tree-borne : shalnark

Glancing at the almost empty room's corners you're occupying with the help of the moonlight that was shining from the open window, as if it was a daily routine, you found yourself lonely again.

Although you're already free physically, you were never mentally. Scars from your abusive past were permanently visible to your body.
Your mind's state was never good. You don't even remember the last time you smiled for being genuinely happy.

You tried to make yourself stop thinking about being helpless. You kept on pressing the television remote's channel button, hoping to find something that will pique your interest but to no avail.

Using your cellphone wasn't a good distraction either. You're trying to stay away from the people who constantly harmed you so you kept it off. You shook your head, stopping the panics that was about to occur, knowing you're untraceable for the mean tine.

You reached for your blanket and positioned to sleep. The breeze that was perfect for summer nights were blowing to your room, making you clutch on your blanket tighter.

After a few minutes of trying to sleep, you stood up and took a peek on the window.

You saw a young man with a platinum blonde hair in this early twenties, trying to climb on the tree near your window which made you shocked.

"W-what are you doing?!" You tried to make your voice scary but you failed and stammered.

"Oopsie!" He said as he somersaulted on the thick branch and nearly fell. "That was close!"

He glanced at your way and waved.

"Oh, hi there!" He greeted, all smiles. "Hope you can let me stay here! Business matters."

He made an apologetic smile and winked.

Oddly enough, you find him dangerous but at the same time, he doesn't. Probably because of his gentle features? You'll never know.

"Are you okay there?" You asked, thinking he was trying to run away from someone dangerous like you running away from your past.

"Actually, I don't think I'll be comfortable sleeping here but the poor as always, shouldn't complain." He honestly said, not losing his smile.

A bizarre idea struck in your head.

"Would you like to stay for the night?" You offered shyly, hoping that he won't think ill of your intentions.

"Really? I'll be glad to!" The blonde guy leaped thru the window and landed perfectly in front of you, an inch away from your body.

"Sorry!" He said and adjusted backwards.

He glanced at the corners of your room, making you realize that it emphasizes your lack of companion.

"Woah! So much space! I could fit the whole troupe here! I miss them! It's been years!" He exclaimed.

"You can sleep on the bed. I'll be sleeping on the couch." You said and went to the couch.

"Oh no, that's not good!" He disagreed. "I'm the one who's imposing so I should be on the couch. No more buts and complains!"

He rushed on the couch, occupying the whole space, making you unable to protest.

You went back to your bed and lied, facing the window where you can't see the guy whom you let in.

You tried to be silent, knowing the person was tired from his business.

"You're an odd person." He suddenly said.

You thought he was already asleep. Your heart leaped for a moment, beating fast.

"I know. Probably because I was raised this way."

You heard footsteps going near you. You felt the other side of the bed being occupied by someone who's sitting on it.

"How were you raised?"

You felt a hand pulling your arm gently, making you sit on the bed, facing him.

"Aren't you tired?"

"No. I'm not tired. I'm curious." You tried to scan his features if he's trying to pull a joke, but he's not.

"Prepare to pull an all-nighter then."

You find yourself telling him all the things you've been through from the start to bottom. It was odd but you just can't stop talking everything about you. You didn't want to admit it but you knew. You only wanted him to listen and not utter any single word which he obliged. He didn't say anything unless it was needed.

He probably felt the loneliness you're trying to fight but for what reason that he'll help you overcome a day of loneliness?

Was it due to letting him stay for a night? Probably yes.

Was he curious on other people's life? It may be.

Was he also lonely?

We will never know.

At exactly 6:30 AM, he bid farewell.

You apologized for making him stay up all night.

"It was no big deal. I enjoyed it. I was so interested on listening that I may not even sleep a wink if you cut it short." He positioned to jump on the near tree.

Before jumping, he glanced at you and smiled again, simultaneously on the sunrise, which you found aesthetic.

"See you, [Name]!" He said.

Before you could stop him, he made a huge leap.

You shouted from your lungs.

"Your name! You haven't told me your name!"

"Shal! Shalna..." You weren't able to hear the last syllables so you decided to just call him Shal.

You hoped to see him again and you did after a few years.

You saw him, corpse being eaten by crows.
