his stomach. It was someone many of the officials recognised. Many had thought he had either retired or had even died in the years he had been missing.

Bowing, one hand holding the hat, the other holding onto the branch, the man spoke in a clear but gruff voice, "It has been a long time, Grand Emperor."

The Emperor remained stoic, not wanting to indicate to the Court how he felt about the appearance of this man. Still, he gave an affirming nod, "It has, Old Master Fu. It has been quite long indeed."

............

"Luka found him."

Adrien peered over her shoulder to look at the letter she had received, "So things have been set in motion then. Did he mention when he was going in?"

Marinette continued to read through the letter Master Fu had sent her before nodding, "In two days."

"Do we have enough time to grab your friends from the other world?"

"As long as we find the right teleport, we should be fine."

"And what about their memories?"

Marinette sighed, "Ugh. I'm not even sure about that. Do you think I would be able to bring it back for them?"

He patted her head reassuringly, "I'm sure you will. You can do anything you set your mind to," he straightened up and rested a hand on her shoulder, "I'm going to inform the council and leave Felix in charge. And then we can set off."

She stood up from where she was sitting and threw the paper on the table, "I'm coming with you."

............

"I greet the Royal Court of Soleria. I am Master Fu, teacher and guardian of Princess Creation, Goddess of the three realms."

"I will not beat around the bush Master Fu. Do you understand that withholding information of my own niece gives reason to detain you?"

"I do Grand Emperor. And I would even agree," but he then raised I finger in the air, "If it wasn't for one simple fact."

Understandably impatient, the Emperor raised his voice, "And what exactly is that?"

"Think about it my Lord," an easy smile grew at the tips of his lips but to many of the officials found it unnerving, like the man on front of them was untouchable, "I have always been diligent in listening to your orders. But there was only one person whose orders I would take over yours."

Realisation dawned on the Emperor's face, "You mean to tell me that she told you..." he couldn't even finish his words, so astonished that this was something his niece had asked for.

Master Fu cleared his throat and looked around the court, "As of request of Princess Creation herself, I have been in hiding and have withheld information until she deemed it necessary to release that information."

"And that time is now? How are we to know you are telling the truth."

Master Fu had opened his mouth to respond to the random official who had called out so boisterously, but it was Luka who answered in his steed, "I can vouch for him. When I had gone to find him, Master Fu had delivered a letter to me, written by the Goddess herself, explaining to me her decisions during that time and what is needed to be done as of now."

He wasn't lying. Marinette had written a letter long ago which Master Fu had preserved for him and gave once they met- or once Master Fu deemed it time to give. It had provided details, some he already knew, others he had only found out through her letter.

"I will tell you the reason why Princess Creation decided it was important to sacrifice herself."

"We already know why!"

"It's obvious why!"

"Don't tell us useless things!"

"She did it to end the war. What else?"

"Fu. I was under the impression that the only reason my niece sacrificed herself was to end the war by trapping Destruction in the prison she created."

"That is true that it was to end the war. But did you really think it was the only reason my Lord?"

"Explain," the Emperor demanded, preventing himself from showing that he too had always known that it was not the only reason. But he still didn't completely know either. What her reasoning was, he failed to understand in its entirety.

Master Fu obliged, "Creation did want to end the war. That much everyone knows. But, as you know, before I went into hiding- it's been quite a few years now hasn't it," he stroked his beard thoughtfully before continuing, "Moreso during the time before she passed, I spent quite some time researching something which had been a mystery to the people of Soleria since it first begun."

Quick with realisation, as was one of the many qualities of the Emperor, he interrupted, "You are talking about your research into the akuma attacks. But I would have thought you had gotten nowhere with it. You mentioned nothing to me about them for a significant number of years before your hiding."

"Once again my Lord, that was at the request of her Highness. She had also been investigating the akuma attacks."

"And?"

"And we found out a pattern in where they had been coming from."

"Then why did you not do anything about it?!" The Emperor roared out, causing some of the officials to flinch, not expecting such a reaction out of him. Some others agreed and expressed their own impatient remarks towards the short man.

Master Fu raised a hand attempting to imply his need for a calmer audience, "Because there were more pressing matters to deal with. Destruction was winning but imagine what would have happened if he had been in our territory? Imagine what would have happened if, whilst everyone was distracted by the war, whoever was controlling the akumas managed to control Destruction. Not only Soleria, but Luneith would also be destroyed."

Immediately, the room fell into a hush.

"My niece," the Emperor said, leaning his hand on the hand rest of his throne, his head in his hand as if he was nursing a headache, "She did it to protect not only Soleria, but Luneith as well?"

Master Fu could only bow his head with acknowledgement, "She is the most merciful of us all."

The Emperor closed his eyes tiredly, ignoring the flare of hope as Fu referred to his niece in the present, "She was," he opened his eyes again, "And what of the identity of the one who made the akumas?"

"I can answer that my Lord," Luka finally spoke, though there was an edging guilt in his voice which he couldn't quite hide, "I had been akumatised."

Gasps, shouts, exclamations, the usual reaction of the court when something even mildly shocking occurred.

Vexed, the Emperor ordered another round of silence and asked what most of the more quick-witted officials were already wondering, "You said had. Are you not anymore?"

"My Lord, even if he says yes how are you to trust him?"

Quite annoyed, Luka raised his voice so all could properly hear, "If you all just listen to me and not interrupt. I will tell you."

Despite the protests of many, the Emperor nodded at Luka and told him to, "Proceed."

Luka nodded back before beginning his tale, "When I was akumatised, I managed to enter Luneith. There, using the powers that had been granted to me, I was able to turn Destruction's attention away from someone and I was able to kidnap her. That someone was the ladybug fairy, Marinette."

"Luka..." the Emperor sighed. He knew that Luka had grown feelings for that traitor, but he had never expected him to have gone this far.

"I know, my Lord. But I was under the influence. In all honesty, I believe he truly wanted me to drive Marinette away from Destruction. And so I took her to the mortal realm under the guise of receiving punishment."

"That is a big offence you are owning up to."

"And I deserve any other punishment that comes to me."

'Other?' The Emperor wondered, but he decided it would do well not to ask just yet.

"We will talk about this at a later date. For now, please continue."

"As you know, Marinette was able to miraculously turn the akuma back into a simple white butterfly during the practical exams. She was able to do the same to me when I was akumatised. I was able to remember everything that he said to me. Being akumatised, it's not just something or someone in control of you. It's like you share one body. It's like he invades your mind and he imprisons you within. I was trapped within myself," he took a deep breath and brought his hand to his heart trying to use the rhythm of his heart to calm him from a potential breakdown, "But I managed to figure out who he was. Furthermore, it was the person Princess Creation had been suspicious of."

"Just tell us who already!"

Luka almost rolled his eyes, but instead flicked them to the Emperor's own, feeling a slight resentment as he spoke directly, "My Lord. This is a genuine question. Why did you not give a proper burial to the previous Lune Supreme?"

"Why are you asking such a question?"

"You don't have to answer. I just do not understand. Surely you should have realised that the former Lune Supreme, if not well rested in death, would find a way to continue to pour evil into our world? Because that is what he did. Hawkmoth is the very reason that our world continues to be held in turmoil by these creatures. And now, it is only going to get worse. Because Hawkmoth now knows that his son is back. And either he will try to destroy Destruction, or he will use Destruction to destroy everything else. The damage would be greater than anything the three realms have seen," he was breathing heavily by the end of his speech, having become worked up. He had a lot of time to think about it and he had come to understand a lot about what Marinette's actions meant.

It was the truth that she needed to protect Destruction. If she hadn't... an involuntary shudder went through him at the thought. He was well versed in Destruction's abilities, even more now he had a taste of a similar power himself. And now he had learned of the power of Hawkmoth on top of the power he already had, he just hoped that the two were never combined. If they did, there would be no hope.

All there would be was devastation. And then there would be nothing. Not even a speck of dust.

Before even the Emperor could say something Master Fu decided it was time to intervene, "Hawkmoth was the one whom we suspected back then. It was only recently that we could properly confirm it, however. There was another reason for her sacrifice."

Luka let out a laugh, still feeling slightly bitter towards the whole thing, but maybe it was more to himself for not realising sooner, "It was because she wanted to protect him. But you knew that didn't you?" He took a step forward as he found himself glaring at the Emperor, "You already knew that she wanted to sacrifice herself to save Destruction. But you didn't say anything."

"I couldn't stop her," the Emperor interjected, trying himself not to flinch at the venom he could hear in Luka's tone, and then he sat up looking around the room and finding the officials eying him with different levels of uncertainty and doubt.

Decisively, he brought the attention back to the two standing on front of the entire court, "But there is something else isn't there? Something you haven't told me yet."

Luka shared a look with Master Fu, who gently shook his head and whispered a barely audible, "Wait."

The Emperor was agitated. Ever since mention of his niece was brought up, his patience was wearing thinner and thinner, "Why now? Why have you only come forth now to tell me this? I am your Emperor and you have sworn your loyalty to me."

"Of course we have, Grand Emperor. But-"

He raised his voice and pointed an accusing finger at the two, "Then why do you still have the confidence to keep a secret for me?"

"I can answer that," the doors to the court burst open, but the figure was still in the shadows as she spoke, another figure following closely behind, "Simply. I told them to," her voice was so loud. So pronounced. It echoed through the room and bounced around, allowing everyone to hear her.

Something about her voice made the Emperor still.

Absentmindedly, he realised there were no guards in the corridor which they had gained a view of when the door burst open.

The woman stepped out of the shadows and straight into the court, revealing her face to be that of the traitor fairy, Marinette. Who they had just mentioned. Who had been about to pass the trials to become an immortal, but had instead been deemed an enemy of Soleria for being in cahoots with Destruction.

That is what most of the court thought.

But there were a few, including the Grand Emperor himself who knew that this wasn't just the woman who had been in league with Destruction a few years ago. This wasn't just a normal fairy who had an affinity to heal. Who had the ability to purify what no one could before. This wasn't just the girl who had been taken by Destruction in the spectacle which had caused their largest arena and the large area surrounding it to become greatly damaged. A spectacle which had revealed a more intimate relationship between the two and had affirmed everything she had been trying to deny.

No- this was a fairy with very special powers, powers he hadn't seen in a long time. Yet he had seen them. He and everyone else had watched her use the very same powers during her exam, if not just slightly weaker.

Still...

How had he not recognised her?

Spears and arrows and swords pointed towards her but she acted like she wasn't paying attention to them. The only indication that she knew was the flick of her wrist which caused everyone who had been aiming at her to shout despairingly, finding that a suppression field had been placed, strong enough so that no one in the court could break through.

The woman had demonstrated that her power was far greater than most, so she confidently strode past the God of War- who didn't even attempt to grab her, instead giving her an appreciating nod in respect which made most of the officials blanch at the sight in fear- and made her way up the steps to the throne in which the Grand Emperor sat.

Step by step, she walked up the steps, the sound of the heels she had decided to wear echoing loudly in the quiet, like they were hearing a pin drop in a crowded room as clear as day. She made her way to the very top step, onto his platform and no one could say anything. It was like the whole court had become frozen.

She did not bother to bow, she didn't even duck her head slightly in respect, instead she kept her head up high and spoke loudly, "I would apologise for not coming to greet you earlier, but you see, I had much more important matters to deal with," the side of her lips turned up to form a smirk and she cocked her head in an arrogant manner which he would normally attribute to the egotistical manner of Destruction himself. On her it was deadly sweet and he almost flinched at the sight, "You understand, don't you? My dear uncle."

............

Dear Luka,

I do not know when this letter will get to you, but I know it will be well into my timely death, for I do not want you to know anything until... well I am unsure when.

I apologise, for dying. I know you of all people would have had a hard time after my death. And I apologise for the hurt you must have felt once you found out. I also apologise for not waking you from your coma. I partially did it so you didn't stop me, but also so you would recover properly. The coma he put you in did a lot of damage, so I placed a healing circle around you which would help you properly recover as you slept. It should take about 5000 years approximately.

I am afraid, I may hurt your feelings more as you read this letter- or maybe due to time, the contents of this have already reached you as perhaps, even before you open this, I would have come back.

If you are reading this and I am still not back, I will tell you now that yes, you are reading this right. I will come back. Although I have died, it will be a matter of time before my body redeems it's strength and reforms, as I have planned.

The sacrifice- my sacrifice- it had been planned. Even more than you realise.

Oh Sol- I'm sorry Luka. I apologise again. Writing it like this seems so insensitive.

This must be too much for you to understand if I haven't come back yet. And even if you do know, I feel as if saying it will hurt you. For that, I am terribly sorry.

But there is no other way to say it. I'm not sure I could say it any other way. I guess the best way to tell you now is to say it straightforward, even though it may seem rather selfish of me to do so.

Just... take a deep breath and, if you can, continue reading. If not, ask Master Fu first to tell you what I want you to know. He knows basically everything and honestly, he may even explain it better than I can. Perhaps, him telling you may not hurt as much, which I would be grateful for.

But, if you can stomach reading this, please do so. I believe that it may be more important to you that you hear it from me.

It is all planned. Right now as I am writing to you, we have already begun the workings of our plan. In the simplest form: get my uncle to agree to the sacrifice for the sake of Soleria. After many days of arguing, I finally got the permission to do so today- not that I would have listened if he forbade me to do it. No! There is too much at stake.

The only life I can risk to take is my own.

I am the Goddess of Creation. I am the very being who can bring life to a dead forest and let it grow for thousands of more years. I should- no I believe I will be able to bring myself back to life.

But I won't risk anyone else taking damage. Anyone else being hurt. Anyone else fighting.

Which is why I am taking him with me.

In all honesty I hope this gets to you before I come back to life (though it might not be possible considering Master Fu rarely trusts anyone with his location) or before you know where I am if I am already back to life- The process is complicated so I would urge you, once again, to speak to Master Fu about the details but, when I do come back to I will not immediately remember anything. I would just think I am a normal fairy for a while and if this does get to you before, I would hope that you help me.

Though I feel that even if you do not know, you will still be drawn to me in some way. The Fates are horribly funny like that.

I also hope that through this letter you understand why I am doing this.

There are three reasons:

1. I need time but to have it I need to be out of my physical body which would restrain me from achieving one of my goals- that is to figure out how to sanitise the body from an Akuma. Again, Master Fu will give you the details of the particularly gruelling investigation we have conducted in secret over the years. Know this, though. Most recently we had managed to track the pattern of Akumas and trace it to one place. The- as there is no other way to put it- burial site of the former Lune Supreme, Hawkmoth. Though I cannot know for sure it is him as any surviving victims can remember nought from an attack by those butterflies (though my theory is that they cannot remember as they do not have considerable power to- for example, if you or Master Fu, or someone who has cultivated their powers for an extensively long period of time got akumatised and somehow was released from the monstrous butterfly, I believe they would be able to remember, though I hope we will never have to test that theory) I must still find a way to neutralise them regardless of my suspicions. For that I need time and also, to ensure I do not get affected, I need to discard my physical body just for the moment.

2. To end the war. This is the reason you will obviously know about. If this doesn't happen my efforts will all be in vain but I am mostly sure that if I do sacrifice myself in the certain steps I have planned, everything I have arranged for will fall into place.

3. This is the most important reason for myself.

But first of all, I owe you another apology.

I know we are betrothed in the eyes of Soleria. In the eyes of my uncle. In the eyes of the Deities and the Fates. And I know that you have feelings for me. It was natural for you to have them, for everyone around us urged us to get to know each other more. Because eventually we were to be married. It was only a matter of time before we caught feelings. That was what everyone expected at least. And at first, I expected it too.

I'm sorry.

I have to say it blatantly because I do not want to beat around the bush and cause anymore misunderstandings.

I do not have feelings for you in that way.

At first I tried to. I wanted to have feelings for you because I knew the inevitable was going to happen and if I were to have a husband, it would have to be you. There was no other option for me. Don't get me wrong, it's not that I didn't like you. I just... I have never caught feelings for you in the way that I was supposed to.

Luka, you are absolutely lovely and I think you are one of the kindest, most supportive of people in the three realms. I always have thought that way. You are a good man and, for a while, I didn't mind that you were my only option. If this was my fate and the wish of my uncle and my people, I had thought I could easily succumb to it.

Until there was another.

Until he became the only option in my eyes.

He who was arrogant and closed off. He who was supposed to be my enemy. My opposite. Uncle had always expressed that he was my calamity. If I didn't tread carefully, I would meet a dreadful end.

Dying to save him however, I don't think it's quite dreadful.

It happened before we even realised what was going on. One second we were just talking about how we were so tired of all of the expectations there had been on us. How we wished to sometimes just teleport away to a place where no one knew where we could just be ourselves. He understood me in a way my uncle couldn't, in the way you tried but failed to. The next thing we knew, we had reached a deeper level of our relationship. The barriers between us were quickly becoming non-existent. My taste for him had became insatiable to a point where I could barely reach an hour without a thought of him. The longer we were away from each other, the more intense our feelings just grew.

At a point, I found myself not caring for anything regarding marriage if it meant to you. I kept on putting it off on purpose. Because the only one I could see myself marrying was him.

I know you may be thinking, why am I telling you this?

Firstly, I feel like I need to tell you this. I disregarded your feelings for so long, so I feel as if you should know why it happened that way. But I shouldn't have disregarded your feelings either.

For that, I am sorry. You do not deserve what I have done to you and I can only imagine how you must be feeling reading this letter.

There is something you have to understand, however.

Contrary to what most believe, even you, I am rather selfish, perhaps even more than I realised.

I am so, incredibly selfish, but only for one thing.

Destruction is my life. He is more than anyone in Soleria would ever imagine. I would do anything if it were to protect him. And to do that, this time I must sacrifice myself.

The love I have towards him is greater than the three realms combined. I have seen him at his calmest, at his angriest. I have seen him at his happiest and his saddest. He willingly allowed himself to be vulnerable for me, as I have for him.

But I let him down. I let my own frustration prevent me from seeing just how much he needed to be saved. I let ourselves become separated.

I was foolish.

It was because of me this war is continuing the way it did. I blame myself wholeheartedly for it.

If only I had held on just a little more.

I must take responsibility for it all. I must protect him. I must save him. I owe him at least that for not having a little more faith in our love.

I'm truly sorry Luka, that I cannot return your feelings. Not when the extent of my feelings towards him has exceeded that of simple, childish love. I cannot lie to you about it anymore. But my window of time to tell you in person has been closed as you are in a coma and I will only last a few more days, preparing for my own death.

I should have told you before. Truthfully, I am a coward, who right now, only cares for what I want. And I give you full permission to say it to my face. It's the veritable truth, after all.

We will see each other again. And when we do, I sincerely hope we will remain friends, for even if I do not return your feelings, you have been a significant part of my life and I will always care for you.

Which is why I will say this.

Let go of your feelings for me.

I hope in the future you are able to find someone who deserves your attention, unlike myself. I hope that they will be able to understand you in a way I could not and I hope your heart becomes free of me and free of the expectations everyone put onto us from the moment our engagement began.

Don't let me burden your heart any further.

Please Luka. You deserve more than anything I could give you. You deserve to be happy as well.

Sincerely, but not for the last time, Marinette.

I promise I will be back.

............

I wonder what would have happened if Fu had given him the letter sooner. I say that like I am the one reading this. If I feel like it maybeee I'll write it. But there is a reason why he only gave it to Luka now. Well other than him being hard to find and approach, there is one other reason.

I loved writing Marinette's entrance. I can't wait to write the next chapters because there are already snippets I wrote quite early into planning and I've been waiting for so long to fully write it- I can't write things non chronologically. It just hurts my head.

What did you think about the letter? That was my favourite part to write in the whole chapter. Idk why but I've just always loved to write letters. This is sorta unrelated but I hope my future person will write me love letters. I would also write them some too.

After this is done, I actually have 2 ideas for fics, one shorter fic and then another longer one. The shorter one, the concept is a bit hard to explain in one word but the longer one I want to write is a gaming fic- well sort of. There's a lot more to it than just gaming but that fic is only in the beginning stages of planning. Next year it will probably be the fic I am going to focus on writing though. So stay tuned for that!!!

See you next week lovelies <3
