When Legends Cross by SpartanCatlord

N. P. Carnelian

Title & Cover - 7/10.
Your title is simple but nice. It's captivating enough and suits the genre quite well. The cover is a little lacklustre and not very eye-catching, but I do like the attention to detail on the guns with the anchor and horseshoe representing both of your main characters well.

Blurb - 5/5.
The blub is very well written and certainly captivating! When I read it for the first time, I knew this book would be a good one to read and review. It tells potential readers just enough to grab their interest without giving too much away.

Writing Style & Story Flow - 10/10.
Your writing style is so well-developed and clean. Everything is well written, descriptive paced just right. You use great, vivid descriptions throughout which really helps paint a picture in the reader's mind, making the story easy and interesting to read. I also must mention the dialogue because every scene is written so naturally and feels like a real conversation between these people. The action and fights are also written very well. They're fast-paced, descriptive and easy to keep up with. Not only do they get the adrenaline running but they're great to read. A good fight scene can be hard for some authors to nail down, but you made it look easy.

Grammar & Punctuation - 10/10.
The technical aspects of your writing seem fine to me. No mistakes stood out to me so if there are any in there, they're very minor since these kinds of mistakes are usually one of the first things I notice when I'm reading a story.

Plot - 9/10.
The plot is very clear from the beginning. Arrokas is some nobleman's son with a taste for adventure and piracy. He's trying to prove himself to the crew and does so by rescuing Sterling from jail. As for Daf, he's quite literally a gold star sheriff who takes his job very seriously. No one has ever pulled one over on him before so when Arrokas and Sterling get away and he winds up demoted it's only natural that he would go after them. I immediately found myself rooting for Arrokas but then wound-up rooting for Daf as well, even though they're on opposing sides at the beginning. The main plotline is easy to grasp and interesting enough to want to read. Throw in the inevitable, but clearly slow, romance between the two and you get the recipe for a great story. The enemies-to-lovers trope works perfectly and has the reader wondering just how these two men are going to wind up falling in love which is only more incentive to keep on reading. Pirates and Cowboys are a mix I never realised I needed so badly and one we certainly don't see enough.

Character Development & Worldbuilding - 18/20.
Your characters are well-defined from the get-go. They're interesting and consistent. Within only a few paragraphs we already know their motives, their core characteristics, and whether we like them or not. Arrokas was the perfect character to open the story with and starting it right in the action helped him shine. Daf's introduction at the jail was just as good, even if more subtle, and the shift to his perspective in the following chapter felt so natural and was the perfect opportunity to learn more about him. The side characters were interesting too, from Clara to Jackson to Sterling. They all had their own individual characteristics and personalities which really made the story come to life. And the relationships between the characters in both groups (Daf and his friends/co-workers and Kas and his crew) are already starting to develop so well in these first few chapters. I also wanted to mention that I really like some of the unique character names you came up with, it helps them all to stand out. The same goes for the names of other things as well, from the towns to the horses and ships.

Overview, Total - 59/65.
Overall, I had a great time reading and reviewing your work! The opening chapter had a great hook and was so fun to read and the story only got more gripping from there. It's a fun, exciting read that keeps you on the edge of your seat and always wanting more. The world-building is solid, the characters are great, and the writing, to me at least, is near perfect. I'd recommend this story to any fans of the genre in a heartbeat. As far as the story and writing, this book is a 10/10 from me, I'd just recommend getting a more eye-catching cover.
